Don't know why it took me ~8 years to finally give this band a listening, but I'm so glad I did. That guy's vocal range is amazing and his gutturals combined with his diction are pretty unique - a bit of a rarity nowadays - 10/10.

Just shows that the fans are in it for the true quality and composition of the music rather than the quality or style of vocals. True fans of music, my respect for this band and their fan base have grown to the point of no return.... Guess I'll have to buy all their albums from now on. You guys have earned it, this is real music.
You know, I love BTBAM and they have been my favorite band for years. However, I have to admit this isn't my favorite sound they've had, since they always seem to sound different every new album. That being said, this video is incredibly well done, and the good thing about music is that their old material doesn't go out of existence once the new material comes out. I will say that my favorite part about this album is that I can introduce people to BTBAM without them automatically being turned off by the sound of screaming.
All hail the masters. Thanks tommy paul dan dusty blake for the nonstop eargasm. You guys have been my favorite since alaska all I listen to for over a decade keep it up night owls.
With all of my heart I hope that Oklahoma City and really the whole state will show up to give you the welcome that you deserve when you come here. I know that they won't and that sucks. But know that your real fans in this place love every minute of all the art that you've created and we'll continue you to praise you in what ways that we can
Tommy's vocals on this album sound great. They fit perfectly with the music. That's one of the biggest things with this album. Not that they didn't before, but they do now more than ever here on coma ecliptic.
Just saw these guys perform and they killed it with this song. This band will never disappoint me. Colors will always be my favorite album but their more progressive sound has always been my favorite aspect of theirs. I hope they continue to explore this side of their music.
+Jason Murillo If you think that ending is good, listen to the last song on the album, "Life In Velvet" truly the most insane ending to any album I've ever heard.
I like this, and will totally dig on wherever direction this band heading. Been a fan of them since The Silent Circus came out back in 2002, and they have yet to disappoint me.
Sam K That's a bold statement but I can see why you would think so especially if this style of prog metal is more you're thing. I do agree that I enjoy this more than their first 2-3 records but Parallax 1 and 2 to me were just fucking brilliant. They were beautiful blends of what was and what has become of this band and it just blew me away. People always obsess over Colors and I can see why but me personally I've enjoyed their last 3 releases much more.
I thought parts of TGM and Parallax I were great, but a lot of it was just meh, I don't know if I would personally rank them above Colors. Parallax II however, is probably their best release to date, unless this surpasses it.
Sam K I think it will. The first two songs alone have me drooling and foaming at the mouth like a rabid wolf lol. Again as for Colors I rank Alaska above that record so that shows you how I feel about that album personally.
I listened to this song for the first time when it had come out. I wasn't sure about it because I didn't like their older stuff but I gave it a chance. I've never regretted it.
I don't know about yall, but I'm ready for another one. I wish there was a new one every year lol. in the 14 years I've been listening to them (now I feel old), I've never been dissapointed. I think I've only seen Paul miss 2 notes in the 6 shows I've seen them. Flawless live!
Definitely, I get that also. Thought it was jus me hearing that. It is not a bad thing tho, that's one of the best influences to have, and the realy pull it off. I like it
Amazing song. They never cease to amaze me. Upon scrolling down the comments and reading some of the typical arguments you'd find on any song from an artist that has changed direction, I've noticed something. The people praising this music tend to have better spelling, grammar, and valid points than the people passing negative judgement on the song after a half of a listen. It's so one sided when comparing the comments. Some of the trolls on this video seem to be clearly lacking education. My guess is that the majority of the people that dislike this song probably can't decipher it.
It's the piano doing that chord progression. I'm a little rusty on my Muse, but I think it's United States of Eurasia that has the bit I'm thinking of. The rest of this album has a lot of Muse influence too, but just in feel.
never got around to listening to btbam before (although i have listened to tommy's solo stuff), and so far, out of the 2 songs i have heard so far (this and memory palace) i have been blown away.
Barely even paying attention to the song itself . I love it when music videos are done to look like it was all in one take, although almost every cut was pretty obvious, this is still so awesome!
Ive been discorvering so many amazing bands lately! Its been so fun! Just discovered this band, tesseract, the contortionist, the faceless. All of it is amazing!
Can someone explain what the song is about or at least the video? I'm great with music but absolutely suck at interpreting what lyrics or a video mean lol
According to the Wikipedia page for the album: "The band has stated that the concept of Coma Ecliptic involves a man stuck in a coma, journeying through his past lives. It was added that the man faces a choice to either stay or move on to something better." Perhaps this video, even though it's an early track on the album, demonstrates that choice he makes; killing the weird sack-hooded being, and then (I think) turning off his life support at the end of the video.
Wow. I haven't listened to BTBAM in years but they were one of the first heavy bands I ever listened to with The Silent Circus being my first exposure to this band. They have come a long way since then. Most bands from that era have broken up or don't make the same quality of music but these guys are still kicking it.
Listening to the production on this track is like biting into a really awesome cookie. It's so organic sounding and it's just straight up pleasing to listen to. Of course it takes some solid writing, but it all works together so well.
I'm embarrassed it took me so long to give you guys a chance. I guess your name suggests more generic cookie-cutter hard/death metal vibes than what ur actually doing. I'm so happy I came around. :) Thanks and keep it up!
BTBAM will always be my favorite Prog Metal band ever you guy rock and fuck all the haters who dislike these guys, no one will have the talent this guys have period!!!
This is awesome. was wondering when they were going to go full program metal opera. Love it. Definitely a step in the right direction. I think their best album will be somewhere between this and colors where every part sounds iconic and the transitions are smooth.
I'm sure BTBAM fans will love this and their new album like it's their newborn child and hate on me for what I'm about to say, but I've kinda been disappointed with their ever increasing propensity toward the oddly progressive. I've always been aware of them but didn't start listening until shortly before Colors, however Alaska is what turned me on to them. I loved Colors as it seemed like a natural progression from Alaska in terms of heaviness, melody, weirdness, and song writing. Great Misdirect is where I get disappointed with their further journey into being progressive more than heavy. I can't fault them for that, but I've always felt Colors had the perfect balance of metal heaviness, hardcore beginnings, and balanced progressive melodies.
I can't say I've been disappointed by their other CD's, but I couldn't agree more that Colors has the best balance. Sure, they've progressed in some areas since that CD, but it just went so many more places than anything else they've done
Matthew McClure Yeah, I should have made clear in my original comment that I still like them, it's just hard to listen to their cds from Great Misdirect on because of their inherent progressive nature. I like progressive metal, I'm not a huge fan but I'll spin some records from time to time. What I loved about Colors and their past work is that almost each song stands on its own. After great misdirect, emphasis has been put on the progressive nature molding and crafting the whole album into basically one long song rather than a separate parts. I get what what they're doing and that's fine, but when I listen to GMD and on, I feel like I have to listen to the whole cd in sequential order. Colors I can basically start from any point.
***** You understand that musically speaking, Colors is a concept album as well? It was meant to seem like one solid piece of music, instead of 8 separate tracks. Every album since has been made the same way, but the concept of each is just more complex. The last 3 releases from them produced some of my all time favorites from them (Fossil Genera, Lay Your Ghosts to Rest, Lunar Wilderness, Astral Body, Extremophile Elite, Disease, Injury, Madness) and I have zero problem listening to them out of context. I'd put all of those songs over just about any song from Colors (except White Walls because, fuck.. It's White Walls). These 2 new songs are great as well, especially this one. The thing I like the most about post-colors BTBAM is that they've gotten a lot better at writing/composing. All the transitions are smoother, it's a lot more coherent. Colors was a bit messy and all over the place, which made it great at the same time, they've just done a bit of maturing. But.. Music is subjective and yada, yada, so it's just my opinion obviously and nobody has to agree with me.
Marc Dunn And that's great for that band, I don't listen to their music at all, but I can't help how I feel about BTBAM's music. If I don't particularly like it as much as their other stuff, I just don't. That's it
***** that's alright. I'm sorry you haven't enjoyed their later releases as much. That tends to happen as band progress and change their sound. Some bands I liked years ago have turned to shit in my opinion, and some have gotten even better. I think btbam have vastly improved. Although they have lost some of their heaviness and wild energy, they have become better song writers. Most importantly though, they are for sure making the music they love. Ain't nobody telling btbam what to write. And that makes me happy. Luckily, I love the same stuff they love. You don't, and now I'm done stating the obvious.

A friend of mine made me dicover BTBAM about a year ago but it's not until I went to their concert 2 month ago that I started really listening to them . This one and Lay your Ghosts to Rest were the two songs who made me realize how good this band is. The whole show was great starting from the opening act by Haken to the end of Btbam (I'm pretty sure it would have been amazing if only we could hear the bass and if Tommy was in better shape because he was not very right in his singing). I went home and listened to all their albums again and now I listen to some BTBAM everyday. I saw that some people said it was prog rock and I first I thought "Have you ever listen to (prog) rock?" but then I gave it a shot and listened again and I found that the parts where Tommy screams (or growl I don't really understand the difference) are really close to Hard-Rock while the parts where he sings clean are more metal(lic?).
Holy shit. My boyfriend got me into this band and this is my favorite song. I listen to this song all the time when I start to write and they're just amazing. :3

Is there any particular reason why, out of all the things you could have said about this great song, you mentioned a similarity, in some parts, to another song to try and cheapen it? Fuck you, man. I mean really.
Michael Davis WOOOWW let's take it easy, It's a great song and a masterpiece, I'm trying to play this on my guitar right now, it's just sounds like Ghost.
4:30 and on omg Got into btbam way back when I was a young man and my taste is constantly "evolving" every couple years and I feel like BTBAM has always set the tone for what I like. I feel corny listening to constant screaming anymore and Tommy has always had such a wonderful voice. I really hope the whole album is similar to this track. Gotta be some moments where Paul gets to shine too though. I've dug his "grown up" approach to phrasing over the last couple records, I just hope this dynamic shift doesn't lead to less guitar flash. Blake still like "yeah, I'm the best" this whole track. And I might just have shitty headphones but I didn't hear a lot of Dan's typical flair either.

Yes! The mixing is mind blowing.

Memory Palace grew on me, but his one right here.... is awesome.
One of the most talented bands in Heavy music. They never disappoint. Such a wide range of styles. Great song. BTBAM for life.
If Blake doesn't get more exposure from his drumming on this song. I'm gonna lose my shit.
I told him during a meet and greet that he is so underrated and he responds with "I know" hahahaah it's so true! He doesn't get enough credit.
Or all their songs. Lol. Everything from colors to parallax two is insane. Coma and automata are also incredible
...And Alaska
Coma Ecliptic could be an hour long loop of this song and I'd still fuckin buy it!
BTBAM has an uncanny ability to sound more like themselves with each new album. I don't know how they do it.
Rellek for me this song ends as soon a he starts screaming. Screaming vocals are my cup of tea, he's just so bad at it. Its so dry and weak sounding
Memory Palace is fucking great, but this shit is beyond amazing!! this is gonna be easily one of the best albums of the year
Easily.
Plot twist: the remaining songs are actually ambient music with narration
Yes
Dillinger Spaceman As a Spaceman once said - "damn this shit is fucking great nigga "
Nick Buchanan you know me nigga
All hail the masters. Thanks tommy paul dan dusty blake for the nonstop eargasm. You guys have been my favorite since alaska all I listen to for over a decade keep it up night owls.
6:27 Ah yes, Noose Bear. One of my favorite childhood toys as well.
This deserved more than it got
My God...perfect. Video, audio, modes, rhythm, panning, EQ, balance. Artistry, CGI, acting. NICE M8!
these guys never fail to surprise me. Truly amazing band.
With all of my heart I hope that Oklahoma City and really the whole state will show up to give you the welcome that you deserve when you come here. I know that they won't and that sucks. But know that your real fans in this place love every minute of all the art that you've created and we'll continue you to praise you in what ways that we can
Show of hands, everyone. Who else has listened to Haken?
+aragorn767 Of course!
One of my favorites, they are.
Are they similar to BTBAM
+Dylan Suriyaarachchi Yeah, if you like BTBAM, there's a strong chance you'll enjoy them. Try the album "Visions."
+jefeltner11
Thanks, I'll reply to tell all you what I think
Between the Buried and Dream Theater
Al Pra I would so see that concert
They played a while ago together. It was pretty amazing.
DT with mucchhh muchh better vocal, and that’s amazing
more like haken tbh (if we get nitpicky)
This era is like a mix of Dream Theater and American Head Charge.
Damn that whole song was badass but that ending? Are you serious?! Pure gold.
+Jason Murillo If you think that ending is good, listen to the last song on the album, "Life In Velvet" truly the most insane ending to any album I've ever heard.
It's truly beautiful
I like this, and will totally dig on wherever direction this band heading. Been a fan of them since The Silent Circus came out back in 2002, and they have yet to disappoint me.
Say what you will but so far I am really liking this even more than their older songs
Sam K Crap I don't remember saying this.
Sam Keith lol
I slept on this album soooo hard, but am I ever glad I woke up and listened to it. God damn, I'm in love!
I listened to this song for the first time when it had come out. I wasn't sure about it because I didn't like their older stuff but I gave it a chance.
I've never regretted it.
Ive missed BTBAM so much they always make excellent music can't wait for the new album!
One problem with this.....it ended. Brilliant as always!
I don't know about yall, but I'm ready for another one. I wish there was a new one every year lol. in the 14 years I've been listening to them (now I feel old), I've never been dissapointed. I think I've only seen Paul miss 2 notes in the 6 shows I've seen them. Flawless live!
I dig the song! I don't know why, but I'm getting some totally kickass Faith No More vibes from this!!
Definitely, I get that also. Thought it was jus me hearing that. It is not a bad thing tho, that's one of the best influences to have, and the realy pull it off. I like it
On their cover album they covered a faith no more song.
***** Dunno if Faith No More, or just Patton. You know, that guy is taking a shit and what you get: a perfect symphony
IDK if they still have it, but the singers keyboard has a Mr Bungle sticker on it. So they're definitely Patton influenced.
This and Memory Palace were both great... I cant wait to see them live again when the album comes out!
It's like a little movie with awesome music perfectly synchronized.
Tosin Abasi couldnt have said it better. ANYTHING goes in Progressive metal.
i love that mix of the aggressive metal with simple piano notes holy crap this song is amazing
In a weird way this reminds me of muse
hahaha but muse from at least 10 years ago I think
+Thraitor They started about 10 years ago but still going strong.
+Robin Ferris they started almost 22 years ago
It's the piano doing that chord progression. I'm a little rusty on my Muse, but I think it's United States of Eurasia that has the bit I'm thinking of. The rest of this album has a lot of Muse influence too, but just in feel.
+zOMGREI the progression is I-I+-vi-I+I
So simple, but so beutiful
never got around to listening to btbam before (although i have listened to tommy's solo stuff), and so far, out of the 2 songs i have heard so far (this and memory palace) i have been blown away.
I never wanted it to end.
Barely even paying attention to the song itself . I love it when music videos are done to look like it was all in one take, although almost every cut was pretty obvious, this is still so awesome!
It sounds like Dream Theater, but if Dream Theater didn't show off constantly.
And if Dream Theater had a good vocalist
@@SuperYertleTurtle NOw you're just talking shit
@@SuperYertleTurtle yeah I was never a fan of dream theaters singer.
@@Kuntitled James LaBrie can sing on pitch. That's about where his skillset ends. He's the reason I can't really get into DT.
I'm changing my mind about this band. It's all good. Opeth, Haken, Igorrr, Jinjer, Native Construct, Leprous, Plini, Spiritbox... The list never ends!
The struggle of eating cereal out of a pot.
the struggle of running ou of pots to eat cereal out of, and having to use a plate
According to the Wikipedia page for the album:
"The band has stated that the concept of Coma Ecliptic involves a
man stuck in a coma, journeying through his past lives. It was added
that the man faces a choice to either stay or move on to something
better."
Perhaps this video, even though it's an early track on the album, demonstrates that choice he makes; killing the weird sack-hooded being, and then (I think) turning off his life support at the end of the video.
Sounds like after however many years BTBAM is still enjoying making music, and I'm still enjoying listening! and watching!!!
Gave me chills.. Also gave the other comatose me chills!
Wow. I haven't listened to BTBAM in years but they were one of the first heavy bands I ever listened to with The Silent Circus being my first exposure to this band. They have come a long way since then. Most bands from that era have broken up or don't make the same quality of music but these guys are still kicking it.
mosh at 4:45 is so dope
Listening to the production on this track is like biting into a really awesome cookie. It's so organic sounding and it's just straight up pleasing to listen to. Of course it takes some solid writing, but it all works together so well.
I'm embarrassed it took me so long to give you guys a chance. I guess your name suggests more generic cookie-cutter hard/death metal vibes than what ur actually doing. I'm so happy I came around. :) Thanks and keep it up!
Holy shit I just realized this video is supposed to be one continuous shot. I can't wait to see these guys in less than a day.
4:23 Can it get any better than this?
This song gets better and better each time I listen! And growl, sing, coo like a dove, Tommy Rogers has a great and dynamic voice.
reminds me of the fact that i'm a spiritual being trapped in a human body
BTBAM will always be my favorite Prog Metal band ever you guy rock and fuck all the haters who dislike these guys, no one will have the talent this guys have period!!!
3:25 reminds me of Haken.
***** and Devin Townsend!
***** are all BtBaM albums like this? I thought it was a deathcore band ¯\_(.__.)_/¯
Moses M. Listen to Alaska.
BTBAM "deathcore band" what a blasphemy!
Fun they are on your with them right now
The whole album is so perfect and beautiful!!! Can't stop listening to it)
3:38 is so great. Reminds me of Bicycle Race by Queen.
This is awesome. was wondering when they were going to go full program metal opera. Love it. Definitely a step in the right direction. I think their best album will be somewhere between this and colors where every part sounds iconic and the transitions are smooth.
6:39 watch your head lol ahahaha
necromirtoman Said the same thing when I first watched this video. :P
necromirtoman Yea, I love it. It adds to the chaos of it all and feels way more real, rather than choreographed and acted out.
Braeden Laverty still I believe that was not on purpose ahahahah
necromirtoman Oh, for sure, but I am just glad they didn't reshoot the scene. Thats a good directorial decision.
Wow, this just blew my mind.
Btbam, your production quality is getting better and better!
Sounds like a heavy metal E.L.O.
I just saw this song live tonight in Houston . It's epic !
1st chord scared the shit outta me
This song and video are amazing, cant wait to listen to the rest of the album!
Matthew McClure
Yeah, I should have made clear in my original comment that I still like them, it's just hard to listen to their cds from Great Misdirect on because of their inherent progressive nature.
Marc Dunn
And that's great for that band, I don't listen to their music at all, but I can't help how I feel about BTBAM's music.
You don't, and now I'm done stating the obvious.
du métal atmosphérique plein de subtilités ,innovant ,c'est une sacré découverte ,le must ,jubilatoire ,à la fois progressif ,çà décoiffe
Blake Richardson
I love you guys and in my dreams you are producing musicals with your awesome music. I wish there existed a thing like metal musicals
I want to really like this but I can't :(
Sucks for your broseph!!!
David Scates Lol it really does, It's growing on me a bit though
kevstew26 Same here, man.

Thanks BTBAM and contributors. This is pure art and just what I needed.
Ah...I miss Mr. Bungle

You teach us what was.
You teach us what was out there.
You teach us what was.
You teach us what was out there.
Lift our limbs to focus.
We soon drift through the night.
Lift our limbs to focus.
We soon drift through the night.
The getaway
We drought the clouds of life
A quick escape to velvet
Start to drift in slumber
Smoke fills the velvet room.
No more options to cope
A glimpse of hanging rope.
Madness embraces the vault
Cannot wait any longer
A string of lights blink
Mesmerize my senses
A pulse that keeps me together
For one last time
No more options to cope
A glimpse of hanging rope.
Madness embraces the vault
Cannot wait any longer
A string of lights blink
Mesmerize my senses
A pulse that keeps me together for one last time
Lift our limbs to focus.
We soon drift through the night.
You teach us what was.
You teach us what was out there.
You teach us what was.
You teach us what was out there.
Travel through a string of tears.
Screams crash down like waves... flushing my mind of a new world.
Climb the hill of the wrist... enter oblivion.
Oblivion.
Foreshadow the shadow
My last exhale...
Knees crash down on.
My last exhale...
Knees crash down on.
Now rewind.
You teach us what was.
You teach us what was out there.
You teach us what was.
You teach us what was out there.
What once was.
sounds like dream theater
Who eats cheerios out of a pot?
KriegReptileMaster there's are better way?
Holy shit. My boyfriend got me into this band and this is my favorite song. I listen to this song all the time when I start to write and they're just amazing. :3

Ghost - Cirice
It does sound like it! Wtf XD Coincidence?
And by chance the singles were released almost at the same time xD but yes it sounds pretty similar, almost a Rip off.
WTF (his brain explode)
Is there any particular reason why, out of all the things you could have said about this great song, you mentioned a similarity, in some parts, to another song to try and cheapen it? Fuck you, man. I mean really.
Michael Davis WOOOWW let's take it easy, It's a great song and a masterpiece, I'm trying to play this on my guitar right now, it's just sounds like Ghost.
what part i dont see it?
4:30 and on omg
Got into btbam way back when I was a young man and my taste is constantly "evolving" every couple years and I feel like BTBAM has always set the tone for what I like.
