I'm one of the lucky few who saw Jellyfish when they toured back in the early 90s. They opened up for Tears for Fears. I'm a musician and I was SO blown away by how every single song sounded different. They brought out TOTO, the Beach Boys, and even the Beatles in their music. Truly gifted artists and COMPLETELY underrated.
And some stunning covers No Matter What as an encore , Jet and Free's Little Bit Of Love when we saw them . The live version ofThe King is Half Undressed is one of my abiding great live memories
I saw Jellyfish on their headlining UK tour around 91. Utterly immense. Their vocal harmonies were literally unbelievable live. I recall loving the song Calling Sarah on first hearing that night. They also covered Jet by Wings and Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac. Most certainly influenced by the British band scene. Beyond underrated.
+Joseph Clift They shouldnt have gone with that weird 60's look. I don't think anyone took them seriously. I think they had a great sound and wrote some great songs..
I got this album from my friends Dad, who was a big executive at the record company these amazing guys were signed to. I had the tape for ages without playing it, for some reason turned off by their look... grunge being the pervasive cool at the time, I was about 13/14. Then, one day on holiday, in caravan park on the south coast, Weymouth probably, I put the tape in, git play, and loved it ever since. I often think I'd love to go back, but I was a miserable sod. There's a lot to be said for rose tinted glasses.

I’ve been listening to the two Jellyfish albums for 30 years, and they never get old. Truly a great band, so lucky to have seen them live when I was 17 ❤
I've been looking for this song for 20 years...and just now heard it for the first time since 91'........just WHERE DID the past 20 years go???? Yikes.
I do not know why it took me 32 years to discover this masterpiece of a song!! Tonight on my CD player (yes, still owning one, well, three), play, previous, play previous, play, previous, you know the story!!
Baby's Coming Back made me an instamt fan. The unmistakable hint of the Beatles is over the top. Well written lyrics, and just all round fun to listen to. Both albums are still in my favorite music files. I hate they only had 2 albums.
Two albums. Not a bad song. Production at genius level. Man, I wish I could have seen them live. I did meet Jason at an Urban Outfitters on Melrose...heh. Super down to earth guy. Love to the Jellies!
Yo, dickhead…Fck your retort. I absolutely love Jellyfish and said not a bad songs in two albums…meaning every song is great. You can’t write coz you can’t read. Take your negative stan and go cancel someone else, d-bag.
Such a great great great song. Reading a cool interview on Jellyfish in "Rock Candy" magazine right now and trying to catch up on my listening and discovering more great songs from this band.
Then came the Grays, a mix of great musicians and songwriters, unfortunately only one album, but every song is strong, great players, and produced great! All the instruments are right in your face. Great recording. Great album.
I've had the chorus to this song in my head for the last 3 weeks. Whenever I am in the quiet there it is playing along. It just won't go no matter what other songs I listen to!
If this isn't bubblegum bliss then I don't know what is. This has everything necessary to be a hit - a great hook, great vocals, and those handclaps! - but somehow it wasn't (unfair!). I love this song; I really do.
As the late, great Greg Shaw (BOMP! Records) once said, in defense of pop, pop rock, and power pop: "A flew hand claps and la-las won't kill you!" BTW, don't think J-Fish wasn't also influenced by the sunshine pop (as it was called) of the mid- and late-'60s. Check out obvious bands like the Association, the 5th Dimension, and Mamas & Papas, but you can also unearth some fab, melodious & harmony-rich sounds from the likes of the Millennium, Sagittarius, Montage, The Ballroom, and The Free Design. Enjoy!
What I love about this band is that they didn't try to sound like anyone else and it didn't bother them. There is nothing worse than an artist who copycats. There are so many mainstream bands whom I can tell are trying to have a particular popular sound. However, these guys were true artists who made music because they liked what they did. Jellyfish was so unique what a shame.
they did a ton of homage to bands that came before, but sounded very original example: ghost at number one couldve easily been a cut from the beach boys smile album
I remember this video from way back. I was (and still am) primarily a metalhead, but I did think this video was pretty damn cool in a trippy 70's kind of way. No wonder I could never find it since then...I misremembered the band's name as "Jellybean" instead of Jellyfish. Thank the gawds for RUclips.
I ran into Roger at Darker Waves he played on my Saturday In Nowhereland Record with Eric and Tim also Jon and Ken from The Posies it was a 90s love fest you guys should listen to it 😀
They beat you to it... we got McFly... awful most of the time but they got this to UK #1 and with time, you get that they're the closest we're getting to Jellyfish anytime soon.
One of the greatest songs of all time, production non pariel, every step of the way something to grab on to. Unfortunately this video is so lame and doesn't even come close to doing these guys justice. Viva jellyfish
That McFly covered this, changed basically nothing, and ended up with a number one hit while Jellyfish didn’t tells you everything you need to know about how unfair the music industry is.
thegoat2112 Sadly, they came out at the ass end of tired old hair metal and just at the dawning of the grunge movement. This sound was overshadowed, though I could never understand why. There were some creative differences that could not be reconciled, so they broke up in '93 ( I think it was). Still, they gave us two precious albums of musical magic to treasure forevermore. why does it seem like so many metalheads dig jellyfish? maybe it's because we're used to rooting for the underdog... when i'm not thrashing out, i'm jamming to these guys.

Of the 100’s of shows I’ve seen over the years, by far one of the best was when Jellyfish played RKCNDY in Seattle July 14th 1993

these guys shoulda been big
+Joseph Clift They shouldnt have gone with that weird 60's look. I don't think anyone took them seriously. I think they had a great sound and wrote some great songs..
nope, fuck off
the look was 70s, they're huge fans of that era. as Am I. notice the hook at the end from The Partridge Family's Come on get happy.
They shouldn't have let Jason Falkner get away. Most talented musician in the band and they kept limiting his contributions.
yep

Jellyfish: A wonderful band.
Weirdly, everyone I have met since the demise of Jellyfish who I really like, and particularly those who are musicians, absolutely love this band.
+DeathByHumbuckers - This is a band who had no bad album. Too bad they didn't last. Creative differences kills so many groups.
It's all about Joining A Fan Club... perfect parody but the band Extreme wished they could be...

I found this in spring 1991. Worth every rewind. The people in my life from that time are long gone, but this endures.
I remember seeing these guys in concert back in the early 90's in Atlanta, Ga. Still have a signed poster!

And 5 years later I'm reading this and thinking the same thing. I remember playing this song over and over in my late 20s.
Their legacy lives on, I'm 31 and discovered them just a few months ago. Second album especially is so wonderful.
Now it's 30 years later!

Omg.I forget about this song.Jellyfish was probably the most underrated rock band of all time.
I'll never not love this band. Saw them at the Wiltern and Tower Sunset. And still listen daily
Loved these guys! Saw them play at Humboldt State University in 1991(?) - they were so different from what was around at the time. I was obsessed.

Especially Bedspring Kiss from Bellybutton. Damn, what a great song.

I love Jellyfish hundred percent in my top ten unfortunate they are so underrated
First time seeing these guys live was '91 at Mesa Amphitheater. They opened for the Black Crowes. It was an amazing show.
Pure pop brilliance.
Fantastic song and great video from 1990 !!!
