huh , im sorry man , THE 901 is better off road than the desert x by far because of the lower COG.. i ride alone 99% of the time and live in Adventure/Dual sport paradise in rural NW-USA , motorcycle camping fishing ect regularly and ive fortunate or just financially irresponsible enough to have owned ALOT of dual sport/Adv bikes and this 901 , after more $ in mods than id like to admit to , is the BEST BEST by FAR ive ever ridden , this thing is pure magic for how i use a bike it is like cheating..... i did change out the suspension as well though so now its easily as good off road as an 890"R" which is what id have bought in the first place but my local ktm dealer service department sucks but the husky dealers is awesome so thats why

@@demo3003 dont be , get ahead of the known and documented issues like the airbox for example and be vigilent about maintenance , a higher hp and performance machine will always require more attention , no car guy ever trades in his 140hp Honda Civic for a 500hp Mustang/Corvette/Porsche/whatever and then turns around and complains about higher running cost but us motorcyclists seem to do exactly that for some reason

I considered the Desert X too. But the air box on the X is under the tank, and you have to take the tank off to get to it. The owner’s manual says to take it to the dealership to clean or replace the air filter. WTF! And I’m the same size as you - 6’1” with a 32” mid seam. And that’s why I bought the Norden and love it very much. Great review. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

      same....
While shopping the segment, i kind of wanted to end up with a DesertX, but for the area im in, having to drop the tank to clear the filter is kind of a deal breaker. So Stupid.
So, bought a Norden instead and love it. Just cleared its 600mi/1000km service

Thanks, great vid. I am about to take delivery of a newie so was curious as to why you sold but it’s quite clear that you are suffering from ‘sellers remorse’ which makes me feel better about my upcoming purchase! Re the Desert X, after once owning a Tiger 800, I swore that I would never again own a bike that required a major dismantle just to clean the air filter.

Yeah the more I think about the desert X I really like riding it but I cbf with the Ducati maintenance

So how tall are the risers and which manufacturer, where did you buy the risers? Next summer I am planning to get the Norden, slightly used just like yours. Definitely mid pipe and Wings exhaust, risers maybe a better rear shock and air filter. But that’s about all it needs in my opinion 😊

Did you have to do any mods (O2 sensor, fuel mapping, etc) when you removed your catalytic converter? Thanks.

I was planning on getting it remapped but couldn’t yet because it was still too new. Runs great though. No sensors involved

@@captain_midlife New KTM engines are very high performance engines. They tend to run lean from manufacture to make them comply with new emissions regulations. Many people think you can take exhaust out as the engine is 4 stroke and has valves.... This is WRONG. The back pressure from exhaust and catalytic converter is taken to consideration when ECU is mapped. Now you take catalytic out your back pressure changes and suddenly your engine runs even leaner..... But running lean will raise combustion temps.... and might burn exhaust valves....

Yeah I know about tuning and the KTM, I took it to a tuner here in Auckland to find out about getting it done they said it would be totally fine because the new bikes adjust automatically to keep them in range.
