    A couple of extra points Pan, I am a mechanic and I wash engine bays all the time. firstly, cleaning an engine bay is generally a good thing if you live in the salt belt like us. Salt build up can cause all kinds of corossion problems. Secondly, wash the engine when it is warm, not either cold or very hot. Thirdly, always go for a drive afterwards or at least warm the engine to operating temperature to evaporate any reamaining water.

    • @joelpasserell4525
      @joelpasserell4525 3 года назад +1

      @Saskatchewan1913 Have you ever ran into where using pressure washer forced water into something that caused car not to start after cleaning an engine? Do you recommend covering alternator with plastic first? I have a 2007 Kia Rondo so not sure how well they protected connectors back then.

    • @saskatchewan1913
      @saskatchewan1913 3 года назад +5

      @@joelpasserell4525 Only had a problem myself on an old Jaguar but I have seen damage caused by other people using a pressure washer too close. If you are just washing off loose dirt or salt use a hose or a pressure washer from a distance. Alternator should be fine but always run the engine to operating temp afterwards help evaporate and water left on the surfaces.

    • @joelpasserell4525
      @joelpasserell4525 2 года назад

      @md h I've detailed a few engines, but I'm not an expert. I think you meant to reply to saskatchewan1913 instead of me.🤔 IMO I'd say you're OK without covering the battery. Use a leaf blower or other specialized blower to dry it off. If it's a newer model car, check the fuse box cover. If it over hangs the base where fuses are and no cables enter from the sides, you should be ok there too. If you're really concerned about it then use a hose with nozzle attachment with the shower setting. You can rinse both eoff using that, & there should be no worries. IMO, using a degreaser like super clean diluted 5:1, along with some brush agitation, water pressure from a hose should be all that's needed.

    Often overlooked part of a complete detail. Awesome video pan! One tip, before you start spraying water, double check all visible fluid reservoir caps and the dip stick (if your car still has) to make sure they are on properly. Had a customer tow their vehicle in because the master cylinder cap wasn't on properly and they ended up getting water into the brake fluid.

    Hi, a added tip is make sure you lubricate the hinges and catches after you have finished detailing your engine bay because the APC or degreaser may have dried out the greases on your hinges. Pan, hats off to you fella, that is one gorgeous lump in that engine bay ( apologies, but it would have to have a Remus Sound System to complement its looks. One of my sons put a switchable Remus on his M240 & I was so so tempted to take it off his hands when he bought the CarbonFiber infested Competition M4 just for the music outta the back end. Unfortunately my damaged body did struggle just getting out of the thing so that time head did rule my heart) I digress, I gotta remove all my engine covers & see what state my LS460 is in,, //vey comfortable indeed.. Back to detailing, thanks Pan, I will follow your lead & get her cleaned & tidy under the covers. If I can get them all off. My engine is totally above & below, covered..

    Great video Pan! I was just wondering if you could answer a question. I like to overland in my FJ. Many times it’s dusty and sometimes it’s muddy. I still like to clean the FJ when I get home. A thorough cleaning helps me find any possible damage and it looks good!
    My question with the ph 7.5 + 12.5 would it be too harsh to use maybe 3 times a year? Such as beginning of Spring, mid-summer, late fall.
    Thanks! Keep enjoying life!

      LOL Yup after our disgusting winters in Canada this is what happens. But you still have to agree it wasn't that bad. It was still cleaner than 99% of engine bays on the road haha. And if it was always clean, I wouldn't be able to make a tutorial.

I have a X1 and every time after I wash and clean the wheels + rims and drive my car I always hear a squeaking/whistling sound from my brakes for a while before it goes away. Not all engines have those big plastic covers that protect components, it's important to know the engine you are cleaning, for instance the MK2 vivaro vans are prone to seized injectors from water getting into the wells, I had a Renault Megan 225 sport that had seized spark plugs from water ingress, and these type of things happen over time, you can clean your engine but years later when an injector needs replacing you get a call that it is seized by rust.....always best to pay extra attention to any "wells" places where water can sit, use a blower and some wd40 to disperse any moisture, fuse boxes are another thing to be careful of, some are not designed or designed well enough to take a full soaking and again it could take time for any issues to show up by which time you'd unlikely think the engine clean was the cause.
