My squat and deadlift changed so much for the better after watching your original breathing/bracing video. Not just physically, but also knowing "My legs are strong enough, I just need to keep my torso from failing".
Hey Brian, thanks to you I just put 25 lbs on my 225 squat, hitting a piss clean low bar 250. I got a belt and followed your advice and my squat has never felt better. I weigh 165 so that’s a 1.5 x bw 1RM. On 1/1/17, I weighed 138 and was a much weaker man. Thank you so much for such awesome content and for sharing your training journey with us. Big love to you and Neversate, Brian! I hope you heal quickly and continue to regain strength, man. Thank you.
This litteraly changed my lifting the first time you made a video about bracing, because I had NEVER heard of this before. I STILL send people your original video anytime I am trying to explain it to them. My squat went up by 50 pounds or more once I mastered this.
The more I do this the more I found that I naturally brace for other lifts. Like taking the garbage to the curb or trying to take all the groceries in the house in one trip. Maybe not eyes popping out brace, but still a brace.
Michael Price we swapped trash companies a few weeks ago. Recycle can was packed. Went to lift and dump it into the new can. Couldn't. Remembered to brace. Easy peasy.
Michael Price. Yup, and that protects you from injuries outsode the gym. Probably where most people actually experience a problem, picking up 20lbs of groceries or a 40lb kid rather than that impressive 1rep DL.
Hello. Is this breathing suitable for high reps such as 12 repetitions on lifts. How would one go about applying this technique for 12 repetitions. Would I essentially breathing in and out between every single repetition.
@@yogajogajogi8026 It's more for heavy reps. You can do it by breaking up the reps. Like do 6. In the standing position breath and rebrace. Then do 6 more. Something like that
Probably one of the best lifting quotes I've ever heard..."strength is a skill and the only way you get better is practice". Beautiful. There should be a bumper sticker for this,
Hey Brian, when I found your channel a year or so ago I was fairly new to real lifting and my squat max was somewhere around 185. Today I hit a 315 for a new 1rm and a goal I’ve had for a long time. Thanks for the content!
All these years lifting weights and I never learned this. I've implemented this the last few weeks with terrific results. Thank you for the clear explanation.
Thanks! I am actually going to add that kettle bell movement to my warmup tomorrow am, before I practice my log clean and press. Your videos have helped me so much.
This is SO helpful!! Your tip on how to breathe on the OHP has already changed my lifting completely and i can't wait to "try" this tomorrow..fantastic content as always! PS:."WO man"..love it..😂😂😂😂
I just discovered this channel. I feel like i am compatible with the way things are explained here, nice , simple and damn useful. Dont change man. DO NOT CHANGE or I'll find you...
Your earlier breathing and bracing video taught me the cadence I should have while lifting things, when to exhale, when to inhale, and that let me complete all my sets and reps while being able to give (if not 100% then at least) 80% of my strength to each rep. Now I'm going to start doing the same thing turned up to 11, brace as hard as I can, breathe in as deeply as I can, and I'm confident this'll help me with greater things in the future.
a long time ago i read an articule on Tnation by dan jon which talked about this subject "We humans are like bicycle inner tubes. Our performance depends on our inner pressure. Sadly, most of us ride around on underinflated tires. True, the world looks at our treads first, but what really counts is the pressure."
Thank you! I am practicing this every training session since I saw your first breathing and bracing video a view months ago. I hope it starts clicking one day.
Priceless information and the best teacher in lifting game! Thank you Brian for making these videos. I miss these videos of you hopefully you are well and starting to make more of these. Thank you again.
nowadays information is everywhere, but what's rare is CERTAINTY that you have in your advices !!! and thats is priceless. you can't find many ppl to make you certain like you do Brian and that comes from years and years of experience. aside from the content, the certainty that you give lifters in your videos, is what makes the difference between someone make progress in the gym and break plateaus or just get more confused. God bless you Brain. keep up the good work brother.
Guys, if you love this channel and Brian, and want to support him here's what ya do. Throw him an email and ask about a program. Just got one and It is unlike any other program I've done or seen. It is really worth it. Keep killing it man!
I watched your old video when I was backtracking like crazy your channel and it completely changed my overhead press, you're the man who made it all make sense!
Your original breathing and bracing video really changed my lifting journey for the better cause before that I didn’t even know that was a thing, so thank you Brian! This one was even better!!!!
The last video you made on this helped me more than anything else has. Thanks again Brian for the awesome advice. Also anyone wondering about Brian's Workout Programs. THEY WORK!!! Purchase one and get ready for some gains and new PR's.
I actually watched the first video, and I thought it was fine. I learned from it. I saw some other videos on how to breathe and brace, and they were fine as a reminder if you already know how to do it. But your breakdown really helped me get better at it and put it all together. I did some squats last night and my back was not happy with me, woke up fine and did some tonight and feel a lot better.
Literally just here for the abs in the thumbnail. Will you be revisiting more of your older videos? You have a ton more personality on camera now and it'd be fun to see some of the oldies cranked up to 11.
@Brian Alsruhe Happy Birthday brother! Appreciate all you've done for us. Sharing your knowledge and wisdom. You're more of a million subscriber kind of channel. You'll get there. Not for validation but for real, raw content. Peace ✌
"You've been breathing your whole life so I hesitate to tell you what to do but...you're doing it wrong" I was waiting the whole video for that. Breathing and bracing>anything.
Your first breathing and bracing video was the first time it really clicked for me. 100% game changer. I struggle a bit on high rep front squats though, I find myself almost passing out by the 10th rep
The breathing and bracing tip and doing barbell rows are the best things I ever learned from you Brian. Keep up the good work man and have a happy birthday!
Brian your tip just helped my squat tremendously - i realised i concentrated my bracing too much in the middle instead of filling up the tank all the way to the bottom - ive been doing this for like 2 years - your comparison to a good brace to a legpress just clicked something in my head and trying to get the same feeling/support when bracing and filling up my stomach and to the back DANG! BRO my pr just went up from 130 to 140 kg in one workout. Thanks! the best advice ever!
Thank you for this video and your others. The number of times trainers, friends and even my own wife have told be to breath while lifting has been some of the worst advice I’ve ever received. I was always naturally holding my breath with out thinking about it. But today I used breathing and bracing properly after watching your videos and my 400lb deadlift felt like a 200lb deadlift. Not only that with in a day of watching you and also strength untamed dude my 3 power lifts form have gone from shit to awesome. So glad I randomly found this. Next time someone tells me to breath I’m going to just stare them in the face and turn purple.
Extremely helpful. on your last video I didn't know what you meant by a big "Belly Breath". i tried my squat 1 RM recently and couldn't get a big breath under the load because I was trying to lift my shoulders as I breathed in. of course I missed the lift but I can't wait to try it with this breathing technique. thank you!
Thanks for the awesome video Brian! This is honestly the first videos I've ever seen where someone went this in depth so I'd heard of it before but never really understood it. Definitely something I am going to focus on from here on out. Hope you have a great birthday!
hahah I just saw your old video on breathing and bracing! You are right! It is quite different!! nice jumpcuts XD THanks again man! I need to master this bro!
I've been trying to breathe and brace properly since I saw your last video. I really need to get better at it but it's already helping me lift more weight.
Breathing and bracing is always a problem no matter whatever level you are at. Thank you for bringing this out again man. I hope I remember that your b day is on 26th. So, happy birthday in advance. Keep going. If it is already over, happy birthday anyways man. Blessings. 😇
You will soon reach 100k subscribers, Brian, but more important is the level of engagement of the subscribers you have. You have less subscribers than other channels, but your videos are better, more viewed and more commented. Don't If RUclips has a tool to measure that, but I can guarantee haha. Cheers!
Happy birthday, Brian! And thanks for revisiting this topic. I've definitely noticed both my squat and deadlift have gone better this week from practicing your advice.
Damn. I thought i knew how to brace. Guess not. First time hearing about filling your obliques and lower back. Also gonna try that kettlebell drill. But with plates since i dont have kettlebells, hope that works aswell. Very informative video. Thanks for that. You earned a new sub :D
The correlation between Dan John and you just hit me: Dan John is all "Make a difference, live, love, laugh, drink water, don't smoke, eat your veggies, put weight overhead, ..., say thank you." And you're "Do something amazing with your lives, breathe and brace, squeeze your glutes, mindful practice with every rep, be nice to each other." Those life mantras are on point! =)
Funny how I literally was just watching your old vid like 3 days ago when I was writing an article for bracing for benching haha! Good work with this one!
Short and fat as possible. I'll envision my hero, Danny Devito, next time I brace
Logan D Embody the Trashman
Danny DeVito lmfao that was the funniest part of Super Troopers 2
I was gonna like the comment but it was at a perfect 69 so I'll say I mentally liked this comment

Lol but better

My squat and deadlift changed so much for the better after watching your original breathing/bracing video. Not just physically, but also knowing "My legs are strong enough, I just need to keep my torso from failing".
I'm ok with this video being a repeat because I should probably be listening to it about once a week anyway.
I watch it every few months. This video is to a lifter, what a bible is to a Christian.

Watching this right before my squat workout
His passion about bracing is flat out inspirational...... fantastic info.....
It’s an important thing for people to know haha
The more I do this the more I found that I naturally brace for other lifts. Like taking the garbage to the curb or trying to take all the groceries in the house in one trip. Maybe not eyes popping out brace, but still a brace.

I’m going to school to be a Chiropractor and breathing and bracing is just important in life in general. Great video.
I’m a beginner, my numbers are skyrocketing with his videos, so glad I found this channel💪🏻 😩💯
Always great to revisit old videos that inspired me. Forgot how big a difference it makes!
I really benefitted from your first breathing and bracing video, but this added some good stuff to practice. Thanks!

And flex your butt when you reset between reps. It will help

thank you for putting this information up. no one else puts this stuff up

The breathing and bracing tip and doing barbell rows are the best things I ever learned from you Brian. Keep up the good work man and have a happy birthday!
