Not gonna lie, my first time fighting Virgil in 5 I got my teeth kicked in about 10 times until I started actually thinking about what he meant with that phrase, it actually helped me lol
Every tutorial out there is either "RG him" or "get lucky with the hat" But not everyone is going to want to try those. This video was very refreshing.
Vergil is a moderately difficult boss to beat, but if you remember the fundamentals of i-frames you can beat him easily. The hard part is trying to beat him stylishly, because he can punish you hard for being careless or overconfident.
@@TV-MA.x_x. The entire point of DMC... is not to just overcome the enemies you're facing, but to style on them in the most dramatic, over-the-top, and theatrical ways possible, and you're just saying 'nah'? Foolishness.
I suppose that the most efficient trick for beginners is to [royal guard] vergil's summoned swords. It is easy to do and gives you a good amount of DT energy. Also thx for the guide, balrog + jump is very simple and yet amazingly efficient(and i totaly forgot about it...)
Been playing this franchise since the very first one, and I still lack the patience for/ cannot work Royal Guard. And the risk-to-reward factor of it skews WAY too heavily to risk for me to be motivated to try and figure it out. So speaking for anybody who just can't stand or work that style, damn fine video.
Another beginner tip I'd add: If Vergil is guarding in the last phase and you don't have enough DT gauge for a DT Stinger, switch to Balrog (Kick Mode). A few hits (exact number depends on how many times you already hit the guard) should break Vergil's guard, giving you another combo opportunity.
Flintwheel is legitimately one of Dante's best moves in the whole game. It has I-frames, is super easy to parry with, and is a launcher while in DT+Swordmaster.
Just parry his ass with your weapons and beat the living shit outta him when he's on "charging mode". You can also Royal Guard the lightning discharge from the charge mode, it's a quick 3-hits and you can release on the 3rd one for a Stylish ending, even tho I don't see it being used that much.
Easiest way to kill him is this: Use King Cerberus revolver to easily parry his swings, once he's stuned and tries to charge his sword charge Red Hot Night to level 3, I think that one shots him in any dificulty
@@Pini8782 Tbh there are much more ways than just spamming revolver for easy parries, some are: Flintwheel(Kick Mode Balrog) Any Combo from Cavaliere Dance Macabre dash hit(Any Sword with Swordmaster Lv3) Switch Kick/Punch(Balrog) Updraft(Balrog Kick) Ice Age(Cerberus) DT Full Throttle(Cavaliere) Poleplay(Cerberus Swordmaster) Revolution/Turbulence(Cerberus SM) You get the gist, there's more but you've got more than enough selection to have fun while fighting the boss, I personally dislike the usage of RHN with Faust because it oneshots almost anything and makes the game too easy tbh.
@@Bonemannes Yeah I said it was the easiest, not the must fun, what I like the most to do against him is dodge with balrog fists and dodge with i-frames from the beggining of cavaliere attacks, I also remember once I parried him with Real impact while in DT, hypiest shit ever. Cavaliere Angelo it's a really fun battle, second best boss after Vergil. Srry for my english tho
Another tip. If have dual Kalina Ann (first one can be found in mission where Cavaliere Angelo boss fight is, second is given in mission 18) and if you at decent range from Vergil you can break him out of his fight attack. Enable gunslinger style while he charge in the middle of the arena, dual Kalina Ann, lock on + forward + hold style will charge a turbo lazer that will cancel his flight. It is a risky move due to the recovery that can be cancelled only by going in SDT. Good luck.
I honestly think the best way to play him initially is to persevere using royal guard. You get to learn his moveset off by heart, get great style and don't have to learn Dante's tricky combos. Also, learning his attack patterns can also help when fighting him as Nero in the next mission. Obviously it might take a while to learn all of it, but I think it's worth it
In order to learn Vergil's moveset better when I was a beginner I simply played the Vergil mod and watched Vergil videos from older games. Learning the combos myself helped me expect the combos when fighting him

An interesting tip I learned a while ago. Dance Macabre's start up animation has a massive ass parry window, and when Vergil starts dropping Summoned Swords from the sky, it just basically opens him up for alot of damage and stun. Just be careful on which sword you have equipped at the time when performing DM though, because that could get you in trouble if you mix it up...
Great beginner tips! I really like how you stuck to just two styles and didn't show exotic counters to flight mod or JCE. This is a really great video to show to friends who are just getting into the franchise, whereas many other "easy tips" videos use stuff that can still vex newer players. I'm an old hat, and even I learned something! Thanks for spiral stinger as a counter to doppel. I had been using DT shotgun/rocket shots, but it feels a bit risky and inconsistent.
awesome video! i'd also like to mention that the double kalina ann big ray blast (forward + style on gunslinger), if done in front of vergil when he takes off for his flight, will knock him out of his flight and disable his dt.
Another good one that i found very useful in the beginning, to get some damage safely in particular when he's in DT form, is to send the summoned swords on him by holding down B/Circle with swordmaster and releasing after a bit to have the four summoned swords fly to him and damage him, it takes care of any swords he summons around him as well and allows you to just keep dodging in the meantime, it's completely free. Likewise, the summoned swords are great to get rid of his summoned swords around YOU, although you can't do that when you have your own summoned swords already on him... In any case, it's a great tool in this fight in my opinion. Also, although it doesn't help to beat him, I think this fight is great to practice Royal Guard overall, from easy moves like when he shoots swords or dive from the air, to the harder ones like the 4 judgment cuts in a row, there's a lot of opportunities to get used to the Royal Guard mechanic in this fight.
I already made another comment but a great combo I found for damaging him when he's open: stinger, DSD combo B into Cerbrus forward spin, then one of a few things for the sake of style: swordmaster style then cerberus flame staff combo A or Cavalier combo A. Both finishers will knock him back mid combo, but you can dodge/jump cancel and if not the animation will recover more than fast enough to react to whatever comes next
I was wondering about that one. I discovered it by accident in my playthroughs, but all the variants of it did seem like the easiest option for most of the fight.
Dance macabre(first hit) is kinda safer to parry Vergil's rapid slash and his eary summon swords shooting. It has fastest and surprinsingly big parry window in front of Dante. Another great choice for parrying beside Revolver and Ice age.
