The best in its class. Far better than Tenere, on road and off. Best electronics too. Seems like everybody agrees (watching RUclips videos) and I have friends with the Tenere, they want the Tuareg now. 😉 It's expensive but it's worth every penny!
I totally agree Chopsy! If you're spending most of your time on the road in an urban situation, then get a road bike, I definitely wouldn't recommend an adventure bike. If you're thinking about buying a motorcycle, one of the best questions you can ask yourself is what do you really need the bike for. I've got a Yamaha Tenere 700 and for some situations it's been a great bike, but generally it's not great around town where I mainly do most of my riding. It's quite a big bike, it has long soft suspension, it's heavy, and it has a high centre of gravity. It can be quite a handful, and it can catch you out if you're not use to riding a tall adventure bike. Even though I've enjoyed riding my Tenere 700, and it's made me a better rider, I came to the conclusion that it just wasn't the bike for me. So, last week, I bit the bullet and went out and bought myself a brand new Suzuki SV650, because my Tenere 700 will be going very soon. For my situation, and even though it's a basic bike, the Suzuki SV650 will do everything I need a bike to do, and, crucially, it's a far easier to ride around town than an adventure bike. Even though I've not done that many miles on it, so far, I've been very impressed by the Suzuki SV650; its L-twin engine sounds wonderful! So, choose your bike wisely, because in the long run you will save a heap load of cash.
I just purchased a Taureg. You said that the off road mapping reduces the power but it actually doesn’t. The off road map turns off the Nannies and provides the strongest mapping. Urban mode is actually the weakest power delivery. Explore mode is the middle. You can however create a custom mode that mimics off road but with the power delivery cut.
I like the Tuareg, but I do not regret buying a T7. I got my suspension from Touratech, because I'm a 100kg with gear. I would rather spend my money on proper suspension, than on fancy electronics. My T7 is a perfect companion for the Alps now. For this type of travel bike, I go with the most reliable, which is the Yamaha and not Aprilia, KTM or Husqvarna. CP2 engine is very torquey, too and sounds great.
@@LauriLevola I went to a Aprilia dealer last year, to test ride the RS660, bike was for maintenance because of electrical issues, no test ride for me. I know, this is just a single case, but you must find out yourself... To many useless things in this bike which could break, easy bike, easy going, simple as that.
Aye, I think they are equivalent to the Anakee Adventures, so mainly tarmac focussed and the odd gravel road. For UK green lanes, I'd want a more focussed tyre as they are so wet and slimy this time of year, in summer they would be fine I imagine.
I have a 2021 AT AS and love it for the beat-up rural roads on the way to the Sequoia National Park and Forest. I think I need BOTH bikes in my stable!
The Aprilia Tour Egg. Beautiful bike. I’d take a T7 because Italian brands don’t place dealers anywhere near me lol. To be fair Yamaha cant supply the demand so it’s a wash 😭😂
You're so right if you're even thinking about a bike and its available at the time you better get it because you never know if you'll see it again I made mistake with the klx300 couldnt believe it would be the only one around definitely a sellers market and the dealer knows it KLR 650 everywhere but for gow long? There are a few Himalayans around also I think Ill get the KTM 500 excf before it disappears in my area.
@@kevincraig8257 yep! my husky dealer told me the 690/701 enduros are now discontinued. I then called up my KTM dealer and they said they haven’t heard that at all. So now it’s that actually is true I was going to shift towards a fe501s. So far the only thing I don’t like about it is the maintenance schedule (‘due to laziness) the vibrations I’ll have to see with a test ride. but new stuff is coming out all the time.
The way Yamaha are treating their dealers there will soon be more Aprilia than Yamaha, certainly in the south of England. On Yer Bike have switched and Powerbiking in High Wycombe are doing the same in a couple of weeks.
I love the look of it, and here in Australia bikes like these get taken out into serious off-road conditions, but I think these smaller Aprilla’s like the 660 RS/ Tuono don’t need any electronics other than basic traction control and ABS, just a waste of money and gimmicky on a 80-100 hp bike. The RS 660 learner model is around $19000 here in Australia. Love your reviews. Thank you.
Camera and audio is so good in your vids 👍 I opted for the 890R, the weight actually feels less on the 890. Also worth factoring in that the Aprilia will need crash bars whereas very few 890 owners fit them, that will add 7-8kg.
'the seat is very deeply padded but quite thin'; what you meant was the 'seat is very deeply padded but quite narrow'... The styling is beautiful and attractive with thoughtful touches like the extended mudguard and the unique taillight...
Interesting bike. I don't know why but when I look at those bars and engine there's a smidgen of Bultaco flair. This bike is a lot more refined than a Bultaco but more flair than a Tenere.
Brilliant review as usual Chops you do put a bike through its paces buddy. You leave nothing out and I like your honest and unbiased remarks. Keep em coming “top man” you are best on RUclips 👍😃
V85tt you can get for under 11k chops and although not as road focused it a do what most would tempt to do .I would like to hear you comparison on that bike with the group you've been chatting about .
Hi Turboman6680, I traded in my V85TT for the Tuareg 660 and am super happy I did. I loved the MG and have had others in the past, but it's almost a 100Lbs heavier than the Tuareg, and the Aprilia's seat allows better movement. I'd say if mostly on road go with the Guzzi, but for better 50-50 look at the Tuareg because less weight and suspension are huge upgrades. The only ding on the Tuareg is that it runs really hot on your right leg due to the catalytic converter being close. Accessories are not as easy to find as they are, and when you do find them, they are quite a bit more expensive than the MG sadly. The V85TT put out no heat in my experience. Good luck.
Sounds awesome! To me it looks better than the Yamaha and the KTM. It has a bit of an E.T. looks to it. It's different, great review chops! Would be cool to see the Norden 901 and your thoughts..
I will stick my head out and say its a better buy than the T7.More electronics, tubeliss etc.The only down side to me is the Aprilia dealer availability.Cheers
I sat on this recently and the quality was superb. You could easily do a long tour into Europe on it. Its a shame you cant easily swap out the spoked wheels for normal cast wheels for the road
Good review 👍 Its a great bike! Ive just swapped to a '24 Tuareg this week from another mid size adventure that retails at about 3k more (!) and I am far happier with the Tuareg. It handles better; sounds better; imo looks miles better and it is just way more fun to ride! After two long days on it I didnt want to put it away and I cant wait to get back on it.. I really feel like I am riding it, whereas it felt like there were layers of insulation between me and the ground on my previous bike. Re weight, if intended for any real off road it needs a decent bash plate and crash bars which will add about 10kg. If you want to see what it can do off road in capable hands watch some of Ad Will's videos on North Wales.
This is great but it says two things to me. Firstly that 660cc would transfer to the V4 engine at 1320cc so if they need to get through emissions or a little more power its a maybe. Mostly though this shouts there may well be a V4 version in the wings. Personally I think these smaller capacities make more sense for an adventure bike but there still seems to be a massive market for large (over) engined adv bikes which almost never see dirt.
I ordered a 2023 Tuareg 660 last month here in North Florida thinking that it would be a little less expensive than maybe a KTM 890 Adventurer, I was wrong! The 23's cost $300 right off the bat more than the 22's, and Aprilia raised the Shipping charge up to $1999.50 (from about $400. last year)
If Piaggio got their act together and sorted the Aprilia dealer network out they would be a real challenger for the likes of KTM and even the likes of Ducati… their bikes have the ability, quality, reliability and Italian design flair and desirability already just need to have dedicated dealers… no one wants to take a £24k RSV4 Factory to a scooter shop! I am not the average buyer as I have been a motorcycle technician so happy to look after my RSV4, and even better it’s easy to work on.
Your complaint about the power off road was because you were in the wrong mode for off roading like a dirt bike. Go to the individual mode and you can adjust the power delivery and ABS controls (front ON rear OFF) and other variables. Aprilia doesn't charge you $800 extra for that feature like KTM does. The Taureg is much more refined on and off road than the KTM.
Must admit, it has my interest, well specifiedand the tubeless tyres and electronics package would seem worth the extra grand. I had, from new, the original Tuareg Wind 600 with the Rotax engine and it was a gem, will there be a decent dealer network and backup though ? there was not back then, did not even stock spare levers or clutch cable back then... just basic service parts.
I had one of the Original 562cc Rotax single Tuaregs too, bought it secondhand and used it for a bit of everything including a two up trip to the south of France 😁. It was a great bike but as you said, dealer support was practically non existent. I struggled to replace an indicator lense that I damaged in a low speed drop, luckily I spotted that it was the same part fitted to Triumphs of the time and sourced one from them. Great memories of riding that bike👍👍
Best combo for some, having, both, a triumph tiger 660 sport, and a Honda crf300l will do it all for them. Sure this one bike is for those who want just one bike for multiple tasks.
To funny watching you go down a fire road. Technically it is off road for an adventure bike. But it’s not really off road by off-road standards. Kudos for you taking it down a fire trail. Most adventure reviews don’t take there bikes off road. Nice review Chops.

Looks slick & great. Italians know about design. But what about reliability & dealerships ? Think i will wait around for the new Honda Transalp this beloved legend needs to return and fast the rumours been flying around for too long now. 180kg, modern, uncomplicated, dirt oriented & with the brilliant DCT as option. If anyone can build this Unicorn Honda can. With the Honda Transalp legendary reliability & Hondas broad dealerships around the world it will be a winner. Untill that day i will ride My XL650V from 2005. The Power Of Dreams
4 x as many folks have commented on this video as Aprilia have sold models(including demo stock to dealers)...talk about a bike brought to market far too soon? Hopefully they have got on top of their QC issues, and are the ones currently for sale got the good con rods? Going to be going very cheap shortly, if they cannot sell them?
Now January '24...372 sold in the UK,about a 10th of Yamaha Tenere 700's sold...though reliability has improved, now that factories are back to being fully staffed!
God vid choppsie like the bike think it looks great, but then again if someone says it is ugly then i will like it. Top bloke keep the good work up. Stay safe 🙏. Mick.
I used to trail ride a gen 1 Pegaso and currently have a Gen 1 Caponord 1000 (which, I take on 'light' off-road trails), but would love a T7, 790 adventure or one of these (also like the look of the Ducati Desert X), but it needs to be able to take a beating, because I'm too childish to restrain myself from trying THAT lane... until I fail..
Awesome to hear your thoughts on the bike, I loved the engine on the Tuono 660. I think in standard form, this is still a bit tall for folk like me, so would need Aprilia to release the low seat, and possibly some aftermarket suspension lowering. My V85TT is an 830mm seat height, and even with the preload set at it's softest, I still occasionally struggle to get a foot down... that is a much wider motorcycle though. I can't wait to get a demo though, it is a very interesting bike for the adv riders out there! 🙂
More Great content..cheers chops. The middle weight adventure market is exploding right now. Chops please do the Norden 901 if you get a chance... I think it might be my next bike. Ive current got an X-ADV 750 but there's just not enough clearance or travel to do anything serious and I really wanna do the TET so change of bike is required I think.
I have an MT09 which is great but I have been very curious on dual purpose bikes like this. Was thinking it would maybe open up some potential new places to go 😎
Totally off topic, but some great moments here. Loved the test card and hopefully 'Bobble Hat Lady' didn't need to sign a release form for putting in an appearance! :D
I think maybe a better way to ask the question is "How often will you have to turn around and go back because you wont continue the road with the bike you are riding?" Ok, maybe not a better way, but that's why I ride an adventure bike with knobblies when I'm out exploring. Sometimes you just need to get though a 1/4 mile of ruts-n-muck to keep on going.
Who’s that bird think she is interrupting your intro 🤔 Haha. Loved this as usual, buddy! Great edit, some real world testing conditions too. Learned quite a lot. WheelsMotorcycles are my hero for lending you so many amazing bikes👍🏻 New helmet mount? Didn’t seem too bad, maybe tilt that bad boy up just a bit. #TeamLCR #WheelsMotorcycles
thanks for the reply chops, i to have the big Litelock , it's this Go moto smaller disc lock i came across on there site i can't really find much info about . many thanks sean . ps what have you done to DesmoWorks , haven't seen him since you teamed up with him !! 😂😂 you haven't locked him in a workshop to put yous back together have you ! 😂👍
Afternoon Lamb Chops, could you tell me what editing software you use, please? Your videos and effort in them is top-notch keep up the excellent work entertaining and informing us 🙏
Thanks Chopsy. I think it’s too-wa-reg, that’s what the Bedouins in Morocco are called. How does it look in person? Had a look at one at my local dealer last week and it looked a bit plasticky & cheap. Thought my T7 looked better quality. They didn’t have a demo bike yet, due later this month. How was the CoG on it? I think the KTM 890 and Tiger 900 Rally are pretty low, T7 carries it up high. Would be fantastic if you can do a comparison with the T7, Tuareg, Desert X and Tiger Rally Pro giving you a £9500 to around £14000 price range.
Saw on another review of the Tuareg that it also carries its fuel tank lower than other bikes, similar to KTM, and that it even has a small pocket storage space where the tank would normally sit in the higher position.
Hello, was just wondering what's going on with cameras? Don't know if you switching between 4K and 60fps 1080p cameras on your videos now? But its confusing my RUclips and autos back to 480p every now and then?
I appreciate this is easy for me to say, but the roads looked quite dry....I think you're underestimating the road going ability of those tyres, just a tad.
HI chops , great test , a question thats nothing to do with this review , but do you know anything about Litelok GO moto flexy disc lock ? cant really find much info about it ? many thanks sean
Hi Sean, I do have a Litelok. I think it's a decent product. I'm not sure if it's a go.. it's lightweight compared to a chain and like any lock is a decent deterrent 👍
Shame that he has no experience with Dual sports bike or he would not be so afraid of the knobs tires!! Little he knows how much you can rip on the twists with this tires! Just short of "track day"... that's how good they are... and I know from experience of having them on my 790R and ripping on the famous "The Dragon" in Tennessee
Yes it would, but any stiffer would have made the offroad worse. Was actually not using the full travel on the front so not sure any stiffer would have helped much...
The bike will still work off road if you sit down you know! Back in the day nobody bothered standing up unless it was a jump or you were doing 50 mph plus. I think its bloody stupid really. Not having a go at you but everyone on RUclips is ALWAYS standing up off road and its ridiculous. Love your channel and good video - jus take it easy and have a sit down!
nice video chopsy but if i was going to spend that sort of money i would rather buy a second had bmw gs which is better on road and just as good off road also better fuel range but thats just my opinion
Oh I do like this sort of thing, with lighter bikes. So much so, I bought a bike that can do some of this at my pace... Just need to find my local lanes now 👍
Great effort Aprilia! whether you like it or not there has never been a better time to be a motorcyclist

I agree, tried both the Touareg and the T7 this weekend and felt the Aprilia was better.... just the reliability and quality that makes me hesitate..
Seems fairly priced.
Nice review & looks like a very decent machine. Aprilia are on to such a winner with their 660 range as they're all great bikes.

Please also throw in the GS in that comparison...would be an excellent video!!
GS is at least 50% more expensive and weighs over 50kilos more.
Fantastic review! Looks like a winner!
Nice review as always. It would be good to compare it against the new transalp when it gets released.
I'm sure the transalp will never be released. We will be riding electric motorcycles by then. Honda don't really have a frame or an engine yet.
I hope Honda builds a new lightweight, capeable & dirt oriented Transalp with the brilliant DCT as option.
Thanks Pete, yes it does feel quite bike.. I've not tried the V85 so can't compare 🤷♂️👍
Really enjoyed the review (as always)I reckon she's a bit of a looker and sounds awesome, what Aprilia doesn't?
Me likey very much… now there’s a question over the Transalp, this is right at the top of my list at the moment. Cheers chops. 👍👍👍👍👍
The transalp doesn't exist and is only speculation. Buy this bike with confidence
not that i can find , i really don't know if it's a newish product . no worries chops , . keep up the good work 👍
More Great content..cheers chops. The middle weight adventure market is exploding right now. Chops please do the Norden 901 if you get a chance... I think it might be my next bike. Ive current got an X-ADV 750 but there's just not enough clearance or travel to do anything serious and I really wanna do the TET so change of bike is required I think.
Yes will be testing that one at some point 👍
I have an MT09 which is great but I have been very curious on dual purpose bikes like this. Was thinking it would maybe open up some potential new places to go 😎
Chopsy, why did you edit-out the race track section of your review? 98mph isn't bad for a tall naked bike! 😉
Shhh you never saw that! 😆
Totally off topic, but some great moments here.
Loved the test card and hopefully 'Bobble Hat Lady' didn't need to sign a release form for putting in an appearance! :D
Haha thanks buddy 👍
Revisiting this video again. Is that low front mudguard easily clogged with muck?
The lithium battery must help the dry weight too wet weight. 187kg-205kg and a 19l tank. Usually 191kg-214kg with 16l is normal.
Looks nice, for what it is. Reliability? The T7 could do with these wheels.
Good video the Chopsy! 👍
Best intro ever!
Peaks on helmets are damned handy in winter sun
Did you mean "TWAA-REGG" I test rode one at the weekend just gone and placed my order there and then. 👌
Thanks Mike, yeah the woman made me jump! Haha 🤣
thanks for the reply chops, i to have the big Litelock , it's this Go moto smaller disc lock i came across on there site i can't really find much info about . many thanks sean . ps what have you done to DesmoWorks , haven't seen him since you teamed up with him !! 😂😂 you haven't locked him in a workshop to put yous back together have you ! 😂👍
Afternoon Lamb Chops, could you tell me what editing software you use, please? Your videos and effort in them is top-notch keep up the excellent work entertaining and informing us 🙏
Thanks buddy appreciated 👍 I use Sony Vegas
Hi! Is the Tuareg engine more funny than the SMCR one country side roads?
I think there must have been something wrong with the TFT as it recorded a top speed of 98 mph?
:) yesterday I test rided one here in France, and the top speed recorded was 187 km/h (117mph). Definitely something wrong with the TFT :))
Yeah it wasn't me guvnor! I had only just ridden 1 mile 🤷♂️
Beautiful bike super review sir.
For touring bikes 90% on road what other bikes are out there with same price and electronics package?
Good looking machine. Will it be as reliable as my t7 though?
No chance in hell.
At this point I don’t even think people are asking this question, they are just beating the dead horse
I very much doubt it 👍
Bring back the RXV550, Aprilia, go on, do it.
Yes weight does feel a bit high compared to 890 adventure but simar to Tiger 900 👍
Saw on another review of the Tuareg that it also carries its fuel tank lower than other bikes, similar to KTM, and that it even has a small pocket storage space where the tank would normally sit in the higher position.
Good review Lamb Chop. You need to get out with Mr Fish on the off road bits.
Thanks Lyn, was hoping to get out with him Sunday but he's having a sofa delivered... priorities eh! 😆👍
What about the BMW GS Adventure 850 ? any comparison ?
Hello, was just wondering what's going on with cameras? Don't know if you switching between 4K and 60fps 1080p cameras on your videos now? But its confusing my RUclips and autos back to 480p every now and then?
I appreciate this is easy for me to say, but the roads looked quite dry....I think you're underestimating the road going ability of those tyres, just a tad.
Urbane pro trousers. Cool at this time of year? Thinking of buying a pair.
Yes very good, I wear an undersuit and was plenty warm enough 👍

I actually like the looks but not an off roader, viewed the GSXS1000GT today, now there's a bike. Cheers Choppsy.
That's arriving next week! Must say I am looking forward to testing that 😎
Have a look at a Ninja sx too Dave. I’m loving mine.
@@markharrison2484 used to own a Z1000sx which was a fantastic bike, but understand the current Ninja sx better still, thanks Mark.
In India they have a single cylinder version but it is air cooled
HI chops , great test , a question thats nothing to do with this review , but do you know anything about Litelok GO moto flexy disc lock ? cant really find much info about it ?
many thanks sean
Hi Sean, I do have a Litelok. I think it's a decent product. I'm not sure if it's a go.. it's lightweight compared to a chain and like any lock is a decent deterrent 👍
Hasn’t TMF done a vid about these?
Be interesting to compare it with Triumphs offering when it hits the market..................
The rally str is a 20 off road 80 on road. Even on wet tarmac there good
poor insta camera in the bush haha :P Very Nice Bike i like that good price point as well
Haha yeah poor thing! Proper earned its money there! 🤣👍
Hope the 98mph top speed when you scrolled through the menu was on a closed road lol ,great review would love to see the 3 middle weights out together
Nice bike, would have looked better i think with a high front mud guard
Nice looking bike. 👍
Yo chops in one of the videos you mention the vest you waer can you send link please
It's in the description 👍
I hope you recorded your off road session on the enduro bikes, I could do with a laugh ;)
Yes I did 🤣 coming soon 👍
Having the bike sprung for your actual weight, rather than the standard 180lbs rider, might take care of the on road handling. Thoughts?
Yes it would, but any stiffer would have made the offroad worse. Was actually not using the full travel on the front so not sure any stiffer would have helped much...
How does the engine/exhaust sound compare to the Tenere 700?
I’ve ordered a blue Tuareg late last month.
Sorry not ridden the T7 yet
@@LambChopRides Looking forward to see your comparison video!
Yea mate they only stand up when there’s a Camera on .. soon as it’s off , they sit down.
Standing is for using your body weight for balance and your legs for suspension.. not everyone wants to jackhammer their spine.
nice video chopsy but if i was going to spend that sort of money i would rather buy a second had bmw gs which is better on road and just as good off road also better fuel range but thats just my opinion
That price for a 660! Are they serious?
Oh I do like this sort of thing, with lighter bikes. So much so, I bought a bike that can do some of this at my pace... Just need to find my local lanes now 👍
The first Aprilia I don’t like the look of, maybe it looks better in the flesh.
