This saved me galore...thanks man. I would just buy two new connectors male and female with the same gauge wire and redo them leaving tje original harness as is. Put some dielectric grease on those connectors as its def heat that ate them up.
Thanks! I’m glad this was able to help you🙏🏼 out! I have thought about doing that I’m just waiting to see if the connectors will give me an issue again then I will change the connectors but since this video I haven’t had a problem thank goodness hahah
@@ThatBasicTesla they will at some point as they have been compromised already...I would humbly suggest now as you don't wanna be on the run and they cut on you or around a corner enjoying the powerband
Seems to be a common issue with these bikes what I did to avoid it from happening again was I made sure all the wires were tight and a put this spray on the wires to keep them from ever making a short and causing other issues
Thanks for the info! Would you know which color wire is for the gauge cluster? Mines would flicker but now it doesn't turn on at all only the blinker lights up when i use it.
Hey man! I Belive It’s the red yellow or Tan also what you can check for it when you plug the connectors make sure that the prongs dont pop out of the back from the connectors. What you can also do is disconnect the connectors and with a voltmeter check each prong to see what you’re getting a reading
Thanks for the reply! My connector looks better Condition than yours and mines still won't work. I tried re wiring the burnt wire (red/yellow) and using electric cleaner but still no luck.
How did you end up fixing that connector? Mine has the red and yellow on both sides broke off and there are 2 black wires on both sides that came out as well.
For my situation I cleaned up the wire connections and for the ones coming out I just heated up the plastic and squeezed it together my (black wire) but for your situation with the red and yellow wires that broke off I would just splice them and add a new female wire crimp and stick them back in and definitely throw some QD electronic cleaner
Mine did the exact same thing in that identical location. FYI - notice how that connector is not waterproof. WTF. On the same harness there's two other connectors that are the sealed type. Why in the fck would Yamaha leave a unsealed connector that gets exposed to water - and for the headlights. Damn. I decided to just change out the whole 11-pin connector both sides to a fully waterproof Deutsch connector. Not hard at all with the right crimpers. Now it shouldn't fail again.
I agree Yamaha did mess up on this lol, do you have the part number for the specific connector that you used? I want to change my connectors but unsure which to get
Hey man idk if you still reply here but did you have any problems with the battery charging when the headlights stopped working? Speedo works I see a burnt pin like you had. I’ve replaced the reg, and stator and I have good voltage out of rectifier but it’s not making it to battery. Bad ground maybe? Thanks for helping me find the connecter!
Glad I could help man🙌🏼 but no battery never had an issue when this happened could be that I have different pins burnt out. But what could suggest is check that you have the correct battery specifications check for any loose or broken wires within the circuit and follow the charging system and see if there is anything abnormal. Do you have anything else hooked up to the battery?
Turn your ignition on and kinda follow your wiring move it around aswell see if maybe it got spliced somewhere/burnt whats your Instagram I have my fairings off right now I can show you some other stuff that can cause the issue
@@ThatBasicTesla i finally had time to remove all the fairings, found the same issue as you on your video, just cleaned and the headlights came back on thank you.

I have a 2006 R1 and I'm having the exact problem. How did you clean the plug?
I used some electrical cleaner and with a tool pick I rubbed off as much of the burn and fixed the pins and haven’t had any issues since
Did the blinkers work still when the cluster wasn’t working?
@@SeanTracey-wo4nl no sir! Not until I was able to get the cluster back on the blinkers started to work again
