I would like to see this machine perform as it is modded, side by side with a Gaggia Classic unmodded and have you do a comparison. I don't doubt the Gaggia would be better but it seems only by a little given how beautiful this shot looks!
Thanks for the video. I feel Delonghi should have designed it with a large basket in the first place :) I have this machine and found the large basket Delonghi provides fits 11 grams of coffee.
Hey, I’ve done a few similar things as you with my ec155, if you wrap a rubber band around the basket right below the lip, it’ll sit in the portafilter without wiggling around or falling out
I swapped my Delonghi ECO310 stock basket with non-pressurized as well, but I didn't do any hammer, wrap the side of basket with silicon teflon tape, that holds well for stock portafilter like yours and, keep the spout as it is.
Great Video. I did the same modification but with for example Lavazza or Illy coffee blend the coffee comes without cream. Maybe should I buy from a grinder and to buy coffee beans?
I have this machine and use a naked filter, but I noticed that in the middle of extraction of a double dose the green light goes off. Is this a problem?
Best ec155 capabilities with mods video. You went over all the important stuff everyone asks questions about. Im able to use millenium basket without flattening the rim, although its a bit tight. Do you think i should still flatten it or that i might be damaging the group? Also, what grind adjustment did yoy maks to get that slower shot? Mine goes fast like your first shot
Thanks for the comment, I adjusted the grinder about 4 settings finer for the second shot... Should have moved maybe 2 setting finer still. For what a new basket costs, I would absolutely flatten the rim, worked perfectly with the machine....
Thanks for the video. Espresso newb here. Can you provide the part number (if you have it) for the basket? I searched for Millennium basket but there seems to be more than one size.
I have this machine and switched to a bottomless portafilter but Im finding it impossible to get even the tiniest bit of crema. I'm using fresh beans, trying different grinds, distributing and tamping...I don't know how to get shots like yours! :\
I'm not sure what is going wrong... If the beans are fresh (not from a grocery store) crema should always be there... Or your grinding way too coarse maybe... Probably the beans though...
Great vid man, do you think the EC155 could pair well with a baratza encore? The encore also has a way to adjust to go even finer than with the normal hopper adjustment.
I've never used an encore but from what I understand it does not have enough grind settings to make Non-pressurized shots.... I would not say it is a good choice for espresso.... the Breville would be better for that purpose though, had more grind adjustments and is about the same price...
Love this video, I have an ec155 that I've had for years and hardly ever used.. I really want to do the portafilter mod, I'm a machinist so was debating making my own steam want on the cnc and threading it onto the end of the standard wand instead of the plastic tip.. failing that I'll buy the rancilio haha...
@@nickb5091 apologies I never saw this reply! I made one from brass as I only had that or titanium to hand, and I didn't fancy machining the Ti 😂 in the end I just bought the rancilio wand and can confirm it works brilliantly.. a little bit tricky to fit, and I bent it into a more horizontal angle to aid the 'whirlpool' in the pitcher, but I like it!
I don’t know if you still respond to comments on this video but if you see this I want to ask- how do i get my shots to be like the second one you pulled? My shots spray everywhere and have no crema even though I’m distributing and tamping
I'm pretty sure you have solved this by now, but this sounds like it's probable that the coffee your using is too stale and not ground fine enough.... Using preground coffee will not work like this either...
ya the new ones are made much better so you can't modify them. Delonghi improved them after they saw the youtube videos where people were modifying them to pull shots with unpressurized filters.
@@tonygibbons5 they modified the portafilter so you can't take it apart anymore and easily insert an unpressurized filter. Delonghi does not want their customers using unpressurized filters.
Yes... If it is a pro model, the outer ring Burr on the grinder can be removed and you can rotate the ring to a finer setting which is a smaller number, it is in the manual that comes with the unit...
@@mahavirconsulting just for clarity, I mean you need to remove the outer Burr, remove a spring, and turn a collar for adjsument... They have a lot of adjustability so if it is a pro model, you will be able to get in the range you need. Not refer to the collar under the hopper, the actual Burr....
I dont know if this will help but i have a delonghi dedica with a non pressurised basked with this grinder and i get really good shots with the inner burr set to 5 and the grind setting 16
Nice video! How would you compare the shots you are able to get out of the modded machine, and the Breville Barista Express? Also does this grinder have more steps than th similar grinder included in the BBE? Thanks!
So the grinders are basically the same except I believe the barista express has a slightly stronger motor from the smart grinder pro. As for the shots comparison, I would say they are close but I briefer the barista express, and the workflow is way way way easier.
great video! I picked my EC155 for 25 bucks on FB. Really great unit for the price. Thank you for the info and ideas. Cheers!
I got mine the exact same way

It's like a mini plastic Gaggia Classic!
The manual shows you should drain the boiled water with an empty attached basket. Does it matter if you do it with or without?
