Gosh I remember them good old days. Takes me way back to my teenage years. I used to get on them every Saturday afternoon with my Dad from Havant to Portsmouth, and wait for it to come back to get on it on the way back. When they were running Portsmouth Harbour / Southsea to Blackpool North service and also Manchester Piccadilly service sometimes on Sunday in late 90s to early 2000’s. So much happy memories. ☺️
They were certainly great days Joe when we had Saturday Only trains running, pleased this video had brought back some happy memories for you, and thanks very much for watching my old unseen footage which I am uploading most weeks while we are in lockdown.
Lovely bit of nostalgia there Mike. These were the days to enjoy loco-hauled workings and EMUs with their drop down windows, things never quite the same after this era. Worth noting your train loco 47848 and 47812 you crossed at Reading are both still running in 2020 for Rail Operators Group.
Evening Mike. Oh happy days 😊 Living in Manchester I did lots of 47 cross country services before the stupid voyager took over 🙄 Be glad too see the back of then like our pacers in the north 🤣 Not a tear I’ll be shed when they go to the scrap yard like I did when the big locomotives started disappearing in the 70s ☹️ Great as always cheers Stevie 😎
Steve you think the same as me regarding the way XC tractor has gone some we lost the 47 action, the problem is they are going to get more when the ex Virgin one’s go. On the plus side of things you have got the Nova 3 68s up your way. Thanks Steve for you comment and taking a look at my video. Mike.
Hi,Stevie my name is Phil I did 50yrs on the footplate some as a fireman I finished my time out at 9A as a driver so I would have worked some of them trains Regards Phil.
I honestly wish I could have seen these services, they looked amazing, glad you got them on film, if I'm correct 848 is now with rog, cheers for sharing Mike
Those were the days. I remember the Virgin 47s. Incidentally, I believe 47812 was on a Bournmouth train, hence the run round. The Brighton, Paddington and Portsmouth services didn't require a run round.
Yes your are right about the 47s coming into Reading, wasn't they great day, I would love to have stock and locos back on them route like the TE are doing. Thank you for your comment and interest in this old footage I uploaded, I do upload unseen old footage now and again so keep a look out.
Hi , my name is Phil I did 50yrs on the footplate I started at edgeley shed on the 4th of April 1961 in 1962 I was made a fireman I finished my time out at 9A as a driver and I drove a number of them on XC trains I finished in 2011Regards Phil.
Great video. A question about Brighton, was the whole train shunted along a local circular route to turn it around? Or was the 47 decoupled and moved to the other end of the train?
For all we know I could have been the Driver on either of those 47's on that day, God I miss the real days of XC before Virgin ruined it with awful Voyager's 😫 the future don't look good either with talk of ex Virgin 221's going the XC and Meridians also. Then Bi-Mode Plastic trash to follow..
I know Tim I heard that a while back, why don’t they get someone in to run the company who know about trains, and not run a rail on figures. Great some HST before the go, thanks Tim for your comment.
Hi , Tim my name is Phil I did 50yrs on the footplate I started at edgeley shed on the 4th of April 1961 1961 I was made a fireman I finished my time out at 9A as a driver I worked a number of them in and out of New St Regards Phil.

Oh yes that’s right, never gave 812 a thought, that’s a bit amazing really, are yes good old days when we had now H&S.
This is an excellent video mike, can't believe I wasn't born to see this.
I don’t know what to say Sam, apart from thanks for making me smile with your comment. Cheers Mike.
Great memories, especially seeing Reading station before all of the upgrades.
Yes I did like the old Reading General mate.
Very nice video. Cant beat proper loco hauls
You are so right Mark, we can only go on preserved railways at 25 mph.
Thanks Mike, enjoyed that trip a couple of times, also went via Kensington Olympia. Nothing like a good run round.
That’s good Bob, thanks very much for taking a look. Regards Mike.
Love the Connex livery shunter great footage all round 👍
Oh you have found this old footage I only uploaded about two years ago then, well thanks for checking it out.
Fantastic Retro Footage Mike!
Many thanks Tom for your interest.

Excellent Mike, another nice oldie. The 09 at Brighton was rather bright wasn't it !?!
Do you think so.
Excellent video from the Archives mate 😀👍👍👍👍
Many thanks Kev for taking a look. Mike.
Many happy memories of back in the day. Excellent film Mike 🤓 🤓 🏍️ 💙 💙
Thanks Anthony, wish we had them back.
@@antman09ful1 I notice Captain Tom is on the Birch Coppice freightliner from Felixstowe, currently waiting access to the mainline at Ipswich. 🤓
Great footage. Reading looks completely different today from this footage and the fond memories I have of the station from the early 1980s
The old station was the best for me, but I don’t like change done I.
I honestly wish I could have seen these services, they looked amazing, glad you got them on film, if I'm correct 848 is now with rog, cheers for sharing Mike
Not checked mate, but I think you are right.
You was right about the 47 mate, it’s on EH works at the moment.

Super footage on here Mike......loved it.'''
Glad you enjoyed it Trevor, I wish we had them days still. Cheers Mike.
Great video and memories Mike. Just wish we had this type of haulage today. Take care.
Me too David they were such great days, now we have mostly rubbish trains to get about if we could travel on them. Regards Mike.
Why did they stop this direct service to Brighton? I used it a few times to get to Gatwick!
I don’t know Steve, I think there used to two service a day , then it went to one and finished.
excellent video of class 47👍 funny to see the name connex again
Oh yes you would have seen that name a lot. Cheers Barry.
nice to see the 47 on these trains, stil cant believe, Virgin no more in the UK!
It is a shame Theo we don’t have virgin trains anymore. cheers Mike

You sound like Tim who works for XC, he liked working on the class 47 also. Thanks for your interest Phil.

The engines have to run round mate, thanks for your interest.
Great stuff. Never used this route. I thought it went straight to voyager, not seen any HST on this line
Well I don’t remember any voyager, so I will have to check things, but thanks for your interest.
Great archive mate
Thanks Howard.
More great archive footage Mike, like 47!👍
Many thanks David.
47848 with WCRC now.
Yes That is right, thanks for finding this old footage I did TTV. Mike.
Did these used to go up the BML (47)
if the BML is the Brighton Main Line, the answer is yes.
@@antman09ful1 Yes ok! HST's were on BML how interesting!
5:33 Reading West station was actually built so trains on similar routes wouldn't need to do this
Ofc they did it anyway.
That's fair enough if you think that Jakey.
Great Video Mike, Near Me!
That’s right Blake just down the road from you, thanks for watching.
Very good vid, thanks :)
Glad you liked it Alan. Cheers.
Nice video Mike :)
Glad you enjoyed it Simon.
5:14 Radiator shutters open.
Cheers Jeff for your comment and your interest in this video.
