This song was huge for them internationally. And Delilah was a real girl he was in love with, though she never would give him that chance. Years later, when this song was nominated for a Grammy, she was his date to the ceremony. I believe she was a track star.
If I recall, she actually had a husband when this song was released. Or at the very least, boyfriend. She might have been his date to the ceremony, but there was nothing romantic about it. As much as I hate it, there was no fairy-tale ending
Well now I’m curious if the story that went around at some point of this song ruining her social life is true or not. At some point, my peers and I ended up banning the song from our playlists cuz it was somehow a rejection of how a man could profit off ruining a woman’s life… wow how the years go by
@@ladyolinden it was an innocent love song that HAPPENED to gain profit. And I remember watching interviews of her, where she seemed to be doing just fine. Turning it into a misogynistic plot means you have to think things deeper. It could have happened roles reversed, plenty of love songs made by women
I heard it differently on the radio. The DJ said the singer was in love with her and she wouldn't give him a chance. After the song got big, she tried to go after him and he rejected her because he assumed it was only because of his newfound fame that she wanted to be with him
It's getting to the point where I consume all my music via your reactions sir. Doesn't matter what you listen to, your reactions and breakdowns are epic.
I saw him play this song literally right before the song blew up. They were opening for Motion City Soundtrack and the whole lineup was incredible, but it was fun watching this song with nobody singing along, especially when like a week later it blew up and was everywhere.
Don't worry my bro; that emotion towards your wifey is much appreciated and very clear in communication. She's a lucky gal to have someone show so much love for her without saying so directly. 😭😭
When this song first came out, it was all over the radio. My friend Sandi and I were on a road trip seeing our favourite band, and we ended up calling it “the Delilah Tour”, we heard it so much (and thought it was a cute and catchy tune). It’s one of those ear candy songs you just can’t get out of your head. So, when I got home I sought out the CD single, to no avail, and I ended up getting the CD. I was absolutely blown away! Delilah doesn’t do them justice. These “kids” (I’m 72) are clever and talented and have much more depth than their HUGE hit implies. I went to see them in concert, only knowing the songs on the CD, and by then they had a new CD out. They did a song that night that astounded me called “Sunlight”. So i got their new CD. Once again, the songs were gems from start to finish. I followed a several-episode podcast that documented the recording of their album (“Coming to California”?), and just loved how accomplished it showed them to be. When I saw them next, I spoke to 2 of them (Tim snd Tom), introduced my self as “old enough to be your grandmother”, and complimented Tom on his song “Sunlight” saying it reminded me of the Beatles’ “Because”, and he said “that really means s lot to me”, The drummer seems to be able to play any instrument, the first time he sees it. I’m very impressed with Plain White Ts, who I affectionately refer to as “the Delilah Kids”. For an example of clever lyrics, try their song “Broken Record”. Brilliant.
Love this song. I also love the Post Modern Jukebox cover of it by Joey Cook. More Post Modern Jukebox is something you may want to check out in the future.
This song was actually written for a real woman by the guitarist- Tom Higgenson- obviously he was trying to impress her, but she had a boyfriend. She did go to the 2008 Grammys with him, where she said "If it wasn't for me, I'm sure Tom would've been inspired by a different girl and written an amazing song about her. As far as I'm concerned, I was in the right place at the right time and met the right person - just the luck of the draw." Someone on Twitter apparently decided to tweet out about the song being written about Delilah DiCrescenzo and claiming she was creeped out about it, but in reality she "... was nervous that I'd let Tom's fans down. They'd be disappointed to hear I have a boyfriend. Every girl would want a song written about her, and they'd think I was ungrateful and rude to deny Tom. I felt pressure to live up to those expectations.”
I don't know anything about this group, but I absolutely love this song. It's one of those that you just can't help but sing along. I love his voice and the harmonies were perfect
I would love for you to react to Death Cab for Cutie "I will follow you into the dark" I think you would really enjoy them. Thank you for the lovely reaction!
Oh I have to comment on agreement here! I ADORE Death Cab for Cutie and “I will follow you into the dark” is just the best and it gets me every time I hear it; manages to always sneak in the playlist when I don’t expect it but need it
This is one of those guilty pleasure songs of mine that make me cry but I just can't help listening to. It makes me think about a love that I know I'll never have, but damn, it sure sounds nice. ❤
A very sweet song about young love. I've liked it from the first time I heard it. It's remarkably well sung, and simple enough to learn and sing along.
I remember this song being really big for a while after it was released. It's definitely a beautiful song and is actually named after a real woman named Delilah, though they were never in a relationship.
There is a whole sub-genera of women singing response songs. My favorite on youtube is "if Hey There Delilah was written from the girl's perspective by" Elise Ecklund You should do a back to back reaction like Weird Al and the song he is parodying.
If you enjoy the acoustic and close harmony thing you will love the milk carton kids. Maybe not enough interest for the channel but personally you might want to give them a listen.
I dont know why, but this song always reminds me of a VERY different one. "If I Die Young" by the Band Perry. It can only be the harmonies or maybe they were released the same year? Very, very different songs though.
I was standing next to this guy in a nearly empty venue watching some other band and I kept roasting him because I didn't know he was about to go on stage next; because I had no idea who he was even though this was one of the bands I went to see (can't remember who else was at that show though) lmao. A couple weeks later this song blew up. They rerecorded it a couple times
I was not expecting to start tearing up during this It's always been one one of my favorite songs(first time hearing the acoustic surprisingly), but being recently out of a long distance relationship it seems to have really struck a nerve Anyways on a less sad note, agreeing with the other comments on "1, 2, 3, 4"

This is one of those songs that while it's a great song, I'm kind of burnt out on it. The song came out when I was in Middle School, and every guy I knew that played guitar would play this song. Even if someone only one song on the guitar, it was this song. It was absolutely unavoidable at small house parties. If some drunk guy owned a guitar, chances were he would be singing the song at some point during the night.
Basically, this is why I never play guitar at parties. I'm down to jam if we can get a 3 piece going, but otherwise, single guitar options are either songs everyone's heard a million times or songs no one gives a shit about.
@@TheJuutai I feel that. I play ukulele and would always get requests to play Hey Soul Sister, I'm Yours, or Somewhere Over the Rainbow. It got me burned out on those songs really quickly.

Can't wait to show this to my hubby. He went to HS with them and he rolls his eyes everytime I sing along to this song.

It’s refreshing to listen to an old song through new ears and mind. This made me cry. Thank you.

No exaggerations, not unrealistic expectations, no red flags, just pure and honest love.

I love this song so much I made 3 versions for 3 people lol. 2 as a joke and 1… yeah. It was all the first verse.
This is one of my favourite songs.

You should do a back to back reaction like Weird Al and the song he is parodying.
Love this song.
You should check out Tim Hawkins parody addressing the Bible story Samson and Delilah
Eben Brooks has an AMAZING parody of this called "Hey there Cthulhu" STRONG recommendation you check him out after hearing this.
Memories in this song
This woman named Delilah ... haha I laughed way to hard at that
If you liked this, you'll love the song 1,2,3,4. Also, on the opposite side of the love coin is their song Hate (I really Don't Like You).
My favorite song of theirs is "Hate is a Strong Word"
They just remind me of Simon and Garfunkel. The kind of have that same vibe.
Man, this song brings back some high-school memories lol

1,2,3,4 and Hate are the best Plain White T's songs aside from this one.

One of my favorites by them is Hate (I Really Don't Like You). :D But I love all their songs, if I'm being honest.
