The song "Hey There Delilah" was released in 2006, when I was just 14 years old. At the time, I didn't know the song existed, and it wouldn't become a part of my life for several years to come. Fast forward to 2013, when I was 21 years old. That's when I first heard "Hey There Delilah," and I was immediately captivated by its beauty. The song's poignant lyrics and soothing melody resonated deeply with me, and I found myself listening to it over and over again. What's remarkable is that even now, in 2025, I still enjoy listening to "Hey There Delilah." The song has stood the test of time, and its emotional impact hasn't diminished with repeated listens. It's a testament to the song's timeless quality and the memories that I've associated with it. Interestingly, I searched for the song on RUclips, it wasn't recommended to me. Despite being a popular song in its time, "Hey There Delilah" seems to have flown under the algorithm's radar. Nevertheless, I'm grateful to have discovered it when I did, and I'll continue to treasure it as a beloved part of my musical journey.
1st heard this back when I was a kid in 2007. Ever since that day, I've always loved this song. I still play it and sing it from time to time. A timeless gem
not to ruin your comment but this song is based off of him and this girl dalilah (obviously but I forgot her last name) and the leader of the band met her at a party. He tried to woo her by saying he will write a song about her, she clearly stated she has a bf. He didn't care. He made the song about her and in an interview she stated that she felt like a wench because she thought she led him on (she didn't, he just didn't care and wanted her even though she has a bf) and even said that the song turned her life in a nightmare cause wherever she went it'd be playing, the pool, party, club, whatever.
I miss this kind of music. I'm sure many people agree with me... (Edit) I made this comment when I was 13. I’m 18 now and still listen to some of this genre of older music ❤️ thanks for the love on the comment yall :) all the music recommendations are highly appreciated as well
This was my sister's favorite song I learned to play it for her when I was around 8 or 9. She died in 2007 lost her battle to cancer. My first child is due Jan 11th 2025, and we have decided to name her Delilah Marie Taylor.
Years ago, I met my first Delilah. She would always light up the room whenever she walked in. We never really went anywhere with this love. I don't think either of us really knew how to. So now I listen to this song for the first time in a long time all these years later, and it hits differently now. We had our ups and downs. I still wish her luck even when I miss her.
This song came out 13, almost 14 years ago. I wonder how Delilah is, did she ever finish school? Is her life the way she imagined it to be 13 years ago? Time passes, people come and go, we love and we lose but some memories are frozen in time where they exist forever
She is actually a proffesional distance runner and attended the grammy award show where this song was nominated to best song of the year in 2008, as a guest of Higgenson. Her name is Delilah DiCrescenzo, and they actually never dated.
did anyone just suddenly need to listen to this, almost like if life was like a little kid tugging your arm to listen to this, and you listen to it anyway because theres just something about it that seems like you need to?
So true It gave me the permission to fall apart the night my mum passed away I was with her as she died I had been strong , then got into my car put radio on and this was playing Best cry I ever had Jenny xx
Lol, trusts me, that doesn't really help either. Even when you're in the moment which you know you'll miss later and is something you'll look back on fondly, you can do nothing about it. You can't make it any better or worse. The awareness does literally nothing, lol. #speaking from experience

LMAO SAME I've been listening and replaying it well doing homework and singing it at the top of my lungs and my moms like :uhhhh I might need to take her phone away
My brother took his own life yesterday, he used to always sing me this song, he sounded really similar to the singer and it’s almost like he’s still singing to me
This song came out when I was in high school and had just met my boyfriend. Fourteen years later we are married, very happy and have three children. Lovely to hear again! ❤️
The guy that i loved many years ago died yesterday😢this was the song he sang to me on the phone.A sweet guy that id never had but has a place in my heart.
This used to be me and my dad's song. He would sing it to me on the phone when he was thousands of miles away for work. He hasn't been apart of my life for 9 years, and for so long, I was unable to listen to this without crying. I still get emotional hearing it, but I'm finally able to listen to it fully. I know that this song is about him and his love, but I was my dad's love (not in a gross way bc I know how y'all be thinking) I haven't had a father figure for over half of my life, I just wish I could have experienced that with him
I can't imagine what it's like not having a father figure. But I do know what it's like to lose somebody. You have memories of him and connections like this song, never let go of them. Even if he's not there these emotional links bring you closer to him, even if it doesn't make lot of sense. What the song itself is about isn't important. It's a piece of art and therefore whatever emotions you have asociated with it, those are the important aspects of that art. What anyone else thinks isn't as important as what it means to you. I wish you that this connection help you overcome difficulties of life, so that your father will keep being part of your life, even if not personaly.
I've lived without a father too, I wish you all the best. Keep strong, maybe you have or can find a partner to share that magic with again, or even a child of your own if you ever choose to have one
Anyone else listen to this song because it takes you back to simpler times when life wasn’t so confusing? It’s like a little time capsule of emotion that seems like a memory.
After I learned about the backstory behind “Hey there Delilah” from Plain White T’s, I was moved to tears when I played the guitar singing the song. The lead singer( Tom Higgenson) met this girl Delilah, a university student at a party, and he immediately fell for her, even if she had a boyfriend at that time. He decided to write a song for her, although he didn’t really know her very well. The whole song is pretty much based on his imagination of New York City and how the long distance relationship would be. The song became a big hit in 2007, and it got nominated for Grammy Award in 2008. Delilah attended the Grammy award show with Tom, only as a friend. There is absolutely nothing romantic happened between them. Delilah was bothered by the song and by the disappointed fans of the band for quite some time. She did nothing wrong, after all, it is perfectly fine to be not interested and not feel the same way for someone. And it is not Tom Higgenson’s fault either, although it is kinda creepy to write songs for someone who was already taken. Real life is not always like a fairytale, and in most cases, there is no happy ending to it. As an artist, you can write most beautiful poems or songs that may last in history for hundreds of years, however, it can’t change the fact that he/she is simply not into you. The song tells the long distance relationship story that didn’t exist between Tom and Delilah, but it can always be someone’s story. In 2012, my first girlfriend and I went to different cities for universities. I still remembered the distance between us is 1241 km( 776 miles), which sounds like millions of miles to the 19-year-old of us with no cars nor extra cash for train/plane tickets. We hoped we can work out the long-distance relationship. However, it only lasted for months. It was a quite peaceful breakup. Many years passed, we never talked to each other, and we both ended up in US. I was in Davis California, and she was and still is in New York City. When I made the last minute escape trip to New York City 3 years ago on New Year’s Eve, she texted me and asked me out, and we had a dinner and some drinks near Columbia university, like two old friends. We were both single then, and we talked about those days when we were kids and laughed at the interesting moments we had before. When the night ended, we hugged goodbye, and we were back to the stranger mode. We both knew, we had our chances years ago, it didn’t work out then , and it wouldn’t work out now. Sometimes I wish there actually were some parallel universes, and in one of them, we all can have the happy endings. Maybe then, we can feel better about those regrets. Or, life is beautiful because of existence of those regrets, which reminds us to always cherish every moment and every one who appeared in our life?

I was almost 14 when this came out...and now it's 14 years old. You never realize how much of a baby you are at 14 until you see 14 years go by. As far as I'm concerned, there are no years when we're kids -- we just go to school, worry about homework and tests, play and hang out with friends, there is no concept of time other than the first and last days of school. We didn't care about time. Now we actively see time - dreading Monday at work, wishing it's Friday, for some it's seeing your own kids grow up, our parents getting old, experiencing relationships and counting anniversaries. If there's any 14 year olds in the comments - cherish your youth. Life goes fast once you graduate college.
My dog’s name was Delilah. She was put down today. Not sure if I can ever listen to this song again without crying. Edit: 3 weeks later and now this song gives me happy memories of 14 years with a loyal family dog.

Interestingly, I searched for the song on RUclips, it wasn't recommended to me. Despite being a popular song in its time, "Hey There Delilah" seems to have flown under the algorithm's radar. Nevertheless, I'm grateful to have discovered it when I did, and I'll continue to treasure it as a beloved part of my musical journey.

not to ruin your comment but this song is based off of him and this girl dalilah (obviously but I forgot her last name) and the leader of the band met her at a party.

I know that this song is about him and his love, but I was my dad's love (not in a gross way bc I know how y'all be thinking) I haven't had a father figure for over half of my life, I just wish I could have experienced that with him
Starae Beauty this song has different meaning for everyone but your one is probably the hardest to hear :(
I can't imagine what it's like not having a father figure.

@@kelsea5533 I m really sorry to hear that bro
Always loved this song 🎵
That's really true, your last lines broke me
This is so beautiful

I sang this song with my mom back when we still drove a 1992 Ford Tempo, she loved it so much even though she barely knew English she would still her best to sing it. She passed in Dec of ‘09 and I still remember being with her in our little run down car driving on the highway. Miss you mama ❤
Your comment made me cry. God bless you and I’m sorry for your loss.

Shutcho ass up
Such a simple, beautiful love song. The kind of love that everyone dreams of when they’re young and mourns when they’re not.
I used to listen to this song everyday while getting ready for school. I don’t know why but it used to always bring me peace and I would start my day with it. 14 years later this is still such a beautiful song
Hahaha I used to listen this when I was on my way to school.. 15 years later I still listen it's calms every thing down

Imagine Ppl being born in 2019 not knowing why this song is so great and nostalgic
i was born in 2002 and just got this in recommended, just the music by itself is really soothing, even though you dont feel nostalgia
This song is actually beautiful, I've never heard it until this year. I was born in 2008 and this song was released around 2005-2007 but I still find it nostalgic lmao
