    just rolled over a year on my Norden. rode a GS for over a decade...thought that was the best bike ever. Then I got the Norden. Love it. miss a center stand, but that's about it. Love this bike. Can commute on the Norden, urban ride, and chew pavement for hours. Then, we hit the dirt...she's a little wide, but God Damn does this thing love playing the dirt. that power, the low center of gravity...pure bliss. As far as problems, I had the weird cold start issue until about 5K Kms, then vanished. I also noticed that is drank some oil for the first 5K Km as well, but that has slowed. I don't miss my GS...this Norden is great. Just a great bike with very little compromises!

    I have put 6,500 miles on mine in the past 6 months. Including rough single track. The Norden is my daily driver and I have grown to trust it a lot coming from all Japanese dual sports previously. They are so much fun on and off road too! Hands down my favorite bike ever.

    • @OrthodoxTrooper
      @OrthodoxTrooper Год назад

      how much they gave you to write that?

      @@OrthodoxTrooper Unfortunately, nothing. But I get it. I was a KTM/Husky hater too. All my previous bikes were Japanese dual sports and my buddies had started drinking the Orange Koolade while I stuck to bikes like the WR250R, DRZ400E etc. After dumping $10k into a 2022 CRF300L Rally with CBR300R cams, tune, intake, exhaust, Rally Raid Level II suspension, better seat, etc it still left much to be desired on longer trips. After putting 10k miles on it in a year and I decided to get an 2022/2023 Africa Twin to better suit my needs.
      Unfortunately Honda didnt want to sell me one. I called 10 different dealerships over a 2 month period, and finally found one that claimed to have 3 on the showroom floor. Before I left that morning I called again to verify they were available and I was pre-approved for an ATAS with just about any accessory I wanted. I rode 3 hours one way to the dealership. Walked in, and there was no Africa Twins in sight. A sales person never greeted or spoke to me while I was there for 15 minutes. Walked up to the front desk and told them I was there to buy an Africa Twin. A sales person said, "Oh yeah those bikes are still in crates but they are sold already."
      Im sure you can image that was really frustrating so I left and walked over to the KTM dealership next door.
      They had a 2023 KTM 890 Adventure R and a Tenere 700 on the shoroom next to each other. Test rode both and found the KTM to be much easier to maneuver at slow speeds like coming to a stop without putting my feet down and taking off again. It had gobs of power and made the Tenere feel anemic. I just couldnt get over how ugly the KTM was, but I was hooked after riding one. Decided to go home and think it over and after doing some research I landed on the Norden 901. I liked that it had a wide and more comfortable seat than the KTM. Also appreciated Cruise and Quickshifter not being extra on top of the purchase price. To top it off it doesnt look like a alien bug screaming for attention.
      I ride year round here and Texas and havent looked back on my purchase. The one I can neg about it is the hot exhaust, but I replaced the cat with a high flow cat thats smaller and heat was greatly reduced.

      @@marcochavanne I totaly understand where you coming from.. crf 300 is too weak and small but good for some use cases like technical off road on a long distances or for someone who is not strong enough to handle a bigger bike.. I don't fancy japanese motorcycles my self I muvh prefer European brands for the looks and features but there is one big concern for someone who wants to travel the world and that is reliability and ktm has really bad reputation. My dream bike would be Norden expedition made by Yamaha or Honda, but they don't make such fun bikes. Honda dealers are such a crap here where I live in Europe as well, I wanted to test AF but they dont have it and they don't care for costumers.. you can only order and wait for months. Ducati is my favorite brand now tbh

    • @marcochavanne
      @marcochavanne Год назад +1

      @@OrthodoxTrooper I bet your Duc is a hoot. Everyone that has one seems to love them.
      Yeah I eventually felt the bike had been pushed to its limits and was holding me back. Im also a big guy at 6'3" and 260lbs so it was struggling to hold 75-80mph.
      As far as known issues on the Norden there are loose coolant clamps from the factory that can weep once they warm up, but snugging them up seems to fix that. There was a bad batch of rear shocks so several brand new ones had leaks on the showroom floors but that hasnt seemed to happen yet and they were all replaced. KTM did earn a bad reputation for a while so I can understand the apprehension about an around the world trip on one, but I am not sure if a Ducati would be my first pic for that either lol
      I do know some 790 KTMs were eating cams around 14,000 miles due too poorly tempered metallurgy but havent heard of any failures on the Nordens yet with their 890/901 engine.
      I rode close to 1,000 miles in a day to Colorado, beat on it on Engineers Pass and other mountain trails, camped solo off of the bike for a week, then rode it 1,000 miles back home to Texas with no issues.... well other than a screw I picked up in a tire 500 miles from home. But as far as long term reliability the proof wont exist for a few years until we see some with 50k miles.
      As long as we are smiling thats all that matters.
      Happy trails

      Have basically the same story. Have crf300L and crf450RL but wanted a bigger bike so added the Norden 901 Expedition. Got it the last day of March and have put 8,500 miles on mine riding around the mountains of NC 🇺🇸. Couldn’t love it more. Was worried about the horror stories I’d heard about the KTM family of bikes but have had zero issues.

    An excellent, very honest and comprehensive review Runa . The bike suits you well .I have never worried about the touring screen view in your videos,,or seen it as an issue . For me personally, it is your comfort that comes first anyway.

      Like Grhmnz says The windshield doesn’t bother me either. Your videos are so much more than what you see just in front of the bike. Your comfort is more important.
      But if you’re interested in to ride a season with the lower windshield you’re comparison between them both in a longer perspective also can be interesting for a lot of riders 🤔 So there can be pros and cons with both choice. 😊

      @@OffSheGoesADV I suggest you get the Puig clip on visor to use with the shorter windscreen. The standard screen sent the air directly into my faceplate and peak/visor causing terrible head vibration, but with the extra Puig it is going up above my helmet. As far as the camera, I don't have an issue with the touring screen in your videos, but the Puig is a bit flatter than the top edge of the touring screen so it could be more transparent for the camera. It certainly is less distorted to look through than the curving plastic parts of windscreens. Also you can adjust the angle of the edge to direct the air, which is nice when it's hot. I use the medium size (25cm x 10cm).

    Great review of a very capable adventure middle weight. I am considering the 901 after 3 years on a V85TT. It has been a joy on the back roads and have 30k on the clock ridding it to AK for a month from Northern California but a little more pep and suspension sounds nice. The V85 is a very cool adventure travel but the factory support sucks and it wont pop a wheelie.

    Excellent review. I got the Expedition model and I love how versatile this bike is. You can drive hard off road but then 800 km straight on highway is no problem either. Engine is raw and powerfull. Not as sophisticated as others so it may not sound as reliable but so far it has been. 12000 km in without problems. On the minus side I like the instrument cluster bit too complicated to navigate. If you use this as commuter bike there is one (big) flaw when weather is hot (around +20degC up). Catalytic converter between your legs.. Oh boy it gets hot when you wait the traffic lights to change.. Oh one more thing.. Touring screen. Great on road but if you plan to drive more off road I recommend the lower version. Because when the bike suddenly decides to stop it is very easy to hit your throat to the touring screen and it hurts.

    That was an excellent review Runa, really enjoyed hearing your honest thoughts. I sometimes wondered if you took your wool seat cover inside when you left the bike out in the rain overnight when camping or did you just have to ride with a wet seat ? I had not even noticed the windshield being "in the way" at all in the videos, maybe we bike riders get conditioned to it and just look past it as though it doesn't exist. You might regret the lower height if you replace it, it may direct the wind and rain (and bugs) straight into or slightly under your helmet and cause buffeting and a sore neck, but maybe it will be fine. You honestly don't need to sacrifice your comfort for us, your videos and the camera views are outstanding as they are. 🌞 It's a wonderful thing when you find a bike you really bond with isn't it ! Thanks muchly for sharing all your content and adventures, looking forward to seeing what you get up to in future rides. Cheers. 🤩🤩👍👍 🦘🦘🦘

      Thank you! Glad you liked it 😊 I just leave the sheep skin on at all times. Since its all natural it still contains the lanolin fat, making it quite water repellant so it dryes up really quick in the rain 😊 And I'll have to reconsider going for the lower screen now with all your comments saying it doesnt bother you 😃 Probably gonna try the shorter one with a clip on or something first! Have a great evening! 😊

    Nice review! I have a '22 with about 5K miles and feel the same way about mine. I have owned everything from an XT250 to a KTM 1290SAT and this one is my new favorite. My previous favorite was a KTM 990 ADV that I put 50K miles on and wanted to get back to that. The Norden feels like a super modern version of the old 950-990 and that was a legendary bike way ahead of its time. Husky really did a great job with this one!

    I have about 2,100km on my Husqvarna Expedition. I too find the seating position beneficial overall with riding. The edge at the back of the seat 6:48 is especially helpful when navigating a trail or rut that slopes down. It actually feels like I have a bit more control in those situations. I ride a lot on US Forest Service roads. Most of it is a mix of dirt and gravel, but there are often stretches that still have the old chip seal which is now broken and covered with sharp edged potholes. The 901 Expedition comes with the WP Explor suspension which is amazing. It is perhaps my favorite aspect of the bike. My one dislike is that any warning such as low fuel, maintenance req, or sensor error takes over the screen. I would like to see an option to shrink it down once read.

    Hi Runa. Great review. Nice to see a review that is not just tech etc etc…I have e 10500 km on my Norden after 6 month of riding. I am completely in love with this bike. The only issue i have had is the electronics but that got taken care of by Husqvarna on warranty (ABS box). Hope to see you on the road next year. Hopefully you will be on a Norden.

    Great review. I'm thinking about a replacement for my V-Strom, and you've got me tempted. The Norden checks a lot of boxes in what I need from a bike, and the only real issue for me is that there's not much of a dealer network where I live.
    Did you get much of a chance to compare it with a KTM 890?

    Excelente reseña ! Coincido con tus apreciaciones . Al igual que tú, también tengo una Norden 901 y estoy feliz con esta moto a pesar de haberme bajado de una 1250GS. Me encanta su potencia y su conducción. Es divertida además de un diseño disruptivo que rompe con el estilo de muchas de las motos de aventura.

    I have the base model like yours. On the one hand I really really really like it, the bike is way more capable then I am and can do so much realy good. I'm a newbie for adv and im only 1m78. As an inexperienced adv-rider it feels a bit too high to feel comfortable when stopping sudenly on a sketchy roadprofile with significant dropp offs on the side and that is the other hand. The power is for me more than enough too be an interesting road bike. Sometimes i think about selling it and go back for a 4 in line sportbike and for example a caballero rally but both are not good for comfortable touring many kilometers in a day. The Norden is a really good compromise and gives you lots of fun times

    • @OffSheGoesADV
      @OffSheGoesADV  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you! 😊 The seat started off as an attempt to make the seat of the Tenere more comfortable, and warmer. Now I just really like, just a much for the looks of it 😃 The Norden seat is a lot softer than the T7, so it does not add THAT much for comfort.

    Nice review Runa. No snow in Norway at the end of November, must be in the south? I doubt your Twin Pegs will work with a center stand, they don't on a T7 anyway. This is a very general comment, but I think riders start getting concerned with reliability once the warranty runs out and the bike's longer-term reliability comes into focus. I agree, it 100% is a better set up (from factory), comfortable, tech-loaded bike than a T7 - the but is, what could happen when you are in the middle of no where... it's that ticking time bomb sensation....nothing may happen, or it strands you in the middle of the desert or forest, and where I ride, there aren't any people or cellular coverage for a long, long way. I wanted the Norden or KTM 890...but in the end went with a heavily modified T7 for that piece of mind.

    • @OffSheGoesADV
      @OffSheGoesADV  Год назад +2

      Good point! 😊 I can only speak for myself, but I have enough trust in this machine to take it anywhere. Its minor problems have not been of such character that it leaves you stranded anywhere. Also this is still a relatively new bike to the market so I expect any major issues would be resolved 😊 And yes, I live close to Stavanger on the south west coast of Norway! Snow and ice here now - this video was definitely recorded last minute 😂

    I currently ride a Tiger 900 rally pro, but I was considering a Norden. It has 20k on it, and I am really happy if not for the fact that it has too many parts sticking out that could catch if you drop it offroad. I have at this time paid 2000 euros for replacement parts. All simple mud and sand drops.
    I think a norden, with its streamlined design, has a lot less to catch on to things. What is your experience dropping it?

    Hi Runa, nice and informative video, thank you for sharing your experience about the Norden. I am also a fresh Norden owner. Before the Husky I had a BMW R1200 GS (2005) but I am really happy with the 20-25 kg less weight, the power and the consumption is the same, but I have a lot of useful electronics. I also upgraded to bigger windshield, maybe this is the only thing what was better on the GS. The central stand is a good thing, the wider side stander extension also. The soft lagguage is also in a test periode for me. Greetings from Transylvania. #alparsmotoadventure

    I have a ktm 890 adv R. like every other ktm in the family they had their "first miles" issues as I call them. First 2-3k always something like leaking fork seals and a bit of oil sweating at the cover. But after the first km's they are bulletproof. And the performance and power is just out of this world so wouldn't trade it for those small things
