On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

Timing Skills, just before Toxic was reenguaged, GS fired at Toxic as he was cold. His reengagement was met with a missle to the face. Great example of SA, GS !

Quite frankly? DCS and you are fully hooked on what was basically the "F-19" catch back in the day (when it comes to computer simulations).
I can only imagine the panic from Toxic at the end of the first fight when he realized he had guns selected instead of missiles.
Even if he hadn't selected guns by accident, with how close GS was, I still imagine his plan was to just mad dog the AMRAAM and hope it tracked.
@@PhycoKrusk Oh, I have no doubt about that. The panic would be trying to get one off the rails before dying. I'm certain Toxic knew he had a missile out on him, and that gun mix-up could easily have cost him enough time to not even get his own missile out.

Longing for the day the F-35 flight characteristics and radar (which is also a powerful jammer already reported to jam Raptor radars) is modelled as accurately as can be in this sim.
The F-22 radar is considerably more powerful than the F-35's. Not to mention DCS puts both of them at the same RCS where we know the F-22 is an order of magnitude lower RCS

@@GrantvsMaximvs F-35's would probably deal with DEAD/SEAD in a stealthy A2G configuration, F-22's would be their bodyguards, loaded with A2A missiles.
F-15 EX lagging behind, full of missiles & bombs, ready to provide long range A2A support if needed... or to destroy other - now vulnerable - objectives.
B-21's might be useful as well

@@artiefakt4402 F15EX is the missile truck with the same radar as the F35. The F22 is being upgraded.
From the looks of that second replay at the end of round two, he ALMOST had you again. Looked like he launched, but not soon enough to get the missile out of the kill zone from yours.
Liked this one a lot - I was curious how the 35 would fare against the 22 in BVR potentially all the way into the merge, and it didn't disappoint.
But the F-22 still rules the roost.
you're right, another second and his amraam would have gotten away from the explosion of mine hitting him and probably would have scored another mutual kill.

but the F-22 has even better radar.
@@NationChosenByGod Not yet. The F-35 still has the most advanced radar, but they do plan to upgrade some F22’s starting this year.

The F-22 can track targets faster than the F-35 because it has more T/R modules than the F-35 and just forget about the designation number of the radar such as 77 or 81 because that is irrelevant. IRST won't do much to track the F-22 because the F-22 is using a cold thruster engine much different than the conventional F135 engine. To make up for the F-35's lack of performance, they put extravagant sensors to increase its survivability, an advantage over the F-22.
@@NationChosenByGod uhh.. not necessarily tho, the f35 often acts as AWACS for other planes, while the raptor doesn’t, ideally the raptor’s radar can track up to ~600 nautical miles, while the f35’s stretches out to roughly 700, under ideal conditions, but really it’s never gonna happen for a multitude of reasons
Crazy how amazing the F-22 is. Makes you wonder what we have now. I saw the F-22 in 2004 when I was in the Air Force it was very much still hidden. 2 of them flew in on an IFE. Pilots opened the bomb doors and the gun was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.
I got to hand it to the Lightning, I don’t actually see the F-22 go down very often on this channel. Watching it get hit felt almost unreal. Even if it was a mutual kill, that’s still something to be proud of.

I've loved planes to an extent all my life, but after discorvering your channel probably a year or two back, I've really grown to love everything to do with planes. Could you set up a fun hunt video with the F22 going into the defense cover to take down a target so far in they wouldn't think their in a threat area, and escaping? AA, SAMS, Modern Interceptors, all hunting you once you give up your position and hit either the air or ground target.
SAMs are AA. You mean AAA. The second A is for Artillery. The guys that shoot 20mm/30mm bullets
Would love to see some behind the lines operations using F-35. I know it doesn't get much love, but its rarely put to use as intended in DCS it seems, ie anything other than a dogfight. Shout out to its much better nick name "panther"! Cheers, from the French part of Canada.
Yea, there is a bunch of special stuff about the 22. So much so that, from what I understand, pilots aren't even allowed to do everything it can do at air shows. Check out the talk a pilot gives on one of MIT's RUclips channels. Pretty unique plane.
I think the methods to use the F35 are different form any other fighter than maybe the F22. Because of that using typical techniques used for all other fighters with those planes may short change them greatly.

You should do more videos on the F-35
I get your point the F-22 is not exported, it's also designed for air superiority and in a dogfight would absolutely crush the F-35. But having said that the F-35 has much more modern systems giving it the edge in BVR. In a 1vs.1 I guess it would be kind of balanced, but when multiple planes are engaging, say 3 vs. 3 or something like that I'd guess the F-35 would have a clear advantege from it much more modern radar, sensor fusion, and data sharing. Also I think a lot of its features are not modelled in DCS like the ability to lock targets behind it which could also be a great advantage if it comes to the merge and those initial moments of a dogfight. What do you think?
Also another thing to note is that the stealth of both AC are not attempting to void all radar detection, it’s a mix of radar deflection with absorption, and you’re primarily supposed to stay nose hot to ensure maximum absorption and deflection, once you start to bank and open WBD to launch say and AMRAAM or drop any ordinance, you immediately will pop up on radar, it doesn’t matter how much LO material you have coated onto your airframe, it will see you, what matters most is getting your missiles out, close WBD, and hold nose hot for a few seconds and then crank so in case he did pick you up on radar, you spoof him out as far as your next direction before you crank
DCS mods arent that complex. They always have the same RCS no matter the direction

I once talked to an air force officer, a major from my hometown about the Raptor. He said the capabilities of the Raptor far exceed anything the public knows and imagines and it will NEVER be exported and as a Raptor pilot...he said that with extreme confidence.

Not necessarily. The F-35 has a big advantage with the Helmet Mounted Display System (HMDS) and 360 degree staring infrared EODAS , which allows for 'over the shoulder' (even 180 degree) AIM-9X employment. Capabilities that the F-22 lacks.
Not selling the F-22 to Australia and Japan was one of America's dumbest, most short-sighted strategic plays.
That missile/kill exchange in the first round was epic.
The reason F-22 was never sold was because it was blocked by Congress (todays its still an extremlly capable fighter, can you imagine the tech gap back in the 90s?). It was just so advanced that the Government intervened.
To lift the block, the Congress would need to revoke what it did in the 90s. I'll leave to your good sense to know wether or not thats a thing we could expect to happen anytime soon.
There's also no need for any other country to buy the F-22 - even if they could - when there are F-35s availabe. F-35 was made to operate with a whole network of other F-35s and AWACS and ground-assets simultaneously; it's literally a hive-mind fighter.

TLDR: No export F22s were made because we were scared of losing our lead. Strategy changed, and so we started with the goal of F35s being sold.
For info, the reason no export F22 was created was for the fear of the technology being lost ot other countries through either aircraft loss or reverse engineering. At the time of it’s inception, the F22 was considered such a large leap from the F117 that there was too much of a technological lead to risk possibly losing. Now, the new defense strategy is to allow allies to operate the F35 and F22, and thus the aircraft was designed from the beginning for foreign sales, and export versions (like the F35i) are sold. The idea being that the F35 is updated quite rapidly, and thus any loss of technology would be a more minor loss as the aircraft is consistently updated, and it is more important to allow allies to operate the most capable airframe we make, than keep it as securely locked down.

Also no Allies are allowed to use the F-22, it’s solely used by the USAF.
I’m pretty confident the NGAD (which replaces the F-22) will also not be available for export.

It's as he says also that nobody else can have a Raptor. There's a big reason for that.

@@StrengthAndConditioning61 because when it was created it was too advanced, but now it is not being produced so of course there is no export variant. The F-35 basically does everything the F-22 does, and is much cheaper.

If I lived in one of those houses below and saw out of my window a F-22 bank hard at 50ft above the ground while firing a missile, I might consider looking for real estate listings elsewhere.
Anyone else notice the AMRAAM that was fired at him hit the ground at 3:00 , woulda gotten him if he was up higher maybe 3000 feet higher. Thought it was cool I noticed something he didn't for the first time ever lmao.

Suggestion: Similar fight, but more of a challenge: F-22 has no missiles and has to fight its way inside, avoiding all F-35 shots, to make a gun kill.

When the bill to procure the F-35 was in committee, Congress added provisions to destroy the forms to make more F-22s. So that's one more reason there isn't an export version.
I think the reason we’re not selling the F22 is because it’s double the cost of an F35 almost, and the F35 is designed to work with more modern air defense systems, so no one wants to buy the F22 over the F35. I also think a good counterpoint is that yes, we’re not selling F22s, but we’re also not making any more of them

Hmm, questions:
1. Isn't the F-35 more stealthy than the F-22 ? If yes, then it could use exactly the same tactics and it should be a draw.
2. The Meteor missed by a few meters but wasn't able to lock the F-22 while the AMRAAM locks and hits the Raptor at 3 miles, similar aspect. Isn't that a bit strange ?
Its not more stealthy than the F22.. F35 sis the size of a golfball on radar, the F22 a marble. Thats hugely different in the grand scale. Also the F35 lights up like the 4th of july on thermal. F22 does not.

The f35 is not more stealthy. It's not even designed to be stealthy from the rear at all.
The raptor is designed for absolute maximum stealth from all directions and sensors.

There is a good reason why they dont get sold. Even US airforce thinks they cost too much and are not worth it. F 35 does everything better than dogfighting and never need to get in that kind of situation where you want to be anyway.
Still fighting 4th gen tactics using a 5th gen jet. Where do you get the lowest RCS of an any acft? The nose; more so on a 5th gen jet. The F-22 is larger than the F-15 and with an F-16-sized vertical tail. You shot an AMRAAM in the first fight, but immediately turned, showed your tail, and got killed by an AIM-9. Granted, if it was an AIM-9X, it really wouldn't matter what you showed at that range, but the largest IR is the tail. Also, I think inside 2mi, the AIM-9X would have issues with proper targeting/arming, so not sure how he got that kill.

I love these, but I'd love to see you collab with someone where you could intercut some footage from their point of view - I'd love to see their reaction to firing missile after missile, or having the Raptor keep disappearing from radar, only to appear behind them. I badly wanted to see him react to you just popping up and launching at him from behind, like 5 miles away.

With the cutting edge avionics, the insanely powerful engine, I bet the F35A and especially the C's with their larger wings, are quite capable at dogfighting if the situation ever calls for it. I've seen them pull some impressive maneuvers in air shows.
Once all the kinks are ironed out, everything optimized, it's going to be a great jet. They should've made it slightly bigger imo for an expanded weapons bay.

F35s are intentionally G limited like all other navy planes and even the airforce G limited them.. Service life...
@@manofchaitea6904 f-18s are g-limited at a lower threshold than f-35a and same as f-35c (7.5g). That should tell you that when comparing f-16/f-18 to f-35s you probably shouldn’t bring up g-limits as an implied advantage. It’s the same, based on military branch.

Even from these commercial simulations I have the impression that the latest platforms will give pilots the ability to choose whether to engage defenses or not, depending on the priorities of the mission.
