What is Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC):
Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a condition that can cause three types of abnormal brain structures called tubers:
    Cortical tubers
These benign lesions are the most common type of tuber and are named after the disease. They usually form on the brain's outer layer, but can also appear in deeper areas. Cortical tubers can vary in size and location, and are present in 82-100% of TSC patients. The abnormal cells in cortical tubers can lead to seizures.
    Subependymal nodules (SEN)
These small, benign collections of cells form in the walls of the brain's ventricles, which contain cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
    Subependymal giant-cell astrocytomas (SEGA)
These benign brain tumors develop from SEN and can block the flow of CSF, causing increased brain pressure and fluid buildup. This buildup can lead to headaches and blurred vision.
