I was rather unimpressed with Deadlock when I saw the leaked gameplay, but after I tried it for myself, I changed my mind - the game is amazing and feels like the "Next Big Thing" for multiplayer games. Thank you for helping me understand it better.
This is almost my every mutual friend's reaction. They check it out with some gameplay video, they say it looks weird and not that good. After that they try out and will be surprised.

As someone who has played every flavor of MOBA consistently for over a decade, Marco's videos are... also extremely helpful! Deadlock is certainly a MOBA, but it's doing a lot of new and remixed things; the item shop is probably the most significant departure from conventional MOBA features, and most MOBAs don't have enough movement tech to even make a guide on 🤣. I'm honestly astounded how many bases Marco has been able to cover given how unique Deadlock is from anything that has come before. All of the MOBA experience in the world wouldn't suffice; the only explanation for the quality of his content is a lot of hard work and careful insight into these systems. He's teaching MOBA newbies and MOBA veterans alike on this brand new experience. I didn't know he existed 3 weeks ago but he's earned an emphatic sub; I foresee myself sharing his videos a lot in the near future.
IMO, it's basically: is there a t4 item that enables your build? if yes, buy as soon as you feel strong enough to save for it without falling behind. if no, generally after you fill all or most of your item slots with cheaper items
watched you from the division to this, actually really liking these guides since most other guides are just people using their gameplay and rambling for 30 minutes keep it up man
one cool thing I noticed is that when you die, you can see a breakdown of what percentage of damage you took was from bullet damage vs from spirit damage. I use that to decide if I should rush bullet armor or spirit armor. It can be really hard to tell when fights get super chaotic.
you can also press tab and check what items the enemy team is buying -- if they all have huge yellow bars, get bullet armor; if they have purple, spirit
I wasn’t a believer, until I got into a match, Deadlock is peak, if this is what you want to do with your channel, PLEASE DO it is your career to pilot, not the passengers, and I need vids on this now anyway 😂
Already learned something new - I couldn't figure out if / how weapon damage scaled melee and now it's a lot clearer. Was never sure if I had to specifically choose melee damage items, or if weapon damage flat applied too, or what.

20:08 Always. Get. Boots. Movement speed might not seem like a powerful stat in other FPS games, but in a MOBA it is crucial. Time spent walking between lanes is time wasted. And think of it this way: if everyone on the enemy team has increased movement speed and you don't, it's like playing with a permanent slow debuff.

If you ever get a chance, I (and I hope others too) would love to see if you do Individual agent / player breakdown in depth so that we know how to use that agent more properly as well (with all their abilities and how to use them properly, whom they are best/worst against, their pros/cons etc).
Thanks man, so many snippets I've not heard anywhere else, not just in this video. I really need to pay more attention to my t1 items and game play. Hey Marco, after watching this video, I think it would be cool to add sections in your future character guides about what items your enemies will be building to counter you.
@@MarcoStyle yeah ... im also waiting for a special "counter" guide .... a lot of people think that you cannot do anything against sevens ult ... but thats luckily not the case 😎

Someone else mentioned it part of this but But you can unlock abilities by just holding their corresponding key And after they are unlocked, to upgrade, press the key while holding tab
Loving the guides. Completely new to mobas. I'd love a general macro guide! Sometimes i feel so lost especially in late game. Should everyone be coming back to defend patron or should some people maintain lanes. When should i be jungling when winning when losing? All your videos have been a big help!
great guide, hope they add more unique art to each item tho, rn i have trouble looking for specific intems while in something like league i see the icon and instantly know what the item is
Hi! At 6:12 you mentioned that the t1 item extra spirit is more cost efficient than t4 item boundless spirit. Even though that is the case for the spirit stat alone, I think it's not fair to ignore the other stats in boundless spirit as well! But point taken, t1 items are super important and shouldn't be ignored!
Breaking the items down like that was really helpful. Seeing that I'm not wasting money by buying a bunch of T1 items sounds good. 😅 Will still be confusing to estimate power gains with the inate power we gain from character "levels". But I guess that will come over time. Souls beeing the only currency for xp and buying items is really interesting. But takes a bit to get used to.
As a Dota plebs, I'm agree with the boots pick up and then upgrade it or other boots type of items on any heroes. It will help to catch the enemy and run from them as well. IMO, I will add the stamina as a core items as well for most heroes. It will give you on crack movement with boots, add two core defensive items for specific heroes that you play, and then add some situational green items. For now, my basic formula for Vitality items are, Boots + Stamina + 2 type of defensive + Other situational items.
I think ammo scavenger is highly underrated and is basically mandatory on all characters 1st buy no matter the circumstance. If you focus on last hitting with you main weapon and poke with abilities you can massively outscale your lane. Not having to reload when securing souls simply allows you to steal more and secure more. It's the single best early game item and should be pointed out as such in more guides. Or not... It'd be nice if not everyone takes it, easy wins for me😂
Honestly I think if there's anything that can help a player improve their ability in this game it would be developing a better understanding of the shop. Because of how essential it is to doing better. But I do think for new players especially if can be very daunting, because of just how many different and situational items there are. But I guess the best general advice is knowing what items are good for the characters you play as. And if you're doing well and not dying a lot, go for damage boosting items (either weapon damage if most of your damage comes from your weapon or spirit items if you're abilities do most of the damage.) and if you're having trouble staying alive or forced to play defensive, go for vitality items to make you hard to kill.
The spirit multiplier doesn't necessarily tell us much about how well something scales with spirit. Consider a low damage, fast-hitting move, like Abram's 1. The spirit multiplier is low, but if we consider the number of hits, increasing our spirit will have a big impact on our damage.
31:52 I'm pretty sure that resist stacking multiplicatively means having resist *doesn't* make other resist items stronger. Each individual source of resistance will make you take x% less damage than you would have taken without it, regardless of what your resist stat is. It's true that each percentage of resist closer to 100% is stronger, but items stacking multiplicatively eqivalently counteracts that by giving you less percentage points the closer you are to 100%. It's only when resist stacks additively that resistance items are more effective together.
Its insane that this game has a constant above 100k players while being invite only. The game will definetely be huge on release and will be for years. Idk if its gonna be the most played of all mobas but its gonna be counted as one of the moba giants

Even though that is the case for the spirit stat alone, I think it's not fair to ignore the other stats in boundless spirit as well! But point taken, t1 items are super important and shouldn't be ignored!
Great video man, fellow pocket degen, represent.
Breaking the items down like that was really helpful. Seeing that I'm not wasting money by buying a bunch of T1 items sounds good. 😅
Will still be confusing to estimate power gains with the inate power we gain from character "levels". But I guess that will come over time.
Souls beeing the only currency for xp and buying items is really interesting. But takes a bit to get used to.
Please keep these guides coming!
Educational vod review per hero
As a Dota plebs, I'm agree with the boots pick up and then upgrade it or other boots type of items on any heroes. It will help to catch the enemy and run from them as well.
IMO, I will add the stamina as a core items as well for most heroes. It will give you on crack movement with boots, add two core defensive items for specific heroes that you play, and then add some situational green items.
For now, my basic formula for Vitality items are, Boots + Stamina + 2 type of defensive + Other situational items.
Love the in depth guides man!, will you make one on how to itemize/counter and play around certain heroes?
I think ammo scavenger is highly underrated and is basically mandatory on all characters 1st buy no matter the circumstance. If you focus on last hitting with you main weapon and poke with abilities you can massively outscale your lane. Not having to reload when securing souls simply allows you to steal more and secure more. It's the single best early game item and should be pointed out as such in more guides. Or not... It'd be nice if not everyone takes it, easy wins for me😂
Easy subscribe, excellent video, will watch all your other stuff asap!
I hope at some point they update the item icons to be a little more distinct. This video is a great help though.
Amazing guide! Just what I was looking for. Do you also plan on making a guide on matchups?
