Harvey later admitted that Tim was so funny in this sketch that he actually peed himself from laughing so hard. Tim was one of the funniest men to ever live.

Harvey used to say that Tim was merciless! Who else could make a straight man out of Don Knotts?
No matter how many times you'd seen him, no matter how well you knew he was gonna go off-script, no matter how you prepared you were, when Tim was let loose he destroyed the cast, the audience, and sometimes even himself. He was arguably the funniest man who ever lived and reveled in his art. He will be sorely missed, there is nothing like him in today's desert of profanity, indecency and pornography. RIP Tim, we will always love you!

Easily one of the best skits ever to be aired on television. I love when the fly starts buzzing. You see Harvey recognize what’s going to happen and when Tim smacks it with his numbed hand, he gives just a little nod, like “I knew that was coming!” 😅

I know your comments are 2 years old but GOD BLESS YOU for commenting on something I think about on a regular basis. Any comic today who has a clean act and does well has to be talented. Unfortunately, alot of people think cursing is funny. Sometimes it is If it's done in taste, depending on the words. There is a line I won't tolerate.
I am not a angel myself, I just try to keep a moral compass.

Lucky you! I’ve always found live comedy performances even funnier in person. To name a few, I’ve seen Red Skelton, Victor Borge, Gallagher, and Bill Cosby (long before his fall from grace) and they were all much funnier in person.

Wow. That's amazing. I'm 31 so I can only imagine what it was like being there in the moment. But this makes me laugh out loud and smile each time I watch it.
The way Carol ran this show was sheer genius. She once said the show was so successful because she hired the best talent, and then got out of their way and let them do what they do. She had no ego in the show. As funny as she was, she didn't need to be the one to get the laughs.
Everyone on Carol's show was absolutely perfect casting!

@@sirrobin4394 I forgot where I read it (or saw it) but the Seinfeld folks said they had difficulty writing for Julia/Elaine early on, for they weren't sure how to write comedy from a female perspective or something like that? But I tell folks that don't watch the show all years are funny but around the end of season 3 on, it was pure genius. I didn't watch it until reruns, same for Big Bang Theory, funny but not on Seinfeld's level.

Agreed. All the old comedians were great, and they're all gone now. They had a talent for clean comedy. Good comedy is extremely rare these days. For most "comedians" (and I use the word loosely) today, it's been a mad rush to the bottom of the gutter. But then today's younger crowd doesn't know that there was anything better.

One of my favorite parts is when the fly lands on the book. Harvey is already in stitches, and knows what Tim is about to do. You can see him just waiting for him to flop his hand over, and as soon as he does, you can see Harvey gently nod with approval of Tim's perfect timing. Such a lovely moment between two legendary comedic pals!

Korman lost it so many times during skits. It is a totally-faked shtick of his. During rehearsal of the skit, couldn't he figure out a way to control himself?
@@lenewyorkais My guess is that Tim ad-libbed a lot of his lines and caught Harvey off guard. They probably practiced the skit minus the parts that Tim added, which is why Korman lost it the way he did.
These two bring back warm memories. As a child I'd watch the Carol Burnett with my parents and we'd laugh so hard. They are gone now too. God bless the days back then.

Tim was one of the best physical comedians of all time. In addition to what others have said here, he and Harvey had a running $50 bet that he could get through a sketch without Tim's antics causing him to break character. Harvey admits to never collecting on that bet.

This show was clean and really funny. A good part of the show was watching them try so hard not to laugh at Tim Conway. The elephant stories were so funny. Even Tim lost it.

I met Tim Conway in the 1990’s and he was incredibly charming and naturally funny. Of all the actors I met that evening, he was the only one who made me nervous! 😂 I felt like I had two left feet!

@Salvatore Briguglio harvery, Conway, and carol has said it many times in numerous interviews over the years. before hurling accusations. Try doing a small bit of research your self... It was common knowledge at the time. not too hard to find was stated in interviews on Dinna, merv griffin and a doc on the screen actor guild etc.
This makes me cry EVERY time I watch it. Hands down, the BEST comedy skit ever written and performed (by the best). Live studio audience was the best.

@@JRotten I brought my brother and some friends to see their act back in 2004. I don't think I laughed harder at anything in my life. All the great bits were there: the old man behind the airport counter, Dorf the golfer and the dentist as the encore. None of us could breath.

This is still funny after having seen it dozens of time. Tim's genius was finding that loose comedy thread, then tugging on it relentlessly. The ultimate compliment is the ability to make other comics laugh. Breaking Harvey had to be the biggest for Tim.

I remember watching this as a kid in middle school. Fell off the coach laughing so hard gasping for air. Later, my best friend becomes a dentist. This is also a lifelong favourite skit of his. Still a riot to this day.

The bad thing about Tim Conway is that I laugh so hard that I cry. I can't see or hear the rest of the sketch because I'm laughing so hard!

I went to the dentist the day after I saw this for the first time. The aide had seen it too, and we laughed over it while waiting for the dentist to come for an exam.
I was shown the song from little shops of horrors.
I wish we still had television shows like this.

@@phishfearme2 Who is "they"? There is a difference between a laugh track and a live audience. The majority of today's "comedies" have to use a laugh track because they aren't funny. Don't be so cynical.

It doesn’t matter how many times I see this. I laugh to tears every time.

Carol was great. And had a good eye for talent. Right, she never let her talent go to her head. So natural, pretty, super talented and much more. She’s awesome.
Tim swore to God he made Harvey wet his pants during this scene, and I believe him. One of the greatest physical comedy master of all time!
Harvey Korman's son, Christopher, said in a Jan. 2021 interview that Conway started the legend and got a ton of laughs about it but that it didn't actually happen. Who knows?
