I very much enjoy your soulful videos! I grew up on a farm in the Midwest (USA) and loved my country upbringing with my 4 siblings. But, as a young adult I wanted to move to the city and at 67 this is where I remain. My town in small however and has a rural feel. Now, as I turn inward in my life, I would like to move into a simple country setting again. Sending love and peace to all !
I can’t imagine you in the city. We did the same thing. I found I didn’t sleep well with traffic and sirens on a busy road. It took two years to buy the place we wanted. The quiet calm of the day. The night sky bright with stars. That was forty years ago. My husband died a year ago and our children moved to Europe. Even though I am old I am finally getting a little conservatory added on so I can sit in the sun in winter and have lots of plants around me. It is so peaceful here. I wonder if you will live there as long as I have. ❤️
This lifestyle can be adapted for many situations. We cannot all move to the west coast of Ireland, or to the countryside. However, we can all grow some plants, recycle stuff, consume less and live every day to the full. Don't put off loving your life until it is perfect. I live on the outskirts of a big city but despite a few annoyances, I am travelling this road to a calm, sustainable life and I love the journey. 😃.
What make it the hardest for me is living with a lot of people that don't mind living with trash everywhere and smokes a lot. That makes me so sad and angry. Luckely we have a little forrest near by where's my safe place. Otherwise my life i simple, just the atosmphere around that is so hurting. It physically hurts.
When I was younger I could both fit into NYC and life in countryside Connecticut, never knowing which one I preferred more. I never took time to know which one was better for me as the rat wheel kept me occupied (as it is meant to do). I would work and save, every six months I would go on a "retreat" to destress from city life, which gave me enough fortitude to do another six months on that wheel. Later in life (yep, slow learner/stubborn - not sure which or both), my Dad became sick, he asked me to stay with him because something was wrong. Two weeks turned into two months, turned into three years - I will never, ever regret leaving work, living off my savings to be with my Dad those last years. (It was a godsend) I bought his house. I tried to go back to work but the "game" was so much different - work ethic, quality, loyalty - no longer in the work place I can be in. Retiring early, downsizing immensely, living on a budget (but as you said, the money I was making went for cloths, shoes, transportation, eating out, "keeping up with" ate most of my profit and was actually on a budget but didn't realize it because my paycheck didn't state as such. Most of my family and friends went by the wayside, I no longer fit their "purpose" - that is another thing you find out fast - who really is there for you and you become stronger or you fold but you become stronger knowing how strong you truly are and love yourself just a wee bit more filling that hole that they left in your heart to become fully "whole" in yourself. So, now, when I get up in the morning, I owe no one, I know who has my back and basically that is God. I listen to the birds, all I see is trees, garden, flowers, the sky and nature all around me which is always loving, kind and gentle even in a snowstorm (believe it or not). I don't worry about finances/things I need (not want - big difference) seemingly "appear" in a yard sale/garage sale/tag sale or extra money will come in for that exact amount in need. What a wonderful life God had in store for me all along. . .
What a beautiful story Phyllis. It reminds me that God has a different way of measuring things. Our lives are not simply centred on survival, we were made to experience the beauty and wonder in nature which is in itself communion with God. Thank you for sharing your experience. 🥰
Hi I'm Kat happened to be on the computer of my husband. Beautiful, I day dream about moving to the country and a simple life. Take care, one day I hope I too will be there to share in the peaceful beauty.
Perhap's it wasn't really So Different. You had just been Allowed Enough TIME "Away" from the Lifestyle that you were Living, and to Experience the More Laid-Back, Not So Stressed Way of Life, the Decision was Simply a No-Brainer.
Until I bought my house in the woods I felt like I was constantly in a state of longing for something missing. Now I am at peace. Being in nature is healing. 🌱
Hi, I recently moved from a 2 bed apartment in the city, left my life behind to buy a puppy & move into a park home by the sea on top of a cliff, outside the New Forest. I moved to slow down, I have MS & just wanted to be at peace I'm painting, sketching & being in the moment...or trying too. Life is what you make it, you are your reality 🙏♥️🌈🐾
We have a little farm house cottage by the ocean that was just going to be our summer home, it is on one acre with a creek. With the pandemic we came out here last March then in the fall sold our house in the city, retired and now we live out here full time and absolutely love it. We really had been dreaming of this for 15 years, we bought country living magazines, watched gardening videos, I made a scrapbook vision book. We had a garden in the city, we even decorated our house in the city the way it would be out here so we practised, visualized, prepared, dreamed and now we are here and I don’t miss the city at all, we love it here😊
Glad you made it to the country. It was too difficult for me to do the work I loved in the country, although I always wanted to live here. So I spent my working years in the city, but lost no time in moving to the country when I retired. I haven't been back to the city for over 11 years, and don't miss it a bit. Here I have my garden, my studio and my friends, who all love the slow pace of life and the incredible beauty we live in.
I lived in a big city for 15 years. When I finally moved to a cottage in the mountains, I got creative and more spiritual, I wrote 2 books and many other magical things happened. I still live in rural areas. I will never go back.
We live in the outskirts of a small town. We love it. We go to town to run our errands, to visit the library and sometimes to go to a restaurant or have a coffee. But we are always eager to come back to our neighborhood, less polluted and less populated, more relaxing and with a slower pace. We enjoy our patio and the common areas of garden and swimmingpool, and we live happily in own tiny home. Cooking, reading, watching a film… never bored but not busy. We couldn’t ask for more
I moved from Los Angeles and this morning I woke up on a little homestead in the country hearing cows being walked down the road. In a few minutes my grandkids will be getting up and running out to check on the chickens and let them out to scratch for bugs. I have loved both places, and grateful for both opportunities. But I do prefer slowing down and smelling the wild roses.
I am from the city too. When i was young i needed that buzz and busy lifestyle, i was hungry for trying new things, meet new people, work hard and party even harder.... but i am become a mum and all i want is to live my peaceful life in my cozy home, eat my vegetables from the garden, sit outside with a cuppa and watch the boys playing..... that craving for the buzz is gone, but needed to live in there too. No regrets, no bad feelings, no confusions about the past, it was good as it had to be....
So peaceful, so beautiful! I love it. I wish I could live in the countryside, maybe I will one day, but my entire family I here in the suburban invironment, close the busy cities. What my husband and I do, as well as the rest of my nuclear family, is that we make our homes and yards secluded away from the outside, and make these our sanctuaries, with greenery, waterfalls, and we relax, eat, plant, and spend time with one another in our homes and yards. We have not need to go out socializing in busy areas, restaurants, parties, movies, etc. Just sitting outside, having a quiet lunch under the pergola, next to our waterfall, with our loved ones is plenty.
Actually city's biodiversity is so much more interesting than in (sadly too many) country places which grow just one plant species on huge fields & are polluted by fertilizers, pesticides ... Sadly very few people tend to notice all the wildlife that live close to them in citys and encurage its installation while romanticizing all green & pure country life
@@lupinefern8636 there is more biodiversity than people think in cities, but you’re kidding yourself if you think it has more than countrysides. I think you’re only considering farmland which, yes, is very homogenous because… well, there are only a handful of plants being grown. Not all countryside is farmland.
Thirty-four years ago I moved from Vancouver to the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest (BC 🇨🇦). I did so because it was the tail end of the mid-80’s recession, and jobs were not easy to find. I was a first year teacher, straight out of uni, and I was thrilled to get a teaching job… but I went north with the steadfast ambition to move back to the city within two years. Well… that never happened. I stayed because I love the people, the outdoors, and stress free living. I love the wilderness lifestyle. I experienced many things similar to you in terms of saving money, making friends more easily, and living a simple and fulfilling life. I didn’t know it at the time, but it was the best decision I ever made. Great video today Niamh, what an awesome way to start my day. Thank-you so much 🇨🇦🌿💜
I'm pretty lucky.........I can walk to the city one way and walk to the country the other way. I slow down when I bird or squirrel watch somewhat my meditation. Thanks for your video on my Sunday morning.
I grew up with grandparents who were farmers, and my parents were raised that way. From a young age, my family travelled Australia and Papua New Guinea. We lived in a caravan and I changed schools many times. The skills and experiences that I learned are still with today, whether it about sourcing food and supplies, butchering livestock, growing a garden, or being more understanding of other cultures. I don’t regret a thing about my upbringing. My hometown was a large regional city. In 2001, I moved to the country. We raised beef cattle, heritage breed chickens, budgerigars, fish and various pets. We learned about animals, used incubators, attended livestock auctions and learned their languages. In 2000, I taught myself permaculture gardening from library books. Nowadays, I live in a capital city in a small apartment and I don’t regret anything. My survival skills still help me today. I appreciate less physical labour for maintaining land. I realise now that my DNA and upbringing gave me peace of mind. Nature and creation are alive. Our life journey may take us on winding paths but it’s the lessons that matter the most. ❤️🇦🇺
i m also having this deep desire to start a new life in countryside, to live near to nature and have happy and simple life. it will happen one day for sure.....
Great inspiration. Country living is good especially when it comes to growing one's own food, breathing the invigorating fresh air of heaven and also the abundance of herbs. Thank you so very much sister for sharing and for the motivation and encouragement
12 years ago, I moved from the city to the country side. 😊 Thus, I can relate to all the things you´ve said. Yes, it has just made me laugh when you mentioned the pace of walking. That was one of the first things I noticed as well. In the city, I was constantly in a hurry and walking very fast. But now, I take it slowly and enjoy where I live. Watching the birds, smelling the good air, living next door to nature, enjoying the silence of a small rural town, .... I really love my place. I´ve never been happier before. 🧚♀️☘️💕 Have a magical summer!
Mine was the opposite, I used to live with my grandparents in a small town (majority of the residents were elderly, and they mostly knew each other's family 3 generations back) to the capital of the province to live with my parents. I dream to go back to that kind of simple, slow paced, peaceful environment, but job opportunities there's getting smaller now that there's the pandemic still going on. Due to the nature of my line of work, I have to keep moving in really fast pace and in competitive environment, but I try to live as slow and simple as possible when I'm off work. I've been growing zinnias lately too at the small space in my parent's house. These days I'm also trying to have some times off social media, or I only allow myself to use it at certain times. It surely also helped me to slow down my life 🌼 Have a good week ahead, everyone! 🌻
Sounds similar to my area. Not enough work for the younger generations unless you can work in a few fields (health care, public school, or coal mines/oil&gas). Anything else is really really hard to come by and it makes me sad because I love my little state.
I keep refusing joining a corporate hospital job as a doctor. I already have my own clinic and sit for 3-4 hours daily,.. evenings are spent with my kids, their studies ..and garden! Sometimes looking at others I wonder if I do the right thing in refusing more work. But always my belief in taking life easy prevails. I think it's more balanced ( may be lazy :) and it gives me enough. We all can resist the tendency of over stretching our capacity and ruining our health in return. Always give more time to life, kids , family , yourself and your hobbies.
Thanks for such a lovely site. Ones health is increased when the world is pushed away for a bit. I've taken on a slower pass of life myself. Much appreciated. Have a beautiful Saturday
We love in the city but live like we are in the country as much as possible. I grow a garden on my rooftop. Compost at the local community garden. Go to the farmers market for our meat and veggies. We don't use plastic. We filter our tap water with a berkey filter to get spring quality water. All in hopes for our planning and saving to buy some land and a country home....why not live a slow life in the meantime despite living in a city? Thank you for the inspiration and peaceful energy you always share!
Three years ago, I moved from a big city (+1 million people), to a tiny city of 68,000. I loved my life in the big city but was totally burnt out with the fast paced life. Even though I cultivated some good habits and hobbies, the size of the city meant a lot of time commuting and always feeling rushed. I surprised my family and friends by agreeing to move an 8 hour drive north to the middle of nowhere in order to be close to my first grandchild. Some of my husband ‘s family made comments like “aren’t you too old to start over”? Uh nope! I’m not even 50 yet...still plenty of life to live! I’m so happy to be here. I have so much time and a much wider group of friends we’ve cultivated along with my wonderful family which now includes 2 grandchildren and 1 one the way. It’s never too late! Just do it!
I too have moved away from the city due to its constant hustle and bustle. Although I have less things now, I am more abundant inside and more at peace.
I have lived in the same house in the suburbs of Cleveland for 50+ years-now 82 I have to be near a good medical facility-50 years ago I dug up my back yard to plant a garden-hung out my clothes-now I do what I can rags not paper towels etc. Love your videos! My Sunday peace!-Gusti p.s. to me this is the country-I was born inn New York city!
Another week of inspiration, my friend! Indeed, it came to a point that I was burnt out. I long for a country living soon. For now, what I do is start living simple, do recycle some stuff and plants vegetable in my place. Hopefully, soon I get my country living where life is slow and peaceful. Have a great week my friend and to all the Fairyland Cottage viewers. 🌸✨🙏
I've never lived the fast pace life, even when I was younger. I grew up in a city of 80 000 people, which is a small city compared to some and big and noisy compared to others. Even when I moved to my country's capital, I looked at the people rushing by, never wanted to be one of them. And now, I yearn to live even slower than before, to enjoy every day to the fullest. Not the easiest thing to do, when you work as carer during the so called covid pandemic. Finally, I have some time to just sit and enjoy my crafting while listening to the birds outside. Hugs from Scotland
I was raised in the country, moved to the city to raise a family and now I'm dying to find a country home again. Having tried both, the countryside has my heart. More peaceful and more healthy! Your home and land is a real dream!
Good morning, I was the exact opposite growing up. I grew up in a very small town, ( Ward SC, USA), population 91, I always yearned for the city... That is until I lived there. I moved around alot in my young adult life searching for something that , now at 53 yrs old, I realize was there all along. The simple life. What I used to scoff at as old fashioned, now takes me on a nostalgic journey back in time to a place that is rapidly fading as suburbia expands. I cherish growing up in the country, that is who I am. A plain simple Southern country girl. Thanks for sharing, much peace and love.
A true “life lesson” for everyone. Even if you can’t move to the country, you can still carve out time and space wherever you are for a slice of that “inner peace” we all need. Thank you sharing 🙏
@@FairylandCottage I am an extreme minimalist living a very simple life in the city of Kathmandu. I live a zero waste life as far as I could manage. It's just that I want to live somewhere in a country side. I adore you so much.❤️
I moved from the city years ago into an old house in a suburb of phila. , not the "country" but the homes are historic with great character and my neighbors are diverse and wonderful people..i couldn't be happier ! I have a great backyard with a veggie garden and a wonderful front porch to sit and relax on ..my little piece of heaven
I love this!! This is what I want to do - move from the big city to the countryside and live a more simple, quieter life to actually get the chance to enjoy life.
Hi, totally agree with you ,..I am so lucky I saw it early in my life, thru my grandparents,....I wanted to be just like them in the sense you are talking about,....life is to short, its a shame more peeps can not see what we see to make our lives more meaningful.......that's the key ,....living with intention and being grounded, in what you want in life ,...not for anyone one else or company we work for,... it works out in the end,..still hard work, but its for you and your family,.....when your intentions are right. Beautiful video hun, .....like minded people connected , Hugs from NZ xx
Hi, my name is Maurits, 21 years old, and I'm from the city of Antwerp in Belgium. I'm dreaming about moving to the countryside and taking up farming or at least gardening and I want to create the right atmosphere for inner exploration. So I have started looking at courses and organisations that provide the necessary information on farming or gardening and have also looked at farmsteads or houses in many potential regions. I know that the move towards this dream is a big one and that it takes time in letting the vision mature and concretize. I'm looking to see what steps to take in that direction and loving the path towards it. I wish to all of you that you make your own destiny and that you may realise your longings and your dreams! 😊🙏🌸 Thanks for sharing Niamh! ❤️
Zeker doen! Volgend jaar verhuizen we naar Wyoming to the “middle of nowhere”! Ben klaar voor mijn tweede grote avontuur. Mijn advies: blijf niet plakken in België🤣 Break out of the box!
I have moved back and forth from city to country over my lifetime. The moves back to the city were always due to unfortunate circumstances, not by choice. I am finally back in the country where I feel I belong. I love the peace it brings to my life. Anytime I must go to the city for provisions, my whole body breathes a sigh of relief upon leaving❤️
Absolutely EVERYTHING you say in here resonates with me so much! The thoughts and the story alike 💚 we moved just with the start of the pandemic and now I cannot even imagine going back. In the city I was constantly just hustling and surviving, now I have gained all my lost creativity back and remembered that childlike wonder and energy that I used to have. It led to so many valuable things this past year: from the joy of catching the sunrise in the fields, to creative baking and of course finding all the ideas and connectedness to nature with my channel. But of course, occasionally I still enjoy going the the city for a day or two, wearing an expensive little dress, go to a fancy brunch place and enjoying the hustle and bustle on the streets outside while I brose my favourite book store or get a coffee or wine in a cute cafe 😀
Right at the moment, I live in a “sleepy hamlet”😁and its the perfect balance for me. I did spend many years living in the Catskill Forest Preseve, and the beauty of it was so comforting to me when I was having some hard days. There’s so much healing in nature.
Happy Sunday . I did move across the United States from a large city to a much smaller city in the middle of the pandemic. I actually would love living in a rural community like yours, but I think where I am at now is a good fit. One of my daughter’s and family lives close by which is perfect for me.
A beautiful journey. Thank's for sharing. I have more or less the same life : I quit Paris for a town in the East of France, then I move to a little town in the Vosges. I love the countrylife. We earn enough money to slowdown more. I have decided this morning that I will reduce my worktime. My husband already did it in january. That's Life, for us. I'm curious : what are the jobs you did in your countryside ? I whish you a beautiful sunday.
My husband and I both grew up in the country. We lived, for over 20 yrs, in a city. I hated it. From the moment I got there til the moment I left. Now, for the past 13 yrs, we are back in the country. Retired, peaceful, content. Much Love, from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦... Keli 💖
Thank you Niamh ! I needed this video and I needed it now. I'm going to move in the countryside in October and I'm feeling a mix of excitement and fear. Especially about the job part. So your video is really soothing for me. I want to live in a house, in nature, with a community. But I've always lived in a city so it's a bit of a leap for me. Knowing your own fears and the questions you had at the time is really helping me to feel connected and valued in my own questions. It's like I asked you all those questions and you answered them, reassuring me. Thank you, that is so precious !
This is a GREAT video! I REALLY appreciate where at the 2:45 mark you said you started to write down the life you wanted to lead and drawing visuals, which is what author Henriette Anne Klauser PhD says in here book Write It Down, Make It Happen: Knowing What You Want And Getting. Because it allows us to really think about what we want as well as need, rather than just making assumptions. And then stepping out and taking steps to get to where one needs to be. And that by taking steps versus running to the goal, we actually attain the goal we desire.
I live in a small town. I live there for my whole life and I never will move to a big city. I have a nice garden with a beautiful scenery, a dog and horse. That are things which calm me down. I started to more simplify my life with decluttering my wardrobe and house. I reduce eating meat to a low level. Now I feel more free and satisfied. I am on a good way....🐕🐎👌
I lived my first 18 years in a very rural area and then moved away to college. From there I married and moved to a large city. After my children were grown and I was divorced and retired, I moved back to the old family homestead where I'd grown up. I loved the city when I was there but now I can barely stand to be there even for a brief visit. Everything seems so loud and disjointed to me now. I am so excited to come back home to my rambling old two-story house in the country. It's quiet and comfortable and safe but not terribly stylish! Here I feel relaxed but never bored.
I was very lucky to grow up in the country side, in a small town, growing our own veggies, fruits, and learning to be frugal. Also the necessity of caring for the earth by recycling, composting, community and the like. I loved it! As my small town began to grow the country side became a bit more urban, and populated, the slower pace of life seemed to slip away. Before I realized it, I was caught up in fast paced, and excessive consumerism. I forgot the value of gardening, slowing down, going with a rhythm of nature, and frugality. Thankfully, my love of country living was reignited and I am working my way back "home" to those roots.
My favorite way to start my Sunday..........with a video from Niamh! I love hearing your wise words and seeing your beautiful home and surroundings! You truly live in Paradise. Well, to me it’s Paradise. My heart and soul feel complete and fulfilled when I’m surrounded by nature. I live in a small town by the ocean, and it’s lovely, but one day I hope to live in the countryside, with a lot more space and wildlife. Nature is healing. Thank you for another splendid glimpse into your world, Niamh! Sending love and blessings to you. 🌿
Thank you for sharing your story! I will be moving to the country relatively soon, but I'm not sure exactly when. I cannot say how excited I am, and how lucky I feel just to be able to look foward to it. I can't wait to be surrounded by the wonderful color green!! Your channel has been a place of comfort for me- these are the kinds of things I can look forward to. This is the lifestyle I will soon have! I appreciate your videos very much. So thank you
I would really love to move from the city to the countryside I live in Moscow and my mind is constantly yearning for forests, country houses and greenery hopefully one day I can do just that
I know how busy life in Moscow is, just traffic alone is a nightmare:-) it’s so great to have a dream and work on it even slowly. I am in Vancouver 🇨🇦 and also hoping to move closer to the nature...🌸 успехов!!!
@@kota4533 aww! thank you for your kind words! thankfully i only use subway, and it's really nice- clean, fast (also safes from hot weather in summer, now) Good luck to you too! And again, спасибо!🌳
I recently moved to Brooklyn to pursue a career in music, I love that there is music all around and people making music to connect with, because music is my biggest joy! BUT I daydream often and passionately about a simple sustainable life out in the country, it feels unclear how a simple country life surrounded by music and other musicians can coexist right now. It’s helping me to let go of knowing the answer right away, and discovering that there are beautiful community parks and gardens around to spend my extra time in. thanks for this great channel!
I lived in a NJ city for 10 years and traveled to NYC. Since I moved into a quiet suburb, I do not know how I ever lived in a city. Now I grow herbs and vegetables, walk in nature and live a nice quiet life. Your home is beautiful.
During the pandemic I spent the year at our little country house, thinking it wouldn’t be “big enough” or that I would miss clothes and things I’d left at our city house in another state…but the longer I spent in the country, outside, with my small group of family and friends… we have decided to make a permanent move and enjoy the sounds of birds in the morning, coyotes at night, seeing the stars without all the bright lights of a big city and the peace that brings with it. Not that there isn’t work! Gardens and cooking most meals instead of take out and nearby restaurants! But it is where I feel most at home now
For most of my life we lived in the country. It was so peaceful! However due to our health and age we now live in a very large city! I have found that our memories can give us peace and we can be content when our minds are calm no matter where we are.🤗
I Live part time in the city and part time in the country side, i can see and feel the bennefits of living close to nature, there is no doubt that nature is our normal way of living, instead of the concret buildings from the city, my mental and emotional health improve right away in my cottage, not to mention the expansion of my soul, once back to the city it is hard to get used to the urban way of life, my goal is to Live full time in the country side
I plan on moving back to Greece in about 4 years. I have an apartment in Corfu and a small house on a smaller island. I’m disabled so there isn’t much I can do to live off the land, but I’m going to certainly enjoy sitting outside and going to the beach.
Thank you so much for sharing. I have been watching your videos and the more I watch the more I want to see and learn. I live in New York, Brooklyn to be exact. I've lived here all my life and I love it. At one time I would have loved to live in the country and do all the those wonderful things that you are doing. But I guess I love the excitement of the city and now I am not sure how I would survive in the country, especially that I don't know how to drive and depend on my husband to take me to certain places to run certain errands. He wishes to move upstate where it's more country if you will. And as I watch your videos, I am becoming more and more inspired but due to my disability I cannot kneel to plant seeds or work a garden. I had three different accidents and I am no longer able to do things as I did before. When I moved into the apartment I have lived in for the last 24 years, I grew a garden in the front of the building and I loved it. Once I started mine, many people in the buildings around where I live got inspired and started theirs. I long ago stopped gardening due to an accident that I had in the garden and also, I got tired of people stealing from my garden to plant in theirs. At one point some kids were playing ball and they hit the baseball sending it flying into my garden while I was kneeling and planting some bulbs and the ball hit me right in the middle of my lower back causing me to develop a bulging herniated disc. After that I had many other accidents that soon had me not being able to do much of anything else. I had to resign from teaching deaf children and had no choice but to just stay home and take things easier for quite some years. Little by little after many years of therapy and much struggle and above all, my faith and trust in God, I started to do more and I went from a wheel chair to a walker and now a cane. My story is long so I'll stop here but I wish to share that you have inspired me and I wish to thank you for being so honest and down to earth about your life and how living in the country has done you so well. I don't know what I will be doing about moving upstate to the country but for now, I guess I will take small steps, like growing some herbs at my city apartment kitchen window sill. Thank you again for sharing, God bless you. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend and week ahead and take special care.
Thank you Niamh. I also grew up and worked as a Registered Nurse but longed for the country life too. I had horses so did get that lifestyle at least for a few hours spend riding. It was peaceful and I was recharged after each visit. I also loved the glam life with fancy restaurants and clothes. I drove fancy sports cars and felt on top of the world. But like you something was missing still. My marriage ended and as a single mom I moved north to a smaller town, Life was difficult and I had to give up my horse, a heart breaking decision. My soul was lost for a time. My dream had always been moving to a farm but that never happened. Upon reflection that was a good thing. I am retired after 40 years of nursing and live in a small cottage by the lake. My kids are grown and I have grandchildren now who I see often but love to come back home to the peace and quiet. Slowly I am getting into gardening and will aim to grow some vegetables in the future. Love your videos and am glad you did not wait for your dream to come true.
This video surprises me. I never knew you came from the city, but felt you always had the country in your soul. At least, the way you have developed your videos, use your natural methods, and eat healthy made me think so. But isn’t it wonderful to have had this, to know the “desert” of a city, enough to love the beauty of the country when you move there. I too have done the same; lived in the city and moved to the country. And I feel so blessed. I live on one third of the income I had in the city, and find myself happier. I have more time to fill with things I enjoy (gardening, sewing, walking, etc). When people ask where I’m from, I tell them I took a wrong turn (I come from a city on the other side of the country). That seems to give them a laugh.
Thank you, Niamh, for this soulful work you are doing for yourself and for the world, for all of us, those who resonate with this so much. You truly inspire a change in ones life. I hope to be able to move closer to the water one day and grow all sorts of herbs and flowers🪴. I moved across the continent 23 years ago and it was less scary for some reason. Feeling so stuck in a big city and the life I once enjoyed so much. The need for inner life and connection with nature is so strong now. Thank you, dear, keep exploring and sharing your findings with the world. So much needed ❤️🙏❤️
Three months ago we left Toronto and moved into a lovely house in the country. I grew up in the woods and fields, and have always wanted to return to nature and a slower, more grounded life. My husband is a born and bred city boy so this was a big transition for him, but it is the best thing we've ever done. it started escapes from the city, weekends away in the woods... I found a lovely affordable Airbnb cabin and we agreed that it was important for me to get my 'nature fix', so we started going a few times a year, and then it became monthly, and rather than satiating this longing I had, it fuelled it. It allowed us to both see the benefits of a slower life. It helped us both focus on the kind of life we really needed. I used to watch this channel hungrily, jealous, soaking it all in before heading out into city traffic. We finally decided to go for it and bought a house on an acre of land. Our small city house sold so well that we were able to buy a much more comfortable house and still have less strain financially. Life is still complex and challenging and nuanced, but it is all a lot easier to manage when you are staring at deer in the field. :)
I have moved to a small town environment…so no I don’t get to enjoy the countryside… but this small town life has been a blessing to me… we have several raised beds and I can grow flowers…& for relaxation my husband & I enjoy a golf cart ride nearly everyday… !!!! I love the slower lifestyle!!!
Yes, I moved to my village too. It's more peaceful, happy and abundant. It's worth living in the village/countryside. Thanks for sharing your story. I will do mine as well one day...
Hi! i live in the outskirt of a big city here in Italy. i'm on smartworking since the pandemic started an half a year ago and i'm really happy to stay at home and not going to the city anymore.
I moved to the countryside with my partner last year, after living in a big-ish city for a few years. I grew up by the sea so not strictly countryside, more used to sailing regattas and pesky tourists than trees and mud. I feel so much more free out here. I work from home mostly and we're now able to have a dog, which I've always wanted, and we feel much more comfortable about the idea of raising kids out here than in the city. My days are spent doing housework, walking my greyhound and making food, rather than shopping (which I still do online! I'm still a spendaholic, ha) and rushing about every day. It's lifestyle that suits me so much better as I live with chronic illnesses. I'm so glad that it worked out for you too
Lovely video , really enjoyed this !! I have some large stones I collected from the beach and they have been sitting in a dish for ages ....I also have some art supplies , I have been inspired to paint the stones and use them near my plants !!! That's magic to me 💛 thank you x
Everything you said is the same with what I’m feeling right now, now that I am in the countryside as well. Take care and congratulations with your new bundle of joy! I am genuinely so happy for you.
The pace is in your mind .. not in country side or city. It comes with age or perspective or sense. My great grandfather was an amazing businessman n real estate person living in a tiny village. He invested in so much agricultural lands in villages around n also in rental apartment like two buildings with 15 tenants in nearby city n also 4 warehouses n a huge shop. All while living in a village of not more than 200 people. On the other hand .. his son ( my grandfather) was living in the big city at an amazing slow pace. No hurry .. no competition with anyone.. great books to read .. friends to meet n simple frugal living. I would say .. I admire both. Whatever your pace .. live at peace with yourself.
I feel related to your story. I work as software engineer. Before pandemic I was living in busy City where I had fast paced life, yet everything was slow because so much time was always consumed by heavy traffic. Now, almost a year, due to covid, I am living in my hometown with my husband and family by working from home. I feel so much more alive now, weekend I spend with nature, family and by doing some art and craft work. I wish to continue this way forever but as there are no IT industries in my hometown, again I may have to move back to city. I wish that day doesn't come soon, yet I want covid to go away forever. Love, from India
I can relate to what you’re saying on so many levels. In the city, I prided myself in being busy. I didn’t expect to slow down so much but I’m happy ❤️
You're so right, when i lived in the city i also prided myself on being constantly busy and wore my stress as almost a badge of honour 🙄 Now I live in rural Portugal, I'm still busy, but not the stressful sort of busy, busy tending animals, growing food and being part of the community. Hope you found your happy place.
I m still studying and i m 22 years i always wanted to go to such a place and spent a lot of time among the green woods and understanding myself better and the nature I believe in me via seeing u that one day i will fulfil my dream too
I currently live in the suburbs in the states. I thought this is what I wanted. After a couple years, I realized what I want is quiet. All day everyday I hear cars, motorcycles, trucks and just all around business. My goal is to move to the Pocono Mountains, which is a couple hours from me. We are waiting for my youngest to graduate from highschool in June 2023.
We live in a small town in schuylkill county, so not too far from the Poconos. I’d love to live more rural, but with the real estate market the way it is we will have to wait a bit. We have a small house with a yard and a flower and vegetable garden, and it’s only a 10 minute drive to our favorite bit of woods. It’s not our forever home, but we are content enough here for now. We lived in Phoenixville (philly suburbs) for a year when we moved back to PA, and my husband and I agree that it was the worst year of our lives. Never again. Our daughter graduated in 2020, so when we decide to make the move we can!
Hello all! 🧚♀️🐝☀️
It’s a quiet Sunday here in fairyland.
Sending love to you all around the world.
Have a magical week 🧚♀️☘️💕🐝🤗
I hope also to move to the country and get away from the stresses of city life 😊
I very much enjoy your soulful videos!
You also have a wonderful day and week
Happy Summer Solstice to all! ☀️
Hello to ya ! Thank you for a beautiful video , sending love to you ,have a wonderful week ahead. Take care .
Yeah that’s the secret. Never put off living life right now wherever you are 💛🌈
Honestly, anything is possible if you put your mind to it and you especially want it.
🙏🙏
What a wonderful life God had in store for me all along. . .
A beautiful and inspiring story Phyllis. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your story, Phyllis 🌼❤️
Your voice is very healing. I feel calm when I watch your videos..
Thanks for sharing! Great inspiration for us all 💛
same here .....wishing you the best with the challenges MS brings ...
God is Good and Always Good
We have a little farm house cottage by the ocean that was just going to be our summer home, it is on one acre with a creek. With the pandemic we came out here last March then in the fall sold our house in the city, retired and now we live out here full time and absolutely love it. We really had been dreaming of this for 15 years, we bought country living magazines, watched gardening videos, I made a scrapbook vision book. We had a garden in the city, we even decorated our house in the city the way it would be out here so we practised, visualized, prepared, dreamed and now we are here and I don’t miss the city at all, we love it here😊
Sounds lovely!
Hello I'm Kat using my hubby's computer, would love to know the books you have written!
Must be a lovely sound to hear cows waking down the road!
@Rose 25 y.o - check my vidéó your ass again…can’t you make your own comments? Ffffffffff
A slower paced way of living is always a Blessing 💛
Thank you, I feel much better seeing and hearing about such a lovely life. 😊
I also think that life in the countryside feels much safer, quieter and less polluted, more room to breathe and just be yourself.

Hi Mary
We love living in the country. It is more peaceful.💚❤
Eating my Stir Fry after the night shift and enjoying some relaxing content from one of my favourites. Life couldn’t be better 💕
Great inspiration. Country living is good especially when it comes to growing one's own food, breathing the invigorating fresh air of heaven and also the abundance of herbs. Thank you so very much sister for sharing and for the motivation and encouragement
on the most stressful days , your vidoes give me relief. thanks
Have a magical summer!
"NATURE is your FRIEND" This quotes is from my favourite writer & filosofer . "Paul Brunton"
It surely also helped me to slow down my life 🌼
Have a good week ahead, everyone!

Hi 👋
Awww it's like you live in a dreamland I want to move place like this.
It’s all about ‘now’ doing what we can to live a simpler life. You keep going my friend. 💜🌈
I was blessed by your shared Journey from the city to the country
My dream is to live a life similar to yours.
You can live simply too!
@@FairylandCottage I am an extreme minimalist living a very simple life in the city of Kathmandu. I live a zero waste life as far as I could manage. It's just that I want to live somewhere in a country side. I adore you so much.❤️
Same here.. Someday I will also be living like this in future.
I m living this kinda lyf here in India.
@@anweshadutta3911 start planning, its never too early!!
I would love to have dinner with you at that table and chat about nature and simple beautiful things.
Hi, totally agree with you ,..I am so lucky I saw it early in my life, thru my grandparents,....I wanted to be just like them in the sense you are talking about,....life is to short,
its a shame more peeps can not see what we see to make our lives more meaningful.......that's the key ,....living with intention and being grounded, in what you want in life ,...not for anyone one else or company we work for,...
it works out in the end,..still hard work, but its for you and your family,.....when your intentions are right.
Thanks for sharing Niamh! ❤️
All the best to you in making the life you dream of 🤗🍀
Hi, i am also from Belgium, from mechelen, close to antwerpen 😉. Same dreams 😊🙏🙏
@@karinuytterhoeven2878 hi Karin, wonderful to hear! Ik wens u het beste! 😊🙏☀️
Zeker doen! Volgend jaar verhuizen we naar Wyoming to the “middle of nowhere”! Ben klaar voor mijn tweede grote avontuur. I’m moving in august from a big city to a beautiful property in the woods I’m so excited thank you for being a great encouragement 😊
Your voice is soooo soothing ☺️
Absolutely EVERYTHING you say in here resonates with me so much! The thoughts and the story alike 💚 we moved just with the start of the pandemic and now I cannot even imagine going back. In the city I was constantly just hustling and surviving, now I have gained all my lost creativity back and remembered that childlike wonder and energy that I used to have. It led to so many valuable things this past year: from the joy of catching the sunrise in the fields, to creative baking and of course finding all the ideas and connectedness to nature with my channel. But of course, occasionally I still enjoy going the the city for a day or two, wearing an expensive little dress, go to a fancy brunch place and enjoying the hustle and bustle on the streets outside while I brose my favourite book store or get a coffee or wine in a cute cafe 😀
sounds like my dream come true 💓💓🧵
Right at the moment, I live in a “sleepy hamlet”😁and its the perfect balance for me. I did spend many years living in the Catskill Forest Preseve, and the beauty of it was so comforting to me when I was having some hard days. There’s so much healing in nature.
This is my plan too....wishing you the best God Bless
Keli 💖
This is a lifestyle I deeply desire.
I love how open you are with your feelings and thoughts. Thank you 🙏🏻 ❤️😊
I have lived in both. But now that I’m older, I’m happier just where I am ❤️
I did the same. I did it gradually. Moved from a big city to a small town, then to a rural area within 2 years.
This is the simple art of internal happiness 🌸
I am on a good way....🐕🐎👌
Many points were made
I lived my first 18 years in a very rural area and then moved away to college.
So thank you
You have done exactly what I want to do. Blessings to you Niamh and everyone watching and reading these comments. Go within embrace the now moment 💓xx
A wonderful story, beautifully told. ❤️
I would really love to move from the city to the countryside
I live in Moscow and my mind is constantly yearning for forests, country houses and greenery
hopefully one day I can do just that
I know how busy life in Moscow is, just traffic alone is a nightmare:-) it’s so great to have a dream and work on it even slowly. I am in Vancouver 🇨🇦 and also hoping to move closer to the nature...🌸 успехов!!!
@@kota4533 aww! thank you for your kind words!
thankfully i only use subway, and it's really nice- clean, fast (also safes from hot weather in summer, now)
Good luck to you too!
Small actions ripple.over the years! Wonderful words
Thank you for sharing your story
Your videos and narrative are so soothing and motivational. For past 1 yr you are inspiring me to begin everyday.
You Are So Blessed, that He

I'm Sure that it Felt Like an Eternity ! ! ! Hope You are Doing Well.
I have decided to live in the country starting next month. My partner and I have purchased a house in Wales. I feel blessed to have the opportunity x
Love your voice, love your Channel, love from Portugal😘🙏💞🍀
Thanks lovely! Love from Ireland ☘️☀️🌈
That’s a nice silver lining!
I'm so glad that it worked out for you too
Thanks for this video!!! very relatable
The art of simplicity🍁
Wonderful video as always. Thank you dear Niamh

👍 So Happy For You. 🙂
I m still studying and i m 22 years i always wanted to go to such a place and spent a lot of time among the green woods and understanding myself better and the nature
I believe in me via seeing u that one day i will fulfil my dream too
I currently live in the suburbs in the states.
