You are very welcome, Fred. "On The Night" was recorded over two shows, and I can't remember much about them because we were in a seemingly endless run of gigs that all fuse into one another. Hard work (for a musician!) but good fun.

Dear Mr. Clark, I remember when you came to enrich Dire Straits with your qualities. Together with mr. Knopfler you created a new sound for the music of Dire Straits.. without you, Telegraphroad and Romeo and Juliette, among others, would never have sounded like they do now.. I have always admired you as a musician who is modest in the background but so important is in the sound of the music. I've had the privilege of seeing a lot of Dire Straits perform over 3 tours. I was also at the recording of On the Night in the Netherlands. That was in football stadium "de Kuip" in Rotterdam. A great beautiful experience. I hope to hear a lot more from you. Thank you for sharing your wonderful music.

I've played live versions from all eras, over and over through my life, childhood to now - Alchemy, Sydney 86, Mandela 88, On The Night. I'm playing this version over and over already. Really looking forward to your album to hear I'm sure, other great renditions from pieces over your career. Thankyou again, from the Blue Mountains Australia.

A mate and I went to Birmingham NEC back in 1985, we got there several hours before anyone else, god knows why, excitement I guess, went for a walk around the lake, this guy was running towards us, he said “alright lads” it was Alan, we were absolutely made up, fabulous show, we went back in December that year, no tickets, bought a couple off a tout, £30 for an £11 ticket, out of the 5 times I saw Dire Straits, I reckon that show was the best, stunning bunch of musicians. This is beautiful.
