    Me: "I mean Jump Cancels exist in a lot of games. That doesn't necessarily mean they're any good in he-"
    *SSSmoke chains like 8 Revolvers in mid-air that you can't even tell are multiple moves*
    Me: "...alright, then."

    • @darkdestructer
      @darkdestructer 3 года назад +1

      thats actually one of the easiest moves to practice with, the trick behind jump cancelling is just being close to your enemy. Most jumpcancels fail because you aren't close enough to enemy step

    • @izanagi2488
      @izanagi2488 3 года назад +1

      Jump cancels are pretty easy in this game. I practically just spammed jump and aerial rave. The star rave was also easy if you just slide your thumb on the pad to switch between sword and trick whilst spamming style action button and jc.

    Wow, I've played DMC for years now, but I always stuck to the default control scheme just because it was what I was used to. But after watching this video I finally decided to mess around with it and I was amazed the results. Despite still struggling against my muscle memory, I went from never consistently jump-cancelling to being able to near infinitely jump-cancel in one afternoon. Don't know if you'll read this, but thanks SSSmoke.

      @@SSSmokeStyle After a bit of tinkering I settled on melee on X, jump on square, change DA on circle, change gun on triangle, style on R1, gun on R2, lock-on L1, and DT on L2. Of course I'm using a ps4 controller. I find my thumb naturally lands across X and square, so it's nice and comfortable to slide my thumb from attack to jump.

    Ok dude. You got me. I was shaking my head through the whole Nero part. But I was wrong. You got me. I just stepped into the void and tested with the following:
    X jump
    [_] sword
    O DT
    /\ buster
    R1 breaker
    R2 lock
    L1 exceed
    L2 gun
    Dpad breakaway
    I can already tell a difference, it will take some getting used to, but wow what a difference. So much ease with JC, and even bringer knuckle! Insane. Thank you for your video.
    Idk if I can ever wrap my head around jump on a shoulder button, but I think it will involve a shift in the way I play (I barely JC, mostly do enemy step for style)

On him you should have quick access to exceed, charge gun, jump and devil bringer (for devil knuckles) and I tried using your settings but its very hard for me to jc, exceed and charge gun all at the same time. Great channel tho, love your dedication and skill.

    I used to put Dante's style action on A button, but that turned out to put quite a bit of strain on my thumb, so I gave your scheme a try (except I put style to B and gun to RB since that would better align with my Vergil setup). Honestly, aside from getting used to the Dante claw with the left hand (so I don't clamp down on LT all the time and enter SDT by accident) and breaking old muscle memory, it is such a good control setup. I found myself already using more gun actions (compared to when I put gun on RT), switching styles more, and being more varied in the air. I just need to get used to it in due time I feel.
    Just need another 400 hours so the two Sparda boys can be equal.

    Dmc3 was the first dmc I loved to death, I mapped my controls to have jump at triangle, and sword/style next to it so square and circle. Here's a pretty good aerial juggle with Dante
    And the best part is it's done entirely with balrog
    So you start out and kick mode
    1) you lock on forward attack this should launch your enemy into the air and you with them
    2) Now you press back and attack while locked on to switch to punch mode
    3) Once you're in punch mode you do the input for attacking one time
    3) then you switch back to Kick mode
    4) Once in Kick mode press the style button on sword master
    Repeat steps 2 through 4 as desired
    Maybe throw in some aerial rave and jump canceled revolver while you're at it

  • @DavidHosey1
    @DavidHosey1 3 года назад

    Maybe I'm just weird, but I've found that things are perfect with default for Dante. The other 3 I end up changing, but Dante was perfect for me default. Plus I always thought that jump canceling was easy going between A and Y, and that lock-on was the most comfortable on RB for everyone. Idk if anyone else feel the same for that, but I think they chose the control scheme for Dante really well

    I keep Dante on default.
    With Nero, I re binded his gun to the right trigger, Devil Buster to square, Devil Bringer to circle, Devil Trigger to left bumper, and break away to the down directional button.
    With V, I put finishing move on triangle with Griffon and Shadow on the triggers. Auto Attack is circle and the book is square.

  • @Blaze8798
    @Blaze8798 2 месяца назад

    I know it's been a few years but here's my control scheme and why
    Melee = Y [i usually leave melee as default in games unless it's an extremely weird button]
    Gun = RT [same button as most shooters, and an easier button to hold when needed]
    Jump = A [i don't have an issue with the Y>A jump cancel motion as it's not literally simultaneous and i don't play on turbo]
    Style / D. Breaker = B [i don't have any issue with the default button here / i have back paddles to help with holding it when necessary for nero]
    Dante DT = LB [easier button to hold and out of the way as it's more niche]
    Exceed = LB [Easy to press precisely during combos with my opposite hand]
    Nero DT = D-Pad [not frequently used and this frees up the bumper for Exceed]
    Lock-On = LT [i like my left hand to be mainly movement and style switching so this eases some of the load]
    Change Sword / D. Bringer = X [right next to the melee button so it's easy to quickly switch and attack / interrupt with bringer after melee hits]
    Change Gun = RB [right next to the gun button]
    Breakaway = RB [out of the way so i don't accidentally press it when i don't want to]
    Does this make sense to you? Any glaring cons that would make some of your common routes difficult?

    You know as weird as your jump button being mapped to LB sounds it kinda makes because I use something very similar in Titanfall 2 on PS4. In Titanfall 2 there’s a pro maneuver you can do called bunny hopping where you have to press jump and then crouch pretty much immediately after which allows you to hop around the map and if timed correctly you can get around quickly keeping all your momentum, and doing this with X & O (A & B for you) consistency is nigh impossible. So what you do is change to the Evolved control scheme which maps your jump to L1 and crouch to R3, the only thing you really have to get used to is other than remembering X is no longer your jump button is that, X is now your ability use, and O is your melee.
    I’m still nowhere near pro level and I can’t even remotely fly around the map like GameSager can, but I can bunny hop pretty effectively and I’ve gotten used to the controls enough that it no longer bothers me and is actually comfortable. I will most definitely try this out when I play DMCV. Now I’m just left wondering if you can do something similar for DmC 🤔, because I’m like one of the few people who actually really likes that game.

    • @SSSmokeStyle
      @SSSmokeStyle  3 года назад +1

      Interesting. I've never played titanfall but it seems like that's pretty technically demanding

    • @RokushoTheRavager
      @RokushoTheRavager 3 года назад

      SSSmoke, The funny thing is that if you’ve never played Titanfall 2, watching a video of it or even a montage looks confusing as fuck because you have absolutely no clue what’s going on. However with that said it looks way more complicated than it actually is, which is the same thing people say about DMCV. Course for me personally my specialty is shooters and I consider myself pretty good at those, but I also really love action games like hack & slashes. God of War, Ninja Gaiden, & DMC are right up my alley and I’m no pro but I’m decent at playing them. Definitely better than fighting games at least, those I just suck at 😓
      I mean yea I suppose in some ways Titanfall 2 can be technically demanding, but once you play the game enough and you get a feel for how it plays, it’s not as daunting as it looks. Course I’ve played it a lot and I’ve hit gen 6 so I may be a bit biased here, but I don’t personally feel shooters are nearly as demanding as hack & slashes or fighting games, though I would argue DOOM: Eternal is the exception.
      I even put together a dope Titanfall 2 montage 3 years ago and I got some good feedback on it if you wanna check that out. Not really any bunny hopping but there’s some sick frags and plenty of variety. Also I did make a video on the DMCV demo with what I feel was the best gameplay I could get so if you feel obliged you can critique that as well.
      Regardless, because I’m kinda rambling at this point, your videos and combos are sick as hell dude. I just went through and I think I watched like 7-8 of your videos so yea, subbed.

    I like to keep all the characters control schemes as similar as possible but I will say break away for Nero I will always have on the d-pad, that function has only 3 practical uses for me, canceling gerbera’s stem Ray, canceling tomboy breakage if you need your default moves, and detonating punchline when you just want to use it as a missile. I guess what I’m saying is, breakage is absolutely useless once you have DT!

    I cant deal with jump on the bumper. I play on dual sense so i keep it on Cross, then to make jump cancels easy i have melee on Square so i can just hit jump and melee without moving my thumb. For nero i have gun on R2, Breaker on Triangle and Bringer on Circle, that way i can access the melee+breaker super move input, since if you leave the breaker on circle you have to do terrible claw gymnastics since melee is all the way over on square. Same thing for vergil with teleport on triangle and summon swords on circle so i can hit those Melee+Trick super inputs easy.

    I learned how to play DMC5 with the default controls for most of the time playing it. Now I need to relearn the entire game because of how bad the original controls are. Those should not be the default because they're far too limiting. I guess they made it simple for more casual players to understand them better but in the long run it hurts the people who want to keep playing the game long after they finished the story.

      THIS!!... It took me so much time and effort to get used to my own custom controls, bc I played for months with the default until I found someone online who suggested I try remapping some of my buttons to allow me to be able to more easily do combos and stuff. But once I got used to it, my skill increased a ton.
      As for Nero in 4 and 5, I saw 'shoot' mapped to X/Square and knew right away I had to immediately change it to a bumper/trigger. I mean, FPS games have the shoot button there, and Nero has a gun, so it just made sense to me since I play FPS games. As of right now, I even have 5's Dante 'shoot' set to LB/L1. Nero's is on RB/R1.
