    I have always loved True Crime books and shows. America’s most wanted and Unsolved Mysteries were my favorite shows as a kid. I have such admiration for police and investigators. You’re not alone!

    Beautiful soap! You can also add dry TD to the lye solution before adding to the oils. I do this when I want really white soap (lots of TD) without the acceleration that I experience when adding it to the batter at emulsion/trace, or if I want pastel colors in the final bar (a small amount of TD to lighten the base before I split off for colors).
    I am another of those “weird” people who are fascinated by true crime, the people who commit crimes, and the people who use logic and experience to catch them.

    • @futureprimitivesoap
      @futureprimitivesoap  6 лет назад

      That's a great idea. I've never added it to my lye before. Sounds like a good way to get pastels. Thank you! And thanks for watching xx

    I am a total crime TV addict. My kids asked me all the time why I watch that kind of stuff. I like the problem-solving part of it and I like seeing crime cases have closure. The science in forensics is extremely interesting. 🤷‍♀️ clearly there’s a lot of us out there like this or there wouldn’t be a market for crime TV. Awesome video! Soap making with bonus conversation about crime tv. 😁

    Sometimes we make some of our best discoveries when we are in a hurry and forget something. Kudos. I had always been told that mixing the TD with water prevents lumps in the soap. So, l thought what if l sift it, then add like mica? ....... Viola! Worked beautifully and never worry about glycerin river possibilities. I have cheer!

    I love the simplicity of this soap. I stumbled across a podcast called Case File which I listen to while working. There are lots of stories from all over the world. Some I thought were before my time but amazed at how recent they were.

    There are 2 types of td. One is water soluble & the other is both water & oil soluble. Either way, I've predominantly put dry td directly into my batter but it works best when batter is fluid.

    When I started making soap I use to add dry TD to the batter, I would end up with little pieces of TD in my soap. Maybe it's the TD I get. Love the soap & how white it came out. Thanks for sharing.

    I'm like you in the interests in podcasts on true crime cases. I listen to True Crime Brewery a lot and some of their stories are truly horrifying, yet the resolutions have me in awe of those that, as you say, put their lives on the line to catch the perpetrator. They are the real superheroes in our real world. Profilers are gifted people, for sure. That is their superpower. On the matter of this batch, I'm in awe over the fact that this coconut does NOT discolour horrendously! All of the ones I've ever tried always discolour deeply. That is a beautiful, pristine white bar!

    My family thinks I’m crazy for watching these type shows but I LOVE watching the criminal investigators put the clues together and find the culprit. And sometimes one does evade capture forever...... they say I’m paranoid but I say they have their head in the sand. It keeps us aware of the dangers and maybe will help us see/ recognize danger.

    Ignore those stupid comments Tiggy! Angry people love to use the internet as a mask they can hide behind to take potshots at strangers. Then they move on and I seriously doubt they even remember what they said. 💜 I love the pure whiteness of this Soap! It's coconut, you say? How does your fragrance hold up? I've had trouble with Coconut fragrances sticking.

    Tiggy I just love you hun! I swear we must be related somehow, LOL~ When I was in high school for one of my class finals we had to write a report on any topic for our final grade and my report was on "the mind of a serial killer." I did get an A but my teacher didn't really have much to say to me afterwards, LOL! Some may find it morbid to have intereset in these topics, but I see it like this, Im more likely to be aware of someone who's off than the average person because of my interest. Also, if you haven't watched mind hunter, then you really should. It's so awesome!!!

    I get that different people have different preferences. What I don't get is people who judge other peeps' preferences. If they don't like something, they should say it nicely and maybe open up a conversation. But you're right some ppl are just so sheltered and detached from reality so... I really love watching chatty soaping videos be it about ducks, color tutorials, or murder mysteries. Thanks for uploading and looking forward to the next video. Greetings from the Philippines!

    I am SOOOOO going to try putting my water dissolvable TD directly into my oil and lye mixture next time! I have been struggling to get a perfect white for a Gardenia fragrance oil that I have and it's utterly frustrating! Your pure white soap turned out beautifully!
    I absolutely LOVVVVVVVE true crime stuff!!! I always thought it would be amazing to be a criminal profiler because learning the psychology behind people who end up as murderers versus those who don't, is fascinating to me. Like, in a scenario where two children grown up with the exact same family life, and one ends up being a serial killer, while the next one ends up being a lawyer, or a surgeon! I think some of us who are obsessed with true crime just really LOVE the psychology behind it. I watch interrogation videos, listen to 911 calls (I'm in the US so it's 911 for us), watch full court trials (I watched the entire Casey Anthony trial.... totally believe she knew what happened but don't think it was on purpose. I think she just got scared. Doesn't excuse her at all but the prosecution went wayyyy to far in their charges and lost because they couldn't convince the jury of not having reasonable doubt. If they had gone for something like 2nd degree or manslaughter because their evidence and witnesses were such crap, they would have gotten her. I predicted that outcome after closing arguments and that girl was f'ing LUCKY!), and go to sleep watching true crime videos on Investigation Discovery. Currently, I'm listening to a podcast of Spotify called Crimes of Passion that is REALLLLY good! The girl who tells the story is a wonderful storyteller! Subbed and followed the Best Case Worst Case podcast on Spotify! Thank you for the recommendation! Damn. So sorry, so long.

    Love white soap! Do you mind me asking what company you used for the fragrance. I've made coconut soap several times and it either turns tan (even with titanium dioxide) or it ends up smelling like plastic if it stays white. Have never found anything that stays white and smells great....

    I cannot get a white soap to save my life! I paid close attention to your entire process and I just don't know what happens. I used to add the td dry and I always got white spots. Then I made it ahead of time in D. water and the soap always comes out a cream color. Not to mention glycerin rivers when I add more than 1tsp PPO soap. Please, if you have any suggestions I would appreciate it. I have a suitcase full of soaps that are cream color that I didn't even want to give away. I think you used natural cocoa butter and your liquid oils were on the darker side like mine. So...IDK HELP!!

    I have a question, great video by the way, thank you! Every time I make a vanilla soap it turns brown. I put tons of titanium dioxide in the batch, but still, it turned a light brown and yellowish color. Is this just what I have to settle for while use fragrance oils that contain any vanilla?

    • @futureprimitivesoap

    My mom loved reading about criminal cases and serial killers and she was a gentle soul. She did love learning about psychology and psychiatry and this helps to understand the people who commit these crimes. As far as OJ, I never doubted for a minute he was guilty. I still wonder who killed little Jon Benet. I think it was the mother, maybe an accident in a fit of rage.

    Have you tried Umakeitup micas? I tried them and they are like Micamomma except a little bit cheaper. Their colors are also vibrant, and do not morph or fade.

    • @futureprimitivesoap
      @futureprimitivesoap  6 лет назад

      Bare & Bloom Works i have tried them yes. I had a couple morph on me so that wasnt so good. Mica moma tests them all for soap and you can see the pics so I'm happy with her for now. X

    • @r.thomassen6285
      @r.thomassen6285 6 лет назад

      And when you leave the EU, you englishmen will not be able to buy any micas from Umakeitup anyway, unless you have a company. So better to find other suppliers than those who discriminate people. I tried to buy from them, but no, not possible. While the people just up a mountain from me (the swedes), 40 minutes away by car, they can buy as much as they want. Suppliers do heavily discriminate people outside the EU, in one way or another. Either they don't ship at all or they charge you for 25-30 kilo, when you only need a small package of mica. Yes, it is true, many, many do that. The Soap Kitchen, for example. Gracefruit and many others. But not Micamoma, she does not do such things. So yes, buy from her and boycott that crappy company called Umakeitup.

    • @barebloomworks954
      @barebloomworks954 6 лет назад

      Oh! That's bad. I did test some of the micas I got from them and were good that's why I got the same ones again. But I have a few colors from Micamoma too.

    • @barebloomworks954
      @barebloomworks954 6 лет назад +1

      I'm sorry that you had such bad experience. I luckily have not had any problems from all of the companies I bought supplies from. I love Micamomas colors too but I am one of those who will buy some from wherever when I like what they sell. A liability I gues>

    • @r.thomassen6285
      @r.thomassen6285 6 лет назад

      Yes, it is so much easier to buy supplies for citizens of EU countries. If I were living in Sweden, I could buy from a ton of suppliers I can't buy from now.
      I ordered micas from The Soapery in UK. Not very cheap, but shipping was so cheap that I could split the order in two (because of our customs, which is a huuuuge problem). I have not really tested the micas yet, and when I test them I will not know if they are good or bad since I have nothing to compare against (I have never bought micas and colours before, since I'm a beginner).
      I bought fragrances from as far away as Australia. Yes, shipping became extremely expensive. But, since everything is dirt cheap in Australia, I did not pay more than if I should have bought from the UK or other european countries. But I ordered from Australia because I was looking all over the world for oud scents, and could not find it other than in Australia (and in UK by companies I can not order from). I saw a RUclips video and the lady recommended My Mica Obsession in Australia. I checked them out, and believe it or not, it will be cheaper for me to order from them than from most places in the UK. Shipping is very high, but the prices so low that it evened out. I wonder why everything is so cheap there? Like under half price.

    • @futureprimitivesoap
      @futureprimitivesoap  5 лет назад

      I have had comments. I don't respond. Folks need to research more rather than jump all over a questionable ingredient. TD is hazardous only to those who are handling huge amounts due to the air born particles so proper safety measures when handling large amounts are in place. TD is in so many products you wouldn't believe. Toothpaste, sunscreen, foundation, nearly all make up in fact. The info is there to be read if folks only took the time. X

    Your afternoons sounds like mine. No 'me' time. Might have to drop off the grid for a bit to find that personal time! I love true crime stories, murder mysteries and the difference between my husband's reaction speaks volumes as to their differences. Ex thought I was a closet killer and he'd be murdered in his bed one day. Hubs #2 asked why I like them. My answer: I am fascinated by the theory of nature versus nurture and why people out to be so violent despite their upbringing. Basically, why are they the way they are? I'm fascinated by a good mystery, too. Thanks for the suggestion & link!

    If people like us didn't like it when why would there be so many shows about killers? And that guy from unsolved mysteries, where his own son (Adam) was killed, he found out what happened to my cousin. I have always loved watching them shows. So you're not crazy or alone.

    TD comes in water or oil-soluble types. So you're lucky to get the oil-soluble one. My one hates it.

      I know. And I prefer the water soluble any day!

    • @laurenheadley189
      @laurenheadley189 4 года назад

      Also, TD is also very harmful to the airways in powder form (much like SCI powders and other small particle surfactant powders), so it's advisable to solubilise into something to make it safe. Keep your lungs safe Tiggy! Loving catching up on all your back catalogue over the Covid-19 madness.

    • @futureprimitivesoap

      It's more of a hazard to the folks who deal with it in large quantities, not in a teaspoonful. A new paper came out not too long ago with all the info, so dont worry! I keep myself safe x

      FuturePrimitive Soap Company From what I've just read, the oil based is used in make up and won't run is exposed to rain, etc. I'll keep digging to see if there are other differences. I've tried both but prefer water based. The oil one always seemed to be clumpy (is there such a word?). Lol.

    • @futureprimitivesoap
      @futureprimitivesoap  6 лет назад

      Judy Forward ah ok. I always wondered. I have had clumpy TD before so that must have been what it was i guess. Also me buying from a pottery supply explains more then because they wouldn't use an oil based powder.

    I know this video is years old, but I want to ask whether you've seen Mindhunter because you'd love it! I struggle to watch or listen to true crime stuff (I used to) but I think it's human nature to try and understand the reasons people do things. When stuff goes wrong we want to know why. So it makes a lot of sense to me that so many completely normal people are into it. I think there are some places, podcasts etc making content for the oggling and relishing the grim details of real people's horrific experiences, and that's a whole other convo. But you're right, we need the people who profile those who commit acts of violence to be able to figure out what leads to it. There's a good BBC one at the moment which I've forgotten the names of but it'll be on their app!

    Thanks for this video :) I learnt that I don't use anywhere near enough TD !!! ..sigh all this time! and I've been adding too much water to try and get that white colour. 2nd. I too used to be obsessed with murders and mass killings eg. Jonestown massacre etc. Now we don't have a television. Anyway there was a murder here in NZ about 15 years ago, which went unsolved for about a year. I was obsessed with it at the time and greatly saddened as it involved a child. Around the same time I developed an obsession with reading anything I could get my hands on about Charles Manson (all about his life, and horrific childhood). It was a bit out of character for me !! Back to the New Zealand unsolved murder. I often even dreamed about it all and would get a picture in my mind of the killer looking like Charles Manson. When the murder was finally solved and the perpetrator caught, guess whose face appeared on the news paper !!. Yes the murderer looked strikingly similar to Charles Manson...talk about someone wanting to let me know who the murderer was. Yikes

    Fabulous & intresting video. I love anything to do with forensic science & mortuary work. lmao. It's a vocation I wanted to go into but mortuary work when starting off is very low paid & at the time I was in a good job & had a mortgage. I'm one of the weird ones too. Ignore the haters. To do with my old job, I had friends (still do) who were police, forensic staff, prison officers. Some of the stories & premises I used to visit were eye brow raising & fascinating to say the least. I've seen Fred West's prison cell & been in contact with some very undesirable elements of society (frightening when I look back). I've a couple of books I've downloaded if you want them to do with mortuary science if you want them. Very interesting. Take care. Stay weird. xxx

      They did remove the comment. I didnt get to read the last one. There's just a snippet in my youtube app but when i click it it says it was removed. How silly. And yeah dislikes don't bother me too much. It's just easy to see where they come from sometimes, and then it's disheartening when you see someone has actually gotten butt hurt by a discussion that didn't show them being as knowledgeable as they perceive themselves to be. I am always learning and continue to remain teachable in this game. It's what keeps it exciting and fresh. Xx
