      Hey, lay off, everyone. I have a problem to talk in front of an audience, WITH a script. You wanna see me try without one? I don't know why people hate him. I didn't see of his movies except the 4 TFs, Ninja Turtles, and maybe other movies I don't know he participated in making, but at least a large number of his movies are big success. Why all this hate??

    • @TheFreeeemind
      @TheFreeeemind 8 лет назад +12

      ***** To me, Transformers is extremely close to Batman (I know, you wish to kill me like others). There are many other directors who made worse, and still are being praised more than Michael. I know his movies can be over-patriotic, and maybe, MAYBE, a tiny little bit racist and all that. But there are other directors out there with more and worse wrongs, yet still I only hear about Michael getting all the heat.
      It's almost impossible to remake something and make it better than the original, at least in the eyes of people. So, all I'm asking is: either condemn other directors also for their wrongs, or don't gang up on one person. Fair enough to me.
      Peace from Saudi Arabia. :D

      I kinda can't. If he can't think on his feet about what he does for a living, then he simply doesn't understand what he does.
      If he has to have writers tell him what he does so he can explain it, then he doesn't really do much.
      Michael Bay is a film director, but he is no visionary. He sees himself as such, but he isn't. If he held to what he was, then he wouldn't be as hated as he is and his movies would be better.
      But instead he is trying to push limits that he doesn't understand. He is trying to be respected as one of the greats, but he is not. And instead of owning that and trying to push himself - he just hides behind sex appeal, explosions, American flags and a legion of writers to craft a persona that is not what he is.
      But once that persona falters, what he is is not enough to hold it up and he runs away.

    it's panic and stress... I guess he just doesn't do many live things or presentations and prefers to be in control behind a camera or with a crew he knows. When something goes wrong on stage, you have to have the capability to cover it and think on the spot, but as soon as panic sets in, you can start to freeze and not know what to do, so clearly he just got out of there.

    Anyone who says this looks worse on Bay than on Samsung apparently doesn't realize how difficult it is to be a public speaker. Bay is a director, and they did dress rehearsals for this and had a digital cue card system. When you practice doing something one way and then things change, it's very hard to continue on with what you've practiced, especially public speaking. Imagine going on stage with a prepared speech only to lose your cue cards and only know the general topic of the speech instead of any of the key idea's you wanted to present. He's a director, why would we immediately assume he would be a good public speaker? He's not an actor, he's not just going to be able to improvise things.

    • @TrueMohax
      @TrueMohax 9 лет назад +52

      The guy also has incredible stage fright, the fact that he was actually able to go up there for as long as he did has me respecting him a bit more. If you just look at how he is constantly shifting, playing with his hands, and the tremble in his voice as he speaks the longer he is there, you'll know what I'm talking about

    • @libo2736
      @libo2736 9 лет назад +18

      If they had practiced it, then he should know the gist of what he has to say. They likely paid Bay a lot of money to appear, and it's up to him to do it well, not walk off the stage when he's thrown a change-up. And the other guy even did his best to make it easier for Bay by just asking him questions. Bay didn't have to even think much.
      If Bay was that bad of a public speaker, he shouldn't have agreed to do it.
      Walking off an leaving the other guy in the lurch was selfish beyond belief.

    It was clear from the beginning that he was very nervous. Most likely he was just ill-prepared and that initial level of anxiety just swelled up from there, particularly with the teleprompter fail until it was uncontrollable. As such he would barely have been able to answer a question like 'what is your name ?' Its a physiological reaction that can not be controlled really, a bit like trying to fight anaesthetic - you can't do it. The steps were very clear and his thinking would have gone something like this 1/ Oh no I'm up to speak 2/ I just asked how is everybody and no one replied - heck ! 3/ Joe has started introducing me but I've already said what I was going to say in answer to his first question before - now what ! 4/ Shit the autocue has gone 5/ My voice has gone 6/ Now I'm going to have to wing it ! 7/ Now Joe has asked me a simple question but they can hear my voice is quivering 8/ GET ME OUTTA HERE !

    I bet you , you would end up choking on your own breath if you had to speak publicly in front of a crowd when all you've know is to be behind the camera not in front of it.
    He is a human being not an alien, even though his films prove otherwise, he still has fears, worries, and he is a perfectionist.
    Once things go wrong he can yell CUT and try again, but this time he isn't able to do that.
    He tried to wing it but the anxiety of being up on that stage and everything got ruined completely flabbergasted him to the point of walking off the stage.
    Go easy on him, he made a mistake he isn't perfect, he is just a perfectionist.

    • @roguex9469
      @roguex9469 9 лет назад

      ***** Have you seen the way he directs? He is a total perfectionist, there is no way you can be in the motion picture industry and not be a perfectionist. His movies are far from lazy, he and his team pay a great amount of attention to detail. Mostly having things explode because that's what he does best, but even then he is an amazing director. Imagine if he had directed the Star Wars Saga, everything would be blowing up left and right.
      Yes presentation is everyteverything but for someone who has anxiety and suddenly has a panic attack, that becomes overwhelming.
      I bet you you wouldn't stay in front of a live audience if you went through the same thing.
      He felt embarrassed, he couldn't do anything about it. That's what rehearsals are for unfortunately in this case everything he rehearsed for went to shit because of the damn monitor not working when he was speaking.
      That's what happens when someone relies on technology too much.

      Give the guy a break? Do you know _anything_ about Michael Bay? If it were anyone else, I'd give him a break, public speaking isn't easy. But when there is someone who has made a career from being a jerk and is well known for thinking he is some alpha-male bully, it's a different story. He is well known for singling out people and embarrassing them on his film sets and treats his crew like crap. This is just like a bully that gets punched in the nose and starts to cry. Sure, everyone cries, but it looks good on a bully.

      He was kind enough to visit our VFX studio while we were working on Transformers 3. From a distance he seemed very friendly but professional. Even though the first film was relatively well received, the criticisms included the annoying parents characters, john turturro's annoying performance, the racist stereotypes portrayals, and sexploitation of women. What did he do in the second movie? He gave us twice as much as that! And he continues to do it through the third and fourth movies. The man is clearly not an artist.

    Lol all these people saying "Omg panic attacks are real and you should be ashamed for making fun of him!" and I'm here reading an article on how it was because Bay missed a couple of lines on the teleprompter and couldn't recover LOL!

      +kz78 well it's pretty clear he has social anxiety (probably why dialogue in his movies is so unnatural) and getting thrown off like that in front of a large crowd can be pretty overwhelming. Sometimes when you have that kind of anxiety you just have to get away from the stress as quick as possible. Thanks for making me defend Michael Bay, I never wanted to do that

    I had to give a ten minute presentation my freshman year of college the day after the whole football team was essential forced to shave our heads for a cancer foundation. Actually I did well but there’s no describing the feeling of remembering you have a presentation the next day directly after deciding to shave your hair off...

    Wow. He managed to show a real human persona instead of some fake scripted performance. He gets my respect for being genuine.

    The thing about it is, I can totally relate to this. Public speaking is my number one fear out of anxiety of situations like this occurring. Here's the thing, though: No matter who you are, when you're asked about something you're passionate about, it's always infinitely easier to speak about it because you're actually invested in and knowledgeable about what it is you're discussing. I think he should have been able to sustain a conversation about his craft, even if the teleprompter had malfunctioned. So maybe he just doesn't have the passion for what he does. But maybe that's just my perspective. I still can't help but feel sorry for him though. Even if his movies are crap.
