Great info Ian. Concise, thorough and well presented. I'm loving my 901 so far but only have 250km on it. I do agree about the windshield and a taller one is coming from Husky my dealer assures me :)

I got mine and absolutely love it, is it completely refined, no, but it is better than many more refined bikes in my opinion. It is one of the easy bikes to ride for a adv bike.
You could try to remove the upper screws of the shield, put 1cm rubber discs under the screen and mount it with longer screws. For me it improved buffeting. The wind protection did not improve but the noise.
I did the same thing on my bike, except I used 1” spacers. The air that flows under and behind the windscreen prevents a vacuum behind the wind screen and subsequent buffeting from occurring.
It does definitely. I rode ~1000km with the original windshield and then exchanged it against the one from the Expedition model. It's like balm for the sould now. And only costs ~130€ here in Austria - which is indeed well spent money for this kind of upgrade :)
Got the Norden primarily thanks to your reviews, since i was looking for a nimbler alternative to the GS. Yet, you can't compare it to the refinement of the R1250Gs. The wind protection is a big plus for the GS as well as the engine sound and overall feeling. Electronic suspensiom control is out of this world. The vibrations are more filtered on the GS and overall it feels much more premium than the Norden. Of course, it's almost 10000$ more expensive and a different class, but i regret getting the Norden instead of the GS.

Hi Ian from France. Really interesting review as usual. I'm starting to think of upgrading from my Benelli TRK 502. I've travelled all over Europe and put 50K kms (31K miles) on it. Love it, and it is suprisingly capable, but I've had a few reliability issues and some more power would be nice. My head is saying VStrom 1050, but my heart is saying Norden. I've been left at the side of the road in foreign countries with the Benelli, and reliability is important to me (hence the VStrom idea). I'd like to do a bit of off road, but realistically most of my riding will be twisties, main roads and some all-day motorway rides. For the Norden I'm a bit concerned with potential reliability issues and the windshield. The VStrom is the safe bet, but less exotic. I'd love to hear your thoughts! (By the way, I don't own a car right now, so reliability is pretty important. Am I talking myself into the VStrom?)

5:30 “I will never buy another bike without cruise control.” *Buys a Transalp* :-) I’m currently torn between these two bikes, and would totally do the same as you Ian.
I made 3500km tour this summer and my vstrom 800 makes my right shoulder disable. Cruise control is my first rule any more. I changed my suzuki to husky :)
Been waiting a long time for this bike. Two biggies for me: does it fit my body and are the aerodynamics acceptable. It can be tough to 'fix' a noise bike with a windshield change. Aerodynamic performance is probably the single most system-level feature of a vehicle of any kind. It must be designed from the ground up to be quiet, and this is where I think the GS (I have a '14 R1200GS) really hits a home run. I didn't need anything for my GS to make it quiet which is always the first thing I'm forced to do. I will need to find a test ride of this bike before I buy. I need to feel it at speed on an average day. Does Husky ever do ride days?

Great review as always, if only it was a Japanese bike...In terms of comfort on rough paved roads, how would you rate it compared to say a 2019 standard Africa Twin or a Super Tenere 1200? Thanks!
Can anyone compare the Norden to an earlier (2011) R1200GS? Weird question, but I’m looking to upgrade my 2011 and the power numbers are similar. Can you cruise comfortably at 80 mph on the Norden? Thanks in advance.
Honest reporting of the wind/buffeting issue much appreciated and is one of the reasons to support on Patron. Many older riders like myself have hearing damage /tinnitus ( ringing at all times) from decades of wind noise exposure. Top spec ear plugs only help slow but won't eliminate this permanent nerve damage. Long distance touring reviews like this are rare to advise on wind issues.
I'm 23 years old, and I'm one of the few riders here in Serbia who wears ear plugs. People call them ear tampons. I don't understand that, because you still hear the bike while outside the city, it just filters out the wind noise. Once you wear them, I can't go without them.
@@MilosevBoskoi used to wear ear plugs then i got a Shoei helmet which eliminates lots of bad sounds and I don’t really ride faster than 115 kmh anymore so i am not using ear plugs anymore
Great review and wow, the first American that can almost pronounce Husqvarna correctly, you come closest so far. LOL. Looking to buy the Norden Expedition.
Good video Ian, thank you again. Would you consider making a video for the foreigners willing to do a tour in the USA? I find it hard to find practical information which would allow me to find out e.g where to rent a bike, what places to see at what time of the year, where is safe to travel, sleep in the tent or hotels etc etc. This could be a great advert for your country :)
Ok, good bike overall. But when the Ducati Desert X will arrive in USA (in July, I heard) you'll quickly forget about the Norden as happened with Aprilia Tuareg vs T7. Do you wanna bet?
I've been watching your videos for quite some time and I totally enjoy the pace and "to-the-pointness" of this video. Good length and super content. Kudos for the t-shirt too 🙂
Tested the bike for about 2h with a spoiler. It made it better, but whatever I did the wind noise was still horrible. Without earplugs I cannot ride it for longer than 15 mins above 50kmh/30mph. There WAS a larger "Touring"-Windshield in the EU configuration options, but within about a week it was gone again. Supply chain problems? Like so many other items?! I also have some other minor gripes like, clicking through the menu to control heated grips instead of dedicated buttons on the handle, buttons feel cheap, quickshifter not smooth, etc. #detailsMatter Not great, but I would be willing to live with it because the bike is so much fun, well balanced and looks awesome ... BUT the current windshield totally killed it for me ... I am so disappointed since I was so rooting for the norden. This also makes the Ténéré 700 default windscreen design even more impressive since it provides much better protection and no such horrible wind noise. For now I will probably go with the Tiger Rally Pro 900 (or 1200?) ... very similar package, but the windshield, heated grips, quickshifter, buttons, etc. just work without a fuss ... sure the Tiger is a bit less aggressive, weighs slightly more and does not have the special look ... but these Details really, really matter to me IFF Husky gets this stuff fixed and that quality matters ... I will probably look at it again ...
I’m finally at peace with the buffeting on my 890 R Rally after lots of trial and error. Changed the windshield, removed winglets, Rottweiler mirrors, and added a 15 degree windshield tilt adapter. I also now ride with “electronic” noise cancelling earbuds that remove most of the remaining unpleasant noises against the helmet caused by buffeting. This last part might be controversial to some. I say give it a try if you also want to be at peace with buffeting. Good luck sorting this out. Great video!
Is it possible to remove the windshield entirely? If so, try that and see how that works. I tried pretty much all the windshields available for my V Strom 650, and it was simply terrible. Then I removed the windshield completely and it was FANTASTIC. A bit counter intuitive, but a smaller windshield can often be better than a bigger.
Great review! Im looking at the 2024 Norden 901 expedition right now. Trying to decide between this and a Tiger? Did you change out your mirrors also? 😊
Ktm just cant make wind shields… I had a 1290 sat and ended up Selling it because of the buffeting. And I tried everything… spoiler, aftermarket screen….. Not ok Ktm ( Husqvarna)
With the Norden being built by KTM, what is the reliability? Number one thing on my list if doing long distances away from civilization. And what about the service network? What's the best height and what options are there for lowering?
Oh, oh. The GS is getting nervous. Sounds like the trip was a blast. Are there any air leaks down lower in front that may be exacerbating the wind problem. The answer may not be just increasing the height of the windshield, especially since the Puig spoiler didn't help.... I'm going to look at your BMW F850 video again to check out the wind protection since you said the wind protection on that bike was so good. That bike had those cool-looking lower wind wings that may be helping it's comfort level. Good luck with your search.
A great review with some interesting points. Ref buffeting and the screen, ditch the mirrors and buy the CRG Arrow/Rottweiler mirrors and mounts for your barkbusters, apparently it reduces noise and turbulence to the helmet.
You make informative clips, you tell about, almost everything, but the 50% of the purchase experience is still hanging : the service !!! Maybe I've skipped it. Maybe you've mentioned it ( about this bike ) earlier, but it takes only a FEW words, and can be repeated, because it is very important for so many, who don't take money out of their rear end ( to be polite ).... So, to make your videos 100% - please, always, include the service segment ( as much as you can dig on it ).
Love the content and the time and energy you put into your videos shows. Also love how deep and honest you get into the bikes you test. I am very excited about this bike. I would love if at some point you could compare it to the Africa Twin and the 2022 ATAS DCT you raved about in your last review of it. These are the bikes myself and guessing others may be cross shopping. Keep up the good work!
I have been loving my Norden. I am currently at 3700 miles and it is my daily driver. Best motorcycle i've ever owned. I only have two gripes with this bike and I hope to fix them. Unfortunately they are mechanical issues such as the immobilizer antenna error preventing the bike being started for me fairly frequently. I will have the immobilizer replaced next week under warranty. But my main issue is when I have a passenger of 150+ lb or so, there is a truly awful nails on chalkboard metal on metal sound when I decelerate. I took it to the dealer and they can't find what is causing it. Other than that, this machine is truly a blessing.
@@nuur2825 I have not, I'm now at 9000 miles it still happens but it's way more subtle. I have give up on the sound and just accepted it as part of the bike. Bike runs flawlessly though .
i went from a 690 to the 1090r in 2017 and the jump was huge in weight off road esp , this i think will be a real goldilocks once i get the ergo's just right 4-me
55 mph is 88 km/h. Turn your wind deflector 90 degrees to the windscreen at the highest point possible. It works pretty good. That’s how I run my 790r with the tall screen.
I also ride an 850 GSA Ralleye. I feel that it is an underrated bike. Love everything about it fro on road and off-road performance to looks and comfort.
Try putting some notches in the windshield like other windshields of course without saying make sure you plan well and measure well you only get one chance to cut it helps other bikes with windshields they always have Cuts in them to try to solve that problem of buffering good luck
I saw a similar review re the same bike. Her compliant was the position of the air filter next to the rear tire. Do you have any similar complaints or comments?
it is always a compromise between on road and off road prowess , im digging the 901 so far but cannot wait until someone makes a taller better windshield and heavier springs for it , with that and the other mods and incoming parts i think it could be awesome. you have tested about every bike ive been interested in.. i have an appt on the 20th to do the first svcs at which time they will instal a whole bunch of accessories i bought inc the same pegs , i feel like a total dbag not doing it myself but i work 6 days a week trying to keep my own biz afloat which these days is a chore in this war against small biz climate and get a deal on the labor so ... but i cant wait to see and feel the transformation

It was good meeting you a couple months ago at the WYBDR launch event - Is the 901 just fitted more for your size...The GSA can be a bit big for some...just curious...so far in all the reviews I've seen they hardly mention this as competition to the GS especially based on size - it is a Mid-Sized Adventure bike...thanks and good work as usual!!!

That bike had those cool-looking lower wind wings that may be helping it's comfort level. Good luck with your search.
KTM off road , Norden not so much, like the difference between V-Strom and Versys, it's really that simple.
A great review with some interesting points. Ref buffeting and the screen, ditch the mirrors and buy the CRG Arrow/Rottweiler mirrors and mounts for your barkbusters, apparently it reduces noise and turbulence to the helmet.
i have the Arrow mirrors on my Barkbusters and didn't notice much change but the mirrors are darn near vibration free.
@@bigmikes901adventures which bike do you have them on mike?
@@hovishill2779 I have the Norden 901 and installed Barkbusters and Storm hand guards and then the Arrow mirrors from Rottweiler Performance :)
Dang it! Should I stop “adventurerizing” the V- Storm and trade it in!
@@pedrovazquez9146 not with you! Are you referring to the norden or the mirrors?
You make informative clips, you tell about, almost everything, but the 50% of the purchase experience is still hanging : the service !!!
Maybe I've skipped it. Maybe you've mentioned it ( about this bike ) earlier, but it takes only a FEW words, and can be repeated, because it is very important for so many, who don't take money out of their rear end ( to be polite ).... So, to make your videos 100% - please, always, include the service segment ( as much as you can dig on it ).
Thanks again for another amazing review. If you had to pick one bike for a one bike stable would it be the 890adv r or the norden 901?
Do they also make you pay for options that you paid for when purchasing again like KTM does. That is for me a deal breaker
Givi do a great windscreen for these and it only costs £100 I don't know what that is in USD but it helps keep the wind off you.
Other than that, this machine is truly a blessing.
have you figured out what causes the sound?
@@nuur2825 I have not, I'm now at 9000 miles it still happens but it's way more subtle. I have give up on the sound and just accepted it as part of the bike. Bike runs flawlessly though .
Is it possible to remove the windshield completely? Clean air like a naked bike might be better… genuine question.
Nice video Ian. If the world doesn't end the 901 will replace my 701 in a few years.
lol same here.......potentially. I have a few different bikes I'm eyeing up for the next few years. Until then, 701 goes on.
i went from a 690 to the 1090r in 2017 and the jump was huge in weight off road esp , this i think will be a real goldilocks once i get the ergo's just right 4-me
LOL. My money is on the zombie apocalypse and $20 a gallon gas.
@@oldtimer3824 i wish i could argue against that
@@oldtimer3824 Right. I'm working on mounting a shotgun scabbard to my 701.
55 mph is 88 km/h. Turn your wind deflector 90 degrees to the windscreen at the highest point possible. It works pretty good. That’s how I run my 790r with the tall screen.
I Couldn't find any 901, so i bought 1290 adv s did i made a mistake !!
As good as any of the medium and beyond crossovers, all of them are more thna capable of long distance touring, rediscover of the wheel.
The F850gsa you can ride for hours on end, without any buffeting/ windnoise 😉 The Norden looks good, any issues yet? I enjoy your videos!
I also ride an 850 GSA Ralleye. I feel that it is an underrated bike. Love everything about it fro on road and off-road performance to looks and comfort.
Can't wait to get my bike soon, and thanks to your videos I'm sure I've chosen the right bike. Greetings from Norway (Norden)
Great review as always, this is the bike for me, especially here in Australia. 😊
Try putting some notches in the windshield like other windshields of course without saying make sure you plan well and measure well you only get one chance to cut it helps other bikes with windshields they always have Cuts in them to try to solve that problem of buffering good luck
Eagle screens in Australia make multiple screens for the 901
I saw a similar review re the same bike.
Time is money. It’s more time and cost-effective for me to pay for motorcycle maintenance, I like to spend my limited free time riding not wrenching.
@@oldtimer3824 i am in the same boat , but 20 years ago me would be teasing todays me in a big way
@@oldtimer3824 SO i wound up splurging on Tractive Extreme suspension , shock&fork drop ins , for this bike and holey crap batman this thing is pure magic , it works so darn good i feel like its cheating compared to any other bike ive had or ridden , 13000 miles now of big time smiles and trouble free riding
Had a look at this bike and it looks absolutely stunning!
That range and softer suspension definitely helps for touring. But it’s not quite a pack mule like a GS that you can load forever even with a pillion.
Another awesome, no-holes-barred, in-depth and accurate review Ian. So, its a 9.5/10?
It's an enduro not a Harley stop crying deal with the damn wind all all in all bad-ass bye
The GS is still my choice for long distance
hey hows it compare to suzuki1050?
I’m sure aftermarket company’s are working on replacement screens right now. MRA did a great job with the Honda AT adv sport 1100 screen, same issues and when they brought out the Variotouringscreen, it solved the problem for me.
I'm actually building a seat right now and that insight was great. Nice review, thanks.
Great overview. I cannot wait to hear an update at 10K miles. So far, it seems to be nearly ideal for ADV Touring. - Frank
That is some awesome Info thank you very much.
Reppin' Savagegeese!!!!! Hell yea. Love you both :)
Wind buffering is a deal breaker if it cannot be fixed.
What’s the spoiler you’re using?
Thanks for the info. Any update on a windscreen?
Looking forward to a review on the new Expedition model!
