As you said, I'm surprised this isn't more common. It's amazing! And quite the idea for an artist! Awesome stuff! Definitely trying a version of this out. Thanks for posting!
All desks should be tilting drafting table styles - especially in schools elementary --> college. Literally bad for our spines to not have it this way.
Well, here's my duh moment of the week. Here I am scouring Marketplace for a drawing/drafting table and not seeing anything I like and BAM! I had this video pop up in my feed. Brilliant! Thanks!
I've got a drafting table that took a beating. I love this table. Had it since I was a student. Didn't want to get rid of it because everything is good, except the table top. Been looking for diy videos on how to make a table top. Then I ran into your video!!! Ikea, here I come!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
Using a commercial tabletop is a great idea. I have wanted to build a drawing table, but thought unfinished plywood and hand sanding was going to be my only option with no planer or anything. How smart to just outsource the surfacing of the tabletop to Ikea!
Really nice use of the tool box. I have an old desk I am refinishing and want to create a drafting table out of. Thanks for some simple but good thoughts :)
Really cool idea for all the storage, but where do your knees go? Do you only use it standing up? Seems it wouldn't be comfortable to sit in front of as you'd have to spread your knees wide to get close or lean in a lot.
This is a basic work bench from home depot he put a top to. Very creative way to use it. never thought about a tool bench as an art table. I've been looking for one myself when i got a tool bench in my garage.
For my setup the top surface is larger the. The bottom so there is and overhang. I stand mostly at the table and would hit my knees yes. You can modify this to use a larger top with more overhang for leg room or even a hollow base table if you like
Matt, I'm new to the art/painting world. I have a workbench I purchased from Home Depot years ago. It's great for painting but it has zero storage. I'm thinking I could get a table top from Ikea and mount it on the bench with the piano hinges. (?). But there will be no storage. Your desk is so cool. It has everything a crafter could want or need. Where did you find the rolling tool box?

Do you have room so your legs knees don’t hit the cabinet? The design looks great!

Hey Debbie these tool boxes can be found at Home Depot (that’s where this one was I think) lows, rona and many other building stores
@@OozyToast thanks. Just to confirm, you used a table top from IKEA and piano hinges to attach the table top.
@@debbieramos7456 ikea top and by old hinge but you could use any old top too
Well done! Stealing idea for my art desk:).
Wish you showed how to make it.
