Who’s watched this over and over?
I think I LOL at this 1 or 2 times a month....what a great clean show.
Mee
I saw it originally when it was on tv, still funny all these years later. No cursing, no half naked women, just a wholesome show that the family could watch together.
I sure have..love it!
And Still Laughing!
Tim Conway ad-libbed the whole story. He was brilliant.
"SNORT!!"
Eunice, "Go on Mama."
Mama, "You sure that little a-hole's through?"
BEST REPLY EVER!
😂
She said arsehole, not a-hole. Why couldn't you quote it correctly?
@kingy002. That was perfect timing.
I loved the way Vicki Lawrence (mostly) stayed in character while the others fell apart. When Dick Van Dyke got back up he looked like he was trying not to pee in his pants. 😂
@@redcybra Oh yeah
Tim Conways patience and timing is something that can’t be taught. You either have this as a comedian or not. He was a genius. He just waited and waited to deliver each hilarious line after line.
He would torture the others he was that good 😂
Right he doesn’t rush to his payoff. Lol
But Vickie nailed him this time! 😂😂😂
@@mrs.spicer Yes... timing and delivery is very key.
It absolutely can be taught/learned.
Tim knew when he had them. He'd pause for effect and watched them try to settle down, then he'd hit them with the next line. The man is a legend.
NJA 3 he had them all in the palm of his hand
His timing was always perfect.
Yea, wow, sayin all that stuff about some elephant somewhere with a straight face, LOL
Yeah, but Vicki Lawrence got all of them in the end, including Tim.
NJA 3 you could see it in his eyes. He’s like “Watch me get ‘em”.
Tim Conway and Harvey Korman - the greatest comedy duo of all time. Who is with me on this?
Sorry: Laurel and Hardy have them beat.
Yep! You're right !
They are in the running for sure. I am partial to Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles
one of the best, top 7 at least, i give #1 to Abbott and Costello, nothing against these two who expanded on the art of comedy duo, heaven is a hell of a lot funnier today
Definitely up there. Top five. Rest In Peace, Tim Conway.
It’s 2023 and this is the 4725th time I’ve seen this, and it’s just as funny every single time! 😂😂
The way Tim laughed at Vicki's response is SUPER PRICELESS 🤣I love it🥰
Tim Conway never receiving a Mark Twain Prize for American Humour before his passing is an insult to the very art form for which the Prize was established in the first place.
Nor did any of the celebrity award shows honor him. He must have been a conservative.
Tim Conway, Robin Williams, Betty White, Jim Carrey. The list of oversights goes on . . .
Don't worry, all the people who ever cared about that award will be dead soon enough.
I don't think he needed an award to know he was a comic genius. Award shows are the joke. Just think, they're saying one funny person is funnier than another.
He won a Golden Globe, multiple Emmy's, and plenty of other awards. He had a fun career, made good money, had 6 kids, and lived to 85. I think he did okay.
In the loving memory of Tim Conway (1933 - 2019).
I have told family to play at my FUNeral
Heaven hasn't been the same since he got there. No complaints.
Vicki Lawrence turns out the best line in the history of live television.
This will never be topped.
And Vicki Lawrence held it together better than any of them. An underrated talent!
And dropped the line that broke them all up. Totally deadpan.
Carol told everyone that playing this straight was really important to her so don't break and then proceeds to be the first to break character.
There is a video about how she { Vickie } handled 'this' video.
Of course, nobody says anything about the fact that Tim also had to keep it together. But Vicki was very good.
She delivered the comic coup de grâce.....took everyone completely out of the skit.
More talent on that couch than the entire cable lineup for the last 30 years.
Wow! I wished I'd said that. You are so right. Don't laugh, but once every two months or so, I'll watch the entire 39 episodes of the Jackie Gleason's Honeymooners. God I miss those comedy giants.

That is so true, so true.

One of the greatest ever. I have come back to this clip many times, and return today at news of his death. RIP Tim. He brought great joy to the world. I will likely be looking at many videos of him today in remembrance.
@@Logan_Baron same with me larry. I grew up seeing some of Carols shows and the dorf movies. But this and other funny clips i watch every few months.
CanadianCarlos he will be missed.
A dear friend of mine was rehearsed pianist on Carol’s show. He was in the control booth that night and said he practically did bodily harm from laughing. Golden moments
That must've been a great job !
Tim Conway had a profound way of improvising as he went along with a skit, and as Carol Burnett once related, he rarely stayed on script. He had masterful comedic timing and it was always appreciated when he would catch his cast mates off guard and prompt them to burst out in laughter with the rest of us. He was a rare talent.
Trying to avoid laughing at what he "actually" says is hard enough. I can also imagine thinking and worrying, while already failing to desperately struggle to stay in character, that "this is Tim Conway - what is this man going to put me through by saying next?"
As was Michael Richards on Seinfeld. And he was a perfectionist as well.
There are a couple of times when Carol looks at Tim and to me looks angry. Would have liked to join them after the sketch to see how they dealt with it off camera.
Tim was on Johnny Carson one night and said that he and Harvey Korman had a running bet as to who would crack the other up. Carson asked, "Who came out on top?" Tim said, "Korman put my kids through college."
🤣🤣😂😂😁🤣👍👍
That’s great !
Hahaha!
LOL LOL LOL !! 😂😂😀😀
Tim Conway was MERCILESS. Half the fun of The Carol Burnett Show was watching him make the other actors bust their guts. He's the best sketch comic of ALL TIME.
+Mark Marsh Anytime you see Carol turn away from the camera it was so she could cover up the fact she was laughing, she wanted to keep the show as "live" as possible even though it was taped
jennifersman Just like he did here, Tim Conway would improv to deliberately crack up the other actors. This stuff will be funny FOREVER.
+Mark Marsh I guess they'd do each scene twice. Tim would play it straight on the first run thru, then the second where they were recording, he'd cut loose.
ExtremelyOCD yeah.... he was hilarious but he was a BASTARD to work with ....MERCILESS but PRICELESS!
+Mark Marsh lol
I'm 55 now I still remember seeing this as a kid. It was so funny and remains so to this day.
You can tell Carol is loving it as much as the audience is. She had many chances to start the dialogue again and get on with the sketch, but she just let Tim keep doing his thing, knowing he was spouting out comedy gold. This cast worked so great together! 😂😂😂
Yeah I think that sip from the mug was to take time to see if he was really done yet lol. Great chemistry
Watch closer. She couldn't go on. Trying too hard to keep it together
They sure did!
They had a snippet of what was to come during rehearsal. Just watched an interview with Vicki Lawrence and she was talking about it.
Here is Vicki's explanation about this sketch:
ruclips.net/video/6-h5QrZ1LMs/видео.htmlsi=xFSnDHz_QzJ4Fjm4
Probably the funniest thing about this skit and why they're all losing control is that Tim is making this all up as he goes along.
Wow...after 13 years posted and 32 million views, you finally figured it out.🙄
Next task...tell us all that water is wet.
@@potdragon8091 Well its not obvious as you imply....If you know nothing of the show you probably wouldn't know that was improvised as most of her show was scripted. The years its been posted and its views has no relevance.
His greatest passion was getting the rest of the cast to break character.
Poor Harvey Korman. I say that with love and affection. Just watching him trying to contain himself with Tim Conway --- waiting for that moment when he just couldn’t take it. It must have been a real challenge for Harvey Korman to keep a straight face. I have no doubt Harvey and Tim are hamming it up in Heaven.
I know Harvey is not in this scene - just thinking out loud.
It's 2021 and this is still funnier than anything else on TV.
Its timeless comedy. Its just plain funny to anyone, everyone, anytime.

What makes this soo funny is the fact that your picturing what he's saying.
Vicki was only 28 years old in this sketch. And she just wrecked these other veterans with that one line.
Dick Van Dyke???
The backstory and behind the scenes of this make this incredible. Carol was told before this part of the taping that "there were some changes to the elephant sketch and good luck!" They all start and Vicki was actually mad that Carol didn't say something to stop Tim. Then she leveled all of them with a perfectly timed and improvised line. Legendary forever.
What did she say? (Vicki)... I couldn't quite catch it..after the ahole word?
@@lessen518I think she says something like, “You sure that little ahole’s through?” Tim set the whole thing up but I feel like it was Vicki’s line that cemented that scene’s place in television history. 😉😁

What makes this bit so enjoyable is you can see that Tim Conway had them hostage with the first few lines and never gave in until his fellow cast members were beyond themselves. Vicki's remark at the end was purely icing on the cake. I think the "Dentist" sketch with Tim and Harvey is almost equal to this bit.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?

@@sha11235 agree. I only watched the original cast of SNL but wouldn't have shared with young children. Shows like Carol's were appropriate for all age groups. I don't watch modern shows.
We also grew up watching comedians like Red Skelton. One New Years Eve when my son was around 11 we watched him on HBO & my son loved it! No cussing or vulgarity but hilarious laughter. Carol's show especially with Tim Conway added more humor without cussing, sexual innuendos, violence. We understood the difference between slapstick humor & vulgarity. I am so appreciative of the reruns because there is none worth watching today.
It's a fine day when one of them could make Tim Conway fall to the floor and utterly sob into it with laughter but Vicki did it and did it well. The Elephant story never gets old.

@@historyprof2427 Yes,, very observant LOL, we all realize DVD is there as a guest. Tin Conway went out of his way to crack up the cast on stage, that's what always had me on the edge of the seat. The fact that he in combination with Vicki Lawrence had Dick Van Dyke convulsing on the floor shows the kind of stuff that troupe was made of. Vicki L was getting her legs under her when she was urged before the show to just go for it and show her stuff to the others - and given this golden opportunity she absolutely floored them.

I think it's safe to say Vicki is the only actor ever who was able to make Tim break.
From what I understand, the big reason he lost it was because Vicky would rarely go off-script, so when she dropped that a-bomb, it just levelled everyone.
Conway's timing is masterful and his low-key matter-of-fact delivery just slays. Vicky got the punch line though - even Tim fell out. Comedy at it's best, i was so lucky to have had this show as a kid in the 70s and it's still just as funny!
There is a backstory to this according to Vicky Lawrence. She was forewarned by Carol Burnett that Conway had this story cooked up. Vicky was often the butt of Conway’s shenanigans. While Vicky was in makeup, her makeup artist told her to “Go get him” and she did. The “asshole” comment was omitted from the CBS broadcast, but the clip was repeated uncensored a number of times. RIP Tim Conway. A man who brought pure joy to this world.
Agreed
Our Heroes are falling quickly soon we will have none that can compare.
TIM WAS FROM OHIO WE MISS HIM
I watched an interview with Carol. She said Tim constantly went off script during taping. The shock, horror, and destruction you see on their faces was real. They never knew what was coming out of his mouth next. Best comedy show of all time.
Vickie did an interview where the director just told her the story was going to be different but didn't give her any details
I saw an interview with Vicki Lawrence Schultz and she said that while normally they'd know in advance most of what would happen in a skit, in this one some changes were made and all they were told was "The elephant story will be different." Their reaction on stage was their first time hearing it.
Frito you are correct. Vicki did an interview where she was only told the elephant story would be different. Her husband told her to "get him" referring to Tim Conway.
@Dennis Goebelt Here Here!!!
I can't hear what she actually says though, laughing is too loud.
It's 2023....and I still watch this when I need a laugh.
So funny !!
Almost 2024!
Clearly one of the best television moments of all time
This is my all-time favorite Carol Burnett sketch. There is nothing like this on tv anymore. This is comedy gold!
And it's clean.
So true!!!
@@nana820able Absolutely
Don't forget Tim Conway & Harvey Korman doing the Dentist skit! More comedy gold!
@@Beezlie727 I have always loved that little side thing they had going, trying to get the other to lose it during a skit. Of course Conway seemed to win more than Korman, but sometimes Korman's reactions would get me laughing harder than whatever stunt Conway pulled.
Tim Conway and Robin Williams. The best improv comedians ever. The world will never be the same without them.
For sure the Best ever
Thank goodness for clips like these. Great reminders of improv comedy. As it's the story, it's their reactions too. Priceless
I’m not sure how much of what he does is improv, which is traditionally made up on the spot as a reaction to something said or done by someone else. I have a feeling this, and much of what he does on Carol Burnett, is premeditated, even if it is unexpected by the rest of the cast. Whatever the case may be, he’s definitely one of the funniest people ever.
Actually, this one was planned in advance. Here's an interview with Vicki Lawrence that I saw a few years ago but forgot about until now:

Don't forget Jonathan Winters v=sUO6-Byrel0
Man, where did these shows go. I'm 56 and remember sitting with my mom watching these funny moments.
Me too. My mom's favorite show. Now we are stuck with the trash that poses as TV.
Vicki's comment at the end is the best!😂😂😂
What made this so funny was Tim Conway's perfect timing. He'd tell a bit of the story, crack up the cast, let them get themselves together, and just when it seemed like the skit would get back on track, he'd start the story again. Beautiful.
NO. What made this so funny is that Carol let him keep going. And going. And going.
Tim was even cracking up at his own story part of the time. He was magic when it came to comedy!
And then Vicky comes in and wipes the floor with all of them in one classic line.
That's called TIMING.
Yes. He was amazing. Very talented.
Oh my Lord! I’m in tears right now. Tim Conway has to have one of the best comedic timing of any person I’ve ever seen. This makes me laugh hysterically every time I see it!
The dentist skit with Harvey Korman 😂😂😂😂
This one is funny because they kept trying to not laugh and couldn't look at him without laughing
This is by far, the funniest sketch from Carol Burnett. When Vickie Lawrence makes that remark about if that a**holes done, I lose it every time.
I can only imagine how hard it was for tim to play straight in this bit lol in all his bits. So hilarious
Tim's delivery here was perfect. He waited the perfect amount of time to continue the story, just when they thought he was finished he added more, genius.
And Vicki's was deadly :D
that's what is so fascinating...Tim had perfect timing, but the other cast members did also. You could see Tim biding his time to deliver, and the others trying to wait for the laughter to finish, compose themselves, and get the lines in before Tim could continue. Tim was just a quarter second quicker...
The best part is that Mama's quip was totally in character.
Ad libbed.
But she pulled it off.
@@lukehunter6922 - Yep, sure got her revenge on him.
It was just great!!!!
@@lukehunter6922 Yes....she was new. What she said was a little out of character for any of them but she made Tim Conway and Dick Van Dyke fall in the floor laughing out of control..... awesome..
@@robgeorgia8801 it's Lyle Wagoner not DVD.
Brilliant! Brilliant! Vicky Lawrence, put the nail in the coffin! Lol
R.I.P. Sir. Thanks for the laughs, rest well knowing that you helped a young man from Harlem escape a sometimes difficult times in life. 🤣💔😇
Goodbye Tim Conway
We will miss you
Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏼😊
God bless you.
I wish you all the best,

_"Schnork!"_
*LMAO....*
The shot of all three of them with their heads down is perfection😂😂😂
THE BEST!! NO ONE TODAY CAN TOUCH THIS SHOW!!
LMAO! Tim Conway. . .a classic! I needed this one!
Carol Burnett called Tim Conway the funniest man she'd ever heard. This proves it.
Conway absolutely used to destroy Harvey Korman quickly with his one liners. RIP, Tim.😎
@@mikewrasman5103 Conway's timing was impeccable. Watching him is a pure masterclass in improvised comedy.,
Vicky Lawrence wins
I don't know. Was the elephant story really THAT funny?
I been to Tim's house. First time I met him I told him, "I'm your biggest fan".... he just deadpanned me and said "oh, you're the guy?". He was always on. Always hilarious. Will be missed...
Lol!
LOL
Perfect.
LOL!
😂😂😂
Tim Conway was without a doubt the funniest man that ever lived. Natural & born to bring laughter to everyone who watched him. A comic genius!😃😃❤❤❤❤
Gnork
Cracked up the first time they did it on their TV show, still cracking up now! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Tim Conway was one of the best ad-libbers out there. RIP, Tim Conway. And thank you for making everyone laugh so much for so long.
