What a beast!! I saw him on a Louis Cole video as a "sidekick", but damn. If Mr Cole has chops, than this guy is a pork farmer on a serious locally produced food binge!! He is just on another world.
My favorites drummer: Louis cole , Kendrick Scott, Jd Beck, Marcus Gilmore, Jonathan Pinson, Will Kennedy, Vinnie Colaiuta, Nate Wood, Damien Schmitt, Teddy Campbell, Justin Brown, Eric Harland, Jimmy McBride, Carter Beaufort, Carter McLean.
Imagine a live with only drummer such Justin Brown, Nate Wood, Kendrick Scott, Marcus Gilmore &Baylor, Eric Harland, Nate Smith, Mark Guiliana, Jd Beck, Louis Cole, Jonathan Pinson and Damien Schmitt.
Don't know for sure if they were playing in a mainstream jazz groove or not.If that was the case, would have preferred that these guys traded fours to see how they flow.
Not as advertised. This was supposed to be a drum solo, but the rest of the band was playing throughout. I'm not saying that Nate Wood is bad (he isn't), I just don't like expecting what's announced and getting something else.
There are drum solos that have the band playing something repetitive in the background to offer some sort of common ground to play off. It's called a vamp. It may seem counter-intuitive since it does say "solo" but this is often something that happens in jazz.
The band accompanies him like any other soloist is accompanied, except it's the drummer's turn. The modern jazz drummer is a musician in the fullest sense of the word. The best of them play music on the drums, and it is often music of a complexity and inventiveness that exceeds that of the other soloists. Today, in fact, the first question tour promoters on the jazz scene ask is: Who's the drummer? As Pat Metheny has said, a jazz band is no better than its drummer, and the drummer is the leader of the band.
Nate wooooood, is soooooo good and inspiring. The way he plays ... And bass ....
That's Nate Wood, folks. Doesn't get much better.
Awesome.

@Caleb Of course he does. Why wouldn't he?
@Caleb Well, let that be the case then. If people can't see the genious of Nate, then there is no hope for them.
Yeah let's see Cole play drums and bass and synth at the same time
@J N id say they both have to extremely different styles, making it hard to say who would "beat" one another.

He's a drummer taking a solo.
In jazz this is a solo my friend.
