For clarification, when you said you would have not even put this soap in the oven, is that because you were hoping for more color definition? Are you thinking the excess heat caused there to be less color contrast between the three layers? All of your ghost swirls turned out great. This is definitely a beautiful technique.
The goal was to only have the high water soap go through gel. I think the low water soap that got dragged into the center went through gel as well, causing less definition between the different batters. I would like to avoid that. You'll have to read Auntie Clara's articles. Her links are in the description.

Gorgeous soaps. I was too busy and waited too late for this challenge. Only gave myself time for one batch at last min and it has too much crumbling going on for some reason so I didn't enter it. I wish I was able to make such astute observations about cause and effect in soap making like you do. Also how do you have an oven that can go down to 145 degrees?! Are you in the US? So frustrating that our ovens only go down to 170F.
Oh, too bad, you will get there. I still am guessing a lot of the time. I am in the US. My oven has a "keep warm" setting and I can set it as low as 145F.
Thanks for sharing your technique! Would you recommend spraying alcohol to prevent soda ash (whether placed in oven or just in the counter) because of the high water content in the middle batter?
I don't used alcohol, but maybe I would if I don't cover the soap and use a high water amount. I always cover the soap except in rare situations like this. I don't get soda ash when I use the water discount that I mentioned pared with covering my soap. If it is humid, I keep it covered for another day.

I am wondering, would you obtain the same effect if you do one normal batch of soap and divide into two parts, and then add water in one of them after trace?
If your normal batch has quite a big water discount, that would probably work. I used 15% "water as a percentage of oil weight" for my low water batch. That is near a one to one ratio of water and lye. The high water batch was 40%, which is a 2.8 to one water to lye ratio. My normal batch is 25%, which is around a 1.8 to one ratio. The normal batch might not be different enough to make much contrast between the two water amounts. If you start with a one to one water to lye ratio, that would probably have enough contrast between the two parts.
Since you have your silicone mold sitting in a wooden mold, aren't you worried about the wood and the heat? Because if not, I'd love to see this work for me to get it to gel better.
No, I'm not. The oven is at such a low temperature for this design, and usually, for other designs, I only preheat the oven and then turn it Off when I put the soap in. Then, I leave the light on to maintain the warmth.
This may be a silly question, however, I was wondering what the benefit is of adding Lard to the soap? I've never seen that before, or I could have just not been paying attention. Wouldn't the Lard make the soap "greasy" and not good for your skin/pores? I mean no offense by it, I'm just genuinely curious.
Lard is good because it is high in Palmitic and Stearic Acid, which makes a hard bar without being drying. It also is known to slow trace and give lots of time to work. It's not greasy in the final product.
Hi My question to Everyone here, Can we Sundry Cold Prossesed Soaps? Please help what are the possibilities we may encounter if sun-dried Cold processed soaps ?
This desgin it’s so beautiful! But I don’t understand the calculations but can I put it this way ? Lye 100% water 100% 1st mixture I put 40%lye with 60%water 2nd mixture I put 60% lye with 40%water
No, you cannot use less water than the lye weight. If you are splitting the batter evenly as I did, the lye amount will be the same for each part because the oils are the same. (Remember, the lye calculation is based only on the oils/butters and not the water/liquid amount.) I used 15%, 40%, and 40% "Water as a Percentage of Oil Weight." So if a third of my oil weight is 11.5 oz, and I use 15%, 40%, 15%, respectively, for the batch I made, the water would be 1.72 oz, 4.6 oz, and 1.72 oz. (The lye would be whatever is calculates to be from the 11.5 oz of oils.)
@@TreeMarieSoapworks Do you have a video explaining the three different ways to calculate the water content (water as percentage of oil, lye concentration (the one I am familiar with), and water and lye) ration in your recipe?
