Indeed. I feel just _wonderful_ violently tearing worthless, pathetic monsters with my glowing blue sword of DOOM and my many guns that shoot purple energy bolts/beams of DOOM.
it was really a beautiful experience. the game, the music, all of it. in the future, if ive run out of bed time story to tell, i will tell my kids, a tale of a brave hyper light drifter.
+John Baran The more I listen to that piano, and the more I think about it in the context of the stunning game world, the more it reminds me of something out of a Studio Ghibli film. Perhaps Disasterpeace and Heart Machine found a little inspiration a la Castle in the Sky?
I'm really exited to play this on PS4. I'm almost tempted to drop 1k on a PC to play it. If the game is anywhere near as beautiful as the OST, I think I'll remember this gaming experience for a long time.
I have yet to play the game. But it reminds me of something you'd hear in old French sci-fi like Fantastic Planet or Gandahar. Also reminds me of the music they played in the documentary Jodorowsky's Dune.
Anyone have any solid ideas as to why this civilization would program a self-destruct mechanism into their design plans? Also, do you think the Dog character is an actual entity or just a hallucination?
+Aaron Archer ====[SPOILERS]===== Some people translated the tablets that you find, the general gist is that the dog is a representation of the central AI imprinting itself in the drifters minds directing all of them to purge the corruption in the system and reset everything. Originally the precursor race (probably the drifters) whose lab you explore in the south found a way to become immortal but then human nature kicked in and rogue elements tried to weaponize it. The end result was a huge war and all drifters poisoned with corruption that slowly kills them. The corruption is the final boss and the thing thats fucking with you the whole game, and on a meta note the game is meant to represent the main devs slowly losing battle against terminal heart disease so I wouldn't expect a sequel unless he recovers.
+Tim Shepherd ====SPOILERS==== However theres a little load screen thing that...well, theres definitely no sequel. I simply hope that they put more content in the game. As for the backstory and history and stuff, theres been a lot of talk about the stuff, but really, even with the tablets, a lot of the stuff is up to your own interpretation. Theres even one solid theory that the Drifter caused the apocalypse to begin with, while another theorizes that Judgement was formed and took power away from the dog (who was already like a god), and that the dog selected warriors (That being the Drifter, Pink/Guardian, and the bison in the arena) to take down the Corruption, however through that same method Judgement was now able to reach them. I'd love to go further, but really you should go read the stuff for yourself. its damn cool.
+Jeff Starkey i'm must going out on a limb here, but there's a good chance that this was just composed as a cluster chord based on sound. It's not functional so why overthink it?
+Monk Volcano To me it's the most memorable part of the soundtrack. There are 4 or 5 notes played at the same time, so I don't see how it's not a functional chord. I was curious what the notes are because I haven't heard that chord before. It was fun to try to figure it out, idk haha.
+jeff starkey hey there.. I was actually thinking about my comment before I even realized that you had responded, and I came here to add more to it because I realize that it might have come off as a little harsh.. Not sure how you interpreted me saying that it's not a functional chord, i didn't mean that it's not functional in the music.. what I meant was it's not functioning in the traditional sense, meaning that it doesn't have some role in leading back to the one chord. That is typically what that word means in this context. Also. I totally understand why you would want to understand this chord. It sounds really cool. I'm not sure what your knowledge leve of music theory is, but this chord is not really anything to crazy. I haven't sat down and figured out the notes, but from listening I can tell that It's basically a bVI chord with scale degree 2 and 5 added. If you want to learn about this sound, you should study "modal mixture." the bVI chord is VERY common when going for a kind of exotic sound like this. Scale degree 2 and 5 being added isn't something I would look at from a chord perspective. That might sound a bit confusing, but to me it has more to do with the key of the music than it does the chord.. if the makes any sense. They sound kind of like suspensions. Some people might say that they hear this more as an augmented triad based on scale degree 5 with added notes. Since it's not really functional, you can see it from different perspectives. That's why I was saying don't overthink it. But after I thought about it, I realized that if I had no idea what I was hearing, i would want some kind of explanation too. in closing, what's more important than "what type of chord it is" is what role it plays in relation to the tonal center (tonic). I hope this helps.
+Cherry Bomb Studios The game has nothing to do with mankind, you are an alien species in the game. You might even be an Exo like machine (Like in Destiny, but that is unlikely for you because you are somehow ill) However I think the Drifter who saves you at the beginning is an Exo.
Like listening to a story without words, a wonderful experience.

+Gothmog, King of The Balrogs Technically we do that in most action games.
We destroy things :P
OneShallStandOneShallFall Yeah, but we don't have blue light sabers of luls and guns that shoot purple stuff.
Gothmog, King of The Balrogs It's the fabulous way of destroying worlds he he he
it was really a beautiful experience. the game, the music, all of it. in the future, if ive run out of bed time story to tell, i will tell my kids, a tale of a brave hyper light drifter.
good job
Even the freaking music for this game is amazing, holy shit
the instant the music kicked up lighting flashed outside my window and scared the shit out of me
I can't get enough of the piano part that starts roughly 1145 into intro/end, just hauntingly beautiful, cheers!
+John Baran Single track's called The Lamb.
+Rakshael, the whole thing or is that piano piece from another piece of music called the lamb? thanks
Look up The Lamb by Disasterpeace, easier for you to just hear it than for me to describe.
+John Baran The more I listen to that piano, and the more I think about it in the context of the stunning game world, the more it reminds me of something out of a Studio Ghibli film.
Perhaps Disasterpeace and Heart Machine found a little inspiration a la Castle in the Sky?
a la Nausicaa Valley of the Wind?
Oh my god the boss theme. That's like some cry of fear shit.
The ending song is beauuutiful
My favorite song at 6:18!

+Siaynoq8 Haha, this might be why it's so amazing
The end music is my favorite.

Amazing. Trying to figure out that chord at 1:30
+Jeff Starkey It may be easier if you listen to 3:04 first.
Thanks Mot, I think I have it! Bb Aug5th #9
The notes: Bb D F# C#

3:34
And 11:40
+ Facebook god gunboats and then you see the massive 4 eyed robots and a brave Light Drifter who cuts them to pieces.

He's human, considering he has the same ailment as The Drifter/The Magician. Apparently, our Drifter is an organic, artificial race.
So humans do exist in the Hyper Light Drifter universe.. but they have died out?
