We were in this Ittle South Market 3 times in September. The rolled tofu bean curd at minute 3.38 is simply amazing, oroginal or spicy flavour. We loved them so much we even bought some to take back to our home country. And the smoked sausages were great. The pork knuckles buns were tasty but the best is 3 shops away, the minced beef and spring onions panfried bun. At 6.30am, the queue was already 15 people; by 7am, more than 30 people.

The history of Xi'an is indeed ancient. Xi'an is the capital city of Shaanxi Province, and even many pronunciations in Japanese can be traced back to the Shaanxi dialect. Because Xi'an was once the capital of ancient China, Japan developed its own culture from studying ancient China, which should have been a thousand years ago.
Yes, you are right, the dialects of southern China have indeed had more influence on modern Japanese, but the influence of Shaanxi dialect may have been earlier. For example, the tone word "です" in Japanese sounds similar to the repeated confirmation of "得私(dei si)" in Shaanxi dialect, as well as the affirmative expressions "そうです" and "说得私(she dei si)". There are also meaning problem "問題" and "麻达(ma da)", meaning sweep away "掃除" and "sao ji". Linguistics is complex, and I don't want to express that Japanese have learned from modern Shaanxi dialects, which have completely different from ancient times. However, it is interesting that we can glimpse ancient cultural exchanges from modern languages.🤔
"Ramen is not hand-pulled", yes, but you can find that the pronunciation is very interesting, hand-pulled noodle in Chinese pronounce as "拉面(la mian)", you can use translation software to listen to their pronunciation.

My hometown!!! Everything looks so familiar oh god I miss all the good food! There are so many so many good food in Xi’an ❤ thank you Mark for making this video!
I totally agree to the previous commentator. Couldn't have said in a better way. Must be barking mad to watch this fantastic video (i.m.h.o. one of the best I've seen so far, and I'm collecting them all 😄) having just returned from the dentist's, not yet able to eat right now. That's advanced masochism. Been to a street market in the Chinese part of Kuching/Borneo once, many years ago, but the atmosphere there might have resembled this cool place you are showing us here. One of the most cherished memories of my journeys in my youth. Thanks for bringing it to my mind, and best regards as well as fond greetings from a German follower like that: 👵 You are doing a wonderful job.
I've been to Xi'an twice, and my favorite thing I have had there was the lamb soup (Yangrou Paomo), where you break apart the bread and then pour the soup on top. With plenty of chili oil and beer of course. Although the "pork burger" looked freakin' awesome. My wife makes the exact same meat which I usually scoop up with tortilla chips or wrap in a tortilla.
I'm born and raised in Xi'an. Really happy to see that your guide took you to the best places. We Xi'aners like to see that visitors enjoy food from places that locals eat, not just overhyped touristy spots. Well done!
I was in Xi'an almost 10 years ago. When I tried yangrou paomo, it reminded me of a "same but different" version of açorda d'alho, a dish from Alentejo in Portugal. We use stale bread, olive oil, loads of mashed garlic, herbs, and usually boiled codfish and egg instead of the meat and noodles.
Very wise to choose Xi'an as the 1st stop in China. Xi'an is the ancient capitals of those most prosperous dynasties in China's history , Qin and Tang for example. Especially during Tang dynasty, people from other parts of the world travelled to Xi'an to trade goods via silk road, which resulted in some very unique food cultures (Chinese Muslim dishes) you can't find anywhere else in China. The city is my hometown and in my personal experience, has the best food in China! Many major cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen are pretty much modernized in a western way with few historical context preserved. Xi'an, though being modernized in the same way, still has the best preserved city grid and fortification walls in China. The city has the vibe of old and new eras colliding in a dramatic way. Amazing place to visit!

Mark I love it riding on the bikes, the market is awesome, vibrant. That pork burger fall apart deliciousness and the fried vegetable pocket crispy goodness. The soups very interesting the texture but looked delish as well as the hot pepper soup and beef soup👌wow those dumplings yum yum and the gungun noodles. I am so hungry now😂Michael was very knowlegeable and so pleasant, it is great how the different cultures blend and become such great flavorful dishes.

Thanks for bringing it to my mind, and best regards as well as fond greetings from a German follower like that: 👵
You are doing a wonderful job.
So glad you finally made it to Xi'an! Looking forward to more China videos, Mark!
Thanks Mark and Ying. That was a full day of street food enjoyment
Yay! You finally made it to China. Xian is a great city especially for first time Muslim travellers. Abundance of halal chinese food to savour.
Love THE RAW GARLIC WITH THAT AWESOME NOODLE SOUP.!!!😍😍😍💯💯💯😍💯
Hey Mark, you description of the foods were Fantastic.
Congratulations mark for the videos you always produce for us, we welcome you to Kenya boss
Thank you, I hope to visit Kenya again soon!
I absolutely enjoy this episode. Thanks Mark!
Thank you Mark for showing us Chinese delicacies.
I'm born and raised in Xi'an. Really happy to see that your guide took you to the best places. We Xi'aners like to see that visitors enjoy food from places that locals eat, not just overhyped touristy spots. Well done!
Thoroughly enjoyed this long video Mark. Every dish is so unique and looks so delicious. Your narration makes me feel like I am actually eating.
Thank you very much!
This is my hometown! So happy you enjoyed the foods and culture here ❤
You and JOHN are both amazing!
🤣西安历史文化悠久,但是是个美食荒漠
Mark sounds like a sports commentor, for a good health sport. Thanks for sharing parts of the world. Peace.
Who else missed Mark’s food tour in China? Absolutely love this!
I love all things spicy so Xi'an would be a perfect place to food tour! ❤ Thanks Mark for being a awesome food vlogger.
Love to see you visiting your homeland and your culture
Wait, is Mark even Chinese? I thought he's Thai American.
@@puga4202 His homeland is actually Hawaii. His mother is Chinese but was born in Hawaii and his father is white. Ying is Thai and they live in Thailand
