Ayaan Hirsi Ali is an notably talented writer. Her book “Infidel” is a fascinating story about her escape from war torn Somalia and journey to freedom. A prolific and award worthy author.

We find ideology, faith or method or lifestyles that heal or help maintain us as best we can but some of us don’t hold too tight to any of the above because we realise each issue requires us to be fluid and to listen ….. my point was that she is not and cannot be an expert in the Palestinian experience or the queer experience or British queer responses to Palestine and that just because she is a writer , nice person and survivor of one branch of Islam does not mean you should swallow all she says without considered digestion of her more recent struggles and speaking or reading or listening to the very people ( gay people) and asking and listening to why they support Palestinian people. As a Jewish African looking at this conflict I see the stark need to stop conflating the entire struggle of Palestinian people with Hamas . It is disingenuous and reductive . It lacks nuance and therefore lacks any capacity to aid in mutual understanding or solutions or healing. And it certainly won’t give the people of Palestine any sense that there is anyone but Hamas willing to speak up listen and defend them from Zionist and Israeli brutality. And yes, I have family in Israel .

What an absolutely ridiculous, thoughtless and uncompassionate statement to make! First, nothing justifies genocide, thus representives from any group can find reason to stand against it. Second, those who belong to oppressed groups e.g. Palestinians and queer people in this case, share a common purpose in resisting and seeking freedom from oppression. It might be that contradictions exist between those groups, but in such times as genocide, the uniting force (that of freedom from oppression) is greater than the condradictory forces. We should all be united against genocide and oppression no matter who we are or who we speak up to protect.

Most of the "queers for Palestine" advocates I have seen, appear to be satirical and mocking the woke crowd blindly supporting Palestine. I dont know how significant of a movement there is within the LGBTQ movement who genuinely support Palestine.
Also even if the Palestinians arent so friendly to gay people, does that mean we should completely ignore their suffering in Gaza, just because they dont like gay people?
It means one shouldn’t support and empower people who would throw you off a roof.
I think most LGBTQ+ people support Palestine. Let's not forget that the religious Jews and the settlers would just as quickly throw us off a roof. As would many Christian Conservatives in the USA.
There is suffering, desperation, war and misery going on in a lot of places on this globe. Ask yourself why has it now become such a big deal that Gazan’s are suffering.
