    In this lesson, you will learn how to write the equation of a line using the slope intercept form.
    In order to do this, we must first use the slope formula to calculate the slope of the line, then we find the y-intercept and use y=mx+b to write the slope intercept form of the equation of a line down.

    Knowing some of the calculations are very easy for us but still Mr. Gibson teaches students from the scratch. That is the beauty of his teaching skills. I really love you Sir.

    There are o lot of teachers who are so bad at teaching this that they don't explain their calculations or even finish finding the SLF, they just leave it incomplete, I'm glad this guy is actually competent.

    I find it interesting that a slope of 1 is always a 45 degree angle. Makes me wonder if the other slopes match up with the other trigonometric angles. A slope of one cuts a square in half corner to corner, left bottom to top right, creating two similar triangles, only rotated. This leaves a right angle of 90 degrees for each triangle in the square. Length of sides are both 1, and the bisector line measures the square root of 2.
    Seems to me that if the graph paper is measured exactly in units both in the vertical and horizontal direction; and there isn't a slant to those grid lines; then you'd be able to match up, say a slope of 3 to a specific angle EVERY TIME. I don't know how this could be useful; but it seems like it would be. That slope, being the longest side of a triangle, would also be the hypotenuse, which sits directly across from angle theta.
    Thus, now, it seems that the slope intercept form, the standard form, unit circles, and right triangles all have something tying them together.

    • @davidmadisontheguardian
      @davidmadisontheguardian 2 года назад +1

      I just realized that every slope SIMPLIFIED will give a UNIQUE RATIO of sides. Thus, I think you really CAN predict things like measurement of triangles and unit spheres (in 3 Dimensions). Because of geometry, you can figure out what OUTSIDE angles are, therefore, it seems like you might be able to measure the SPACE AROUND AN OBJECT AS WELL.

    • @MathAndScience
      @MathAndScience  2 года назад +1

      You are exactly correct.the tangent of an angle is just the slope of that hypotenuse because tangent is equal to opposite side over adjacent side, which is rise over run!

    I just want to ask this, would it be correct if I derived Y = MX+B in this way ? -
    Let the y-intercept be (0,B). Let another point be (X,Y). Then, the slope here -"Slope =M = Rise/Run = (Y-B)/X-0".
    Since X-0 is X, you can multiply X to both sides right ? Then the equation becomes - "MX= Y-B".
    Then it could become - "MX+B = Y(By adding y to both sides)".
    Also, I think this also explains why m is the slope in the equation -"Y= MX+B".

    I love the way Jason explains this (and many other things). He may have covered this earlier, but at about 3: 45 in the video:
    For the 4x/2 + 12/2 simplification, I think the simplification works because 4x = 4* 1x .
    So, then what's happening is:
    4/2 * 1x/1.
    or 4* 1x /2*1
    No need to worry about the multiplier variable (x) as part of the problem.
    It's just something to think about since this concept can/might help in other problems, too.
    🤔
