I always played to the gallery, and even did requests! Work wasn't the same after the XC 47s had gone. Hence I defected then eventually retired after 25 years on the railways. Now I've secumed & returned to it! Glutton for punishment lol. Great video.

Thanks for adding this. I remember this summer fondly. I think I saw all the special Virgin 47s that year. Cheers.

Opinions: Having spent more miles behind a Brush Type Four than I could realistically recall, listening to them in these videos doesn't sound the same. I appreciate the age of the equipment.
In all these videos you can hear a very loud turbo, though when I was behind them I didn't recall it being so noticeable- though watching them race past between Edinburgh and Glasgow, going full bore after leaving Haymarket, you could certainly hear the turbo from a distance.
The question: Is this just a difference in what the microphone picks up compared to the human ear or is my memory false?
    A wonderful video- thank you.

@@paulbarlow2527 oh yes... I know every generation says that theirs was the last one with proper trains, but for us I think it was.
I was lucky enough to make many of my journeys in the cab, but in truth I preferred the head out of the window- especially when behind the Hallowed Brush Type Four between Carstairs and Edinburgh. One winter the power was off and we kept the big Brush all the way to IIRC correctly, Carlisle- I think the driver was setting a new diesel speed record coming down Shap and Beattock.
I'm sure we've all got stories of where our head has had an argument with a lineside obstruction- usually a tree- and we've lived to tell the tale. Sliding doors? Sealed windows? No thanks, I'll drive.

Yep, I’m the same, hated them with a passion but ended up with silly miles because they were bloody everywhere 😡

Didn’t know that 47 could pull MK3 coaches with DVT on the rear don’t they require 3phase power to run AC units thought only Class 43 or 91 could provide this ?

This was a West coast loco hauled mk3 set, they were different from HST Mk3s

The 47 would be providing power to the MK3 set. It could not be driven in push - pull mode from the DVT though. It would have to run round.
