I miss Madeline Kahn. She was so freaking funny and talented.
Would you like some more schnitzengluben?
The chemistry within the cast in this movie is amazing.
A little trivia for you: The layout of set matches the layout of the boardgame including having the secret passageways connecting the right rooms. The parquetry floors represents the squares in the boardgame. The cars each character drives matches the colour of their name - Mrs Peacock's car is blue, Scarlet's red etc.
Miss Scarlet was originally supposed to be played by Carrie Fisher, but she had to go to rehab. John Landis came up with the idea for the movie, but Jonathan Lynn wrote the script after others had failed to make it work including Anthony Perkins of Psycho fame. Lynn was then asked to direct even though he had only directed a TV movie before. He had been friends with Tim Curry since they were teenagers and asked him to play Wadsworth. Lynn also directed My Cousin Vinny, another great comedy worth watching if you haven't seen it.
Anyway, The More You Know 🌈
Yes, My Cousin Vinny is another good comedy that Ellie Moses could review. Several other reactors have watched that as well.
What a time to be alive! The "alternate endings" starting at 54:08 were actually shown at random to different theatres when this came out in 1985. It's such a privilege that we get to see them all together when watching this film 30 years later on streaming. IMO, it works best when we get to see all 3 endings.
Also, lol at Elie only realising the main character's name after 52 mins! XD And very happy to see that Buffy knowledge has permanently entered your frame of reference. I thought exactly "showtime" too when the floodlights came on at 55:46!
Btw, speaking of "rainy day whodunnits", Identity (2003) is another such film.
That’s a clever idea.
I remember seeing this on VHS in the late '80's. How could I have known that I was watching one of the smartest comedies of all time? The video tape had all three endings. I also remember playing the board game with my friends, so I recognized the names of the characters and the rooms and the assortment of weapons.
When they released it on DVD they gave it a menu option to play a random ending. There was also another ending planned but I don't believe it was filmed.
Identity is sooo good!
I'm so happy you are watching this. Clue is my nostalgic favourite movie. I remember my family renting the VHS copy for a week when I was nine and I watched it 14 times. I watch it a couple times a year at least and can practically quote the whole thing. Everyone in the movie is giving peak performance.
SPOILERS: My favourite character was always Miss Scarlet. I love how everyone else is uncomfortable or doesn't want to admit to being blackmailed or what they are being blackmailed for and she just straight up admits it. Same in the final ending when Wadsworth accuses her of hitting the policeman on the head. She seems absolutely delighted that he figured it out. 'True. Who are you, Perry Mason?' And the 1+2+1+1 scene! Love her. Anyway, enough fangirling.
I really hope you guys enjoy this one. I had soo much fun as you can tell with the reaction. What's next? Most liked reply gets the watch! Hopefully, you guys pick one that will get good traction as I need to be valuable with time 🤣
Hard to believe this is now 38 years old. A great fun farce from start to finish with great cast. This type of film was made for Tim Curry. Highly enjoyable re-watch and great positive reaction. You gotta do Hot Fuzz Elie, just off the scale in quality film making brilliant cast, and achingly funny scenes throughout.
Ive seen hot fuzz!
Loaded with famous actors! The Singing Telegram Girl is Jane Wiedlan, the guitarist/singer from the 80s band "The Go-Go's" ("We Got The Beat"). I love this movie, and your reactions were awesome! So fun.
Bahahaha I am so happy you have watched this, Clue is one of my fave niche films that gets overlooked waaay more than it deserves!
Thanks, Elie! 🕵♀ Yes, indeed, this one is highly rewatchable. The reason there were multiple endings is because when it was in the cinema, the audience would vote for who was guilty so different screenings showed different endings. The first time all three were shown together was for the video release. #ElieMoses #Clue #JonathanLynn #Clue1985 'Mrs. White' was my favorite, too. She's portrayed by the late Madeline Kahn. Be sure to catch her in WHAT'S UP DOC (1972). 'Miss Scarlet' is Lesley Ann Warren. See her at her best in VICTOR/VICTORIA (1982). 'Mrs. Peacock' was played by Eileen Brennan, who died a decade ago. Her most known role is probably PRIVATE BENJAMIN (1980). The 'Singing Telegram Deliverer' is Jane Wiedlin, guitarist from the 80s rock band, Go-Go's. As for whodunnits in general, one of my most beloved ones is DEATHTRAP (1982). It's got some humor, but it's not as zany as CLUE.
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Perfect cast, excellent script, great direction, superb tone. A classic that was not respected when it was originally released in theaters.
The singing Telegram girl is Jane Weidlin who is a member of the 80's girl rock group The Go go's.
Madeline Kahn improvised the flames on the side of my face part.
I think you are the first reactor to notice that the motorist was in the picture with colonel mustard.
When it came out movie theaters each had one of three endings, it hurt the movie at the time that you would have to see the movie three times to see each ending but when it came out on VHS it included all the endings.
Jane Weidlin's solo career was really good. Adored the Go-Go's but Jane's song; "World on Fire" is a energetic track. Plus her cameo in Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home was a nice surprise.
Madeline Kahn was so talented - loved her in 'What's Up Doc?'
There's another reacter who noticed it two, but I think they're the only ones.
49:24 When the movie was originally released it had 3 endings, This is where it cut to one of them. So you would go see it and see it was Mrs. Peacock then go with your friends and now see it was Miss Scarlet. Now with the DVD/Streaming version it plays all 3, Or you can (on DVD) have it randomly pick one of the 3 endings.
Someone may have mentioned this already. In the game, there are simple pawn-shaped pieces used in many board games. They’re typically colored in various colors: green, blue, white, etc. Clue used this advantageously by naming the characters by the color: Professor Plum is purple, Miss Scarlet is red, Miss White is white, Colonel Mustard is yellow. Mr. Green was green. What color was Mrs. Peacock?
I like the way the floor in this movie has squares resembling squares in a board game.
I'm so excited to watch this with you Elie! 😊
For another hilarious murder mystery, and one filmed quite a few tears before this one, check out Neil Simon's crazy comedy "Murder By Death " It's another all-star incredibly cast whodunnit. The jokes come fast and furious, and the mystery with a surprise ending you will never guess. I hope you'll check it out. It's as fun as this one.
When this movie was released to theaters; it was done with the 3 ending playing in different theaters. You were given a Clue sheet; similar to the one in the game, each marked with A, B, or C for each of the endings. So if you wanted to see all 3 endings; you would have to see it multiple times. I didn't have a theater near me; that was playing the A ending, so I only saw B and C. I didn't see A until few years later; when it was out on Cable and Home Media. Either way; still one of my favorite films to rewatch.
Col Mustard, was the principal in Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
Mr Green was in Good Omens, he's the Witch Finder
The Cook, is Nurse Kellye in MASH
I feel like most of the jokes went right over his head because he was so intent on trying to "figure it out."
The fun comes when you just sit back and focus on the hilarious dialogue (and character reactions).
It's just one joke after another! 😂😂😂
I love the homage to the board game - no one right answer, it always changes based on which cards you've drawn at the start.
"Professor Plum, you were once a professor of psychiatry specializing in helping paranoid and homicidal lunatics suffering from delusions of grandeur."
"Yes, but now I work for the United Nations."
"So your work has not changed."

Fun Fact: The three endings were shown at a random theater when it first came out. All three are included on video. The DVD, however, aside from having all three endings, also offers the option to play the movie with one randomly selected ending.
Heartbreaking Loss Fact: The Max Busch House, the mansion used for the exterior and ballroom scenes, was destroyed by a massive fire on October 5, 2005. After the fire, several people left flowers on the front gate and even shed tears, evidence of how much the house was cherished by the local community.
Random Order Fact: Wadsworth decides how the guests will be paired up to search the house by cutting matchsticks into various lengths, and the guests appear to draw these at random. Naturally, the partners were assigned by the script and the process could not be left to chance. Before Tim Curry holds out the cut matchsticks to the actors, he was given them in the correct order. The actors acted as if they were picking randomly, but simply drew the matchsticks in order from left to right.
top 10 film for me. I rewatch it all the time.
Since you like the "whodunnit"-genre, you should react on "Murder on the Orient Express", but the version from 1974 and the extremely funny "Death by Murder" from 1976.
Dark and Stormy night is another funny mystery.
"I'm gonna go home and sleep with my wife!" is the best ending line to a movie ever (change my mind)
This is the kind of movie that you should watch more than, each time you will get more that you might have missed.
I am SO GLAD you noticed the driver in the photo with Col. Mustard. So many people who review this movie miss that!
Hey Elie you discovered one of my favorite movies of all time ,,hell yeah
To 'powder your nose' means to put makeup on, but itself ('i need to powder my nose') was used to politely excuse oneself from company in order to use the bathroom (whether to reapply makeup or not! 😉)
I have seen this movie so many times, and YOU are the first person to bring to my attention the motorist is in one of the pictures with Col. Mustard. And that was shown just moments BEFORE he even utters how one of the guests is "his old boss".
One of my favorite feel good movies. Makes me laugh every time. And I have watched this several times. Glad you liked it.
yes. yes it is. one of my favorite films of all time.
One of my favorite movies, cool to see you have such genuine appreciation for all these stellar aspects of Clue. I could easily make 100 comments on this movie, but if I'm to narrow it down, it would be to give props to this cast and the writing. As you said it's such a clever movie. Every character is so fleshed out and their comic delivery of every line is impeccable. From Mrs. Peacock simply saying "What?" or Mrs. White with her sound effects, and that's all just to round out the insane amount of perfectly crafted lines (where is it? what, the body? The phone? What body? There's no-body in the study!) Tim Curry is a tour de force, and like you said you can re-watch and choose a specific character to follow, and you'll notice all they brought to their character. There are so many types of humor - dry, wit, banter, punchlines, physical slapstick. This ensemble is top tier.
THE QUEEN
Apparently they're making a clue reboot with Ryan Reynolds in 2023 or 24
I love Clue!
I was Yvette in our high school play☺
There is ONE problem with the multiple endings, and that's when there are certain characters that were NOT on the ground floor, yet they somehow committed those murders on the ground floor without being heard or noticed. They would have been too far away in that short amount of time the lights came off and on again.
It's also far and away the best game-to-movie adaption ever made.
I vote for *12 Angry Men* from 1957. A masterpiece of film making and acting. If you haven't seen it that is since you went to film school.
2nd option is *Robin Hood: Men In Tights* a Mel Brooks film starring Cary Elwes ( also in The Princess Bride) and a very young Dave Chappelle
Professor Plum's actions are supposed to emphasize that he's a pervert.
Clue is great, underrated movie.
Airplane and Clue? Have you been reading my wish list?! ❤
🧐🧐🧐
The butler is Tim Curry, the famous Dr Frank-N-Furter in Rocky Horror Picture Show
This set was also used for the show Dynesty.
This won't get many votes, but I vote The Fountain. To me, it's a lot like Donnie Darko even though the story is very different enough to be its own thing. It's by Darren Aronofsky, who also made Requiem of A Dream, The Swan, and The Whale. It's a huge mind blow with reincarnation and a bit of time travel mixed in.
They each got a weapon from the game. Their names are from the game also.
7:40 You’re correct. Notice how the Butler introduced Ms White to Yevette first and ignored Col. Mustard? Why introduce the maid by first name? Also, the Cook is trying to hide and doesn’t want anything to do with the guests. Suspicious.
Yvette was in Police Academy 2, married Tackleberry
When this movie was in theatres, there were 3 different endings. Which makes it immpossible to determine the killer/killers 😊...what i meant was, you could have 3 theatres in the same city and each one had one ending, while other theatres had a different ending.
great reaction. love this film
In the top three of my favourite films
Colonel Mustard has never worn yellow. None of the characters in my board game are dressed in the colors.
You really need to see “Murder by Death”😎
LOVE CRAZY
The weapons in the boxes are the weapons from the board game.
They had 3 different endings in different cinemas when released.....😮
Also, Prof. Plum works for UNO WHO. United Nations Organization for the World Health Organization
16:35
In the game, the lead-pipe is always depicted crooked.
But in this movie, it is straight.
Is the motorist's voice, when he says his line at the door, is ADR? It seems slightly off to me.
Elie You need to watch the 1976 comedy/who done it film Murder by Death. It has Peter Sellers and an awesome cast. I like it better than Clue. It is amazing and would be great for you to react to.
I totally agree 💯 “Murder by Death” is such a classic👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😎
I'm just saying if you haven't seen Knives out or the glass onion you should definitely check them out
Your opinion is RIGHT. The best ever whodunit.
Different theaters got different endings.
Have you done O Brother, Where Art Thou?
40:58 One of the best ending in any movie
4:40
*"Why is everyone staring at her breasts?"*
Because they are magnificent.
Jonathan Lynn is the best writer of complex double talk. Just watch his classic Britcom YES MINISTER and YES, PRIME MINISTER
Great job on this reaction! You should totally react to a film called Dead Calm 1989. It’s a sea thriller starring Nicole Kidman!
........⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.........
9:59,because,some people smoke
Love this classic! Elie, when do u plan 2 post ur next Breaking Bad reaction?
I havent even recorded it yet ryan! I have easter with the fam this weekend then I have an assignment due on the 17th and 22nd and have a short film to work on this week
@@eliemoses , cool man, appreciate everything u do!
@Ryan Swayze88 thank you ryan! All about finding time!
This movie has ruined me fo polite conversation.... every time I hear "to make a long story short..." I have a very strong urge to say "too late!"
Also, the "flames" dialogue was improved. Mrs. White forgot her lines but everyone stayed in character and they kept it in.
The last names of the guests are all colors.
Clue movie reboot in 2024.
🕵️♀️
Who's Waldron? (edit:ah, you caught yourself. Good man)
As a whodunit, this isn't great, but, as a parody of whodunits and the McCarthy era, it's something.
The ending where all the guests committed a murder is the most fun, but makes the least sense because of how characters would not have been able to commit them.
The Yvette/Scarlett ending makes the most sense.
But the Peacock ending is just so mediocre.
SPACEBALLS: THE MOVIE
1950s cars broke down in heavy rain all the freaking time. Total PitA
Forget your shirt I have the mentality of The Christ ..the I Am's Son.
Good for you 👍
Try Deathtrap
Are the youth was so screwed by this movie fyi when originally released different cinema had different endings in the dvd they condensed it into this could have happened or this could have happened fyi in the modern day internet spoiler alert the web would explode with people saying one ending and another saying bull it happened like this and another what??? It happened like this😂😂
When this film came out it was panned as an terrible movie. Admittedly, its a better whodunnit than Glass Onion.
Are they gonna moan???
a great comedy but not a real whodunit. there's no real mystery to solve. its a great parody though.
I was interesting in watching your channel for the first time but the intro on this video was such a turn off. Literally who do you think you are my man? That was so cringe. No one clicked on this video for a pseudo motivational speaker kid talking nonsense. Yikes bro.
