This was the 2nd night of the now legendary Oct. 1989 Hampton shows under the billing of the Dead as "The Warlocks"
In addition to the spectacular renditions of each song, it was also the 1st Dark Star since Berkley 1984, the 2nd Death Don't Have No Mercy since 1972, the 1st Attics of My Life since 10-28-1972 and the 1st time Dark Star and Death Don't were played in the same show since 11-2-69 ...
Regardless of the "firsts", the playing here, from start to end, was simply ON THE BALL (in the wave, on target, whatever !). Enjoy.

These Hampton shows you put up are great recordings.
As I've have seen my share of this wonderful tune, there's a few that Jerry really nails. A carnival sound . Been having trouble finding "The One". There's a handful of jaw dropping, absolutely amazing solos, we know the ones that just blow the roof off the place. Can someone turn me back on and give one of those that absolutely floored me back when. Been having trouble finding "The Ones " the ones where you almost couldn't believe your ears, I know they were all great in their own way, but there's a few that defied gravity, the one that made you yell out, where he really nailed it. Granted I was most likely very high, but I know there's a few out there that are almost indescribable. The one, or ones that really stood out. A carnival feel. I really don't have the correct powers of expression but I know what was what. I'll know when I hear it. Thanks everyone. Love you all. Miss those days and Jerry so much sometimes it hurts. K. my man erick deveau...idont know if ican do what your lookn 4..but im alittle like you..like this songs says...im always awake always around singn...im 55yrs young and in my youth iloved music..grown up in this country..my parents were from sonora mexico..igrew up in ariz...and still call it home....anyhoo..in h.s. ihad friends that playd guitar...and when igraduated ibought a set of drums for$100..me and my brother wanted to play so bad...you know..with guitars and bass and drums ..a ensamble has always been my dream..my brother liked playn metal while idecided the blues was going to be my way....he always had the talent..while ihad to practice all the time and study music all the time to think icould play....and everyone agreed that my younger by two yrs brother was the one!:) in my study's iwent to ashow in phx..by myself...called..oh chit! icant remembr right now...anyhoo..it was half santana and half grateful dead..with bob wier..that singer with santana bill krutz the drummer and such while at the same time in la califas playd gerry and carlos with such...oh my yhwhshua!!! itripd so hard with shroomies and maryjane....ifelt the core of the earth while a summer monsoon started to brew outside....iexpierenced telepathy with krutz the drummer.....magic....ialso wound up seeing the greatful ones acouple of times back in..oh chit again...but i remember that time they playd outside at comton terrace..phx......and tripd again....the magic happend for me when jerry playd uncle johns band that part where he says ..ibeg you pick the tune..anybodys choice ...ican hear your voice.....oh chit brother magic!!! thx fellow dead head!:)
oh yea i remember something else...they started playn this song ..sorry its been along long strange kinda trip......sunshine something or another....when they started it had been raining in phx....strange as it sounds...the clouds opend up and the sunshine came in...ilearnd that they had been practicing that song ..and playd it that day for the first time in like 20 sumptin years....brother im telln you..it was magic!
9/20/90 is the one that does it for me. Start it from the beginning of Space and work your way through the massive Dark Star. The Throwin jam wasn't a solo at all. Yeah, Jerry ripped it but it was a full band effort and he let everyone around him shine. The Touch rocked too!
I think this song was strongest around the time that the album was released. Before that Garcia‘s solo hadn’t quite gelled, then later it got sloppy. I can’t find the specific great version I had seen, which is actually how I got here.
I saw that 3/20/86 was good and so close to the coma!
And another 1990 was strong, so you might pursue 89-90 too.

Hey y'all, can somebody put up that one Throwing Stones where and when Jerry just takes over completely. I can't remember so well these days but the tempo is a bit faster and it just turns into this gigantic carnival of sound. Wish I could remember where we were, it's one of those that just blew up into this kinda jumping up and down and you could hardly believe what you/we were getting. I wish I could find it, or one even close, they're all great in their own, but there was a few that really blew the roof off. Hurdy Gurdy thing! Carnival. Please?
