As someone who had to crawl out of the hole of poverty, I used to feel very bitter about nepo babies, but now I don't. We would all use the connections if we had them.

There isn't necessarily anything wrong with having connections but when you use them to circumvent legal or ethical boundaries. It's also how that person uses those connections especially if it's used to cause any type of harm even if it's just that's harm that where it's clearly in the wrong.
I feel really bad for Sunny because she's clearly working hard but some people just don't really appreciate her talent because they always say that she doesn't deserve to be in SNSD because of her connection to the company. Sunny continued to perform with SNSD even after the ankle injury she had , she has always been the mood booster and sunshine of the group along with Tiffany,both of them received a lot of hate for useless reasons,been called worst dancers of the group then it was later discovered that even Tiffany had scoliosis but never spoke about it until 2019 after she returned from the US from her solo tours

Nepo babies get a head start but longevity and success is not guaranteed. It's takes more than a famous name, you need the talent, likeability and so much more to be a star in your own right.
Even the longetivity is still easier with nepotism like those who have those opportunities are always going to be able have support which will make it easier for them to become dedicated their hard work is also easy work compared to those who have too rely only on their talent and practice
Giselle's aunt dating LSM was a rumor and never confirmed. Also if she did get in through connections its doesn't make sense she's subjectively the worst treated in aespa. Not just having fewer lines but being ignored in CFs, having her in-ears fail in two straight SMtown concerts, having her Spotify playlist not being uploaded in a timely manner, the list goes on and on.
just because she's not treated right, the term doesn't apply to "only people who have promotion", it's simply designed as "a niece of LSM girlfriend". If she's an idol solely because of that, she's already a nepobaby.

One thing that is usually overlooked when discussing the issue of nepotism in the entertainment industry is the somehow inevitable fact that since one was brought up in the industry, they would probably be inspired to enter the same field. For example, if one is a child of a director or an actor or an entertainer, they probably grew up seeing them at work, on set, and in real life as their parents' colleagues or circle of friends. It won't be very far-fetched that you would want to try to be in that field as well. They can be inspired to pursue the same career path. I agree that they would be at an advantage, having one foot inside the door, so to speak. But they still have to do the hard work in order to succeed. It may be an easy entry, but longevity is the ultimate test. I would take the case of Will Smith and his kids. It's like no matter how hard they try, they just can't have their career skyrocket and instead they always end up like jokes. On the other side of the argument, we have Angelina Jolie, who is the daughter of Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, both famous actors. We cannot deny that Angelina is one of the best actresses there is, even from her earliest movies like "Girl, Interrupted". Not a lot of people back then know who her parents were, especially because she and her father were estranged for a really long time. And just because they have famous, rich parents in the industry doesn't mean these people didn't work hard for their dreams. To be honest, I don't have that much problems with so-called nepo babies as long as they didn't use their family's connections to get into the field and if they are indeed talented. It is also unfair to those who work hard and just happened to been born to a family of say, artists, etc.

She did almost a year of training with an agency, but went to a well known training academy for idols prior (known for its ridiculously high price tag or requires some sort of connection to get in and the academy hosts auditions exclusive to their students that feeds trainees directly into well known agencies). She was trained by the likes of Tony ahn, bae yoon jung and other legends (all their teachers are active choreographers, singers/producers, etc... in the entertainment industry). It was called STAGE631, now rebranded as RedStage Academy.
Guys she can’t dance at all, she always makes mistakes and visibly struggles to keep up at performances. Her singing and rapping is mediocre at best. She also isn’t a visual.

i'm really glad you highlighted how much easier it is for kids who come from wealth to have a leg up in the world-and that's their privilege. their doors for opportunity and learning are much wider than a poor child's. it's unrealistic to push this "chase your dreams" mentality when most people won't be able to achieve the fame and fortune they're selling.

Nepotism is always there in any industry . They receive a leg up in life . For kpop it's still of course there just not as noticeable unless they tell you . What money or connections brings you is training with good instructors before you even go to a company or if they debut already but didn't work out a place to fall back to . It's depending on the individual how they behave , one thing i prefer JYPe is they have many instructors who gives a report every month *with the skills report* along with behaviour 🤔. If you can buff all instructors and JYP himself and his CEO ( or Atleast buy all the instructors ) you kind of have to give to them for their ability , of course JYPe method isn't fool proof but it then to weed out most .

Some entertainment choose child with a great financial background. the main reason is to limit the financial problems to the young idol who cannot reimburse their training if the project is canceled. In addition, Korean society puts people with privileges (beauty, wealth) on an estale footing, so it will be easier for a person to be well seen with an agency. Many people couldn't debut as an idol due to financial reasons. For example, IU was refused at JYP because she was poor (luckily she was able to start in another agency thanks to her talent but not in a big agency) A big agency allows more possibilities and that's why poor people prefer to try their luck there. Nepotism is a problem when a system places more value on their status than on talent.

I’m actually more surprised at some people in the comment section who seem to be surprised about this. As always been a fan of K-pop for like years since I was about 12/13, and I discovered it by accident. I feel like nepotism in the end if she was some thing that was always talked about online they were always people talking about how Hard it is to be a K-pop trainee, but a lot of the Chinese food you survive or make it or the ones that you see never giving up tend to come from either super affluent, chill and rich families so they have the money and the time to be a trainee and not worry about finances and things like that or they got into the industry in the first place because of having connections. I feel like when people forget, is that nepotism doesn’t mean that you’re untalented. What it means is you have a leg up in the competition. It means that unlike some people who might have to give up on their dreams because they have to worry about finances and how they’re going to live how they’re going to make money and be able to train and things you don’t have to worry about that. It’s knowing the right people so you can get the vocal training audience training that is normally super expensive or get into the classes that might have a super long wait list but you get to like cut the head of everyone. Nepotism doesn’t necessarily just mean that they’re on talented and they end up being able to debut or become famous. Nepotism just means that they have 1 foot already halfway in the door before everyone else does. Also, in some cases, we’re not all cases it’s clear to see that nepotism does have a big role in how the company treats some artist. I do think it’s on smart to think that some artists who are clearly well, known rich or have connections aren’t sitting there and getting special treatment whether it’s the companies slightly treating them better allowing for them to have more solo endeavors, etc. whatever. But I feel like that just kind of goes hand-in-hand because I feel like in general with K-pop for years. There’s always been an issue with favoritism in general.

Her aunt is a very influential figure in the korean news and even has ties with the korean president and even lsm whether theyre dating or not… shes very close with giselle as seen from her past tweets and insta posts and it seems she pulled some strings to make her debut. When the rumors of her and LSM broke out and giselle being a nepo baby she literally posted on her insta story, “so what?”☠☠ Im not denying her talent, but think of the other girls who may have sacrificed more than giselle to debut and trained longer just to be replaced by someone who had relations to influential people. I feel like situations like what happened to Sharp are pretty rare instances. The group was basically created for one of the members and her friends. Nepotism wasn’t the problem, her envy was. And I’m pretty sure Tzuyu didn’t use her “connections” in order to debut. Her and Momo were disqualified at first, but ended up debuting anyways. No one knows what changed JYP’s mind, but I don’t think it was anything shady. As Momo most likely doesn’t have any “connections”, why was she put back in the group in the end? I think JYP just saw their potential

Let’s be real ‘less fortunate’ people will view always view Nepo babies in a negative light because it low-key stems from feeling their own personal issues which is understandable. Also I think nepo babies should be looked at case by case instead of generalising them, especially the ones who are self aware and humble about their privilege. People can't help who their parents are. Neither can they help their skin color, sex organs or facial features. So it seems unfair to say 'you only got this due to your parents' if the person puts in hard work on their own and really works for it. So what if their parents were singers/actors/performers? Talents are often genetic. It becomes problematic if they only got there due to nepotism. But if they genuinely put in hard work, I don't see a problem with it.
If you put your statement the other way, it’s even more unfair. People can’t help who their parents are, so it seems unfair to say people with established connections and privilege got there through hard work, so everybody who didn’t just didn’t work hard enough? Løren actually signed with 88rising, and does not promote under Fire Exit Recørds anymore. Yes he's still under the black label, but he hasn't written anything for yg artists since 2020. He's a very independent artist and he doesn't really associate himself with his dad or Naver. He got so much hate bc of his dad. Kinda unfair that he's being identified as a nepo baby when he's just trying to pursue his dreams. Talented nepos exist... a lot of the time its because theyre nepo babies that they managed to become so talented in the first place because they were given the space & opportunities to improve. Unlike millions of other ppl who may have the same dreams and even be more talented but cannot pursue their dreams due to circumstance. THAT is the issue being addressed with the influx of nepos FINALLY be ing recognised as nepos. The criticism is of the system, not necessarily all those who benefit from it because, at the end of the day, the aim isnt to make it more difficult for nepos to succeed in the entertainment industry - but to make it easier for underprivileged but talented people to succeed in the industry.
I think what many Nepo babies don't understand is that no one is saying they aren't talented. No one is going to say that Miley Cyrus cannot sing, Nicolas cage is a bad actor or Sofia Coppola doesn't know how to direct a movie etc etc. People are just asking them to acknowledge that yes they have a big, gigantic advantage in that industry. Idk a really successful Nepo baby that isnt actually talented (meaning the ones that not only famous bc of social media or bc they starred in a karate movie when they were little). At the end of the day, the public will mainly decide on who is deserving to be successful and who is not. But Nepo babies have the opportunity to get to a place where they are being judged very much easier than a basic person.
Aside from it, it is not fair for middle-class people, big companies have high training fees which would take an idol their half career time to pay back and so rich kids take the majority of places as trainees there. Like I have rarely seen any poor idol in the past debuting from the Big 3. And you can certainly not deny the pretty privilege like much Korean singing shows for common folks show us talented people out there who can't debut because of money problems or not fitting KBS even though they can outsing half the idols active rn.
Some nepo idols are genuinely talented, some inherit talent from parents or are talented(btob sungjae). But some are mean entitled too and talentless.(in cases like sharp)..and it's not fair to trainees who are cut and should get trainees with real talent

I don't mind nepo-babies when they're talented. Also, considering how critical Knetz are, being a nepo-baby doesn't mean a thing. If you're unliked for some reason, Knetz will tear you down no matter your connections or your background. So being a nepo-baby means almost nothing. Yeah, rich idols in process have money for lessons and vocal/dance teachers but when they debut, none of it matters. If they're unlikable or untalented, they won't be favored by the public. Which means less exposure, bad media for their group, loss of popularity, album sales, concerts, opportunities. So yeah, nepotism in the K-pop can give you a start (for ex. make you debut) but from then on is the same sh*t show for everyone involved no matter the background. Edit: Also, if the child has skills and talent, I don't see a problem with his parents helping him with connections and resources. Today the work environment not only in K-pop but in every other field is very competitive. Nepo babies in kpop are never treated better by the company or fans unless they are very pretty and have a good personality. Just look at all the examples of the nepo babies that this video mentioned, very few of them were most popular in their group, so there is some consolation for at least in the kpop industry, having a good connection won't get you that far unless you have the talent to back it up.

It's not just on the fact that they are liked by the public, it's really because we already know that to be a kpop idol you have to bust your ass off and sacrifice so much of your life for your dream. One thing that is usually overlooked when discussing the issue of nepotism in the entertainment industry is the somehow inevitable fact that since one was brought up in the industry, they would probably be inspired to enter the same field. For example, if one is a child of a director or an actor or an entertainer, they probably grew up seeing them at work, on set, and in real life as their parents' colleagues or circle of friends. It won't be very far-fetched that you would want to try to be in that field as well. They can be inspired to pursue the same career path.
I agree that they would be at an advantage, having one foot inside the door, so to speak. But they still have to do the hard work in order to succeed. It may be an easy entry, but longevity is the ultimate test. I would take the case of Will Smith and his kids. It's like no matter how hard they try, they just can't have their career skyrocket and instead they always end up like jokes. On the other side of the argument, we have Angelina Jolie, who is the daughter of Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, both famous actors. We cannot deny that Angelina is one of the best actresses there is, even from her earliest movies like "Girl, Interrupted". Not a lot of people back then know who her parents were, especially because she and her father were estranged for a really long time.
And just because they have famous, rich parents in the industry doesn't mean these people didn't work hard for their dreams. To be honest, I don't have that much problems with so-called nepo babies as long as they didn't use their family's connections to get into the field and if they are indeed talented. It is also unfair to those who work hard and just happened to been born to a family of say, artists, etc.

She did almost a year of training with an agency, but went to a well known training academy for idols prior (known for its ridiculously high price tag or requires some sort of connection to get in and the academy hosts auditions exclusive to their students that feeds trainees directly into well known agencies). She was trained by the likes of Tony ahn, bae yoon jung and other legends (all their teachers are active choreographers, singers/producers, etc... in the entertainment industry). It was called STAGE631, now rebranded as RedStage Academy.
Guys she can’t dance at all, she always makes mistakes and visibly struggles to keep up at performances. Her singing and rapping is mediocre at best. She also isn’t a visual.

Nepotism is always there in any industry . They receive a leg up in life . For kpop it's still of course there just not as noticeable unless they tell you . What money or connections brings you is training with good instructors before you even go to a company or if they debut already but didn't work out a place to fall back to . It's depending on the individual how they behave , one thing i prefer JYPe is they have many instructors who gives a report every month *with the skills report* along with behaviour 🤔. If you can buff all instructors and JYP himself and his CEO ( or Atleast buy all the instructors ) you kind of have to give to them for their ability , of course JYPe method isn't fool proof but it then to weed out most .

Some entertainment choose child with a great financial background. the main reason is to limit the financial problems to the young idol who cannot reimburse their training if the project is canceled. In addition, Korean society puts people with privileges (beauty, wealth) on an estale footing, so it will be easier for a person to be well seen with an agency. Many people couldn't debut as an idol due to financial reasons. For example, IU was refused at JYP because she was poor (luckily she was able to start in another agency thanks to her talent but not in a big agency) A big agency allows more possibilities and that's why poor people prefer to try their luck there. Nepotism is a problem when a system places more value on their status than on talent.

I’m actually more surprised at some people in the comment section who seem to be surprised about this. As always been a fan of K-pop for like years since I was about 12/13, and I discovered it by accident. I feel like nepotism in the end if she was some thing that was always talked about online they were always people talking about how Hard it is to be a K-pop trainee, but a lot of the Chinese food you survive or make it or the ones that you see never giving up tend to come from either super affluent, chill and rich families so they have the money and the time to be a trainee and not worry about finances and things like that or they got into the industry in the first place because of having connections.
I feel like when people forget, is that nepotism doesn’t mean that you’re untalented. What it means is you have a leg up in the competition. It means that unlike some people who might have to give up on their dreams because they have to worry about finances and how they’re going to live how they’re going to make money and be able to train and things you don’t have to worry about that. It’s knowing the right people so you can get the vocal training audience training that is normally super expensive or get into the classes that might have a super long wait list but you get to like cut the head of everyone. Nepotism doesn’t necessarily just mean that they’re on talented and they end up being able to debut or become famous. Nepotism just means that they have 1 foot already halfway in the door before everyone else does.
Also, in some cases, we’re not all cases it’s clear to see that nepotism does have a big role in how the company treats some artist. I do think it’s on smart to think that some artists who are clearly well, known rich or have connections aren’t sitting there and getting special treatment whether it’s the companies slightly treating them better allowing for them to have more solo endeavors, etc. whatever. But I feel like that just kind of goes hand-in-hand because I feel like in general with K-pop for years. There’s always been an issue with favoritism in general.

I feel like situations like what happened to Sharp are pretty rare instances. The group was basically created for one of the members and her friends. Nepotism wasn’t the problem, her envy was. And I’m pretty sure Tzuyu didn’t use her “connections” in order to debut. Her and Momo were disqualified at first, but ended up debuting anyways. No one knows what changed JYP’s mind, but I don’t think it was anything shady. As Momo most likely doesn’t have any “connections”, why was she put back in the group in the end? People can't help who their parents are. Neither can they help their skin color, sex organs or facial features. So it seems unfair to say 'you only got this due to your parents' if the person puts in hard work on their own and really works for it. So what if their parents were singers/actors/performers? Talents are often genetic. It becomes problematic if they only got there due to nepotism. But if they genuinely put in hard work, I don't see a problem with it.

Talented nepos exist... a lot of the time its because theyre nepo babies that they managed to become so talented in the first place because they were given the space & opportunities to improve. Unlike millions of other ppl who may have the same dreams and even be more talented but cannot pursue their dreams due to circumstance. THAT is the issue being addressed with the influx of nepos FINALLY be ing recognised as nepos. The criticism is of the system, not necessarily all those who benefit from it because, at the end of the day, the aim isnt to make it more difficult for nepos to succeed in the entertainment industry - but to make it easier for underprivileged but talented people to succeed in the industry.

I think what many Nepo babies don't understand is that no one is saying they aren't talented. No one is going to say that Miley Cyrus cannot sing, Nicolas cage is a bad actor or Sofia Coppola doesn't know how to direct a movie etc etc.
People are just asking them to acknowledge that yes they have a big, gigantic advantage in that industry. Idk a really successful Nepo baby that isnt actually talented (meaning the ones that not only famous bc of social media or bc they starred in a karate movie when they were little). At the end of the day, the public will mainly decide on who is deserving to be successful and who is not. But Nepo babies have the opportunity to get to a place where they are being judged very much easier than a basic person.
Aside from it, it is not fair for middle-class people, big companies have high training fees which would take an idol their half career time to pay back and so rich kids take the majority of places as trainees there. Like I have rarely seen any poor idol in the past debuting from the Big 3.
And you can certainly not deny the pretty privilege like much Korean singing shows for common folks show us talented people out there who can't debut because of money problems or not fitting KBS even though they can outsing half the idols active rn.

I don't mind nepo-babies when they're talented. Also, considering how critical Knetz are, being a nepo-baby doesn't mean a thing. If you're unliked for some reason, Knetz will tear you down no matter your connections or your background. So being a nepo-baby means almost nothing. Yeah, rich idols in process have money for lessons and vocal/dance teachers but when they debut, none of it matters. If they're unlikable or untalented, they won't be favored by the public. Which means less exposure, bad media for their group, loss of popularity, album sales, concerts, opportunities. So yeah, nepotism in the K-pop can give you a start (for ex. make you debut) but from then on is the same sh*t show for everyone involved no matter the background.
Edit: Also, if the child has skills and talent, I don't see a problem with his parents helping him with connections and resources. Today the work environment not only in K-pop but in every other field is very competitive. I don't find it problematic when young people are receiving help with the start of their career when they have the education, the skills and the knowledge that is required for the job. In fact, I'm happy for them

It's not technically wrong to use your families' connections to get ahead in life, but it is wrong to act like you did it all on your own and that you earned everything you have by your own sheer force. I don't know how k-pop nepo babies go about it, but Western nepo babies almost never acknowledge just how much help they had and how privileged they are. You can acknowledge your privilege without it undervaluing your hard work, but I feel like when they don't it instead devalues it. Just acknowledge it and move on. The fact that people would even hate or side eye anyone just because of who their family is, is sad. If they're talented, cool, they'll earn fans love but if they aren't, then just don't be a fan and love your life. Some people really just love making up reasons to hate on others. Usually it’s because they would get better treatment. There are tons of stories that have ex kpop stars exposing how differently trainees are treated sometimes
