How Can Mythic Plus Improve? Especially Tyrannical and Fortified!

  • Mythic Plus is one of the coolest forms of content in gaming. But it def has room for improvement! I go over some ideas that would make potentially healthy and competitive changed for M+! But as always, drop in the comment section what you would want to see changed!

    I think that keystones as a concept are entirely outdated and they should just let us attempt keys directly from the font of power. Also I think having to slowly farm up level by level for each dungeon would be an annoying chore for blasters that could go much higher than they're allowed. Maybe let us skip up in increments of 3-5 or something. This completely eliminates the annoyance of having to rebuild and roll random keys or having to find some random pug to attempt something. I don't really care about people farming crests or drops over and over cuz that literally already happens with the current system anyway.
    As for damage some things just deserve to get specific special scaling or just be outright capped on their scaling on a certain level because the nature of infinite scaling changes how a mechanic is intended. Eventually a missed kick stops being pressure damage and becomes instadead. A pool of area denial becomes "movement ability out of this because two ticks kills you" or like in the last Nokhud boss that grounding spear could literally one shot you on tyrannical if you didn't use a defensive even though it was randomly picked and unavoidable. That's stupid and should not happen.

      Amen. I was going to say that a keystone should be for any dungeon, not a specific one, but your approach solves that in a better way.

      obviously fine tuning and testing each ability across the m+ pool is work that blizzard is not going to bother with. I wonder if implementing a hard damage cap on like non tankbuster/wipeintended spells/abilities would work. Something like maxes out at 80%hp of a max ilevel dps (im thinking druid or something idk whos got least stam)

      @@coololi07 not that I make video games, but would it be that much harder than just changing the number multiplier on how much damage something does? They've already implemented the mechanism that scales the damage. Just make specific spells or mechanics scale less. They've already done this sort of thing before by capping spiteful mobs damage at +20.

      @@zandafolf The problem lies exactly in picking and choosing which spells and mechanics to adjust. Which is a lot of balance work and decisions. Which blizzard already struggles with. It also gets to a deeper question of design philosophy for m+

    The main thing I would like is a social score so that we can penalize leavers.
    Everyone take a vote if a dungeon ends while unfinished. If everyone was in agreement that it just wasn't going to happen, no harm, no foul, but if it ended because one guy just rage-quit, you can ding him.
    Yeah, every once is a while someone might grief you, but 99% of the time if someone has a crappy score, it means they can't be trusted with your key.

    I think m+ lacks rewards for someone like me who pushes as much as they can, but is unable to reach the 0.1%. I get 3.2-3.3k and there is no insentive to push any higher than 2.5k and i think that's a shame.There are so many affixes and most of them are annoying, but i truly don't like Tyrannical, Tyrannical has the issue of being too long in high keys (5-7 minutes boss fights) and easily turns into a 1 shot fest. And it doesn't feel like i'm fighting my own skill but how to cheese a 1 shot which is boring. I don't dislike fort as much but definitely think it's the least problematic of the 2. Instead of using fort/tyran as weekly affixes maybe. Make 2 affixes that would work like seasonal affixes. And use those as our fort/tyran keys. Usually they tend to change up routing or which packs you pull. At this point it's worth a shot
    As someone who hates losing their 25-27 key for no apparent reason because of 1 silly wipe or because someone dcs. It is sad to have to grind for hours to get that prog back. But I don't want to be able to deplete my keys so many times in a row that it turns into homework keys. It makes the key I do have feel pretty meaningless. And the "Oh we don't time it anymore oh well let's try for the 7th time" does seem really tedious. The only solution i have is something naowh suggested i think? Being able to do keys to exchange your existing keystone to another 1 based on the currency you have by completing keys. And that specific currency drops from a specific level range. That was losing your key isn't as problematic but it doesn't give you a insentive of going full gremlin mode and trying the same key 40-50 times as homework keys.

    Ah yeah, Bolstering + fortified... the times where I got oneclapped by a dot tick for 1,7M hp on a +15 key. It was not an overpull.

      Fort doesn’t change bolster damage though? What are you talking about?

      @@kyrriana1772 nope, it’s not a fortified mechanic. It’s an affix, unaffected by tyrannical or fortified. Same as sanguine, volcanic, tornadoes

    Been playing M+ since legion...I'm actually tired of affixes. Would rather more mechanically diverse and difficult content rather than just increasing numbers. yes on the challenge mode lets bring them back.

    love these ideas! current keystone system makes it so hard to practice. When you've only got so much time in a week downrgading a key feels so punishing when youre trying to push. There are some dungeons we're just avoiding cos of this...

    Could at least add like 3 charges to the key so you get 3 goes before it drops

    There is already a "grade" that tells you how well you did. 3 chesting is A, 2 chesting is B, etc.
