You seem to like cinematic flashy games, and are expecting RPGs to focus on those aspects. For an RPG list, this is quite possibly one of the worst lists I have seen yet. Nevertheless, it is your opinion.

Still feeling Cyberpunks stories, characters and esp. ending(s) too deeply to start with Phantom Liberty already, 1year after its release. Idk what that says about a game or if its just me, someone who usually never cries or is all to moved by sad movies or the like.
Phantom Liberty has some amazing endings as well. One of which filled me with so much anger and despair that I needed to take a walk. It's a game that connects you so deeply to the character you play as where you feel like what's happening to them is also happening to you. What a masterpiece.

When Bethesda keeps releasing games like Fallout 76, Starfield, and Shattered Space, it still gets so much support. But when CDPR puts out Phantom of Liberty, the haters continue to call it out. LOL, I think some people just don't deserve to play good games.
I will say, I love Dragons Dogma 2. The lack of loading screens helps highlight the sense of adventure when leaving a city by walking out the front gate, and seeing the expansive world in front of you, begging to be explored, I agree with the story feeling pointless and boring but to me, it takes a back seat to the rest of the game, which is all about adventure and discovery. Dragons Dogma 2 is a game I’ve been wanting for a while. And I feel they delivered on that fantasy of adventure in a fantasy world.
I can totally understand not liking Disco Elysium if you're not a fan of the themes and setting. Its a very depressing game so it's definitely not for everyone. But for me, I love these types of games, like Lisa the Painful and Pathologic. Me and my partner jokingly call these games "Pain Simulators". :)

You have legitimate criticisms and good reasoning. You express your opinion and tastes very well. Big respect

Your channel has honestly become my go-to for game recommendations! I only started getting into gaming recently and found your channel about 5 months ago. Thanks to your suggestions, I’ve dived into Mass Effect Trilogy, Cyberpunk, and just finished Citizen Sleeper-and wow, they’ve all turned into some of my absolute favorite stories ever, across any form of media! I just wanted to say a massive thank you for sharing your thoughts in such a thoughtful and passionate way. You’re making us fall in love with these worlds and characters, and I've probably sunk hundreds of hours into these games because of you. Keep up the amazing work-you’re making a bigger impact than you know!
The straw that broke the camels back for this video was him putting Thronebreaker above Witcher 3, I don't even dislike Thronebreaker, and I love Gwent, but what. the. h. is wrong with you? There's actually no way you think these things. Respect for putting Prey so high though. Prey is criminally underrated.
Haha ya definitely not the popular opinion, I mentioned it in the section but it comes down to game design and pacing, just like it way better in thronebreaker. And in the Witcher 3 I section I talk about my issues with it
i loved everything about cyberpunk, it felt so real and hit at things that could happen in our world in the future it was very fun to play and think about
I have so much I could talk about with Skyrim, but I'll just say that it, and the Elder Scrolls in general, has some of the richest and deepest lore of any media ever, and you could play through the game multiple times without truly grasping the history of it because of how it's so completely woven into the world. The amount of freedom you have is unlike any other game I've ever experienced. You may be the dragonborn, but you can also spend countless hours playing the game without even initiating the main story. Even as the game turns 13 years old in a couple of days, it's shadow looms over the genre as a benchmark for every new RPG to be compared to, and while a lot of modern games surpass it in different areas, It's ability to immerse people in its world and get them to sink hundreds of hours over multiple playthroughs is basically unmatched.
@@water3745 is RDR2 an RPG tho? Cos in my head I don’t register Red Dead and GTA as roleplaying games? Not tryna be a hater just genuinely asking what makes you consider it an RPG?
I completely agree about Cyberpunk, that game is all about the feels. I’ve never felt more connected to the story and characters of any form of media than in that game. When I completed the main story the ending left me feeling helpless and after loading the save and doing all the other endings that feeling of helplessness just got stronger. Though out the story you pretty much do everything you can to try and find a way to save V only to come to the end and discover that no matter what you do it’s almost certain that V will die shortly and there’s nothing you could’ve done to prevent it from happening, only delay it. I remember for weeks after finishing it I would randomly think about it throughout the day. Nothing else I’ve ever played or seen has been able to do this to me
I like how youre honest and give your opinion regardless of others opinions. You don't create content to give people what they want to hear, but rather what you have to say. big W

7th saga is now 30 years old yet still one of my favorite RPGs ever. Also you’re right that was an interesting take on Pathfinder I don’t think I’ve ever heard a negative review of Wrath of the righteous. Divinity original sin 2 is amazing.
Agree about featuring Thronebreaker. It's a very nice gameplay system. After all, we're not fighting as a singular character there - we're commanding an army, and card game fits so well.
Even as a massive Disco Elysium fan myself, I can understand why you would "hate" it. I'm personally really into politics and history, and I was just in for the lore : discovering bit by bit this (in my mind fascinating) alternative reality, that reflects so much of our reality while acting as a metaphor/object of reflection for all the political/philosophical side of the game. (It's very inspired by diverse European cultures and events, and as a French person myself, I loved all the references). I also found the world beautiful in its tragedy. And I had some chills and awe moments with just the art-style and the OST coming together. Having saying all that, I know I am the target audience for that game. I was subjugated by Disco Elysium, but I completely understand why someone else wouldn't be. I get your opinion, which was very well exposed, and not gratuitously mean, which is always a massive plus on a RUclips ranking video.
Great Video man!!! Love your opinions spoke out in this eloquent and all great contribution. Keep it up, just like you are doing already and try to ignore all the hate! Got my like and subscription.

Not every game is going to be for everyone, even within their favorite genres, and that’s okay.
Although some games might actually be objectively a better RPG than Skyrim, but no game has ever gotten close to the feeling of immersion that the elder scrolls 5 gives me whenever I get back to it, that regarding I never beat the actual main quest.
Immersion wise there are many better games tho, but that doest take nothing away from skyrim, still a masterpiece in that regard. But just dark souls 1 alone made me way more immersed
@@mrt.1903 dark souls 1 isn't open world tho, I know that it doesn't have to be open world to make you immersed, but elden ring is a way better game overall than dark souls 1 (objectively), and for me, skyrim is better than elden ring when it comes to immersion, I haven't played bloodborne yet, but I heard it's more immersive than any souls-like video game ever, still, dark souls 1 at the time of its release is fairly decent when it comes to immersion, but its replay-ability isn't good enough, not nearly as good as elden ring and skyrim, that's what I find immersive, you can't get tired of playing this game to the point you replace it with your own life. you probably just like a game that is memorable and linear, and that's where you find immersion, good for you ! I like "walking simulators" more than mostly linear video games, we're different. great taste tho.
@@ntmr7708 I used ds1 as example cuz it's old and almost indie. Bloodborne, elden ring, the witcher 3, baldurs gate 3 they are all more immersive than skyrim for me at least. I don't find ds1 that linear to be honest. You're very free and at the same time forced to know every inch of the map, that for itself makes it very unique immersion wise. Linear games for me is Alan wake 2 and even tlou 2 that can gimme more immersion too. Immersive, for me, is when you kinda forget you're playing a game and emotions start to come out of your experience, not when you can replay it. I have 6k hours in csgo and it's not immersive at all. At the same time I don't want to replay tlou 2, Alan wake 2 or cyberpunk 2077 never again cuz I was too immersed and felt multiple emotions, some of them very sad, in the process. With that being said I don't think its outrageous to say skyrim is n01 tho, cuz it's amazing just like the fallout series, but at least for me that only applies if you played back in the day or super modded and even tho I can't say it's number 1 for me cuz Bethesda has a way to make sure you know you're playing a game haha
elden ring and witcher 3 not even in the top 10? heresy of the highest order cuberpunk 2077 first beating baldur's gate 3? unfanthomable no jrpgs at all in the list? ridiculous

Aside from your rankings, your actual comments I mostly agree with. I'd personally have Witcher 3 at the top of my list but I'm bias since I'd played the previous 2 games and read the books prior to playing it. But one thing I'll say is that based on your criticisms of it (entirely valid) you would actually really enjoy Witcher 2 and maybe even have it high on your list. Short 35hr game with the same fantastic storytelling and characters you'd expect and absolutely worth experiencing despite it's much less refined combat.

Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3 and Kingdom Come Deliverance. Hands down the best 3 rpg's in existance in every aspect, where story telling, characters, graphics, music and world building comes close to a perfect game. Surely there are many memorable games, but nothing comes close for me to these 3 as an full expierience perfection.
I respected your opinions until you got to Fallout New Vegas. You’re just objectively incorrect about it. The setting is the first best part of the game. All the rest of the good elements stem from there
I know I'm biased, being a PhD student in psychology, but despite my enormous admiration for Disco Elysium, how can you possibly like Citizen Sleeper better? The writing of citizen sleeper is pre-school level compared to Disco Elysium. Edit : that's not even talking about the arts, characters, voice actors, story, soundtrack. The ONLY thing I can understand is the dice mechanic of Citizen Sleeper, but still. Disco Elysium is objectively a better game.
@@Pat43489 writing is more basic for sure, but the message for me is what it’s all about. Disco has a ton of interesting things to say about love, politics, struggle etc, but citizen just had a simple message of how beautiful life really can be which spoke to me the most
@@FranklyGaming I see, maybe it was my academic background that made it fun to wrestle with all of those ideas. It was deeply rewarding because they certainly didn't take the easy route to portray all of the issues so common to psychology. I tried citizen sleeper for two hours and found it bland in comparison.
@@Pat43489 ya citizen was boring for a while, what really sold me was a moment near the end that I just thought was super beautiful, in my video “a game that will make you rethink life” I talk about the moment at the end. Well you've definitely convinced me to play Cyberpunk as soon as I'm able. I loved your reasoning for each of your choices, and Cyberpunk sounds like the kind of experience I treasure most in a game. I have only played around a quarter of the games in this video but my top 3 RPG's would have to be Oblivion, Mass Effect 1 and The Witcher 3. Which are also all in my overall top 5 games of all time, so maybe that means I should play some more RPG's haha!
“The thing outer worlds does so well is the consequences of your actions.” Then bashed new Vegas which did it 10x better 🤣 I loved outer worlds I played it 3 times but new Vegas sweeps easy
You know Frank, I don't agree with you on a lot of stuff. But I still watch all your videos. Thanks for providing different perspectives to me. (even though you had me banging my head on the floor when you were talking about elden ring)
Man I don't like to judge people based on their subjective opinions but I don't know if I can take you seriously after this list lmao. Did you really really complete all the games on this list?
This video culminates as contradicting oneself. He said he loves rpg with great writing but on other rank he will say it might have good writing but bad mechanics. Like be decisive on what you want? For example WITCHER 3 is rank 17? It literally has the best world building and writing plus a solid combat? Yet he complains that its so big? he said he love dark and gritty story yet in witcher 3 review he said that the world is so dark and mature. This dude is straight out clowning 😅
I love the Witcher 3 and the world I will agree for its time was some Night City depth and believability and immersion, Gheralt is an amazing protagonist but overall story-wise it’s not top 5 or 10 for me at all. The execution is out of this world but the narrative alone is not some mind altering life changing thing
I touched on that in the Witcher 3 section, it’s not writing or world building I super enjoy compared to other things like dragon age. I do like writing but only writing I like, meaning disco and Witcher aren’t as high as other things like cyberpunk for me specifically
Exactly, awesome game but the writing doesn’t hold a candle to cyberpunk 2077 in my opinion. Writing is important to me in games but only writing I like, not what is popular for most people
Technically speaking, in Cyberpunk you do PLAY the ROLE of a undead mercenary in a futuristic GAME where you have lots of ways of playing it and lots of endings depending on your choices. I think it fits very well as an RPG, more so than Elden Ring, where you do the same, but the game is so focused on combat that the other areas needed for role playing get too foggy.
Couldn't disagree more. I've played so many RPGs before, even JRPGs from the 90s and Cyberpunk 2077 has offered me the most freedom when it comes to character builds and combat styles. As for dialogue choices and how they branch out, it's really amazing how much difference you see in each playthrough. Most people won't experience that because they save scum, and try out different outcomes, mostly from the point of no return. But you truly experience the differences that your choices make when you try them in each playthrough. A lot of people make the argument that it's not an RPG because there's voice acting and that you already had a life prior to you playing V, but the same argument can be applied to The Witcher games and those are considered also as among the best RPGS ever made, and I would say that as an RPG, Cyberpunk 2077 is even better than The Witcher games, especially when it comes to character builds and combat styles.
Can you define role playing game? If you can you will have a different view on the subject. Many people said the same thing about TW3 and it baffles me
Xenogears. From all I’ve seen from your videos, trust me. The story is truly something else. Something very mature, very deep and very real at the same time.
Cyberpunk has nearly no choices and consequences, thus, The RP is very lackluster, the lifepaths are also jokes that only consist to have some cringe/flex "i know this" moments in discussion which don't provoke any reaction. But I agree with the World, the writing of the characters, dialogues and all the immersive sim aspect of the gameplay.
I surprisingly fully agree with your Mass Effect rankings. I played them for the first time this year, was completely enthralled by 1 and couldn't wait to try 2 as I'd often heard how much better it was and was so let down personally. Jack is bae though.
You made them salty with this one 😂, I love how refreshing it is to see a creator actually form and detail his reasons for the things he doesn’t like instead of hoping on the bandwagon train! Keep up the awesome content 👏👏
Im confident you will love Final Fantasy games. Your entire list is basically the same as mine. I also hated FF7 gameplay but the world building and story kept me going, I used to play using a Gameshark to give myself infinite health and 1 hit kills just to disengage the gameplay mechanics for FF games. Yet they remain my most memorable games and always in my top 5. If you havent tried thr FF 7 remake then you are missing out. Hell ill gift you a copy just try it
I am a huge Witcher fan, but I totally agree that by the end of the 3rd game it's starts to get a bit boring (not counting Hearts of Stone). You should play the 1st and 2nd, the story and choices are awesome and the pace is good, since they are much more linear than the 3rd one.
@@FranklyGamingwhy don't you try another persona game? Most people feel that Persona 4 is the best, or the 2 duology if you don't mind something more old. I also highly recommend the Shin Megami Tensei games, which are better than the Persona games for me. Seriously, try: -Shin Megami Tensei IV (3ds) -Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne -Shin Megami Tensei Vengeance -Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey Redux (3ds) Those are the best titles, in my opinion. Skyrim was a fundamental game for sure, I never liked it even as a kid though and think it is so shallow in so many ways. Listening to the music and just exploring hits hard though from time to time. Appreciate you taking the time to watch
@@breeeegs sadly it's not. Barely anyone knows of that game, it's not mainstream whatsoever and the sales numbers are rather small. The fact it's rated highly doesn't mean it's popular. Great video Frankly! And we love all the hot takes. Since you played Nier Automata, maybe you’d like Nier Replicant (its sequel/prequel). Hot take but I think it does it better in every way. Also the Fear & Hunger games have some of the most interesting lore and choices out there. Hard af though.
After replaying most of the Dragon Age franchise as an adult I ended up liking DA2 the most. There's something more personal and "human" about Hawke's story and Kirkwall being a melting pot of difference races, cultures and political views is the perfect stage for the game. I also loved how the time skips show us how the story and our choices unfold during the game. I also played Origins recently for the first time and honestly... after playing games like Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Pillars of Eternity and Pathfinder, (I mentioned these games because they either came before DA:O or didn't have anything in terms of technology that couldn't have been done before DA:O, unlike Baldur's Gate 3 for example, which would be a very unfair comparison) Origins didn't feel that special to me. It does have an amazing last stretch and a very well written story but at the same time, to me the story was a bit generic and derivative of the usual fantasy trope of "Kill the orcs, defeat Sauron." It's kinda like John Wick, in a sense that it isn't anything new or unique but it does the job it very well. We have very similar tastes when it comes to genres, I love CRPGs and Immersive Sims, but at the same time there are some placements in your rank that I would almost completely flip the list upside down and rearrange some games PS: I'll edit this comment as I see more of the video.
im a jrpg fan. A lot of what i love is the aesthetic, and the melodrama and finality of the storylines. I also find they have somr of the most rewarding character building in the genre. Usually with a lot of options that link you sink your teeth into it, but also a lot of times you arent locked into anything and can try different playstyles. Also the best of the genre show themes better than a lot of Western RPGs imo. my fave game of all time is xenoblade 3, and that game has a lot to do with anxiety of the future, the desire of wanting what you have forever despite everything in life always having a limit. The best JRPGs take these themes and show it in the most dramatic and fulfilling way. TBH its also why i like cyberpunk so much. you were spot on about why 2077 is one of the best games ever made. its so fucking emotional with characters that make you feel. I really got deep into V's character and the game talks about a lot of topics near to me. I think the reason why I love JRPGs is the reason why i love cyberpunk. In the best ones, the emotions are dialled up to 11. a lot of western rpgs dont do it as well. I love bg3 but at the end of the day the game is still a kill God game but the stakes are lower than your average jrpg. Also jrpgs have so much combat variety. it's not even funny. There are so many different battle systems in the genre.
As a long time viewer I knew Cyberpunk would be #1. But I also wholeheartedly agree. I'm someone with very little emotion. Games just don't really affect me at all, until I played Cyberpunk. I don't know what it is, but that game made me feel something over and over. It even made me question some life decisions I've made, no game has ever done anything close to that before, therefore Cyberpunk is beyond special, and easily my favorite RPG of all time.
Interesting take on ME2. Maybe it's nostalgia speaking but it had the vibe I've never seen before or since. It was like plunging into the rotten underbelly of the galaxy and emerging victorious against all odds.

Couldn’t agree more, why I put it right at the top
Phantom Liberty has some amazing endings as well. One of which filled me with so much anger and despair that I needed to take a walk. It's a game that connects you so deeply to the character you play as where you feel like what's happening to them is also happening to you. What a masterpiece.

It hurts so much that you put Pathfinder Wrath of The Righteous SOOOOO low on the list. It is the best CRPG ever imo.
Ya honestly while I play I think it’s so good in so many ways so it hurts even me I don’t like it 😂

Such a great game for sure

Although some games might actually be objectively a better RPG than Skyrim, but no game has ever gotten close to the feeling of immersion that the elder scrolls 5 gives me whenever I get back to it, that regarding I never beat the actual main quest.
Skyrim has been voted as no.1 RPG of all time by fans on every possible mainstream platform imaginable
@spark556 that's crazy because it's not even the best game in it's own series but opinions differ sometimes. ,
@@ntmr7708 I used ds1 as example cuz it's old and almost indie.

Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3 and Kingdom Come Deliverance. Surely there are many memorable games, but nothing comes close for me to these 3 as an full expierience perfection.
I respected your opinions until you got to Fallout New Vegas. You’re just objectively incorrect about it. The setting is the first best part of the game. All the rest of the good elements stem from there
Definitely disagree about the setting, the rest is great though

@Shaded_Sol thats why its an rpg. Role playing game you play as geralt its not supposed to change you but tell a story of a fictional character
Writing is important to me in games but only writing I like, not what is popular for most people
Cyberpunk 2077 is an amazing game... but, as a ROLE PLAYING GAME, is mediocre at best, btw, HORRIBLE take on Disco Elysium.
Not a fan of disco at all played it 3 times too trying to love it 😂
Technically speaking, in Cyberpunk you do PLAY the ROLE of a undead mercenary in a futuristic GAME where you have lots of ways of playing it and lots of endings depending on your choices.
Many people said the same thing about TW3 and it baffles me
cyberpunk has more roleplaying elements than disco elysium
Xenogears. From all I’ve seen from your videos, trust me. The story is truly something else. Something very mature, very deep and very real at the same time.
Anything about the Xenosaga is goated

@@FranklyGaming Awesome man! its sad how some people only watch videos to confirm their opinions. We can all learn something new from each others point of view. You been giving me some food for tought since i subbed and im glad you have this community! started BG3 because of your review and im having a BLAST right now. Also watching your cyberpunk review felt like the best way to describe what made me fall in love with that game, i absolutely love these cinematic rpg games
Peak video
Appreciate it!
Never let this man cook again.
Also, putting Skyrim that low should be a crime. It fundamentally reshaped the video game and rpg genre, and is still iconic and holds up to this date despite the bugs.
Skyrim was a fundamental game for sure, I never liked it even as a kid though and think it is so shallow in so many ways.
Listening to the music and just exploring hits hard though from time to time.
Appreciate you taking the time to watch
Lost every single ounce of respect putting Cyberpunk top… not even close to most RPGs half way through this list
Definitely disagree but I get it’s not for everyone
Ya how ikr, like how the hell is cyberpunk a good rpg? It's way too linear
Very nice video, even tho I'm a big JRPG fan and none of my fav RPG are in this list I could listen to your explanations for hours, +1 sub
Really appreciate the support! And maybe one day I’ll finally see the light lol
Horrible take on Disco Elysium
It's his opinion. I like the game but not many people do otherwise it would be a smash hit not an indie gem.
Ya a lot of my bottom picks people are not going to like 😂, I love pentiment and citizen sleeper so you might like those
@@spark556 It is a smash hit. It's one of the greatest RPGs of all time and it has a metascore of almost 100 for a reason
@@breeeegs sadly it's not. Barely anyone knows of that game, it's not mainstream whatsoever and the sales numbers are rather small. The fact it's rated highly doesn't mean it's popular. It is considered one of the best RPGs of all time but by a very small amount of people (the ones that actually know about the game).
Game is shit mate

Not what I was going for but for sure some people won’t agree with the picks haha
Controversy drives interaction. It's an obvious bait.
O views in 3 seconds bro fell off
I miss the old me
@@FranklyGaming love what you’re doing 👍
@@generalmonty4658 appreciate it!
We have very similar tastes when it comes to genres, I love CRPGs and Immersive Sims, but at the same time there are some placements in your rank that I would almost completely flip the list upside down and rearrange some games
PS: I'll edit this comment as I see more of the video.
Prey is a unique game that perfects the blending of genres that has rarely been done before. My favourite kind of game and hence my favourite game
im a jrpg fan.
This is the first video of yours I watched, and it'll be the last.
Wasteland 3 over the Witcher 3 is something akin to blasphemy in my eyes. I never even thought holding that opinion was a thing that existed in this awful, awful world
@@AkZeal76 thanks for giving it a shot! I personally didn’t like Witcher 3 as much as others, without a doubt I had a much better time with wasteland 3
@@FranklyGaming Thanks I was mostly kidding I don't think gaming has blasphemy laws. I still think Witcher 3 is a masterpiece though
Extremely weird list. ME2 the worst mass effect? Disco elysium this low? Thronebreaker better than witcher 3? Oblivion better than Skyrim? Fallout 4 the best fallout game and new vegas the worst? Prey (not an rpg lol) one of the best rpgs? This is 'frankly' just vapid contrarianism, I would say, if it wasn't for saying 2077 and baldur's gate 3, coincidentally the most popular RPGs the last few years are also the best. It's both contrarian and conformist at the same time. List isn't just weird, it's insufferable.
Not at all, I just truly don’t agree with a lot of the opinions that are popular, all of the things you mentioned here were addressed directly in each of the sections.
Putting cyberpunk at the top of a rpg list is also not conformist at all 😂
Dragon's dogma below starfield is actual insanity
