- Country Living Is Not. We're looking at some myths, or mistaken views that many Seventh-day Adventists hold when it comes to Country Living.

We have been on the adult journey of country living for just over 20 years. I found all of your points to be spot on. And we are stil growing and learning more (physically and spiritually). There is no arrival date. As soon as you think you have conquered one area God shows you the next one to work on.
Right. Think about if a catastrophe happens and you are waiting for a certain sign to make a move.. keep in mind road blocks, backed up cars waiting just like you to get out, if logistics stopped, about 3 days for grocery stores to go empty, no food coming in, you'll be stuck...

I agree with everything. If God does bless us with property, it should be used to help fellow believers. However, just like we'll have to plant our own gardens, we need to protect our families (prior to the time to run). Meaning, not everyone needs my address and it does need to be private. It is to be used for our siblings in Christ, as Jesus put it, those who truly follow God. I preach to the others in town or back in the city haha
This is a very informative & objective explanation, without fanatical views of two opposite extremes. Here we have a realistic explanation.
As a minister of the SDA Church, I was living in the city & then came the time when gradually I started to experience country life. I like to live in the city as well as in the country. But it depends very much on WHICH AREA we live in the city & in WHICH AREA we live in the country. Here is the main point! And especially, HOW WE ORGANIZE OUR LIFE in the city or the country. It depends not so much on the city or the country, but it depends ON US, - ON OUR LIFESTYLE, - who we are, how we live & what we believe.
The SOP teaches us on this subject very objectively appealing to God's people who are well-disciplined & well-organized Christians; those who love God, His Word & people. It meant those SDAs who like to work, who use their skills & who use God's Wisdom to live a godly lifestyle being independent of this sinful world. When such people want to live in groups like Amish confessors, then such country life is going to be a happy & blessed life.
The first SDAs were living in the country in small communions. They were able to help each other & to be together.
It was advanced Christian country life, not the savage individual isolation of Robinson Crusoe's adventure life far away from any civilization.
God calls us to think about how we should wisely & appropriately use our abilities to live a self-supported life in any situation, in any place, - if it's a city or if it's a country. But all of us need to learn to live a country life when the times will become tougher than at the present. Nevertheless, we need to learn it & be ready to live in all circumstances.
Those who live with God will be able to live a country life in nature where God's Presence is closer to His Creation. God will lead His people together as He was leading His people in the most deserted places out of Egypt in the past.

Yes. While it is important to be in the country for the time of no buy or sell, it's more about being in a perfect place for our spiritual growth.
I truly appreciate the historical background in the other 3 videos. It's amazing to know that the church put so much effort into teaching its members about country living the right approach. Also sad that the majority of modern sdas appear to have allowed the council of country living to die. Continue to be encouraged
Again and again the Lord has instructed that our people are to take their families away from the cities, into the country, where they can raise their own provisions; for in the future the problem of buying and selling will be a very serious one. We should now begin to heed the instruction given us over and over again: Get out of the cities into rural districts, where the houses are not crowded closely together, and where you will be free from the interference of enemies.4 (For further detailed counsel on this topic see Country Living.) Buying and selling is the main reason that we should be in the country living.

Hi am an Adventist and what you are saying about country living is not true ....it is not an official church doctrine(check fundermental beliefs) but the church encourages country living not just because of Sunday law but so that we are able to avoid the corruption and pollution and unhealthy behaviours in the cities ....
Thank you for the response. Yes I agree that it's not a doctrine. I believe I said it's an official SDA Teaching. If I said it was a doctrine, that was a mistake. But remember the doctrines are just categories for our beliefs. The Sabbath, the great controversy, the gift of prophecy are all not doctrines, they're beliefs or teachings of the church.
Here's a quote from the official SDA site, "The 28 Fundamental Beliefs can be organized into six categories of doctrine: God, man, salvation, the church, daily Christian life, and last-day events (restoration)."
The first video is entitled is Country Living An Official SDA Teaching. The series is addressing the incorrect belief that Country Living is just an opinion or belief of some members but not the church itself.

I mostly agree with you brother, especially with the fact that country living is not easy and we need to do everything according to God's counsel; however, I believe time has come when God's people must FLEE the cities and move into the countryside where they can grow their own food and be self sufficient for it is not the will of the Lord that His people suffers unnecessarily. We know what happened in 66 A.D. when Cestius surrounded Jerusalem but unexpectedly retreated; Christians have left the city and fled straight away to the mountains. And history tells us that not one Christian perished. Jesus said, I quote,
"16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes." (Matthew 24:16-18)
And Sister White said, I quote,
Again and again the Lord has instructed that our people are to take their families away from the cities, into the country, where they can raise their own provisions; for in the future the problem of buying and selling will be a very serious one. We should now begin to heed the instruction given us over and over again: Get out of the cities into rural districts, where the houses are not crowded closely together, and where you will be free from the interference of enemies. 19LtMs, Lt 5, 1904, par. 3

"If we place ourselves under objectionable influences, can we expect God to work a miracle to undo the results of our wrong course?-No, indeed. "Let children no longer be exposed to the temptations of the cities that are ripe for destruction. The Lord has sent us warning and counsel to get out of the cities. Then let us make no more investments in the cities. Fathers and mothers, how do you regard the souls of your children? Are you preparing the members of your families for translation into the heavenly courts? Are you preparing them to become members of the royal family? children of the heavenly King? “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” How will ease, comfort, convenience, compare with the value of the souls of your children?"-Manuscript 76, 1905. CL 12.5
We know what's coming next, so we must be in the right location where God wants us to be.
Thanks for the response. I agree with you that definitely none of God's people should be in the cities now. But also the point I was making was that God's people were never to be in the cities in the first place. There never was a good time to be in the cities. That's what I meant when I say it's not for the end times.
If you check the video "Is Country Living An Official SDA Teaching," you'll see I show the history of the church's statements on membership and the cities and country living.
With that in mind, when you read Ellen Whites counsel, she still told families not to make rush decisions but to move as God leads. And so if my focus is Titus is coming and I need to run, then I'm prone to making a rushed decision. And what happens is people move quickly, they're not setup properly and then when they don't see a National Sunday Law right away they doubt the message and return to the cities. Or they suffer major setbacks such as illness and return and others mock the message.
If they understand that God wants them in the country regardless of the events around them, then they will work towards that goal. And God will open the door for their move to the country.

@@PreparingtheWayoftheLord Yes, I agree with you brother that God's people were never meant to be in the city; however, because of circumstances some had no other option. For example, when I moved to the UK I had to be in the city as I didn't have any other choice. But now I believe time has come when we must flee to the country.
By fleeing I don't mean that we need to rush out recklessly by making bad decisions and choices. In fact, the Lord in His mercy showed me in dreams that I needed to leave the town I lived in; so, I moved temporarily to a farm where I am waiting on the Lord to open the way to move where He wants me to be; and I am certain He will since He showed me. He amazingly led me where I am now, He worked out the smallest detail. I am convicted, had I greater faith I would already be where God wanted me to be. Sadly, most of us, (including myself), have little faith. But we need to exercise faith as never before.
There are also brethren who can't afford it and are frustrated or desperate. My message to them is trust God who is the Owner of the cattle of thousand hills. God's treasury is never short of money. When God runs out of money, He makes it. How? I don't know! So, please don't worry. I am in a similar situation, but He showed me that He has done it and will lead me to the location He has already prepared for me which won't be long.

What the myth that when you move to the county you will not need financial resources. And how can you rise financial resources in the country, because I believe till the time of no buying and selling comes which the bible talks about. Till that time comes we will still have to be doing some kind of buying and selling.
