I could go on, but I almost don't want to. There's too much to correct. Edit* In fact there's so much oddly wrong info in this video, that I can't help but think that it was mostly written by A.I., and NOT double checked. The Elders? Literally NOWHERE in 40k are the Eldar called the Elder. The ONLY thing that could make such an absurd mistake in A.I. Not that I really have anything against A.I. specifrically right now, but the fact that there's so much wrong info means that SOMETHING wrong went down.
Elder Scrolls lore is by far my favorite western game lore. I been playing the games for a decade but only recently I found out how amazing and deep the lore of that series goes, because honestly the games do not do a good job at showing it to you. I love it so much that sometimes I spend hours and hours just reading the wiki, it feels like I am reading the bible with the amount of history that series has. For anyone interested, I highly recommend that when you play the games you actually read the books you find. You learn the lore way more from them than the games quests. Seriously, if Bethesda was smart they could have made so many movies or tv series using the extensive lore, and as long as it was written and produced well I am sure it could been really profitable for them. It's like having a gold mine that you rarely use. Dragon Age is another western game series with lore that I really enjoyed. For some reason it wasn't mentioned in this video but in my opinion it's even better than Mass Effect lore. Also not mentioned in this video is Baldur's Gate lore. Or the D&D lore in general, which countless RPGs use, so learning about it would take as long as learning the entire history of our real life world, but from the amount I learned with the games I played I would say its very worth the time. Btw, since Xenoblade is mentioned here, I am obligated to recommend Xenogears/Xenosaga, which was how the whole Xeno series started. Even though those original series have almost nothing to do with Xenoblade lore, I can confidently say that Xenogears had the best and deepest lore in japanese RPGs. It is well written sci-fi, mature, extremely depressing at times, heavily inspired by our real world religions and philosophies, all created by a man and his beloved wife. Anyone who enjoys a good story should play that game, and if you enjoy what you read in the game you can also go read the Perfect Works book, because yes, that game had enough lore to fill a book. Xenosaga was a prequel trilogy that also expands on the deep lore of Gears. And Xenoblade is pretty much just a whole new series that only borrows some of the original Xeno lore, but funny enough at the end of the third game they make very clear references to Xenosaga lore, so maybe the next game they make will really go back to it's roots.
OMG I am so happy to find Paradise Killer on this list, A true waporwave fantasy, and it is amazing, cool music, histerically good worldbuilding. Love this video thank you!
Dang. Acting like the FNaF lore is set in stone is wild to me. If you're not part of the community of theorizers, please know that 99% of what is being said is conjecture or just extremely dressed up for drama rather than what is for sure what happened. The community can't even agree on what year any of the deaths occur in, let alone motivations or typical daily lives of characters.
Yep, it's an insult that FNAF was included there as a lore game when what little lore there is, is super vague and incoherent, fanbase can't even agree on basic things, and no matter which theory you like, all of them are just so basic in comparison to DX or Fallout lore.

As crazy and cruel Fallout is it's not even half as cruel as read human experiments done during WW1 and WW2. (Very few of the scientists responsible got punished)
Nice video! I definitely would add the lore of the „gothic“ games … gothic 1 released in 2001 is about a prison mining colony which was sealed under a magic dome but was eventually taken over by the prisoners who split in 3 different camps … absolutely a must play and the community still releases mods and updates
@@FranklyGaming I‘m from Germany, here these games are very famous and I always wonder if people in other countries also notice this „treasure“🤔 It’s was pretty bugy tho but the atmosphere is sure one of the best

It's me, the nerd who spends too much time thinking about Myst. Just wanted to correct your line at 58:41. Gehn is Atrus' father, not his son. Atrus' grandfather is named Aitrus, however. So Gehn is Aitrus' son, but you never encounter Aitrus in any of the games. Atrus is the main character that you help in Myst 1-4.
As a follow up: it is disputed in the lore, but the generally accepted theory (the one held by Atrus) is that the Art connects people to existing worlds that they describe. Gehn holds the position that practitioners of the Art create worlds from scratch, which fuelled his god complex, but the lore seems to side more with Atrus' position than Gehn's.
Final note: Myst itself has been remade and remastered many times, and it's sequel, Riven, just had a remastered version released in June that is compatible with VR.
I freaking love the lore to these games. Watching my dad play Myst impacted me so much as a child. I’ve been addicted to the lore and the music ever since
I got to recommend the cryptic lore of Rain World. It has a similar grand civilization lost to time as some of the other titles in this video but with some spiritual and alien elements.
3:27…..welp looks like the mere mention of a something deadly being made in a “Chinese research lab” is a new trigger for me….thanks Covid lol. Great vid btw I live for lore
As someone really into the Myst series, I gotta make a slight correction to your lore. The antagonist of Riven Ghen (Atrus' father) indeed believes that the D'ni are like gods capable of creating the very worlds they link to. However Atrus has a different world view. Atrus believes the art of linking doesn't create the world but rather creates a gateway to a world that used to exist, currently exists, or will exist. Its difficult to say which one is actually correct. On the one hand, modifying the linking book has a direct affect on the world that people within the world can see happen and can stabilize or destabilize it showing an aspect of creation. However if there are significant modifications, the world seems to be on an entirely separate timeline which leans towards Atrus' theory of linking to preexisting universes. *Spoilers for the prequel book below* In the book Myst: Book of Atrus, it describes as Atrus and his father Ghen explore Age 37 (Ghen never gave his ages any names or used the names of the natives). One of the major features of the age was a giant wall of mist surrounding the island due to the warm temperature of the water around the island colliding with the cold water of the ocean. Ghen, annoyed at the native's superstition of the mist wall and trying to reinforce his image of being a god to the native residents of the age decided to make the ocean water warm to remove the mist. This did change the age, though it was rather disastrous by significantly reducing the ocean level and causing a drought. After arguing with Atrus about it, Ghen tried to "fix" Age 37 by striking out a bunch of the parts he had added rather than figuring out the underlying cause of the issues. When Atrus linked back to it after the "fix", he found it as if he and Ghen had never been there at all. None of the residents remembered him and were back to speaking their native language rather than D'ni as Ghen taught them. Basically by striking out the passages he did, Ghen linked to an entirely different version of Age 37 which gives credence to Atrus' theory that the books linked to preexisting realities. So hard to say who is actually correct as there exists evidence for both positions.
I just wanna say all your videos make my work go 10x quicker and I get to learn so much info I never would have thought about even looking into I salute you sir
I don't comment on videos that often but this is definitely one of the best videos I've watched in a while, I love this video essay style great job man!
Talking about indie games with gem of a lore, project moon games: lobotomy corporation, library of ruina and limbus company, all set in the same Universe are extremely well written and interesting.
I agree that JRPGs and their unique perspectives or characters can get a little hard to get behind, but the Drakengard/Nier series has some of the craziest lore for real. Each game has a beautiful story on its own but the loose connections between them are a huge cherry on top.
10:50 FNAF went off the deep end after 3, Scott admitted he was just making things up as he went along. It should've been a simple story of possessed animatronics, with them finally granted peace in 3 after dealing with Springtrap. But no, greed ended up ruining everything until Scott was kicked out of his own franchise for wrong think, how appropriate.
Me hearing about tyranny for the first time and noticing so many similarities with the lore of Genshin... Since I started understanding genshin some years ago, I started noticing how many games pull from Gnosticism xD
Assassin's Creed is a favourite of mine when it comes to lore, i realised just how much i loved the lore just after AC 1 because i really wasn't a fan of the gameplay of the first game at all but i was completely captivated by it and couldn't wait to play more just because of how interesting the ideas were, and despite the drastic shifts in quality across the series, the concept of the Animus is a phenomenal Sci Fi concept that has infinite potential, and has kept me interested in seeing what's next even during the worst moments in the series
Great video. Nice to see a good few of my favourites in there. Some other great game worlds with good lore I've enjoyed are: Greedfall, The Fable Series, Divinity: Original Sin, Dishonored, Kingdoms of Amalur, The Outer Worlds, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Enslaved: Journey to the West and The Darkness. So many great game worlds have been created and so many I've not yet got to enjoy.
Loved the lore of all these games. Control is another game with interesting lore. The mystery of that world really draws you in and makes you want to know more.
Im really enjoying this video but Geiger wasn’t a psychopath dude. He was a sweet, soft little man with a heart full of love and who loved his mother very much.
To be honest I’d kill for a game that works like setup to Tyranny. It’s the exposition and lore dump done right Yes there’s Suzerain, but it’s not this kind of fantasy.
Suzerain is basically political story with (literally) gameplay similar to the setup you’re doing when starting new game in Tyranny. It’s a sort of kinda world similar to post-war Europe. It’s pretty interesting
It’s weird to see FnaF on a list celebrating lore when the story is so utterly broken. The story is filled with too many plot holes to possibly count and each game only further creates more. Even the lord and savior of FnaF fans GameTheory fully admitted to create a complete timeline he has to ignore plot holes and just straight make shit up. It’s very clear the writers do not have any real answers they just make a bunch of vague mysteries and let the fans do the hard work for them. It’s lazy and it works every time. The series is horribly written.
Ya I always base it for myself more around the ideas which I think the base ideas and lore in FNAF is wild. Honestly a lot of good lore is so convoluted or messy (every fromsoft game for example) which sometimes is part of the fun
@@FranklyGaming I don’t deny that, but take a FromSoft game as an example then. In those games the story is the farthest thing from spoonfed right? You really have to put in work if you want to know what’s going on. But for the fan who do put in that work they are able to create a very solid story they all agree is absolutely what happened. There are little bits here and there people debate over, but for the most part there is a solid structure everyone can agree on. With FnaF there are going to be people who think just the little summary you provided is wrong. What should be the most basic simple details are debated. No one can agree on almost anything because the story is such a mess. That’s why the series irks me so much. None of the games you listed are perfect in the backstory, but the lore they contain is way more thought out and connected down to the tiniest details. I’d like to see FnaF improve.
Hmm a biochip, like neural link? Hmm maybe Kingsman 1 plot did have a lot going for it, that and the church scene with free bird goes wild, I’m talking about the plot from deus ex where the bio chip makes people turn into monsters, and tbh I wish the subplot with the Peralez in cyberpunk was a lot longer as that’s the kind of quests I want a lot of in the sequel games if we get them
In the Myst books the main character comes to think they don't "create" worlds through writing. He thinks theres a multiverse of infinite possibilities and their writing connects them to the existing world they specify. The bad guy thinks they create the worlds theough writing and has quite the god complex about it.
The Nedes ancestors of the Nords didn't enslave the Snow elves, the Nedes beat them in a war, the Dwemer enslaved the Snow Elves as they were long time rivals. Yokuda isn't actually the homeland of the Redguards or Lefthanded elves it is where they first landed when they came in from another time and places, they lived on Yokuda for a time until their war with one another caused it to sink into the sea, the Redguards finishing their genocide of the Lefthanded Elves, built a fleet and their leader threw a magic hammer Eastward and where it landed would become their new homeland, Hammerfell.
Deus Ex seems like was taken from the text of The Divine Invasion, by Philip K D1ck. In 1982 PKD released the story of "Big Noodle" the ai controlling the equivalent of the internet. Kids used "slabs" to ask questions about anything and big noodle sent answers...
@FranklyGaming I've always loved questions like that. Nier made me think long and hard about that exact question. I didn't know Torment even existed so imma have to check it out
Referring to the souls games lore as riddles or absurdly vague feels like a gross misinterpretation of their storytelling. There is a universal narrative in them that everyone predominantly agrees upon. People wouldn’t emotionally respond to them so heavily if all they had to deal with was question marks. And I certainly wouldn’t consider them more vague than FNAF or Scorn. Heck, Scorn is so abstract that it practically has no lore.
Ya I get that for sure scorn is a good example where it also is even more “wtf”. I guess just in general the from soft games while they have awesome lore how it’s presented makes it hard for me to get as into it as other games
I remember playing Myst and Riven when I was a kid Then I watched earlier this year a 4-5 hour long video with the lore, including things from the novels. It was amazing By the way! RealMyst is a remake and this year they released a remake of Riven!
You made some mistakes about the Warframe lore. The Orokin created and then fought the Sentients not Sentinel. After the Old War the Tenno didn't get betrayed by the Orokin, it was the opposite. The Tenno was the reason for the Orokin's downfall. The Tenno was but into slumber by Lotus to heal their traumatic experience from the war.

Kinda surprised not to see the lore of Battletech/Mechwarrior on the list. Easily tied with Mass Effect as my favorite sci-fi universe! Love the Prey shoutout. Whenever i get asked for an underrated game that can be purchased for dirt cheap Prey is always my first answer.
Such an amazing game, and thanks for watching!
Very happy to see some Warframe Lore love, its not what got me into the game but its definitely what keeps me around.
Ya wanted to get a variety of games warframe was one that had to be there for sure
i love working and having videos like this playing in the background while i decorate pastries :>>> keep it up !!
Glad to hear you are enjoying!
That AI generated thumbnail deserved a 3rd representation instead of 2 FNAF.
Something like a Xenoblade Character or a Souls-like representation.
Thought the same couldn’t get to do Kirby which is what I wanted lol. Looked for hours for an artists to do a 10/10 quality version for like $100-200 but couldn’t find anyone. If anyone knows someone with Mr beast or fine art level quality level let me know
Facts! FNAF never deserved that lore spot
Real world government: *plays Deus Ex*
Real world government: "Hey, this is a pretty good idea!"
Wow I didn't know that Q-Anon was basically fnaf fanfiction
I thought the same thing when I first heard about Pizzagate. I was like “welp the FNAFers have invaded Q-Anon”
There it is; been waiting for your lore video to drop. Putting the kiddos to bed and cracking a cold one for this bad boy.
Hope you enjoy! Loved making this one
As crazy and cruel Fallout is it's not even half as cruel as read human experiments done during WW1 and WW2. (Very few of the scientists responsible got punished)
Humanity is capable of so really crazy evil
Amazing job including some obscure titles that absolutely deserve the spotlight like Riven and Caves of Qud
Definitely wanted to get some lesser known ones in there, appreciate you watching!

Nice video! I definitely would add the lore of the „gothic“ games … gothic 1 released in 2001 is about a prison mining colony which was sealed under a magic dome but was eventually taken over by the prisoners who split in 3 different camps … absolutely a must play and the community still releases mods and updates
Gothic would have been a great addition for sure will have to talk about it in the future
@@FranklyGaming I‘m from Germany, here these games are very famous and I always wonder if people in other countries also notice this „treasure“🤔
It’s was pretty bugy tho but the atmosphere is sure one of the best
@@johnnyk.3635 i'm from spain and I still play Gothic 2 sometimes. Even with all its flaws, the atmosphere and lore is so cool
@@Astridwarhal dam right better than some modern RPG 🙈 unfortunately the developers get bankrupt a few weeks ago 😢 but I am very curious about the remake of gothic 1
Interesting will have to check this out
3:27…..welp looks like the mere mention of a something deadly being made in a “Chinese research lab” is a new trigger for me….thanks Covid lol. Great vid btw I live for lore
Glad you enjoyed it! And ya deus ex made some wild predictions lol
Torment: Tides of Numenara is but a shadow of Planescape: Torment. Like, literally.
Ya I thought about putting planescape torment since it’s the OG but I like sci fi lore in numenera more than the planes in DND
*Spoilers for the prequel book below*
In the book Myst: Book of Atrus, it describes as Atrus and his father Ghen explore Age 37 (Ghen never gave his ages any names or used the names of the natives).
I don't know how the Aether Storyline in COD Zombies wasnt mentioned
Almost included it but cut some things in the end otherwise I would have had another hour

S.O.M.A was insane horror - single player game. Its a pretty complex story, but it essentially danced around the idea of copy pasting your conscience.
Love soma I talk about it in my “most profound questions asked in games” video
10:50 FNAF went off the deep end after 3, Scott admitted he was just making things up as he went along. It should've been a simple story of possessed animatronics, with them finally granted peace in 3 after dealing with Springtrap. But no, greed ended up ruining everything until Scott was kicked out of his own franchise for wrong think, how appropriate.
Ya the lore gets just nuts 😂, appreciate you watching the video thanks
Can't blame him for everything, people wanted more and whose he to say no?
You know what would be great is if a Chinese developer made the Chinese side of the fallout universe and play in something like fallout China.
Me hearing about tyranny for the first time and noticing so many similarities with the lore of Genshin... Since I started understanding genshin some years ago, I started noticing how many games pull from Gnosticism xD
Interesting haven’t dug into the Genshin lore at all
Ahh wonderful topic for a video. Saved to watch later :)

Makes me instantly want to go play something and also motivates me to create some lore for my own universes ❤
Good luck on your game! And thanks for watching
Will have to check out some of these I haven’t hear of, thanks for watching!
The Legend of Heroes and Dragon Age too
SO GLAD BLOODBORNE IS ON HERE

FINALLY! a lore list that included W A R F R A M E !!!!
I got you 🦈
To be honest I’d kill for a game that works like setup to Tyranny. It’s the exposition and lore dump done right
Yes there’s Suzerain, but it’s not this kind of fantasy.
Haven’t hear of Suzerain but ya I hope one day we get a tyranny sequel for sure, thanks for watching!
Hmm maybe Kingsman 1 plot did have a lot going for it, that and the church scene with free bird goes wild, I’m talking about the plot from deus ex where the bio chip makes people turn into monsters, and tbh I wish the subplot with the Peralez in cyberpunk was a lot longer as that’s the kind of quests I want a lot of in the sequel games if we get them
I deal with autism yet would never let my brain be “modified” as JC Denton says if I remember correctly
And that’s why it’s so sad everytime I boot up Night City all I feel is the dreams part and not the city.
This popped up on my home page thank you RUclips 👊
Hope you enjoy!
In the Myst books the main character comes to think they don't "create" worlds through writing. He thinks theres a multiverse of infinite possibilities and their writing connects them to the existing world they specify.
The bad guy thinks they create the worlds theough writing and has quite the god complex about it.
BioShock should've been in this list.
Good gameplay is great. Good lore rules.
Couldn’t agree more, thanks for watching!
@@FranklyGamingthank you for creating this content!
Is this your Kirby gameplay? Bruh.. there's a shield literally telling what you have to do^^
Good video
a sign, not a shield. "shield" wäre Schild im Sinne von Rüstung, nicht Schild im Sinne von Informationstafel.

If an automaton is given actual human consciousness from a year of a humans live, is it human? If not, what makes something human?
Exactly a question the game asks really enjoyed the philosophy in numenera
I guess just in general the from soft games while they have awesome lore how it’s presented makes it hard for me to get as into it as other games
watching this while doing my school work
I remember playing Myst and Riven when I was a kid
Then I watched earlier this year a 4-5 hour long video with the lore, including things from the novels. It was amazing
By the way! RealMyst is a remake and this year they released a remake of Riven!
An iceberg video of Warframe would be amaaaazzing!!
The fact that portal isn't on here is criminal
You made some mistakes about the Warframe lore.
The Orokin created and then fought the Sentients not Sentinel.
After the Old War the Tenno didn't get betrayed by the Orokin, it was the opposite. The Tenno was the reason for the Orokin's downfall. The Tenno was but into slumber by Lotus to heal their traumatic experience from the war.
Control always made me think of an SCP AHS

Kinda surprised not to see the lore of Battletech/Mechwarrior on the list.
