Lyrics:
I was lost on an endless sea
Going down, going down, going down on an endless sea
Sail with the wind, you weather the storm
You bring it all home, bring it all home, you bring it all home
I was free in the dead of night
I want you, I want you, I want you in the dead of night
Give me your love, I'll sing you my blues
I bring it all home, bring it all home, I bring it all home
I was blind in the light of day
I need you, I need you, I need you in the light of day
I still won't let go, hang on to this pride
I bring it all home, bring it all home, I bring it all home
I was lost on an endless sea
Going down, going down, going down on an endless sea
Think to yourself as you're laughing it off
Bring it all home, bring it all home, bring it all home
Yeah you think to yourself as you're laughing it off
Bring it all home, bring it all home, bring it all home

It was among the videos that were the first to play on the newly-fledged MTV in the autumn of '81.
yeah
This was one of the very first 7"s I bought as a kid! Still love it.
WHAT BEAUTYFUL SONG IS THIS
"Snakes and Ladders" is my favourite Gerry Rafferty album not a bad track on it.
Wow first time I have ever seen this and it's criminal that it was never player on Top of The Pops but I loved the last 70s/early 80s as not only for the music but for the animation as well.
This clip is a masterpiece.
yes
...My Goodness ... thank you for posting! ... I have been looking for this original video / song for over 30 years!! ... I was around 12 years of age when I seen this on tv back around 1980/81. ..I have never seen this since until now. thank you so much!
Neil Vance I had the same darn problem for about as long!
Neil Vance Tell me about it....I saw this video on MTV back in 1980/81 and just fell in love with it...Never heard again ever since (almost forgot it ever even existed), this brings back so many memories!
Neil Vance, I was around the same age at the time. My family had just bought cable and I spent a lot of time watching MTV. I remember there being a lot of really interesting videos at that time. Not always great production values, but interesting ideas and stories. A couple of years later I remember the production getting more professional, but a lot of the videos themselves became more boring (a lot of hair metal bands-band on stage, flash to girl, flash back to band, flash to car, back to the band, flash to girl on a car, etc...).
Same here! And trying to explain to someone a video I only saw once! " it's a train floating through a futuristic city!' Hahaha
Probably the least commercial record on S&L and Gerry released it as a single, that was Gerry all over.
Surprised The Garden of England wasn't a single from it, that was epic.
Night Owl was decent follow up to city to city but did not had the success of city to city. the sad part was that the single for night owl get it right next time didn't get much airplay. they could have picked a better song for a single. snake and latter had 2 strange tracks "welcome to hollywood" & "Cafe Le Cabotin". the most of the album is a bit more bluesy then then his last 2 albums. Sleepwalking had some interesting stuff too. I think bring it on home was a decent track but sadly people began to forget GR after Night Owl didn't caught on.
@@chrisstory563 this track has a sax solo, thats why it was picked as a single. Gerrys trademark.
This might be my favorite track from "Snakes and Ladders," and it was a rollicking way to end side 1 of the record.
Whole album is excellent! Not a bad! song
nice sax!
Damn! I haven't seen this video in 30+ years!!
Un géant de la musique....
GERRY RAFFERTY № 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Video number 56 on MTV August amazing animation style for the Video sweet song tho he did not your normal ones showing the Artist and Backup Band but another nice pic on that MTV countdown and to be blessed and part of the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s

I love Gerry Rafferty. But! Baker Street was an epic. It’s a pity that that didn’t happen a bit later. Night Owl came close but there we are. Love his music. Have all, I think, of his albums. Haven’t seen any that I haven’t got. Fantastic musician. And songwriter. But! Baker Street will always be my favourite.
I'm getting a distinct Jerry Cornelius vibe from this clip. Can't really explain why.
I believe this was the first fully animated music video I ever saw on MTV back in the day. Very interesting, this was about the time of the Heavy Metal movie, and the animated style seemed very similar.
it was also one of the first 100 videos ever played on mtv
I found it again after 30 odd years
Yeyey
😛🤪😛☝️☝️🙄🙄😛😛
Reminds me of (some) of the animation in "Heavy Metal" which came out about the same time.
Lonely in That London?
cool
The animation in this video reminds me of the animation in the video for "Don't Answer Me" by the Alan Parsons Project. Does anyone know if it is the same animator?
I asked the same thing and in the same way 15 days ago,i suppose nobody knows it 😉
Can someone tell me who is the creator of the video clip?very alike to Alan Parsons and Pink Floyd's videoclips, could be the same designer?
Excellent track , should have been a hit. The version on the album and the single release (included on his 1995 best of) do sound like different takes.
the one on "the right down the line the best of gerry rafftery" was somewhat remixed. that compilation had a slightly remixed version of baker street and whatever writen in your heart.
@@chrisstory563 Thats right, and the album also has the single version of Night Owl (which i actually prefer). At the end of the Snakes and Ladders Bring It All Home you can hear saxaphonist Raphael Ravenscroft saying "One more for the book!?" and Gerry replying " What's that you said Raf?"
@@DCHurlford1 I do not like the single versio of night owl because it shorten the intro and removes the thirst verse of the song. the album version is much much better. one the later compilation had the album version and here is what strange. itune tune for some weird reason decent to switch out the album version of night owl to the single version when you buy the track from the night owl album. I was lucky enough to have the album version before they switched it. they did the same stupid thing with the first 2 firefall albumw
@EricBBrandon1 EXACTLY ! !. im single myself. but am a patiend man
Re,
