  • Demonstration of how I switch the steam wand of EC155 to Silvia V1/V2 steam wand.
    Apologize for such a long video as I tried to include all the necessary information for this mod. As I also mention in the video, pay extra attention and take your time when trying to remove the wand from the machine.

    Yes!
    I am a huge fan of scrappy modifications to make our gear better!
    I got a 51mm non pressurized basket for my Mr Coffee and a nice tamper but my machine failed after 4 good years... now I want to replace it with a machine that I can do modifications to.
    My tamper and basket may work in this machine too!. Maybe my regular steam wand tip looks like it will screw right on:)

    Thx for this. I got stuck on the 2nd turn of the wand. At that point I detached the hose and reverses the direction for the wand to exit. Much easier that way, but wouldn't have known that initially.

      Yeah, I got stuck on the 2nd turn when I mod on the other machine. I agree that sometimes it's easier to do it the other way around.

    Hi..
    I had my steam wand modified
    What I did..
    1. Remove the bolt at the bottom of your machine with hex allen key
    2. Disconnect the 2 hose at the bottom at one side so it will not obstacle when you pull out the whole machine...
    3. Remove the top knob and the front knob
    4. Remove the 2 bolt at the top side and 2 bolt at the bottom and remove the top cover
    5. Disconnect the hose going to the steam wand. Use soap water
    6. Remove 4 bolt inside the machine which are holding the machine...
    7. PULL the machine out so you can access the wand to remove it.
    8. Remove the plastic part at the steam wand so you can use it to the new one...
    9. Insert the new steam wand
    10. Connect the hose
    11. Fix back the machine and all bolt.

    So I have the EC155M don't think there's many differences internally. Either way, removing that wand just took me 2 hours and a couple numb fingers.
    The friction between each machine must really vary slightly. I practically broke that black plastic piece that the wand swivels in trying to get it out. The metal plate bent, but I managed to bend it back into shape.
    Before installing the silvia wand, I heated the old wand up with a torch and put it back in that plastic piece to melt the hole slightly to a larger diameter. Then it made installing the Silvia wand much easier, feels quite flimsy now because of how worn that plastic piece is after messing with it. Put a little super glue to try and make things a little tighter.
    Anyways, the process isn't fun. However the wand 100% makes up for it. Completely different results in steamed milk with this wand.

    When you had this apart, did you notice if the tamper mounting was the same size as the steamer wand? I need my steamer wand on the right for me to use it. I am hoping to do everything you did to remove the steamer wand, then remove the tamper, then swap them to opposite sides. Thanks for the best internal description of the De'Longhi 15 bar espresso machine I have seen.

      Steve Boessow you are very welcome. I am glad I could help. Sorry I didn't attempt to swap the steam wand to the other side, but I know most machine steam wand is usually on the other side. I think if you take out the plastic temper from the machine, the steam wand will fit that slot but will be too loose. However, I bet a pack of different sizes of rubber grommet will make a good fit for this mod. I may wanna try this also another day

    I ripped the hose trying to pull old wand up. It is very hard pulling it up!! Where can I get replacement hose from to fix it?

    • @capitalc0524
      @capitalc0524  4 года назад +1

      I understand your pain. I ripped mine too when I did it the first time. I end up just cut out the ripped part and have mine a little shorter. You could consider cutting it if it ripped near the end. Otherwise, I would try to look and see if places like home depot may have replacement. It is advices that better to stay home at this critical time, but if you are going out there, please wear mask and protect yourself. Stay safe!

      @@capitalc0524 thanks for the reply, that's exactly what I did! It looks like it Rips at the edge of the metal part of the old wand inside it.
      So I cut the the hose there, pulled the old wand down instead if trying to manouver it up( I couldn't no matter what find the angle and pass first turn!)
      Connected the rancillio wand and zip tied it, then still couldn't make itnoass the first turn pushing it down, no matter what soap water I used, the plastic circle is rigid, so ended up using a hot knife and making a cut in that plastic whole, which made things easier to push down the new wand. Yes hose is shorter, but it works!
      Thanks for the video again, hope my experience helps .

    but why did you buy this machine? you have la pavoni and u had gaggia right?

    • @capitalc0524
      @capitalc0524  6 лет назад +1

      Martin Kulik I actually lost both Gaggia and the EC 155 at a moment. So, when I only have a La Pavoni, I wanted a second machine that I can put it at my parents home. So I purchased my second EC 155 as this is cheapest and I already has the custom naked portafilter and double basket. However, after I got this EC155, my friend decided to give me her Gaggia to me as a gift. So now I have three machines again

      ok you know what would be interesting if you can shoot the video comparing the shots of espresso. i mean if you can grind the coffee the same and the same portion of coffee too and make shots extraction possibly with naked porta and then show and taste the shots....this would be really good to see and compare all these machines in action...and also if you can compare the taste...

    I followed your steps exactly. Now my shower screen is dripping when warming up the machine. Also,the steam wand is dripping when I turn to steaming mode. I reopened the machine, there is no water leaking inside. Did you encounter this? Also any recommendations to fix it?

    • @capitalc0524
      @capitalc0524  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment! I didn't have this problem when I did the modification. Have you try operating the machine while opening the top? It's a bit hard to tell what exactly is the problem without seeing it. But dripping like this usually related to valve not close completely. You may also look at hose connecting to pump. But I don't think this modification touch any of those so it's weird for that dripping to happen.

      @@capitalc0524 thanks for replying. May be I have missed up the valve in the process over tightening it. I will try to revisit it.
