I never understood the obsession with wanting to look unhealthy. Korea is the same way. They haven't realized yet that being too skinny is not attractive. Especially in the face and legs.

I’m sorry to learn that China has been so very badly influenced by America’s Hollywood. Being skeletal is not attractive at all to me and is a terrible sign of rich privilege. As is plastic surgery. Zhao Lusi has absolutely ruined her looks. I think having a bump on your nose, or a nose that’s wide is an understandable cosmetic change. But it’s just so “Western country” to take it too far which some of the actors and actresses have obviously done. One of the things I love most about Chinese historical dramas are all ages being participants. Grandparents, parents, children, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I just love that and these reasons are why I don’t watch movies from the West and haven’t for at least ten years.
Everyone just looks the same. They all have the same body type, same surgeries done, it becomes even more eerie in period dramas where everyone is dressed in the same style of clothing, all the men and women look like clones of each other with slightly differences to their faces and different clothing color
Anorexic look, plastic surgery, bullying and harassment are probably common toxic traits in showbiz everywhere, be it China, Korea or Hollywood. It's just that the banning and silencing of artists in China is extremely disturbing.
Every culture has its moral universe, its values and its own checks and balances on people's behaviors. Westerners are typically not equipped to judge a society as different to their own as China.
@@MsLuathI am ethically Chinese although I grew up in a more open society (still in Asia though). I find the silencing of artists in China disturbing. Once someone in power has a beef with you, they have the power to silence you completely. They can cook up an excuse, buy some marketing accounts to blow the issue up, and BAM! You disappear without a chance to defend yourself. Guilty until proven innocent, except you don’t even have the chance to do that.
I absolutely love the actress Dilraba Dilmurat, it’s shocking to think that at age 32 she’s considered too old in the industry. You can tell she’s trying to say relevant by becoming extremely skinny, it makes me so sad. She’s worryingly thin now..
Reba is so much cuter with chubby cheeks. Plus she looks hotter with her natural curves. She’s still working even though she’s sick. She can’t take long break because she’ll be plagued with pregnancy rumors again. *sighs*
I am 100% PROUD to be an African - from Nigeria. In my country's entertainment industry (Nollywood), we have ALL sizes and shapes of artists - it doesn't matter how FAT or Slim you wanna be - just be a good actor, and leave the rest for us. We LOVE our artist (the way God created them). You can check Nollywood movies on youtube here to see what am telling you. No beauty standard. No pressure. In fact, we DON'T ENCOURAGE plastic surgery at all, but if you, as an artist, decide to do it - that's your business! All this body shaming and obnoxious beauty standards the Asian peninsula is setting up for their artist is SAD indeed. Every artist are looking soooooooooooooooooooooooooo plastic, you don't even know whose feature is natural. I cry for them, seriously. Just to make it above average, somebody's peace is taken away???? Chai! God have mercy, really
And we Nigerians are still prettier them. I haven't seen any Chinese actress thats prettier than me. They just look very petite and white. No charm at all except for Liu Yifei she's just gorgeous
I first saw him in TteotM and though he was thin, I thought it was a choice for the role as TTJ was abused since childhood and never had enough to eat, barely surviving. (also it wasn't bothering Mr as much cause the glamorous clothes kinda hide his thinness) but when you watch him in a modern lens, I'm overcome with the need to feed him home-cooked meals. 😮
I recently watched the original Chinese Scarlet Heart from 2011. It’s shocking, because the actress was absolutely STUNNING and looked naturally beautiful with occasionally some acne. She was an amazing actress as well and the male leads looked like normal men. It made me sad to see that and to them compare it to Chinese drama’s now. It makes you think what happened and what went wrong? Now they’re stick-thin, did loads of plastic surgery, paid off the producers to get a role and can’t even act well. Not to mention the absolute crazy fans
I'm really chocked. I was watching Zhao Lusi's previous c-dramas. I absolutely couldn't recognize her in your video. So many change in a sooooo SHORT TIME period ? I can't believe this is her. My jaw is falling right now, she had such an unique beauty, so fresh !!!! It's just... You made a mistake right ? These photos are not from the same person.
Lusi have work done for sure. It is denial to say she have none, like her fan claim. She have a chubby face but more refined now. She should stop doing further work while she still have some original features.
@@annat6249 she has lost heck a lot of weight because she was bullied immensely because of it , she is now 38 kg of course it would reduce the chubbier cheeks..also she does her makeup differently.
We can say all this sad facts about the Chinese fanatics obsession of thier stars being so thin but that's thier culture, they love underweight stars. Its a work hazard for Chinese celebrities but it's thier choice.Yeah I'm criticizing unhealthy underweight hoping they don't suffer from bulimia or anorexia but that's all I can do 😅😅😅😅yeah freedom of speech 😅😅😅

Viewers got used to frail and extremely thin images so they can't really tell what's healthy anymore. Yes, she does look amazingly gorgeous, and very much like an adult female.
I agree. Plump cheeks actually make her look more youthful. It’s unattainable to look very thin and youthful since plumper cheeks is a sign of youth. *Sigh*

Its disgusting for people to criticize other people on their looks. It's called Bullying. I feel 😢 so sorry and worried about all these people. Who have to go through all of this. How can a person just be skin and bones called beautiful. It's a disease that has taken many lives. Yet if they want to be famous. Must endure. And about all that plastic surgery they also do. Do they even remember how they really look? Their whole being is erased. Why would anyone change their heritage? They should be proud if being Asian. Having slant eyes, round face. Why do they want to look Caucasian? For the love of me. I just don't understand it. We all look different. Why would you want to look like someone else? Be proud of your heritage. All those who have taken away your identity. I'm sure aren't doing it themselves.
I sometimes feel sorry for the those in the entertainment industry in China. If they are In China if they are slim, they are called fat if they are like skeleton are names and the body shaming is awful. The celebrities are seriously under a lot of pressure. Long Danni derogatory words became a driving force that motivated Xiao Zhan to become whom he is today. Sometimes our nasty experiences can become Golden Armour that propel us to new height.
And nobody can deny the fact that Xiao Zhan is an excellent actor and singer who always does his utmost when performing like the true super star he is.
the thing is luo yunxi actually tries whatever it takes to gain weight. he's one of those rare people who just cant seem to gain weight. and he hates it coz everyone mocks him for his slimness....

The fans and public have a bloody cheek though. How can you comment on someone's imperfect looks or conduct when you yourself aren't even perfect. I think the industry gives them way too much power
I don't think this is a problem in the entertainment industry. It is a society problem when anybody can make these deroctory comments on whoever they want, even nabours, and its normal. Also there is too much power in the netizens words. In the end all actors will look the same after plastic operations. And what anoy me the most is, that theese famous people are not aloud to have a private life. They have already given away a good part of that, so let them keep what little is left
When I became ill I lost heaps of weight, looking as thin as some of those actresses. The most noticeable loss was in my breasts and buttocks which holds natural fatty tissue. I am healthy now with a healthy weight, but from lack of nutrients suffer from various ailments arthritus and chalky bone density, now a grandmother even though active mowing & gardening etc, things are becoming difficult and painful. Which makes me wonder how their bodies and bones will be when they are my age with all that extreme dieting and weight loss, most likely with little nutients. God help them if ever they want children I don't think their bodies would sustain childbirth.😮
The lady who appeared at the luxury event is the most beautiful, elegant, charming and adorable among other lady in this video. All other ladies are beauty by force.
I'm so proud of Faye Wing for not minding her words and just giving such a straight answer. It wasn't rude or spicy, just direct and matter of fact. 👑👑👑👑
I still remember the first time I saw zhao lusi at an event wearing blue/green dress, she is very thin (in my opinion) but then I found that there are a lot of comments from other "human" saying she's fat.. I'm saying "human" Because how can you say that to another human being, saying that she's overweight?! When she's literally 1000% underweight. If you saw her in real life, you'll realize how slim she is. I just hope that she has a healthy lifestyle and always eat a good food. ❤
I read one day that a famous actress eat less when she have her period, because she's afraid of the increase of his weight at this moment 😢 So much pressure for all of them
What?! They need to get their eyes fixed. they are seeing the world through the eyes of filter. It distort their perception of beauty. Uncanny valley look is getting more popular because of those darn beauty filters. 😩

Yes, you're right and it cannot be denied that every parents in China wanted their sons and daughters to become a celebrity and be in the Chinese Entertainment Industry --- just because of money and more money. Money is the god of the Chinese people.
It's a shame that the actors/actresses of China has a very strict criteria 2 stay in shape & under weight. What happened 2 compassion, respect & well-being & most of all enjoying life. China does have some orsum actors e.g Jackie Chan; he doesn't look under weight but 2 ALL actors/actresses thank u 4 blessing my phone, tv screens with your lives. Whether it b as a band member of your kpop idols, kdramas, historical movies, comedies. Thank u all. 😁💖🥰
It's crazy to me how a married woman can get physically harassed in such an insidious, yet vile way on stage, by her peer, in front of everyone and yet nobody does anything. It makes me really angry and sad. Nobody should stand for this kind of behavior, regardless of who is doing it and who it is done to.
Other people who thought being an actor or actress is easy but that can't be further from the truth, the abuse and harassment that happens behind the scenes is so toxic and harsh it creates this environment this expectation to be perfect all the time it' s truly horrifying, and seeing kids grow insecure and grow to hate themselves slowly is unbearable but unfortunately nobody does anything and if you try you will most likely be removed immediately because in this world money is the most important thing in this corrupt world and for some reason money a piece of paper is worth more than a human being's health. (disclaimer I am not saying every single acting company in the world is evil and toxic, for acting can be fun and enjoyable, I am saying this message to warn you of the awful companies who decrease a person's life and worth, making them feel meaningless and worth nothing) If you read this far thanks as a bonus here is a cookie, 🍪 have an amazing day further and please don't hate yourself or feel insecure no human can be perfect.
I'm 163 cm and 44 kg, underweight but i eat everything that i want. Knowing by body, I don't have that much strength. So how these celebs that skinnier than me handle all those flights, schedules, gyms etc and only eating salad? How?
It's kinda sad that the obsession of beauty standard to be skinny and under 50 kg no matter how your height, makes the girls neck already looks wrinkly (bcs not much fat) even before the age 30. It's unhealthy & not pretty.
I watched some Chinese shorts, dude the degradation of women is really horrible in china, even they did not spared children, children abuse was shown as something forgivable 😡
I as a person who read novels and most novels are Chinese novels i have read about the actresses novels and those ladies pass through a lot.... Some have to sleep with big managers to obtain roles and even some famous actors force the infamous actresses to drink with them where they are drugged.... In reality acting in the whole continent is a dirty game which you have to play dirty in order to survive its the land of survivor where the strongest wins and if not then have that influential family or rich enough to support yourself over bulling or any problem coming your way
The other day i watched the cast of THE DOUBLE on Hello Saturday. The ML, Duke Su irl Wang Xing Yue had a bite during the show. Then afterwards, he took a photo with the FL, Xu Fang Fei irl Wu Jin Yan. When they came out, he told her that he looked swollen and fat like a pig, saying that had gained weight. Before that, he said that he wasn't confident in his body. I was literally so broken because bro couldn't look more perfect than he already was!!
I don’t believe that the 171 cm girl is actually 40 kg. She might have a weight in kg that starts with the number 4, but look up “171 cm 40 kg” on Google images and you realize that if that were true she would look like a literal walking skeleton to the degree that she probably would no longer be an actress getting work
They have to brace themselves and face harsh diversity, pampered fans, mixed intense comments from netizens viewers, have to look fresh, slim, no privacy, careful of diet, loss of proper sleep time, out on a show in public like dressing and behaviour and lots more! Thankyou 谢谢 for being out there for us...Directors Producers, Actors Actresses, Screenwriters, crew, etc etc 🙏👌
It may come as a shock to some people, but the cherry blossom park around Yasukuni Shrine is a world famous tourist spot, one that is even recommended by Chinese guide books. Zhang Zhehan visited the cherry blossom park, NOT the shrine. I guess there is a double standard for celebrities. An ordinary person can take photos with the cherry blossoms, but not a celebrity. 🙄 And the Baidu (Chinese wikipedia) entry for Mrs. Dewi was amended one day before the attack on Zhang Zhehan began. Did she really deny the Nanjing Massacre? Or was it something that his enemies want everyone to believe?
What?!! Most of Hollywood is on Ozempic, and even teenagers are getting Botox and other fillers. The quest for eternal youth and beauty is alive and well in Hollywood.
Deng Wei in all his dramas he looks like a innocent gentleman quite different from real life . It shows his good acting skill he is a capable actor after watching his previous photos his cute innocent face flashed in my mind like his crying face too. ( No hate I like him too ) But scratching nose is a normal human behaviour it's normal there shouldn't be any discussion about that
I know I was watching the love between the fairy and the dragon when it came to a time skip. One of the characters was soooo skinny after seeing her looking decent and healthy in the earlier beginning of the drama. I was shocked as her body looked so bonnie and unhealthy, which made the outfit she was wearing not look good on her. It is just so sad to see things like this and their health and mental state on the line.
In drama series, china govt so strict as well as the viewers whereas in South Korea, the govt gave full independence to the producers/directors and only viewers can criticized
Most look like skeletons with skin on them....such a shame they feel they have to go that far ....as for the so called fans....some nasty people over there.....
In reality, these talented people have to face pressures in the artistic environment and a rather toxic society which, like other societies within Asia, adds to all these absurd demands. These artists should be highly valued for their effort and enormous capacity, just as they are. A real shame.😞💖
The fact that they want women even tall women are out of the picture they use to be popular like dilraba dilmurat she has a perfect build for her highet yet they want more shorter women at 5.2 to 5.4 if you above those you better not be over 45 to 48kg its ridiculous if a woman around 5.7 to 5.9 to weigh 48 kg they should be around be around 55 to 62kg at least
The information about Zhang Zhehan in this video is incorrect. He never went to that shrine. That's a building in the background as they were taking tourist pics with the blossoms as the backdrop. Also, that lady was married to the guy who was friendly to China. In his case, none of that was true. They lied about all of that.
I feel South Asian actors and actresses are better in terms of physique compared to East Asian actors and actresses also middle east are better. I feel Americans are pretty much good too.
2:54 he's one of my more liked, well one of my favorite Chinese actors but I had seen an image of him from a movie he was filming he was I believe suppose to be a fire fighter and I became so concerned and worried when I saw how thin his waist was and how baggy the clothes fit him, that shouldn't be, I just wish they wouldn't push such toxic beauty standereds on the men to just let them be men and let them eat Men unlike us women need a lot more protines and calories to be able to function on a healthy level and being that thin as a man is very dangerous to ones health , he's a very handsome man alredy he doesn't have to or need to be so thin and feminine looking and it makes them look very unhealthy to be so thin :0
I'm really enjoying your channel so far, since English-language info about Chinese stars is hard to find! However, I do hope you'll take some time to learn how to pronounce the stars' names, at least somewhat. I know Chinese pronunciation is hard, since it includes tones, but I don't even think getting the right tones would be necessary for an English speaking audience - getting the sounds down would be enough. There are multiple interactive pinyin charts out there that can help - yoyo Chinese has a good free one you can use. It's just that when you don't know how to pronounce a sound - such as "qi" or "si" - it becomes completely unrecognizable for those who do know how it's supposed to be pronounced. Had it not been for the names written on the screen, there were times when I wouldn't have had a clue what name you were trying to say, since you said it so differently than its actual pronunciation. But otherwise, I'm really enjoying your channel - keep up the good work!
This is why it has become hard to watch Cdrama recently. I remember the days of "Princess Weiyoung" and other notable dramas like "Empress Wu" where the actor's weight and figure were natural and healthy. Although the female actresses in these dramas were skinny, it wasn't to the point it is today. Nowadays it's hard to watch the actors do any physical activity without feeling concerned about their wellbeing. Also, it's hard to immerse yourself into the storyline when the male lead is supposed to be a battle-hardened and tough warrior who is unbeatable and the actor looks like he would be blown away by the wind. In so many instances the male leads are fighting and they are supposed to be strong it is so hard to believe. They need to allow these men to have a healthy diet with good nutrition and exercise that would allow them to build a good muscle-to-fat ratio so that they can build the strength to actually princess-carry their female counterparts without the help of stools and camera gimmicks. Where being buff and muscular is becoming more popular among the rest of the world and even in Korea and other East Asian countries it feels like China is really taking several steps back. This can be said for female leads too. they are skinny beyond reason. I'm genuinely concerned about how they are even functioning at this point.
It makes me sick to my stomach that being emaciated is considered beautiful, by the world which is just sad. I don't understand how anyone can hate someone so much that they want to force them to become so emaciated, through the degusting practice of body shaming that they pass away, at an early age from severe malnutrition. Including humiliating someone to the point of forcing them into extremely dangerous and life-threatening plastic surgical procedures that can deform them for life. - I'm extremely degusted by this anti-social, toxic body image shaming behavior, it is appalling.
I'll be honest, growing up i watch mostly hong kong movie and etc(before all the handover problem) it was fun and entertaining,i bet anything hong kong movie in the 80s 90s and early 2000 was awesome, not so much now,i try watching main land China movie and etc but it's just not the same and boring
Let's quote your own lines; "her facial features have become more refined". By acknowledged her refined improvement you said it yourself. It's this the reason she allegedly made surgery. To survive in an industry based on beauty and appearance made for our pleasure.
Sad commentary of these talented individuals and how this industry puts them at risk of eating disorder and plastic surgery disillusionment. They should be enjoyed for their talent and performance.
That used to be the case before the rise of idols around the 2000s when the Korean wave hit China. So many youngsters went to skorea for pop star training and the idol look got transplanted when they returned to China .
Depends. It's usually male actor that has a lot of historical drama are required to stay thin because with all those layers of clothings they looks better when they're thinner
This is so true and sad to see ;-; While unhealthy "beauty standards" like this exist everywhere, this seems especially contradictory to the whole "ideal man" thing the country seems so strict on upholding. (Also, this is minor but I noticed it showed Cheng Yi briefly in the beginning. While he has a small frame, I think he's actually kind of built. He just doesn't show it off but you can probably find footage)
Some actors and actress are just skin and bones, they are are freaking underweight . A balanced amount of fat enhances features , people need to understand that .
I find it weird actually, that actors do plastic surgery, especially the nose and such. If your craft, is, in fact, your facial expressions, a.k.a. ACTING, why would you damage the face features that enables ULTIMATE range of expression? Or are we putting on an ancient roman mask play here, were the mask only has one "mass-wise petrified" state of expression? People dont consider that the face becomes stiffer, I guess. Dont they even "cut off" the function of some face muscles when they do nose surgery ? I think beauty is subjective though. I wont diss people who do plastic surgery, though, do what you want. Im not gonna say who, but some girls looked cuter WITHOUT the surgery. But thats MY taste. Each to their own. But I feel like we are getting carried away with this.
These days it's not a surprise what these actors have to go thru to maintain a top position in the entertainment field. It seems like one step out of place can cause damage to their career which is very sad because a lot of good actors aren't free to be themselves, or have relationships without a lot of scrutiny mainly it seems by reporters and the public. It seems like this and other things follow the long road to stardom which of course I won't go into. If I have offended please accept my apologies

Too old yet she looks younger and more beautiful than some of the young actresses.
I don't like to see them too thin it's not natural
Yea. Looks sickly...
Not good looking
And they end up looking the same eventually. It's sad.
And we Nigerians are still prettier them. I haven't seen any Chinese actress thats prettier than me. They just look very petite and white. No charm at all except for Liu Yifei she's just gorgeous
@Thinkingofname ...hahahaha ...you remind me of G.O.A.T Muhammad Ali...he was the most handsome and handsome that I have ever seen
Doesn’t Nigeria have a preference for slim thick queens though?
Your actresses bleach way too much so there's no difference
Alot of the actors and actresses are very thin. It doesn't look healthy.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I wonder too thinness is Gold to them😂
Luo yunxi looks sooo thin. I can’t watch any of his dramas because it bothers me
😔😔😔
Same here. Unfortunately, he just looks so anorexic and unappealing.
same with me
I think he is naturally thin though. Maybe not this thin but the workload probably makes it worse
💯
I'm really chocked. I was watching Zhao Lusi's previous c-dramas. I absolutely couldn't recognize her in your video. So many change in a sooooo SHORT TIME period ? I can't believe this is her. My jaw is falling right now, she had such an unique beauty, so fresh !!!! It's just... You made a mistake right ? These photos are not from the same person.
Yes it's her 😅
She has been doing dramas back to back tell when did she have time to all this , such bs 😂

I remember when my weight 42 with 150 tall... My father keep telling me that i look like skeleton. 😅
Im 160cm and 43kg. Im petite and doing the best I can to gain more weight. I cant believe these actresses are tall and 40kg only????like what the hell....
I'm 1:63 and weight 43kg lol is normal by genetics
Liu Yifei looks great, not fat at all. She actually looks healthy
😍
Viewers got used to frail and extremely thin images so they can't really tell what's healthy anymore.
Yes, she does look amazingly gorgeous, and very much like an adult female.
She's the prettiest Chinese actress have ever seen and looks really healthy too. Those Chinese actors and actresses life most be horrible. How sad

It's easy to be lost in this cruel place...But some remain sane though like Crystal Liu...
I sometimes feel sorry for the those in the entertainment industry in China. If they are In China if they are slim, they are called fat if they are like skeleton are names and the body shaming is awful. The celebrities are seriously under a lot of pressure.

It's crazy to me how a married woman can get physically harassed in such an insidious, yet vile way on stage, by her peer, in front of everyone and yet nobody does anything. It may come as a shock to some people, but the cherry blossom park around Yasukuni Shrine is a world famous tourist spot, one that is even recommended by Chinese guide books.

If thats how the females are treated on screen imagine how badly theyre treated off screen.

It makes me sick to my stomach that being emaciated is considered beautiful, by the world which is just sad. Including humiliating someone to the point of forcing them into extremely dangerous and life-threatening plastic surgical procedures that can deform them for life. - I'm extremely degusted by this anti-social, toxic body image shaming behavior, it is appalling.
