BUILDING A SIMPLE & ADJUSTABLE CARVING TABLE - easy woodcarving table with clamp

- Woodworking instructional video of a very simple DIY adjustable carving table. The table allows a fully adjustable angle as well as a custom vice that helps hold your carving project in place without any annoying clamps getting in the way. This table is NOT professionally built so it's not going to be perfect. You can notice my table wobble slightly because of the build being slightly off. I didn't want to spend the time to investigate why, I'm just as happy shimming one of the legs slightly which takes care of the slight wobble. If you enjoyed the video make sure you like, subscribe, and share it! It really helps me out!
I've been carving on tables that really didn't give me the adjustment or versatility that I needed. I think this table will really help with that. I haven't carved on it yet, but I am really looking forward to it. If you have any questions on tools, material, or building instruction just let me know.

Hi! I have started working from home and want to build a shorter version of this to put on my kitchen counter. Could I contact you via email for a list of supplies?
Best,
Rob
Hey sorry for the late response.. Honestly, I don't even have a material list. Besides the large table top, it's pretty much only 2x4s, 4x4s, 1x4s, and a couple bolts and nuts.
I don't know a dayum thing about wood carving nor do I even know how I stumbled upon this video. This was pretty cool to watch. seems very handy for the wood carving hobby/business. This stuff is why I love the internet.
A very approachable project in terms of skills and materials. It could also be upscaled if one wished to in terms of joinery or materials. Main thing is it works well, looks decent and cost is modest. Gets you up and running!
Superb carving table, great colour at the end and so professional looking and finish. Well done, great choice of background music too!!
Thank you john goodall!
I need one of these for myself.
Nice bench, I could use one for sure. Thank you
Thanks! Yeah it's really been working out nice for me so far!
Haha, recognized the song!
Nice work my friend. I usually don't like music on vids but this one worked well. Keep going!!!!
Thanks
Good work man !!!! 💪😀
thanks!
Make simple twist knobs by drilling a slightly undersized hole that fits your nut. Pound in and you'll save hand strain latter.
Yeah good idea. I definitely think I'm gonna need something else instead of those nuts.
Nice!
Thanks
Can anyone --- recommend the SmartDesk Kit from Autonomous?
Very nice work! What is the material between your work and clamp? Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks! It’s a piece of rubber to prevent the work from sliding
Really have learned a ton from your videos! Thanks for sharing your talent!
Very interesting design, thanks for sharing. From looking at your other videos, I presume you prefer carving with your table at an angle vs. flat. Is this table solid enough that it does not wobble when you really have to lean into your gouges? And do you carve sitting or standing? And one more thing, did you make the tabletop or buy it? However you are doing it, you are quite a talent!
Thank you! Yeah I do prefer the table at an angle and it's pretty solid. It doesn't wobble at all when I use a mallet or have to really lean into it. Sometimes I have to shim it to make sure I have perfect 4 leg ground contact but that's about it. I usually carve sitting. I actually bought the table top from Menards and drilled in the holes. I didn't have the equipment to glue up a piece of wood that size so I adjusted my design around the size of the table top.
Chiseled Outdoors Custom Carvings One more question, what is the table top size, something like 48 x 30?
The table top is 24"x 48"
"Simple"
But seriously this is awesome
Yeah lol. I wouldn't say it's super simple, but with an adjustable angle table top with a vice I don't think you can water it down any more. A person could definitely go without the vice if they wanted. That would eliminate a lot of the more technical measurements and things.
After all the videos I've had to go thru, this is by far the best design and exactly what I've been looking for. Any chance you have have a materials list and build instructions?
Thanks, I'm glad! Unfortunately, I don't have a material list. The build instructions are apart of the video.
@@ChiseledOutdoorsCC thanks & appreciate ypu getting back to me so quick - will havw this on repeat quite a bit so i can work itall out. Again thanks, and its a beautiful piece👌
Michael Long If you have any questions just let me know. It’s nothin much material wise. Its just some 4x4s, 2x4s, and then a couple bolts.
@@ChiseledOutdoorsCC sorry, just saw your reply - appreciated👍 I'm just trying to work out the angle range from flat to almost upright & the supports - I'm guessing that comes down to personal preference. You might be hearing from me from time to time as I get the project from stage to stage
Any recommendations for height of the table? 30" seems a bit low if I wanted to stand and carve (I'm 5'11"). Though I'm totally new to carving, so not sure if it's better so sit or stand.
My table is actually around 34" total height. As far as my thoughts regarding height if you'd like to stand. It's honestly personal preference. You may want to play around with it a little and see what height fits you. I'd suggest closer to 42" as a starting point. Measure the height from the floor to you belly button. That's a good estimate as to how tall your table should be.
Thanks for the reply! Do you have any sort of measurements for the support pieces?
Do you have print plans for this?
No sorry I don’t..
Why do you need a carving station for turke……….oh...….nevermind.
Wish lumber was not so high i would make me one
Yeah I agree. Hopefully it comes down in price soon.
nope from the future@@ChiseledOutdoorsCC
Bruh you have no stand for your chop saw?
No I don’t lol. It’s on my list
@@ChiseledOutdoorsCC might as well make one
@@YuRiy1111 Of course he can, with a lot of drilling, and screwing, and bolts easy peasey!!!
Great ideas and excellent work; but please don’t spend so much time showing me how you cut boards, drill holes, spread glue and drive screws. I can already do all that. I want to see what you built and how it functions. What cool features does it have?
Thanks. It’s a how to video, not show and tell. The features of the table are at the end.
