- Playing DMC5 with default controls can make it difficult to utilize your entire moveset effectively, so here's a recommended setup for new players as well as a quick overview of my own layout which you can use to take your skills to the next level!

Trying to play as dante with this setup after 800 hours with the default controls is breaking my brain

@@EmiHnH i returned to my setup, i swapped DT for switch guns and lock on for switch swords (Because they need to be hold very often and the triggers are better for it)
This really is breaking my brain
When I just try to make stylish combos with Dante my brain broke

I've played Devil May Cry since I was a kid, and I've never thought about changing the control layout. Gonna try this, thank you!

thx dude I was looking for ages for a layout that felt similar for dante and nero yours feels so natural the only thing I changed is lock on to l1 and dt/devil bringer to l2 I play claw and my middle finger gets tired easily that's why :D

It is true that L2 is the best button for Lock-On, whether Xbox or PlayStation. As you say, we want the buttons we use often to serve as these shoulder buttons, and L2/R2 are the optimal shoulder buttons. Back in DMC3, I had L2 as Lock-On and R2 as Jump. As it was vital not only to dodging, but also jump-canceling. I'm a bit disappointed by how unnecessary it has become now to have R2 as Jump.
Putting R2 as gun shot is an option... I will however continue to heed my previous setup and continue using R2 as Jump... because I will return to DMC3 again someday, and don't want to fuck up my progress.
Are you doing a NERO and DANTE Jump cancels tutorial in the future pls!?

Broly2012 Haha, Thanks man. I love that Nero playstyle is about technicality and creativity. V is the easiest to play and grab an SSS tank but I do also need to practice multi-tasking both summons comboes. Dante is the series protagonist and he is most versatile and complex one yet to chain a perfect string of comboes- definitely need help on that!
For Nero, after 2 hours - i am getting the gist of the 3 aerial jump cancels and timing of the exceeds. I can stay airborne for a long period of time!
I am still trying to improve the gun shot stock cancels, whenever you charge your gun, the first shot automatically fires, gotta attack right before my gun fires , Yeah.. improving on that front.
Overall, I love love it !
My idea for V's controls would be (sorry if I'm copying from you):
Cross button: Jump (obvious).
R2: Griffon.
R1: Read book.
Square: Charge Griffon and Shadow DT.
Directional buttons: Summon Nightmare.
Square button: Killing blow.
L1: Taunt
L2: Lock-on.
For Dante, something similar (he's got so many different moves, it's hard for me to map a custom control scheme).
This is a really sound configuration. The only thing I may change is exceed from () to L1. I haven’t unlocked D.Bringer yet so I’m not exactly sure how the cookie will crumble.
i personally always put jump on triangle plus style on circle with melee on square so im always able to jc easily with every move bc the buttons are next to each other, x is guns for dante but on nero im using r2 for guns to charge it all the time while x becomes devil bringer while circle replaces devil breaker. also lets me use stuff like showdown with square+x which are next to each other. Only issue im running into is charging devil breakers isnt as easy as I hoped it was, but manageable since i dont spam these 24 7
I'm assuming you left Nero's DT on the D-pad seeing as it wasn't listed in the image, but would you have put breakaway there instead or at least consider it depending on the frequency that you use it by? Do you find that having Exceed on O really helps with the timing of it with melee swings as well? Because I know you can't just hit Exceed at the same time as the melee; but it's more dependent on when the attack ends.
Welcome back to DMC!
I changed mine to:
Square for Devil Breaker
L1 for Shoot
R2 for Break Away
O for unused (which was used automatically in mission 20 O_O)
and the rest as the same as the are on default.
Used to claw my right hand when needing to charge shot on default controls in DMC4 as Nero so I now just use the same claw on the right hand for charging Devil Breakers.
For V, I swapped R2 for Auto attacks with L2 Charge Devil Trigger.
For Dante, I've left it as Default because that's what I was used to in DMC4. The only problem with that is that I still have trickster up switch to SM instantly so I keep fucking up.

Hi I'm not sure if you're going to see my comment, but I'm thinking about buying DMC4SE. Do the PS4 controls shown in the video transfer okay over to DMC4 for dante and nero? Want to start practicing for when I'm able to get DMC5SE, since it could take a while before a PS5 is available.
On the base xbox controller, where does nero's devil trigger go? d-pad?

What about devil trigger for Nero? Were should I map it?
Excellent control layout proposal for both controllers. I see absolutely nothing wrong with them. Unfortunately for me, my muscle memory after playing DMC3 for over a decade is just too deeply ingrained, and I don't have the patience or willpower to reset and relearn all that accumulated muscle memory. This is why I have decided to play DMC5 on PC with mouse and keyboard controls, which are surprisingly very well-designed on DMC5. Everything is almost default except for moving the switch lock on target key to the ALT key instead of CTRL.

Hmm....I've been using a a weirder setup for Dante that worked well, but yours kinda makes more sense.Time to reasign 150 hours of muscle memory, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey
I like the regular control scheme even if it's harder to charge your Gun with Nero while fighting.
I changed his gun to R2 and trust me, i get tripple S like nothing on DMD mode. I understand not wanting to switch though. It was a tough choice for me lol
Can you make one for vergil? When DMC5 SE comes out of course lol
Hi kind of a late comment but I may be able to help. For the most part you can have the same controls as the PS4 setup shown, the big one is having your DT on a shoulder button. Vergil plays a bit like dante, except you don't have to worry about changing guns.

2:21 that controls looks good or bad I made a good controls for Devil May Cry 5 Square is for melee attack and the Circle button is for gun attack and Triangle button is for Style attack

Im upgrading my Dualsense with the Besavior kit. Back buttons for practically everything.
Is anyone having a problem with the (Unused) thing that appears in Nero’s controls? I cannot seem to get rid of it.
That's for the Devil Trigger and Devil Bringer you unlock in endgame.

Default Dante setup is fine, Nero I reverted his db back to dmc 4 and moved dbreaker to the shoot button while moving the gun to r2 and v apparently auto assist makes v missions trivial

For some reason I can't customize the d pad buttons separately (in dmc 5 nero's controls) all the d pads selected all together at once when I try to customize them ( but I can customize them separately Dante's controls)😭 in short I can practice Dante (with controls suited for lefthand ) but can't do the same with Nero's controls the game doesn't allow
For nero's controls to be suitable for lefthand .And I don't want contradicting muscle memory practicing Dante with my left and Nero with right 😭.THAT'S THE PROBLEM!
@@muhammadtanjim359 I don't think that your dominant hand matters playing video games, all of the left handed friends that I had never had a problem playing video games so you will probably get used to it.

I just did jump cancels with default controls. And it isn’t easy. So I came here. And some of your controller set up does not work for me. I’m too used to lock on being on R1
Breakaway is better on dpad so you dont do it accidentaly

2.) joystick oh....the joytstick gives me anxiety.
took me alot of time to learn and find the most optimal way to play DMC5 on Keyboard and Mouse
and now i'm rocking with the "Smoking Sexy Sexy" on keyborad :D with ez
it's pretty sad cuz alot of games are on controllers that I couldn't play without the bullshit controllers
@@Ahlem_DMC interesting. I've tried Dmc5 and similar action games like Elden Ring on keyboard and it just doesn't work for me. Mind you I also think there are certain peripherals which excel for certain types of games. Shooters, keyboard and mouse. Fighting games, arcade stick or hitbox, etc.

I disagree with Dante’s layout I played good as is
The only reason i see to change dantes controls is for gunslinger. If the shoot button is on a trigger, you can simultaneously press the trigger and B.
But like you, i enjoy my dante to be default regardless.
