This totally cracked me up! I watched the movie Ziegfeld Follies and loved this hilarious skit from Red. As kids we always watched his show & my dad loved him too. This bit took me back to how funny and entertaining he was - everyone loved him. So many good laughs thanks to him. This bit is a gem! Classic!
I had never seen Red perform this bit before. I had heard of it but never seen it. Around 2007, I saw Tom Mullica in person and this was one of his encores. I was laughing so hard, I was crying. Love this bit.
My parents recorded the Ziegfeld Follies on VHS when I was little. This was easily my favorite skit. It was only much later that I realized that my dad was only seven years old when it was released. It just goes to show how timeless and transcendent some kinds of humor are. This was a nice SMOOOOOTH skit. Thanks for all the laughs, Red, and rest in peace. 😎👍
Me too. I wish I could find it. I laughed so hard I fell out of my chair. He did it on his show once and it's an absolute scream! ruclips.net/video/o4mgHNX9eUg/видео.html
@@ashleyr6809 I always assumed it was Algie, like the name that Pink Floyd gave to their inflatable flying pig from the Animals concert tours in the late 70s. 🐷?
I'd love to find a clip of the night when one of his props people pulled a prank on Red, and put gin in the bottle instead of water. First drink he took, he said, with a grin on his face, "OOOH! Somebody pull the real stuff in here!" :)
I first saw this routine at some St. Louis movie theater, possibly the huge downtown Fox Theater or maybe the small, neighborhood Roxy Theater. It was before the days of television and the audience provided the laughs that are sadly missing from the youtube version..
Yep, for all the bad-mouthing "laugh tracks" on TV comedy shows have gotten, the whole reason for them was to recreate the actual studio audience reactions which early TV shows were filmed before. And filming before a "live television audience" was itself an extension of radio shows broadcast before live audiences. Which were an extension of vaudeville theaters.

I first saw this routine on "People's Command Performances" back in the 70s. It was one of the funniest routines I'd ever seen, and it still is.

I like Red's reading of the poem "Algy and the Bear"!

I saw this when I was 12 years old! 35+ years and it still makes me loose it!! Back when comedians were funny without profanity.
Wow this guys comedy is absolutely timeless
The sound and face he makes at 3:11 gets me EVERY TIME!
4:14 is what I came to find.

This bit/ gag was the bit he did for his MGM screen test, directed by Micky Rooney. It still makes me laugh! Enjoy it! 😃!
Best part in the movie!

Get the college size. One bottle, you're in a class by yourself.
Red Skelton’s comedy was ‘silly!’ If you like that kind of thing & my parents did....we watched it every week. 🥴
red skelton was great
Me encanta lo de las ligas...q no las volvera a ver😄😆😜
There'll never be another like him! SMOOTH
Reminds of that Seinfeld episode when Newman downed a shot of honey mustard after consuming the “vile weed” 😂
A variation of his famous "Guzzler's Gin" routine.
There go my nails
😆😂😃😲😉¡¡GREETINGS!!
I'm going to have to stay away from sharp objects.
This was way before Fernando Esteso's "Cognac La Parra", Eduardo Manzano's "Brandy Uviñas", and others.
SMOOOOOTH!
Smooth
wouldn't the college size BE the jumbo elephant size?

This one was little different from the black and white version.
Lucille Ball did a variation of that scene on her show.
Luis Rivera that was the influence
I know.

Funny, but IMO it was nowhere near as good as when he did this routine on the Ed Sullivan Show.
this version seems forced for some reason
