Agree with you about the size of Adventure bikes. I went from an R80GS to a R100GS which off road was far too big and heavy. This Husky 890 is supposedly a milder version of the KTM. I'd be happy with either but I wouldn't want anything bigger. Apparently you can get two upgrade suspension packs. Looks a brilliant bike.
Fun allrounder it seems! Really enjoyed that review, buddy. Top notch edit as usual! You know what they say, 50 is the new 40🤜🏻🤛🏻! Good luck Friday (if Andy still is hosting that livestream) Have fun, and hopefully you can share an update on the future move into new place 👍🏻🆒🎥🎬
Great looking bike in my opinion too John, great vid as always. Please get that SMCR out for a vlog series this summer if you can, nobody else in Sussex / Hampshire seems to have them except us...
Most reviews from others who do real off road riding have stated the suspensive is on the soft side if you truly push on proper ruff tracks, though that goes for most adventure bikes. I'm looking forward to the Ducati Desert X, I hope you can grab one soon to test Chops!
Love your vid, bike looks awesome, reminds me of a WW11 despatch riders bike for some reason. Although the cameras feel like you are on a green screen, especially the rear back pack view... an effect from the 1980's. . . . eh its all good. Thank you Sir
Nice review bud! It's a good looking machine, but it looks like they brought in the mirrors and screen from an ebay auction, they just don't gel with the rest of the bike. I'm sure lots would disagree with me here, but I think it might have benefited from having a much smaller engine, 400-500cc at most, nobody really needs any more punch than that on a bike like this, plus it would bring the weight right down to something manageable too, especially reassuring when you inevitably bin it coming off a slippery tree root or muddy rut in some back country lane. I do like it though and it seems to behave really well on the street. It does have its foibles, but I could probably live with those.
As always a great video 👍🙂 Don't think KTM/Husky will be using ' it comes with ball bag fuel tank' and the off road TC allows for great spinnage in their ads - great description nonetheless Chopsy ! Fantastic bike.
I love the looks, and this review has seriously weighted my thoughts on adding this to my stable. Thanks chops, I think…. Lol. 😉 really appreciate your efforts, keep em comin. 👍
mine is in for its first service now. so far im also impressed , seat of the pants feel it feels like half the size or weight of the 1190r/1090r or africa twin ive had on road and especially off road
Must say the 901 is so well balanced (you can almost balance it at the traffic lights 😉) and handles superbly on the road and is so comfortable, will make a superb long distance ADV touring bike. The standard screen is a bit of a let down tbh, why not have an adjustable screen if your going to fit a low screen like the 1290 ADV R. Agree with you ref the spot light switch and indicators.
This would be a fantastic bike on the sheet for touring. BUT after I rode a 200km test ride today: The windshield is AWFUL! When I stand up, my helm is very silent, only a whiff of wind noise. When I sit down its a complete mess. Very loud, booming. I am 1,86 m. Also, the engine is made for offroad revs. You can extremely feel the "Ready to race" - it is brilliant for half an hour of fun in the dirt, but that is not what you need when touring. When trying to go a constant 50 km/h, the engine jerks and is unsettled. When going around sharp corners, shifting down, and pulling on the gas it takes ages until the engine responds. VERY different to a bowden cable. I don't understand that this design is so thought through offroadwise, yet on crucial touring topics fails. (Riding in South Germany / Middle Austria, 80% Tar, 20% Offroad)
Excellent review Chops. For me, an 'adventure bike', should be capable on 'all' surfaces, therefore, there will always be a compromise, on, or off road. It appears, that Husqvarna, have got it right with the 901?! Very capable on 'all' surfaces, not better on some than others. Also, IMO, your ADV, shouldn't be too big or heavy. If you're going on a true adventure, you'll be loaded up with gear, possibly riding solo, in remote areas. Obviously, you'll have an 'accidental, unintentional, rapid dismount' at some point, and you will need to pick up your bike.........alone?! How many people can lift a fully laden GS/KTM etc. on their own, after hours of riding? Also, you don't 'need' a massive 30l fuel tank, carry jerry cans?! Just my opinions, but I think Husky have nailed the ADV bike with the 901. Grumps.
@@DavideGTI86 Yes I’m pleasantly surprised, as my T7 was similarly frugal. Friend has a 2022 KTM 1290 Super Adventure, when riding with me at my steady pace, he’s lucky if he can near 50mpg. 😉😁
good review choppsy sounds like a good bike from what you said there as been said by visor down this week Yamaha my be bringing out a 900 ten with the triple cross plane engine in it that will be interesting if it happens .
Great vid there, totally agree about most adv bikes being far to heavy, might take a look at this, wander how the reliabilitys going to be? Nice review there though.
Wait for the Norden 1301, just around the corner! Doesn’t matter what you think about the overal design, KTM/Husqvarna have got it 100% right with the fuel tank design. Makes the bike carry its centre mass very low and has a very positive effect on handling and physical manoeuvrability of the bike. T7 Raid has slightly addressed this, but in my eyes they didn’t go far enough, should have made the new fuel tank even lower. The new Triumph 1200 Tiger, although much lighter than its previous version, people are still commenting on its top heavy feeling!
The new T7 WR is almost 20kg heavier than the standard bike and thats all up high as its all fuel and hardware, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it feels top heavy like the standard T7. Yamaha missed an opportunity to copy KTM with the “ball bags” tank design.
Very enjoyable riding video and oh how I miss the meandering English countryside for full on fun riding. Now I live in Canada and ride in straight lines :(
I love the look of this bike and I’m sure it’s a great bike but I currently own a 2020 790 duke and I’m so sick of the oil and coolant leaks and the anxiety of reliability I doubt I will ever buy a KTM again.
Later 990’s we’re very reliable and capable of really high mileage , the weakest link was usually the owners , especially chumps who go off-road and are mechanically inept and zero empathy for their bike , the highest mileage I have seen with no real issues was 250k miles and still running great ! 1290’s are super reliable too and I’m sure these 901’s will get better and better and are far more agile than a 990 with even better performance . Old 990’s however had not such great gearboxes compared to newer motors with false neutrals and not so slick change , throttle response on Fi versions was dreadful at low speeds and they vibrate a fair bit , to be fair it’s over 20 years design and a little agricultural but sometimes that’s not a bad thing and they have a deservedly loyal following , but even they took several years to evolve and get rid of all the early problems .
Nice vid Sir Chopsy! Do you reckon the suspension upgrade would negatively effect the bikes smoothness on the tarmac ? Or, would it keep hold if it’s sweet street riding ability whilst markedly upping its game of the snotty technical off road stuff? Thanks

Just did the two day bronze course at KTM, Sweet Lamb on the 890 adventure R. What a machine that is Chopsie. Really fancy having a go at Rallying/ Rallymoto now. That would be a great video, particularly as the Adventure scene is exploding currently 👍🏻👍🏻I’m torn between getting a 790/890R or having a go on my 1190R as a cheaper option. Great channel. 👍🏻👍🏻
I test rode the Norden back to back against the tenere 700 before I got my wallet out. There’s a tenere in the my garage now, more fun to ride and make the norden fell like a big soft adv bike. Get the tenere out chops. There’s a adventure day with Yamaha in mid wales
Went opposite, swapped T7 RE for Norden 901. The T7 RE seat was a torture device, the 901 seat is a luxury recliner in comparison. Don’t get me wrong, I liked my T7, but the steering lock isn’t great and although its one of the lightest mid size adventure bikes, it carries a lot of its weight high up and you really feel it, especially if you have to pick it up, 901 is complete opposite. The T7 Raid is interesting, but it’s nolonger value for money at £11,800, compared to the £10,600 Aprilla 660 Tuareg.
@@windinthewillows6248 absolutely I agree the level of comfort is a lot better on the 901. But only paid £9350 for the tenere and it’s gonna be used primarily for lanes and off roading where it’s gonna get beating up. Last time we were almost at the sending Christmas cards level of our relationship lol,
Have you ever ridden a 990 adventure mate? would be curious to hear how they compare. Great review, I'm so tempted to swap but think I'll wait a couple years for the price to drop.
Awesome to hear it is not just an "890 in a frock", is something that annoys me about the KTM/Husqvarna/Gas Gas machines, so to hear it isn't just a white 890 is interesting. I wonder what the Gas Gas version will be like? :D I think the lanes with just a car in a red circle are ok for bikes unless there is a TRO on them.
Hello, new to the channel and I have enjoyed many of your videos. Felt the need to comment on this one....that point in the video where your sitting at the end of the gravel road/lane looking for the right setting or mode just makes me angry. I'm shouting just ride the bloody bike and bollocks to all this computer BS. Yes I agree it can be great but this just seam's to be too much and gone too far. Put me on a 90's 2 stroke any day. Rant over haha thanks for the videos Chopsy
I can remember the Husqvarna back in the mid 1970s, impressive motocyes then , not 100% sold on its overall looks lots that I do like, just wondering what will it be like for reliability long term , , KTM still a bit suspect when I look at KTM reviews 🤔 ,
Doesn't look good for reliability judging from the one Big Rock Moto has (see his Instagram). He'll upload a review of the various reliability issues he's had in only a few months of ownership on RUclips soon I believe.
Nice review Choppsy - you don't mention buffetting in your list of gripes (or in response to questions about touring) - did find it okay? Loads of moans about this on the web, almost enough to put me off even getting a test ride 😯
Yeah that Norden is a handsome pup. However T7 is my choice but they keep raising the dogged price everytime I make a decision to come out of pocket. That puts me off. For off road I do prefer the rugged and basic Yammie T7 though.
Could you tour on one of these chopsy? I’m thinking about adding a adventure bike to my collection. I’m doing Ireland next month on my panigale and can’t help thinking I’m going to be a cripple when I come back!! 🤣
What I hope they'll do is a "supermoto" version of the 901. 17" front and rear wheels would be awesome, but even a 19"-17" combination would be ok since I don't ride off-road at all.

The owner's manual will usually offer suspension settings for "sport", normal and "comfort".

Awesome to hear it is not just an "890 in a frock", is something that annoys me about the KTM/Husqvarna/Gas Gas machines, so to hear it isn't just a white 890 is interesting. I wonder what the Gas Gas version will be like? :D
I think the lanes with just a car in a red circle are ok for bikes unless there is a TRO on them.
Hi Pete, OK yes wasn't sure about the car access signs. Thought that was no vehicles at all 👍
@@LambChopRides aye, if it is just a car, we are ok on bikes, if car with a motorcycle jumping it, then we can't play 🙂
Haha thanks Adam, yes you don't have to mess with the modes but just wanted to see how the offroad mode works. 👍
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Liking the drone work Chopsy! Got a DJI Mini 2? 👍
Yes mini 2, it's really good for such a tiny drone
Soon as you start the motorcycle the lights are all on and just hit the button to turn them off if you wish
Could you tour on one of these chopsy? I’m thinking about adding a adventure bike to my collection. I’m doing Ireland next month on my panigale and can’t help thinking I’m going to be a cripple when I come back!! 🤣
yes absolutely Dave! very comfortable
What I hope they'll do is a "supermoto" version of the 901.
17" front and rear wheels would be awesome, but even a 19"-17" combination would be ok since I don't ride off-road at all.
Absolutely agree! 👍
That would make way more sense 😉😉😉
Nice job thanks alot.
I don’t remember Husky calling them ball bag tanks!😂
I'm sure I read that in the press material... 😆
@@LambChopRides Saddle bags, SADDLE Chops!😁
Fuel tank.....ball-bag design! PML Choppsy!
suspension is not what i expected nor is the cable clutch but both are fixable
Like it, but the seat's a bit high for me. 😒 I agree that the middle weight adventure bikes are the sweet spot.
Yes it's quite tall actually David
@@LambChopRides Actually there is a 22mm lowering kit which would put it within the bounds of possible.
Lamb please share who is the artist of the song in your intro?? I know I should know, but I can't remember...
at the toads crossing you can go in there on a bike not in a car. nice review but its a still a KTM under all that
Cocking, ball bag, amazeballs, in a frock. Great review.
Haha thanks buddy 😄 👍
KTM still hasn't fixed the exhaust melting the rear shock issue on this bike, same issue the 890 had.
👍👍👌👌 nice bike but the price tag lol
Which one chops 901 or ktm 890 not the r version ? Cheers
Why did the TFT “flash” green (21:36 minutes in the video) when you opened it up?
Rgds
Peter
It's the top of the rev limiter, whole screen flashes to tell you to change gear!
