@@TheJokesterSCR Slipknot was a completely different band when they released MFKR, that's my favorite era of the band. Their shows at that time were so dark, schizophrenic and theatrical, they were very inspired by Mr. Bungle, they even used an intro of one of their songs to open their shows. By the time they signed to Roadrunner in 1998, they had completely strayed from that weird style and become what we know today.

No bro, don't say that to anyone who has a decent knowledge of music, and specifically metal, if you don't want to be embarrassed by other people. Each new record is "poppier" than the last, with all those clean, predictable choruses.

I've heard it twice, and the second time was better. It may grow on me. I liked Yen, Hive Mind, Warranty, H377, and Finale. LOTS of influences here, such as Mushroomhead, Disturbed, The Unguided, and material extremely similar to their previous albums. H377 sounds like Orphan at the start, and The One That Kills The Least later. There's a line like "But you can't break-" that sounds just like the line in "If Rain Is What You Want".

only issues with the album are the abundance of marching snares in several songs (dying song, chapel town rag, hivemind, warranty) they're good-great songs, just hurt by marching snares and Jay could have done a altered verse-beat for hivemind, the verse beat he uses is the same as all out life (the blasts are amazing though), . Also, Hivemind uses a riff from Irresponsible hate anthem by Marilyn Manson and the main part of H377 is a part from Warhead by Otep, part from these little things, it's a good album and GREAT video as always Molly. MFKR to finalize the Knot

This album has started to grow on me the more I've listened to it. Adderall caught me completely off guard. Kind of gave me Pink Floyd vibes. But it's actually one of my favorite tracks off of the album and it really sets the tone well. I kind of wish that they hadn't released The Dying Song, The Chapeltown Rag, and Yen as singles because they're easily the best tracks on the album. So it sort of felt like the album went slightly downhill after Hive Mind upon first listen. Imo, not they're best album but it's far from their worst.

About Heirloom, I agree. Didn't feel as cohesive on here, but other than that, every song hooked me. You mentioned doing an album ranking at the end there, Hell yeah! That'd be dope. I'm always debating between them all, it's such a hard task. The Knot keeps dropping classic records. You always worry a band will fall off after time but they've managed to gain a second wind with these last two especially.

The only song I wasn’t a really fan of on this album was Heirloom. Because despite all the help from the other members, it still felt like 30/30-150 from Stone Sour, Corey’s other band that Jim Root, one of the guitarists for Slipknot, was a part of. I’m not saying it’s a bad song, but it made me REALLY think of the stone sour song and not a slipknot song

Molly, if you fan of NIИ you must be interesting what Trent Reznor said about band Talking Heads and their 'Remain in Light' album from 1980 as his favourite album of all time:
"One of my absolutely favorite records is Remain In Light by the Talking Heads. It is an album I didn’t understand when I listened to it for the first time in the beginning of the 80s. Back then, I was living in a rural small-town that was widely cut off from interesting culture. And then suddenly this album landed. A strange, synthetic, polyrhytmical piece of art with African influences which confused me in every way. With good albums it is the case that at the beginning you don’t know what you are actually dealing with. But you are fascinated by it, and with about six listens it slowly reveals itself to you. With the 10th listen you are completely thrilled, but even when you listen for the 30th time you still discover something new. Remain In Light taught me that. The record enlightened and changed me. It showed me what music can do, how song structures can look like, or how drum parts can interact with other parts. Since I started making music myself, this wonderful album has been something I can always consult. The great thing is that the record can still be approached from so many different directions without losing its puzzles."

    • @mollyesanborn

If you want dive deeper in metal - pay attention on Flotsam And Jetsam band, on any of their albums, but that say about their debut Slipknot's guitarist and songwriter Mick Thomson: “The speed of the songs and stuff like She Took An Axe, which is a song about [1892 suspected axe murderer] Lizzie Borden are really fast and it sets an aggressive mindset which is good for a work-out. You can’t go wrong with either of the first two Flotsam & Jetsam albums.” (that he said in article 'Slipknot's Mick Thomson: 10 albums that changed my life' in Metal Hammer)

As someone who has spent the past 40+ years listening to the type of music you've been uncovering for the past year, it's fun to watch someone become aware of "good music" & let others see their experience of listening to them for a first time. Your take on them is pretty spot-on...even though a lot of the music often takes listening to a few times and some familiarity with it, before fully getting the depth and full experience. Somehow you manage to nail it right off the bat. Makes me wonder if you've cheated and taken a listen prior to your videos? haha! The fact you have Metric included is pretty amazing. Regardless...Everyone always seems to have suggestions on what to do next. So I'll give you a recommendation of something give a try to listen to, video review or not. Dreamcatcher.
Here's a short list of what I think you might end up liking, although if you end up knowing who each member is, you'll then find yourself liking everything they've done and will do:
No More, Don't Light My Fire, Good Night, Breaking Out, DejaVu, My Way, Break The Wall, Sahara...Just to name a few. Most of those are B-sides & so their Title-Tracks are a whole other category.
They are coming out with a new release in the next day or so.
    Or not. 🤨

Slipknot released a single called "All Out Life" before the release of We Are Not Your Kind, and perpetrated the ultimate travesty of excluding it from WANYK because not only does the song SLAP, it features the lyrics "We are not your kind". I expected them to release a deluxe version of WANYK with the inclusion of that song and maybe some other bonus songs, but to my disappointment they never did :(

Talking about electronic sounds, would you be willing to react to some electronic music? Namely, I would suggest the biggest electronic album of all time, The Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy, which was released 25 years ago and hit Number 1 on the album charts in over 20 European countries as well as in the US. You might have actually heard a fraction of it, as one of the tracks was part of The Matrix soundtrack and it was played during one of the fairly significant scenes in the movie.
Btw, The Prodigy are friends with Corey Taylor who was recently a special guest for one of their shows during their UK tour. I wish they would collaborate with him, considering that they have already collaborated with musicians such as Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine and Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters.
