The front squat is great! I've been neglecting it. The strongest and leanest/athletic I've been is when i did front squats 5 days a week for about 5 months. I need to get back to them!
I can't thank you enough, I've been dealing with a labral tare for years and as of late it has been affecting my ability to front squat. I went ahead and tried the strap variation and its helped . Subscribed 🏋♂️
I swear, I watch this video every few months and every single time I do I come out of it with a few things I didn't really take into the gym with me. The biggest eye opener for me was in your shoulder press video where you said don't EVER expect to shoulder to press heavy if you can't heavy front squat. That one tip.... changed my entire life man.
Here I was thinking this was going to be a short instructional clip, god damn have to rebuild my entire front squat warm up routine! It was the only squat I could do comfortably for a long time, but looks like I have to drop a few plates and restructure. Thanks for the clip! Exactly what I have been looking for for a while now.
SHIRT IDEA: I seriously suggest NEVERSATE selling a shirt with the logo that also says "BE NICE TO EACH OTHER" & or "KEEP WORKING HARD" I'd buy TF out of that.
This video came just in time for my lower body workout. Your advice on keeping the chin down really made a difference. I had watched many tutorials on the front squat but they all said to keep the chin up. Doing it your way helped me keep my upper back straight and made my front squat more stable. Thanks Brian! Keep up the good content, it's much appreciated.
At first I didn't like this guy at all but I kept watching this video. I have literally watched 10 other front squat videos and still could not do a front squat. This guys tips worked. I still can't believe it. I can do front squats now. This is GREAT. I thought there was something wrong with me. The bar placement tips, tucked chin, knees out, knees first not butt. THANK YOU!!
Hey brian, thanks for all your content. You inspired me to ditch the bodybuilding workouts and get back into powerlifting. You're the weight lifting jesus thanks for all you do.
Needed this video a couple months back but fortunately pieced everything you said together through a bunch of other vids and experience, but this was very concise to what I needed to learn.
Love doing front squats on my light squat days. Highbar has never felt right. Lowbar & front squats feel right. Great video Brian, I'm so happy I found this channel this year
Great video as always. I had trouble getting the front rack while holding the bar, then i saw a video Omar Isuf did on how to get a better front rack. had some good tips that would be helpful to pass along for people you train
Most informative how-to video on front squats...which will help tremendously since I only have done goblet squats because I couldn't do front squats correctly. Will give these a try and keep working on it. Thanks for making great content!
I'm so happy you mentioned the chin position! I've had a couple people call me out at my gym saying I should put my head back and I always disagree because I feel like it takes away from core stabilization so i do it with my head down even though it sucks haha!
Thanks for this video. There's a lot to learn on the front-squat; and this video is really helpful. For me, just one simple thing (keeping my chin down) made a big difference.
I just gotta say, I love your energy bro. On those days where I’m just feeling real “meh” about hitting the gym, I take a min, eat a pre workout snack, and watch one of your vids and Shazam! GOOD TO GO! Keep doing you Brian🤙🏼
great video as always! I'm just surprised that you didn't talk about the unracking part. This is the part I've always messed up in, until you released the (back)squat cheat sheet. the cues for the unracking helped both my front and my back squat tremendously. thanks again man for the great content.
Holy shit!! That clap at the beginning was loud! I know that a slap given by you would literally render an individual unconscious and concussed. Lmao!!
Came here cuz of your collab with Omar isuf and I’m really glad I did !! You are legit ! Love your content and am currently following a workout based on your video on Linear progression Thank you !! Love from India
Always had trouble doing front squats so I went with the Manta Ray which is a high trap squat of which I have better leg development then doing front squats and low bar squats it's much cheaper then a squat bar at 45 bucks
Thanks Brian! I'm definitely going to work on my front squat form before I start my new program you made for me. Now, all I want for Christmas is a SS Bar!
So this may be a bit late and/or unrelated but I really wanna do Brian's 12 week linear progression program what sort of nutrition should I have for that? I was thinking a modest surplus like 200 but I'm really unsure it'd be great if anyone could help me out
I suppose I should reintegrate the front squat, I havent done it since I got a rack. It WAS my go-to squat for a long time because my solution was to load the bar up on the corner of the deck rail and squat in the driveway! It was always an issue though as I have terrible wrist mobility.
Great video 👌. Though I wouldn't recommend wrapping your hands in the strap variation in case you need to ditch the bar in a failed rep! Just holding the straps works just fine.
you forgot the most important part; it gets WAY easier in a couple months. after a couple more months you dont need to stretch any more, the position is already there
MrAnymeansnecessary yeah i used to have to do the full mobility routine to fs comfortably. After about a month, i don't have to do anything specific. Just regular warm up.
Brilliant advice, i've just found this channel and its one of the best i've seen especially for assistance exercises. I'm 50 and am 9kg or 21lbs off the British Deadlift record at 182. I 've incorporated fronts again after a long hiatus to aid the dead and this is stellar advice!
Awesome video! Just help me with this, should the bar rest on your clavicles? I can front squat 110kg for reps, but after the unrack I fell a lot of pain on my clavicle and, If I cant stand the pain, I have to stop the exercise. This has been a pain in the ass, and its not letting me progress on the front squat. Where exactly should the bar be? Should It hit your clavicle? Should It hurt at all? I already tried numerous variations of hand and bar placement, and the only position that dont cause me pain is when the bar is in front of my clavicle, but It feels unstable. I haven't found much information online adressing specifically the bar position in relation to the clavicle. Anyway, any tips? Thanks!
Have you given thought to putting up some sound damping panels in the new section of the gym? I feel like the high amount of echo would make group workouts exceedingly loud and also makes trouble for recording video, coming from someone whose wrestling room used to get brain-bustingly loud. Something like more flags or other soft materials on some of the walls would do the trick without shelling out a ridiculous amount for actual sound panels.
Also Brian your thoughts on front squar vs Olympic hi bar squat. I find that for powerlifters Olympic squat has more carry over because its a direct variation of the low bar back squat What do you think
Brian I've been subscribed to your channel for a long time now. I've been weightlifting for years and want to gear up to do a competition now. I'm having difficulty figuring out what events to train for and women's weight classes. Any suggestions?
Question about conjugate: when you do the variation should you always stick to the one variation e.g if I pick the front squat as a squat variation should I stick to that throughout the program or rotate it to another variation?
Great video! Hope you have a great time at nationals regardless of whether or not you compete. I’m actually wondering if you could touch upon good weight ratios between your four main lifts (like squatting double your overhead press or the like) that indicate a good balance in a future video? Maybe also something on how much you should be able to lift in a variation relative to the main lift so that you’re strong in all areas of the lift and not overcompensating with certain muscle groups? Love your channel and your content and thank you for all you’ve done for my lifting!
Do you want me to push my belly out when I'm bracing on a front squat? So I take a deep breath and push it out almost like I'm trying to look pregnant? Because in another front squat tutorial you said that you try to do ninja turtle abs during the brace, which would be the opposite of pushing the belly out.
The SSB front squat makes no sense to me. With the front squat the weight is infront of your shoulder/spine (i.e. midline) and with the back squat the weight is behind your midline With an SSB bar your get the weight almost directly above your midline but a bit more infront of it because of how the bar sits. If you look at 3:22 when you stand up the sleeves (i.e. where the weight sits) are behind your midline. You literally say a few seconds later that you don't even need your hands as the bar is pushing itself back behind you which is keeping it balanced So *if the weight is resting behind me then how is that like a front squat? Haven't you just made a more complicated back squat here? Wouldn't a standard SSB squat mimick the front squat better?* (although it definitely can't replace it) I'm definitely not trying to be a smart ass. This is a real genuine question. I mean maybe I'm missing something which makes this a stupid question or something idk
Matthew Singer no I haven't. There is no gym near me with a SSB bar. But I am currently in the process of building up my own garage gym. And I will definitely be getting one
Remember, these were orders of ways to do a front squat if you cannot get into the regular position. He is trying to reduce the amount of excuses for people to not do front squat. The SSB is to help people who say the weight falls off their shoulders. The SSB removes this problem because its fighting to get behind you.
Any advice on the front or back squat for someone with a fused ankle ? I cannot bend my right ankle at all. I currently back squat with my feet up on a incline wedge but I am not making much progress.
Whenever I have a problem in life I ask myself: What would Brian do? And then I flex my butt.
Don't forget to get a big belly breath
Jared Tracy FLEX YOUR BUT GUYS AND BE NICE TO EACH OTHER (that the first thing i thinj about whne thinking about brian)
Jared Tracy do something amazing with your life. Part of me wants to say train untamed....but that's another channel

The front squat is great! I've been neglecting it. The strongest and leanest/athletic I've been is when i did front squats 5 days a week for about 5 months. I need to get back to them!

Adam Stevens and what about "CMON MAN" or "GET YOUR LIFE TOGEDHER"?
Be mean to each other. Do not work hard
I still back this idea, just bought 2 more neversate shirts from loyal the other week!
I LOVE the be nice to each other idea
Great tips from John Cena's long lost brother.
Lmao
I was struggling with front squats today, and what do I see coming back - a front squat video. Perfect timing! Enjoy Vegas, Brian!
Great video...Brian always improving
The intros get more and more charismatic every time
This video came just in time for my lower body workout. Your advice on keeping the chin down really made a difference.

You got it man, sorry you don’t like me man haha
Hey brian, thanks for all your content. You inspired me to ditch the bodybuilding workouts and get back into powerlifting. You're the weight lifting jesus thanks for all you do.
That tip about the chin is genius. I was doing front squats in my programme tonight. I used that chin tip and the stretches. Made such a difference.
Thanks Brian!! Great tips on the front squat! That banded groin stretch looked satisfying
Thank you for the video Brian, especially the tip for using straps.
Thanks Brian got me back to front squats after many years and a lot of shoulder injury and range of motion 😀👍
I like videos like this where you have higher energy. makes me want to stop what I'm doing and go lift!
Needed this video a couple months back but fortunately pieced everything you said together through a bunch of other vids and experience, but this was very concise to what I needed to learn.
Tips well received, sir. The mobility exercises are on point.
I haven't done that tip with keeping my knees moving outward, I tried that at home with a broom, and my back seemed much straighter. ty ty
Love doing front squats on my light squat days. Highbar has never felt right. Lowbar & front squats feel right. Great video Brian, I'm so happy I found this channel this year
The SSB tip is awesome!
I really appreciate you saying so my friend
Great video as always. I had trouble getting the front rack while holding the bar, then i saw a video Omar Isuf did on how to get a better front rack. had some good tips that would be helpful to pass along for people you train
Brian, my apologies if you've already commented on this, but I'm curious about your thoughts on front squat vs zercher squat?
What's more intense than pre workout? Brian Alsruhe!
I liked and subscribed but I feel like I owe you more than that.
Thank you very much for your jewels of knowledge.
Most informative how-to video on front squats...which will help tremendously since I only have done goblet squats because I couldn't do front squats correctly. Will give these a try and keep working on it. Thanks for making great content!
A million thanks! I was pretty much doing everything wrong. Loving the videos.
I'm so happy you mentioned the chin position! I've had a couple people call me out at my gym saying I should put my head back and I always disagree because I feel like it takes away from core stabilization so i do it with my head down even though it sucks haha!
Great video, thanks! Chin tuck tip fixed my front rack position
I'm a simple man. I see a Brian Alsruhe video, I press like.
Richard Pajarillo simple
Thanks for this video. There's a lot to learn on the front-squat; and this video is really helpful. For me, just one simple thing (keeping my chin down) made a big difference.
Started following you after Juji visited, really like your content. I"m excited to see more strongman stuff.
I just gotta say, I love your energy bro. On those days where I’m just feeling real “meh” about hitting the gym, I take a min, eat a pre workout snack, and watch one of your vids and Shazam! GOOD TO GO! Keep doing you Brian🤙🏼
Couldnt have come at a better time. I was just getting discouraged yesterday by how god awful my front squat is. Thanks for the content, man.
Crazy beard brother looks fantastic
Brian "The Goat" Alsruhe
Great tips as always. Good luck at nationals no matter what decision you take👍
great video as always!
I'm just surprised that you didn't talk about the unracking part.
This is the part I've always messed up in, until you released the (back)squat cheat sheet. the cues for the unracking helped both my front and my back squat tremendously.
thanks again man for the great content.
lol. I love how you thought for a second I should rack this.... f-it (as it drops to the ground)
Excellent vid as always. Have a great time at nationals no matter what you decide.
Always amazing tips and even better and better videos!
Holy shit!! That clap at the beginning was loud! I know that a slap given by you would literally render an individual unconscious and concussed. Lmao!!
Put the juji collab content out anyway! Even if they put some stuff out it's nice to have brian alsurhe content and perspective.
Came here cuz of your collab with Omar isuf and I’m really glad I did !!
You are legit ! Love your content and am currently following a workout based on your video on Linear progression
Thank you !!
Love from India
I prefer the Olympic grip when front squatting because it provides thoracic extension. As opposed to the crossed arms.
legs tomorrow, glad i found you my man
Great content as always! Perfectly timed with my leg day.
Thanks Brian!
Those beard gains for nationals! Never tried the front rack position with an ssb, should give that a go just to see what it's like.
Always had trouble doing front squats so I went with the Manta Ray which is a high trap squat of which I have better leg development then doing front squats and low bar squats it's much cheaper then a squat bar at 45 bucks

really appreciate ur content.
Good luck big guy!

Brian and Jujimufu are definitely the coolest fitness guys on youtube.
Excellent video, Mr. Atlas! (:

Great video 👌. Though I wouldn't recommend wrapping your hands in the strap variation in case you need to ditch the bar in a failed rep! Just holding the straps works just fine.
great fucking video, love the mobility info, thanks for the video brian
Great video, as always, and Good Luck at Nationals !
Wish I could like this video more than once.

Cross armed I find is the easist for me to keep control of the bar.

AjMill-Iron i'm guessing he's gonna do rubber mats and spray insulation like in the previous room. Give him time! It's not done yet!
Also Brian your thoughts on front squar vs Olympic hi bar squat. I find that for powerlifters Olympic squat has more carry over because its a direct variation of the low bar back squat

now i know thanks man.
Another amazing vidéo !!!Thank you!A french sub..
Thanks for this !
This was perfect.
which is better using a smith machine in squats or using a free bar weights ??? and does it makes a different or both are the same ???
Going to squat in 2 hours, hope you included the grip work!
The love hate relationship of the ssb front squat I’ll have to try the wrist stretch I can’t hold the bar thanks for the info.
Look at that front squat... you fucking beast!
What kind of set and rep range is ideal for front squats? Should I do them before or after back squat?
I see you're getting that Alan Thrall beard for nationals.
Question about conjugate: when you do the variation should you always stick to the one variation e.g if I pick the front squat as a squat variation should I stick to that throughout the program or rotate it to another variation?

I lold so bad that I spit out my soup!
thanks Brian... 😠
The SSB front squat makes no sense to me. With the front squat the weight is infront of your shoulder/spine (i.e. midline) and with the back squat the weight is behind your midline

I'm definitely not trying to be a smart ass. This is a real genuine question. I mean maybe I'm missing something which makes this a stupid question or something idk
Kevin Oak has said the SSB Front Squat is much more akin to a low-bar back squat.
MrShackleford yeh right? That was my thinking. It goes in reverse with the SSB. glad to see I'm not the only one thinking like this
Have you done it?
Matthew Singer no I haven't. There is no gym near me with a SSB bar. But I am currently in the process of building up my own garage gym. And I will definitely be getting one
