    I'm really glad you bought this bike because it's at the top of my list for my next bike purchase at least at this particular point in time. I wanted someone similar to me in age and size to give this bike a true workout and not some journalist at a manufacturers sponsored event. Thanks.

    The power parts pre-filter is well worth getting. Works exactly as advertised and you can carry a spare prefilter under the seat on trips, 60 seconds to change. I’ve cleaned the pre-filter four times now and the main filter is still spotless, haven’t had to touch it yet.
    Keep an eye on that rattle. If it ever increases get the cams checked asap however when normal they sound like a bag of spanners so it’s hard to tell.

    I've had mine since May '23 and love it. First thing I did was swap out those factory bags for some Bumot soft panniers and Double take mirrors. Definitely spot on about the wind coming up from the handlebars between the mirrors and the windscreen for me though. The other thing that has bugged me was the heat from the left side radiator that blows right on my knee, but I have since added a small deflector that seems to be working out great for this. Hope you enjoy the bike I sure have so far.

You bought it because you like it and that counts for a lot.You also live in pat of the world you can use it for the purpose it was intended in many parts of the world you can't ride off road and these days some people are so critical of the different make bikes which on the whole are all pretty good going back to the sixties an off road bike would have triumph road bike with a pair of nobley tyres fitted so today we are spoiled by choice and you have chosen well cheers Keith uk

    Hey mate fellow Norden Expedition owner here. The head mechanic at my local dealer has one too with the rottweiler mirrors on the handguards. I test rode it and there is hardly any buffeting compared to mine, I actually think the mirrors cause a lot of it.
    There is also a few good clips on here of guys fitting an aftermarket timing chain tensioner (mostly to the Duke 890, but same engine) that seems to take away the rattle.

    That’s a nice looking bike. Looks heavy and a little like the cfmoto 800mt. Ear plugs will help with the noise I guess and after a bit you’ll not even hear it. Should be great for the longer outback tracks as you’ll be comfy and those lights/spots will be awesome out there.

    Roxette is a gorgeous girl!
    This is the first time I’ve see the Expedition without the factory bags on, I like the looks of the luggage racks. I use the Giant Loop Great Basin and put on Touratech luggage racks because that’s what the 1290 had on it and I kept the hard cases when I traded for the 890. But the Touratech racks are the typical large square racks. Your racks look so much more streamlined.
    Took me time to get used to the engine noise as well. Now I don’t even notice it.
    I’ve still got the cat but threw on a Camel ADV heat shield for the time being.
    Congratulations on a great bike Steve and I look forward to “Wheelies with Roxette” in the future! 😊

    • @BigBikeAdventures
      @BigBikeAdventures  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks mate. I’m not sure how much weight the racks will take, they don’t seem very sturdy. I’ll try the throw over bags first, I prefer the soft panniers so if I need to upgrade the racks I will. I’ll check out the heat shield, thanks for the tip.
      RUclips won’t let me use any of the good Roxette music or covers, so it’s the name only.

  • @ScottSillis
    @ScottSillis 8 месяцев назад

    A lot of the engine noise in both the 701 & 901 are to do with the hydraulic timing chain tensioner, so there are aftermarket spring loaded options that delete the engine oil feed and are self tensioning and prevent the guide slap. Do some research mate you eill be pleasantly surprised.
    I have a Barotec guage fittee to my 701 which reads the oil pressure from that tensioner so unless I get pressure elsewhere and fit that new tensioner I'll be putting up with the rattles too. 👍

    • @BigBikeAdventures

      Easy trackside serviceability is so good on these bikes, if I have ever said anything positive about the KTM’s it’s the placement of stuff we need to check regularly on big trips. Especially when riding mostly off road.
      Yes David, it is big, everyone says that when they see it first for the first time. Some are even saying it’s too big and it won’t fit. But then it’s not called Big Bike Adventures for nothing. 😂😂😂

    Mosko R80L worked well over the factory rack. Clear of any plastics and exhaust, tight to the bike with plenty of places to tie. Rear 3 ties were the only not awesome part attaching to the factory top rack, but worked fine.

    • @BigBikeAdventures
      @BigBikeAdventures  8 месяцев назад

      I did a rough fit of the RL80 this morning and it looks like it will work well, better fully loaded. With the outside rear straps I went to the rack bar in front of the indicator, the centre strap to the rear rack, very snug. 👌👍

      I have the RL80L V4.0. My expedition will arrive in March 24. Do you really think, it is better to keep the factory racks mounted? BTW: I will replace the rear luggage rack by the NiceCNC rack for the expedition. Lots of attachment points and even a possibility to mount the MoskoMoto Gnoblin which I believe is a very useful piece of kit.

    There’s only one Husq dealer near me, and if the service is sub standard, I have a boat anchor. If I bought the equivalent KTM in Australia, I have to put up with sub standard pre delivery and service from Peter Stevens. So I bought a BMW. Two dealers and a bloody good independent near me, 5 year warranty and 3 years roadside assist. And I could take the bike out for a test ride. Why buy another brand?

  • @bens5186

    Rally pegs (bigger and wider is better), bark busters to protect the levers are the only “needs” I think. I installed the rally seat, motoz rallz rubber and outback motortek pannier racks.
    Only thing I am still chasing is a more vertical screen, I want the wind protection but find when riding hard off-road I hit my head on the standard screen, it slopes back too far,

    • @BigBikeAdventures
      @BigBikeAdventures  8 месяцев назад

      I think I’ll change the screen as well, it’s does look like it will be an issue off road.
      I’ll try the soft throw over luggage on the existing racks but if I have to will add the Outback Motortek racks for the soft luggage. The heat from the cat is my first concern to address.

    • @bens5186
      @bens5186 8 месяцев назад

      @@BigBikeAdventures the Puig one looks like it may give a little more clearance as it looks a bit more vertical, hard to tell without a direct side by side comparison. Surprised no one has actually done the comparison. Personally I kept the cigarette lighter plug. I run a direct plugin air compressor with the bike running for pumping up tyres. I considered the usb plug change but the standard socket gives a lot of options.

    I am looking at an adventure bike in the next year or so, and I kept coming back to the Expedition but a couple things have really caused a pause for me.
    1. There are none of these in the US, I've seen one once and no dealers (on the west coast at least) have this bike.
    2. Comparisons always seem to suggest that this bike is somehow less than the sum of its parts. For whatever reason that is usually not backed up by numbers; reviewers seem to prefer the Desert X despite not having a lot of features standard that the Expedition does (center stand, heated grips, crash protection, higher spec suspension, LOWER PRICE). Not to mention the pain in the arse to get to the air filter. Is the Desert X that much better?
    3. Reliability woes. It seems like people either swear by KTM products (lets face it, this is a KTM) or curse them as the worst OEM out there.

    • @BigBikeAdventures
      @BigBikeAdventures  8 месяцев назад

      Hi, it would be unfair of me to compare so soon, especially since I haven't had the bike off road yet. On paper it's a good comparison to the AT, similar power to weight. I can say the lower centre of gravity on the 901 is noticeable straight away. they are both very well behaved on the road, brakes and suspension on the Expedition are better than the AT, depends on which model AT you buy. I'll do a proper comparison after I've had it off road.

      Or design engineers who actually ride and use there concepts in the real world. When Husky launched the Norden all the feedback from consumers was to make the changes that led to the 901 Expedition. Husky listened, so kudos to them.

      This I was a demo bike (hence the dealer decals). I’m happy with the deal. It’s a lot of bang for the buck.

    How do you find the suspension - soft or hard? How much do you weigh? Thanks.

    • @BigBikeAdventures
      @BigBikeAdventures  8 месяцев назад

      I haven’t set the suspension up properly yet, it is quite soft in the front, too soft for the road, but the back feels good.
      I’ll know more when I set it up properly and get it off road. I’m heavier than I should be and will test the spring rate for sure.

    Can the owner do firmware/software updates them selves or does it need to go to dealer for that?
