Can anyone give props to Mr. Davis for hosting Motorweek for nearly 40 years? He's given very descriptive and entertaining rundowns and reviews of cars, starting with the humble Escort from 1981 all the way to the 911 Targa 4 of today. Much respect!
I just realized how old I have gotten. I remember watching motor week on a tv with an antenna and a knob to change the channel, and now on a smartphone anywhere I want.
Great looks, impressive performance for the horsepower, wind in the hair... and then the price brings me back to reality! Might need to get one of those MIatas instead.
Lol, I've been watching Motorweek since a 1987 as a young snot nosed 10 year old. Now, 33 years later, still watching, but as an owner of a 2013 gtr. This is still the best car show out.
There are a few cars/brands in the world that you don't even need a test-drive to buy. You just confirm the ext and int color, the options, and just take it home. This is one of those cars.
Beautiful. Love it. But while watching it I found myself wondering if I’d get this or a C8 vert with money left over for a daily driver. Which speaks to the corvette more than anything negative with Porsche
The wife wants a 911, but it's hard to justify the extreme price difference when the Porsche is slower, much more expensive to maintain, and less reliable. You can't even see the engine on the freaking thing, let alone work on it (god forbid)! I like the look and exclusively, but ultimately the Porsche is just a "girl car".
Targa really needs the S trim to justify it as a performance machine. This is over a second slower to 60 than the equivalent Carrera S coupe that starts at the same price.
The Targa is the heaviest and most top heavy 911. The coupe is the true 911. The cabriolet and Targa are really more for boulevard cruising for the hey look at me buyers.😅
“It was a tough time for Porsche in the mid 1990’s…” 1993 / 911/ 964RS (I owned one) and the 911/ 993s of that decade.... all air cooled excellence. I’ll take those any day! Just me (not only me) those are the cars! 🤩🚗 pS - will also accept a 2021 Cayman GT4. 🚙 Just saying....
I'm saddened that Porsche has finally succumbed to different diameter rims. Other performance cars have been doing this for years and I always commended Porsche for not doing that. This sucks.
@@MoveTowardsTheLight they’ve not evolved the 911 has looked the same for the last 40 years all they’ve done is tweak the shape of the vehicle here and there add airbags traction control PDK to make it faster along with all wheel drive but the basic design stays the same is like milking a cow you’re always going to get milk but the cow will stay the same
@@waltervila33 All cars have evolved drastically in the last 40 years I have been driving longer than that. Porsche owners like me will not buy a 911 if it did not have the same classic shape and the performance has changed by leaps and bounds. @@afoolandhismoneychannel It's definitely strange. I am only assuming their reasoning. I have noticed other manufacturers have odd restrictions in options based on body style/option choice.
I Said nothing about straight line speed. A C7 ZO6 would destroy this on the track as well as a straight line. Sorry, not enough performance for that price. When the C8 ZO6 and ZR1 get here they will dominate this. Shit, my C6 ZO6 would destroy this on a track. Sorry, not worth it.

Grew up watching this guy with my dad as a kid. Major props. An auto legend for sure.

And In high definition 👍🏽
Haha, same.
Being in my 50s, I watched the earliest days of Motorweek. I would not be shocked if John Davis is still hosting this 75 years from now.
one can only hope!
He is simply "the best".
Another Beautiful Porsche as always! Great to hear John Davis reviewing the cars!👌😎👍
A drop top cruiser that delivers nearly 959 performance numbers.
This is amazeballs.
Most sports cars top the 959 these days. The 992 is a total letdown.
@@Fluterra All these years later, if you wanna top 959 numbers, you still gotta buy a super car. Sports cars don't touch it.

There's a reason you'd have money left over. The Corvette is garbage, unfortunately.

Carrera S all the way!!

Back in the day this guy could make you seriously consider an '86 Caprice Classic.
I'd laugh if they still tested the 0-60 times with a guy running up to the car from some van.
When you want the skinny of a car, ring up John Davis. I've been a fan since 1983!
Skrillex is your test driver?
Thumbnail made me think this was a retro review of an Eagle Talon.
Why do they keep sticking that analog clock on the dash
My favorite available to date even though it's really an earlier speedster. I think they should do an even more limited t tops
The first thing that came to my mind is that it reminded me of the Toads I caught as kid. Croak.... Croak.
Looks like the hood is taking a beating , already covered in rock chips
Love this car, but I need a little more speed & power for my $140K so I'll take a C8 Stingray with the targa top standard and keep the change
Man, ‘Vette vs 911, 50 years of rivalry. Can’t go wrong either way.
@@clu4u For investment 911 all day
So glad they brought back the classic targa bar look and ditched that fiasco 95-12 "targa".
Brutally honest review
Cost 4 1/2 Miatas. Twice the power. About the same amount of fun on real backroads with speed limits.
Not liking the tiny shifter dongle trend. Mk8 golf has a similar nubbin. Granted this one is a bit fancier
Thanks John. Great video
....sigh... one day..
This guy sounds like professor farnsworth from futurama

It is unique car, it is fast and in some way less is more.
Anyone else see those rock chips on the front bumper. Ouch!
Just so you know, 'a truly unique 911' means there's only 1.
This technology good for European & Asian people. Good review - video ... I’m like it.
A real money maker for Porsche dealer service....

991 targa looks better
agreed. the 992 is a bit too much 'fat bottomed girl' for me

No RWD Targa? I wonder why.
I'm guessing to reduce production complexity and reduce the number of variations. Although that's purely a guess.
Both the coupe and cabriolets are offered in both RWD and AWD so I just find it odd that they single out the targa to be the all-weather only model.
